because it is going to get awful. new york and washington, where the storm shut down the federal government. here's a live look in d.c. you can see the capitol through the snow there forecasters say the storm has been intensifying as it moves east. this time yesterday we got the word, maybe one to three inches here in new york city. that's changed at bit. this map says eight to 12 and some locals are saying as many as 14 inches. winter storm warning in effect from carolinas to new england and the snow expected to follow up and down the region. pittsburgh to the west, washington, dc and beyond, bangor maine, even, new york and philly getting it hard. the snow and ice have shut done many schools, but not here in new york city. cancelled flights and created big problems on the road. traffic officials say a shut down stretch of 60 miles of a highway after a series of crashes in southern indiana. no reports of anybody hurt but

are warning of a planned attack on the olympics torch relay. the games kick off in two weeks. the reported threat is alarmingly specific, according to authorities. it names certain suspects and a timeline for the attack. sometime between now and thursday. security officials in sochi, russia, have been searching for at least three, what they call, black widows. muslim extremists who officials warn plan to attack the olympic games. earlies and officers have been handed out wanted posters. and one could already be inside the city of sochi as we speak. in the united states, the pentagon is making emergency plans just in case. officials do now confirm the navy plans to move two ships to the nearby black sea. they say air force cargo jets

the supreme court heard a case this morning that could have quite an impact on unions in the united states. at the heart of the whole thing is whether unions can force workers pay dues. labor leaders argue that workers who benefit from the union contract should pay their fair share of the fees. some workers say it's unconstitutional to require anybody to pay union dues. we're live in washington elm what's at stake here, shannon? >> the potential impact is so great this is what justice kagan

told the driver, hello, i'm the guy you hit on the bicycle here. happened over the weekend 45, minutes south of green bay, wisconsin. the newspaper guy says he was on a three-wheeled bicycle, a tricycle, which might be reason to hit someone. the driver hit him and continued driving, running a stop sign and hitting another car. a witness called the cops saying she saw the victim's legs sticking from said car's windshield. the victim says the driver finally noticed hem when he pulled up in front of his home. >> he saw me sitting in his car and said, who are you? what are you doing there? i said i'm the guy you hit on the bicycle. i went through your windshield. >> duh. the delivery man eventually freed himself and went to the hospital with cuts and scrapes. the driver faces several preliminary charges, including suspicion of, all together now, drunken driving. i hate to tell you this but certain phrases have become part of our everyday conversations, and whether we know it or not,
