>> good morning. it is a great day to be alive. you are watching "fox & friends first" on this tuesday morning. i am heather childers. thank you for joining us. >> i am ainsley earhardt. we are going to start with some news we are learning this morning. after shooting a student at a pennsylvania college the wide ner university campus in suburban philadelphia remain locked down overnight as police search for a gunman. they believe he ran off in a nearby neighborhood. surveillance individual i don't -- surveillance video is being reviewed now. the student who was shot is sitting in the school parking lot. coming up we will have a live report out of chester, pennsylvania with more on the search for that gunman. two people are dead and 10 others are seriously injured in an ohm ma plant explosion --

omaha plant explosion. rescuers removed a 53-year-old victim last night. the cold temperatures and strong winds cut off the search for another man. all 38 workers who were there in the building at the time have now been accounted for. the cause of the blast have not yet been determined. there were no hazardous chemicals inside the plant. the investigation could take weeks. >> an out of control cement truck crashes into a home leaving the driver dead. the man hit several cars at the first stoplight off of the exit ramp and then rammed right into the three story home causing the front wall to collapse. a mother inside at the time with her two young boys when she heard a huge thump. >> the way the truck entered the front of the house that's our living room. they were in the same spot. she heard the truck hit and she felt the house shake and they ran to the back.

she knew something hit it. >> police say the driver behind the wheel suffered a medical issue. >> now let's get to the extreme weather alert. the polar plunge is back. millions of americans waking up again to this. more cold more wind and especially more snow expected to hit the midwest and the northeast. already this morning nearly 2,000 flights canceled. maria molina is in the weather center with us. when will we expect to see the worst of the storm? >> across parts of the mid atlantic we will see the snow picking up later this morning and across areas further north like new york city and boston the worse of the conditions happening in the afternoon hours

evening and they will continue through out the overnight hours. we the snow coming down across states of ohio, indiana, illinois. out here, though, this is not going to be that bad. we are looking at cool temperatures strong winds and light snows coming down. it will be generally light just a couple of inches. it is across the mid atlantic where we have winter storm warnings across virginia and we could be looking at situations like washington, d.c. and baltimore up 4-8 inches osnow. we should be seeing gusts of up to 30 and new york city 6-10 inches forecast. boston you are yooking at 4-8 inches of snow. the big story is how cold it will be behind it. look at the cold temperatures

of life rally taking place tomorrow where pro-life supporters will march in the nation's capital in protest to all of the lives lost in abortion. it marks the 44th anniversary of roe versus wade. >> the campaign for republican gubernatorial frontrunner kim donnelly standing their ground following controversy over a hollywood actress showing her support. in a statement donnelly's campaign said it is very interesting in this day and age if you are a conservative or if you support a conservative candidate you are immediately attacked. the conservative woman in america is the most endangered species. that is exactly what happened to cuban born actress. after appearing in a campaign commercial for donnelly who strongly opposes loosening immigration policies. al lon so has been attacked by pro illegal immigration groups

>> more now on our fox news alert. a pennsylvania university is on lock down at this hour. police hunted for a gunman who shot a student. wtxs reporter is live for us in chester, pennsylvania. jennifer? >> well that's right. according to a university spokesperson the victim remains in critical but stable condition and the campus remains on lock down as the search for the suspect is ongoing and active. the shootliing happened around 8:45 last night. it happened outside of the schwartz athletic center on campus. police are revealing surveillance video trying to develop information. they are stressing at this point all indications is this was not a random act of violence. police say the athletic center

houses the campus gym. there were other people around at the time of the shooting. police are sorting out these details. they know nothing about the victim except we do know they have alerted his parents. it is a very active scene. the campus will remain on lock down until 6:00 this morning. >> jennifer joyce joining us live from the scene. thank you. the fbi joining the search for a missing wall street journal reporter who vanished more than a week ago. this is his picture. 55-year-old davidburg disappeared after he left his house to go for a walk. he did have his credit card which was used in mexico last week. it is the only clue that was turning up in this case. >> repairs on the huge sink hole that opened up in downtown detroit might not begin for days now. the 14 foot deep sink hole forced officials to reroute traffic there and scramble to

>> it's back. more cold more wind and especially more snow expected to hit people in the midwest and northeast. already this morning nearly 2,000 flights have been canceled. >> good morning. i want to show you some of the windchill temperatures. we have a storm across states like ohio, indiana, illinois and north and west of that system. we have the cold arctic air as we head out the door this morning it feels like 25 degrees below zero. 32 below zero in the city of far go. all of that cold air will continue to move eastward and southward and we are looking at dangerously cold windchill temperatures across most of the eastern half of the country coming up as we head over the next 48 to even longer period of time than that. we have warnings and advisories

in effect because of that. windchill warnings across northeast, up state new york, new england and the midwest. bundle up as we head out the door. we are looking at a concern for hypothermia and frostbite from the dangerously cold windchill temperatures. the system producing snow. not a lot of accumulations in the northwest. it's in the mid atlantic and the northeast. about 4-8 inches of snow possible in baltimore and dc. a foot of it in philadelphia and the other issue is the wind. we will be seeing gusts in the overnight hour. up to 40 miles per hour. white out conditions will be a concern out here. >> that's the wind. that's the worst part. the snow is not so bad. >> when you hear it howl it is scary. thanks. well one woman remains on the lose after shooting a student at a pennsylvania college. the campus in suburban

philadelphia remains locked down as police search for the gunman. they believe he ran off into a nearby neighborhood. surveillance video is being reviewed and k-9's are being used to search for the suspect. the student shot was sitting in his car. he is in critical but stable condition. the nomotive not yet known p. the campus lock down expected to be lifted at 6:00 a.m. >> two people are dead, 10 others seriously injured in an omaha plant explosion. that blast brought town part of the international nutrition plant. a 53-year-old victim pulled from the rubble last night. the search for the second victim was suspended because of all of the strong winds and cold temperatures. all 38 of the workers in the building at the time have been accounted for. the cause was not determined and there were no hazardous chemicals at the plant.

kelly wright joins us with more on this new trend. kelly? >> heather, it's unbelievable. president candy is called smarties, just as you stated. but some kids in middle schools are doing a pretty dumb thing with it. take a look at this. yeah, that's pretty bad. it's a trend that's been going on since 2007 but now it's gone viral on youtube. instead of eating the smarties candy, some kids are now crushing it then snorting it as if it were cocaine. the candies are not addictive and kids can't even get high from it, but they're finding out the hard way that smarties can be harmful. doctors at the mayo clinic say it can cause allergic reactions such as lung infections, chronic coughing and choking. and this is pretty disgusting. one doctor says it can even cause maggots to gather in the nose. so why do it? no one seems to have the answer. but adults do have concerns.
