"the factor" begins right now. hi, i'm bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us tonight. why many americans cannot make much money. that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. a centerpiece of the democratic party strategy is to convince americans that the federal government can get you more money. and in some cases, that's true. new data from the department of agriculture, says 20% of all american homes are now receiving food stamps, a record. and plenty of those folks need help because incomes in america are dropping. since president obama took office in 2009, the median income has fallen 7% in the usa. it now stands at 52,000 bucks, down from 56,000 just a few

years back. there are many reasons this is happening. but competition is the main money. the usa assigned trade deals with china that have moved many jobs out of this country to china where wages are very low. also china puts high tariffs on our products making our stuff too expensive for many chinese people to buy. so american workers are getting hosed by that trade policy with china. on another front, obama care is making health insurance more expensive for many american workers, thus take home pay drops. also taxes in general going up, especially fees. there are fees for everything. tolls, that kind of stuff. they are draining our wallets. in response to the pressure on income, democrats promise entitlements, but of course, we the people must pay for them. i want every american to have good food, and i'm willing to

pay my fathfair hair to make th happen. economic deals in foreign countries hurting american workers, the new national health care law draining money from the folks, and high taxation gutting take home pay. that's why there is income in equality. now, the solution to the problem is simple, more well paying jobs. but the feds can't create those jobs. that must be done by the private sector. and private business must have incentives to hire. obama care discourages hiring in many prayses. and the high corporate tax rate in america means more money is kept overseas where it isn't taxed by huge companies. it's not being invested here. investment means jobs. the nanny state economy driven by far left social justice people, wreaking havoc in the working class precincts. that's the truth.

but the truth is complicated. and with people spending so much of their time surfing the net, texting, watching garbage tv, many don't understand economics. thus the false promise, the false promise of income equality is seducing some voters. and that's enough. now for the top story tonight, reaction to the democratic strategy of income inequality. and the former governor of virginia charged with corruption. all right, roeszen, we'll begin with you, what's new in the democratic income equality world? well, bill, your sketch just now of why income inequality exists didn't really take us to the fundamental point which is that it exists as a fundamental genius of the american

enterprise. nobody would want to live in a country where everybody -- in terms of the president of the united states making this a key push in the sixth year of his term for a midterm election cycle, mr. obama assumes a certain risk that this portrait of the american economy won't be construed as a kind of self-indictment. here's why. the greatest gain business the top 1% of people in this country, occurred in president obama's first term when he got that 8 -- according to reachers at uc berkeley, as liberal an academic institution as there is, between 2009 and 2012, the top 1% in this country captured 95% of the income gains that we saw in the first three years of the recovery. if you compare that with the clinton era, the 1990s, back then -- so why is --

>> does uc berkeley say why the fat cats are getting all the money? >> this is structural, the president hasn't helped a and his stimulus package clearly didn't help. but this has to do with long-term economic demographic and cultural changes in this country. and you did allude to some of those things, the dumbing down of america. >> some academics say, because of the explosion of high-tech, if you have a profitable brand, you now reach people 1,000 times faster than you used to. because of the internet and the lightning fast society that we live. and therefore the people who are established with good products and brands, boom, their income explodes, whereas the working people don't have that advantage. wrap it up, i got to get to cameron. >> ultimately this comes down to education and whether or not our education system is producing students who are equipped for

the new jobs of the 21st century. >> they got to have skills. cameron, you're out in iowa, why are you out is there. >> republicans and democrats are in the process of picking their party officials for the 2014 and 2016 campaigns. there's an interesting battle on the republican side where the party had been taken over by a bunch of ron paul's former supporters and they managed to take over all the offices for the state of iowa's republican party. the main stream is trying to push back against that a little more steady. >> it's inside political stuff in iowa, all right. former virginia governor bob mcdonnell, very serious charges leveled against him and his wife. they can both go to prison. tell us about what the government, the federal government says they did? the department of justice has put forth 14 indictments against the former governor of virginia, bob mcdonnell and his wife. they face a potential 20 years in prison each.

>> wow. >> if they were convicted on all of these charges. this is a lengthy investigation that's been under way for some time and it essentially revolves around allegations that mr. mcdonnell took a whole sort of gifts, clothing, trips and benefits from a long-time fend of his johnny williams who owned a company in exchange, the indictment asserts, for favors to promote that company, perhaps given opportunities to promote the company's product and perhaps a quid pro quo. when mcdonnell was first confronted with this, he said it wasn't so but then started to give some of these contributions back and there were allegations that he and his wife interfered, obstructed or did things to impede the investigation of the federal government into this. it's very, very serious. mr. mcdonnell has denied all the allegations.

his legal team has asked for a delay in what is to be the arraignment and bond hearing this friday in richmond, where the district federal court is. the justice department said they wouldn't object to that because mr. mcconnell's attorneys are out of town. it hasn't been delayed formally. but it's possible that the former governor of virginia and his wife will walk into court to be formally indicted and arraigned. >> part of the case is the feds are alleging that the mcdonnells have a lot of credit card debt and they had -- do you know anything about that? >> essentially what they're arguing is that this was on the up and up. why did so much of the money, these gifts go through family members and not be documented in the regular way that these things would be disclosed in the record. he's the state's former attorney general, he knows the laws well,

in this country, you found a couple of institutions. i don't think they're looking out for the kids generally speaking. >> i don't agree with that. but these cases, i think you're misrepresenting it a little bit. the person who was found looking at the porn, there were seven other people also who just got suspended for three days to 15 days and then he was fired and an arbitrator found that it was unfairly singled out. >> he was a teacher on the campus. others were administrators, they were all using the hardware, software. he was a teacher in middle school. >> i'm not endorsing looking -- any person? a teacher. during a school day on campus. >> he's not looking at it in the

i think i was upset when your producer called me to come on the show. i got my pit bull and my hot chocolate, i don't want to go out in this cold weather, it's blustery, there's ♪ drifts all over the place. i told my dog, you've got five seconds to do your business. of course she ignored me and went about my way. we getd, we get annoyed, we get cabin fear, we can't go out, mayors, governors, declaring emergencies, you can't go out on the road. generally speaking, we just don't like to have to deal with cold. part of the other challenge is that as you can imagine, during the cold months, it's also very dark, it gets dark earlier, so not only are we in because of inclement weather, the sun is not out as much.

when you look at all of those things, it can have sort of an impact on our affect and our mood generally speaking. now outside of that, we have something called seasonal affective disorder. s.a.d. ten million americans deal with the fact that their mood is affected negatively by the cold weather in the dark, and they get depressed, they have problems sleeping, sometimes they sleep too much. they like it up there, they're out there in the snowmobiles and doing what they want to do. so each person is different, each person is wired differently as far as climate is concerned, correct? >> right, right and when we see that, by the way when you talk about east coast, west coast. we talk about the east coast being cold and the people being somewhat cold and impersonally, west coast they're laid back, they're more likely to sort of connect with you. well, there's something to that because it is colder in the

north and it is warmer out on the west coast. and that can impact in real time how we look at that. we see people's personalities and temperaments over time can be affected by the sun or lack thereof. >> have you ever been to phoenix? august? there's nobody in the street. you can't, literally can't walk the street. so there's extreme heat because al gore is right, we're all going to be 120. does that affect people the same way that cold does? >> of course. i have been out to the west coast like in vegas, you know, which is the last time i was there it was 111. and i was frustrated by that, i had to go out and i was very agitated and what we see for example is -- people are more likely to lash out when they're hot as well. so we see stream temperatures and extreme behavior.

but many more white people voted for him because they wanted a black president and didn't vote him because they didn't want a black president. >> so it worked to his advantage in your opinion? >> i think white people by and large, looked and thought, geez, it's about time that we have a black president. a lot of people didn't know much about him, i know gene simmons, i remember on my show from kiss, i think many more white people voted for him based on the color of his skin. i don't think you do. i mean, it just doesn't affect me in any way at all now. i have to analyze crime stats and it disturbs me that young black men are dominating in that arena. when i make a decision on some money, whether it be their friend or whether to hire them, it never come into my mind. do you think that i'm the norm or that most people do see

color, no matter what color it is? you just mean it doesn't mean anything, right? >> it's not a factor, pardon the pun. i thought this will be good for this country god bless them. now in the interim five years. it's nonjudgmental in any way, except he's an inept civil servant. men of all races, creeds, colors, faiths, they can all stink at being president. >> nothing about him personally, skin color or his belief system, personal belief system has affected your valuation. you're just doing it on policy. >> do you even hear what you're saying? so i have an evaluation -- i
