and word of the day, don't be a cacogen when writing to the factor. it is going to be a good one, again, thank you for joining us. we'll look at the political payback and on bill o'reilly, remember, the spin stops here, because we're looking out for you. i'm megyn kelly, on "the kelly file," and new drama for rising star wendy davis. plus? >> i think that the liberal media doesn't want to report about the truth. >> a kelly file exclusive as we bring you inside today's march for life in washington. and then? would you be a guest tomorrow night? >> after she refused to answer questions on "the kelly file." now, there is new dramatic developments in the story of this new jersey mayor trying to bring down chris christie. and did you see this? >> i'm the best corner in the game, that is the result you will get. >> millions did, a number of
6:01 pm
people complained. now, the football player has a message for his critics. you're racist. and glen beck made news tonight. wait until you see what beck brings tonight on "the kelly file." and breaking tonight, just days before president obama delivers his state-of-the-union address, brand-new polling shows both the president and his agenda are in big trouble with the american people. welcome, i'm megyn kelly. the quinnipiac university poll finding that among four of voter's top five priorities, president obama is getting historically low grades. on the economy, 56% disapprove of the job he is doing, on health care, possibly his central focus, 59% of people disapprove of how he is handling it. on foreign policy, handling of iran, more voters disapprove of his job, considering these
6:02 pm
numbers it may be no surprised that when americans were asked do you think the obama administration has been competent in running the government, a clear majority, 53% say no, we do not. and tonight, we have just released fox news polling with possibly the clearest sign of falling approval for the president and his agenda, tonight, less than a third of americans say they like the president and his policies. look at that. that is down 15 percentage points in just 14 months. and there is more. former speech writer for george w. bush and a "washington post" columnist, mark those are devastating numbers for the president. >> yeah, those are pretty devastating numbers going into his state-of-the-union address next week. and look, if you look at the numbers it is four and a half years now since the recession officially ended. three quarters of american people still believe we're in recession. that is a remarkable number, you
6:03 pm
showed the top two priorities americans have, the economy and health care, the numbers are upside down. that is a big problem going into the state-of-the-union address. but it is not his biggest problem, his biggest problem is that americans don't trust him anymore. the gallup found that americans, the majority of americans believe he lied to us when he said you can keep your health care plan. that is devastating for him in the state-of-the-union address. when people don't trust you anymore, they tune you out. if they think you're honest, or trustworthy, if people think you lied to them it is very hard to turn that around, that is what he is facing next week. >> and he is reportedly going to make that the focus of the state of the union. one third of the people believe his policies helped the country, less than a third. now, we have a liberal president
6:04 pm
who has been arguing all along for these big government policies and the question is with less than a third of the country believing that he has helped the economy, whether there is any road forward for left-le left-leaning politicians like this current president, and big government. >> and there are two polls, one, a gallup poll, showing two thirds of the country not only don't like the direction we're going as a country but they believe that government is too big and too powerful. so the problem he has going into his speech next week the solutions to these problems he will propose is big government. that is exactly the opposite of what americans want. his solutions are out -- one, people are not listening because they don't trust him. and two, his solutions are out of touch with what the american people want in terms of policy change. >> and on that front, you know, the biggest expansion of government we've seen under this
6:05 pm
president is of course, obamacare. and we had major news on that today both with target announcing that its part-time employees will no longer be getting health care from their employer. so employer-based health care is starting to be affected. and aetna is threatening as to whether or not they are going to participate in the obamacare. >> so this is bad for obama, americans don't trust him, believing he lied when he said you can keep your health care. and there is a second wave of cancellations coming up. all the people in the employer-based plans, the people in small businesses and large businesses like target will have their plans changed. and it will be even bigger than the number of people who lost plans in the individual market. >> it is happening already, and what you have seen with target, with trader joe's, and some of these other large companies. that is just the tip of the
6:06 pm
iceberg. once target pushes people off into obamacare and cancels plans, other businesses will do the same. and then you have the small businesses that found a loophole, that will allow them to cancel. and come october you will have millions getting cancellations from their employer-based plans. and so the lie is still in front of the voters, as we go into the mid-term election. >> they denied it, you predicted it. others predicted it as well that it would start to part-time employees. they denied it would happen, it is already happening, we don't know the numbers but people are getting booted off their employer-based health care and essentially will be forced to go onto healthcare.gov if they want coverage. thank you, mark. thank you, megyn. also tonight, developing, new jersey mayor, the woman leveling ugly accusations against christie's office. ms. zimmer alleged that chris christie's administration with held hurricane sandy relief
6:07 pm
funds as political retribution against her. but when we tried to check her facts, she ran from our questions, watch. >> and back up your claims, and now -- would you be a guest tomorrow night? ms. zimmer? >> now, it is not just our cameras she is refusing to face. trace gallagher has more on the story. >> and to be clear, megyn, the hoboken mayor first made the allegations here, she said the u.s. attorneys office has asked we not conduct media interviews and we respect their request. i stand by my original allegations. she claims new jersey's lieutenant governor and state commissioner of community development on behalf of governor christie issued the
6:08 pm
ultimatum, saying approve it or risk sandy relief funds. she says the lieutenant governor said, quote, you need to move forward with the rockefeller group project or we're not going to be able to help you. the lieutenant governor responded with this, listen. >> so yes, i am very surprised by the mayor's allegations. and i deny wholeheartedly the allegations. >> but the mayor is questioned about her timing after she claims the administration tried a quid pro quo, she said, to be clear, i'm glad he is the governor, and has done a good job for new jersey and hoboken. when asked why she never told anybody about the funds being with held, she said nobody would have believed her until bridge gate. listen. >> as we look at the parallels,
6:09 pm
tion using ls are you have the their authority to try and get something. i don't know what they're trying to get on the bridgegate. but i do know what they were trying to get in hoboken. >> keep in mind, the u.s. attorney's office has not issued any comment about the statement, megyn. >> all right, trace, thank you. a kelly file exclusive, with an inside look at the 41st annual march for life rally today in washington, d.c. tonight, we have footage for the man who marched with the tens of thousands of supporters. she gathered to mark the supreme court decision that struck down anti-abortion laws, roe versus wade. despite the thousands braving the cold it is not getting a lot of national media attention. >> last year the day a after the march for life, there was a small anti-gun rally, and they
6:10 pm
got more attention. >> why do you think that is? >> i think the liberal media doesn't want to report the truth about abortion in pro-life america. >> michael lynch is an investigative filmmaker who was at the rally today and took the footage. dennis, what did you find? >> other than my hands being frostbitten, i found droves and droves and droves of people. you know, megyn, i cover a lot of these marches. i have never seen one so big. in fact, it was like trying to film the grand canyon there were so many people. and the most impressive part about it was that the majority of the people there were kids, youths, teens, and none of them. you would never be able to tell that it was so cold. they were all happy. everything was positive. and again, i go to these rallies and sometimes you will have somebody who is a little nutty or you hear curse words.
6:11 pm
or they slam the opposite view point, not today. these people were completely 100% positive expressing their first amendment right. that was the beautiful part of today. go ahead. >> let me ask you this. because earlier on fox we showed the latest polls, suggesting that the views on abortion in this country are changing. which a lot of people didn't believe was going to happen. they thought you know, people held these views one way or the other and it would be entrenched. but look, it is 3/4 pro-life position in the country, 48 to 45. just three years ago it was opposite, eight points in favor of the pro-choice position. and others say it is because of things like technology, more and more we see sonograms, showing a four-week old fetus, which can be aborted. this shows the video of that.
6:12 pm
it is tough to turn a blind eye to. was that discussed today? >> oh, yeah, what you're showing right now there were signs in the thousands like that. and you know, megyn, i -- i like to know about my topics before i cover them. i went to this march today. i learned so much. just from listening to the speeches. and this is where the irresponsibility comes into the mainstream media. you cannot solve problems by hiding from them or pretending that they don't exist, or pretending that hundreds of thousands of people are not going to march through the streets. the way you bring people together and solve problems is by addressing them. and the mainstream media, a lot of people said thank goodness for fox. can i tell you a quick story, what i saw today that hurt? there were so many kids going through the street. and there i see signs that say pro-life from syracuse, new york, carried by kids. and i couldn't help but to think
6:13 pm
that their governor, their governor just said we don't want you in our state. what kind of leader does that? i'll tell you what, governor cuomo, as a new yorker we don't need governors like you in the united states of america. >> and he has yet to apologize for those comments. david michael lynch. >> who needs his apology? good to see you. >> good to see you, all the best. and developing tonight, new fallout for wendy davis, and doing damage control, sort of. after news surfaced earlier this week that her rags to riches story was not true entirely. davis says her republican opponent, greg abbott, is behind the attacks and now launched her own assault saying i am proud of where i came from and i am proud of what i've been able to achieve through hard work and perseve perseverence, and her opponent
6:14 pm
has been confined to a wheelchair. dana lash is a contributor at the blaze.com. dana, i mean, i don't know if she just stepped in it there, but the point is, of course she knows that greg abbott is wheelchair-bound. but even the suggestion that he doesn't understand struggle, and the attacks on him for calling her out on what she admits are misstatements, has struck an interesting chord today in the media coverage. >> yeah. megyn, i heard doubling down on this has confused me and i think everybody else so greatly. first off for her to say something like that. i think her ex-husband needs to question how far his money at harvard went, because you would think the candidate would carefully choose their words. he said he never talked to anybody in abbott's campaign, and it is not greg abbott who is criticizing wendy davis, it is people like me. she is my senator now, i've been in texas for a month.
6:15 pm
wendy davis is my texas senator. i found it odd, she thinks if you criticize her, you don't understand the struggle. i think greg abbott understands the struggle, because as you mentioned he has been in a wheelchair for some years. she realizes her language could have been tighter, which i have no idea what phrase that even is, and then she comes back, doubles back up on it and said well, if you're criticizing me, you're sexist, you don't understand my struggle. haven't walked a day in my shoes, of course greg abbott doesn't, he is in wheels. it seems she should be more careful with her words. >> let me give the viewers what she says, no false attack can take away my story, and neither can any sleazy political trick. she says greg abbott's desperate attacks prove he doesn't understand the texas stories about struggle. and she says you're damn right it is a true story what i told.
6:16 pm
but this thing is, dana, it is not true. the bulk of it is true. but she got caught misleading about yes, when she got a divorce and how long she lived in a trailer park. the main one is, whether she really did in fact put herself through school. which now we find out it is her ex-husband who put her through the last two years of under-graduate and harvard law school. and he testified it was the day after he made the final school loan payment, that she left him. >> in fact, she didn't even have custody of her children, jeff davis quoted her as saying, it is not a good time for me right now. i mean, was she just struggling as a single parent. the really story of single parenthood is jeff davis, jeff davis is a better single mother than wendy davis is, he is a great single father. they don't get enough credit. that is the single parenthood that should be celebrated in the story. she wants to say her story is not unique, rather, it really is
6:17 pm
quite unique. my mother was a single mother, she raised me for the better part of over a decade. and my mother would have loved to have had a harvard education, so it is very unique to wendy davis. >> well, we'll see how she manages to get herself out of this trouble now if at all. in fact, coming up, and dana, my thanks to you, coming up, we'll speak to former counsel to bill clinton. and he will explain how she got herself in so much trouble, he has literally written the book on crisis management and doesn't agree on how wendy davis has gone about this. first tonight on "the kelly file," seven years in the making. this week, we'll get a look at the romney family's journey on how to win the white house. but first, we have a sneak peak of what really went on inside the romney camp. this is fascinating, watch. >> very hard time in these
6:18 pm
debates, george herbert walker did, they feel like who is this whippersnapper who comes up and knows nothing? the president of the united states, i'm commander in chief, i know all of these things, and so they don't prepare. they don't prepare. and they just think they can waltz through it. >> and greg whitley is the filmmaker who followed him every step of the way, good to see you. >> unprecedented access through two of his presidential bids, how did you get it? >> i'm not quite sure how i got it. i know from my perspective, i just read a bit in the newspaper that described in 2006 the governor of massachusetts will gather with his family in park city over the christmas holiday to discuss whether or not he was going to run for president. and to me, when i read that, that sounded like the beginning of a really great movie. >> right, so you hit up the family, you followed them around, you see the romneys in a way. many people didn't get to see
6:19 pm
them during the course of the campaign. what i saw was a very loving family man. we did see that in the campaign. a man who loves his wife and children and his loved by them. who is relaxed with his private time with his family. did you see a difference? some of his critics say oh, he is so different behind the scenes versus what we saw on the campaign trail. >> from my perspective i felt like i was so immersed in the campaign, but when i brought the footage home to my wife who followed the campaign on cable news, she was shocked at what she saw. i don't think it is a news flash that mitt romney is a family man. what i think is unique is that every person who ran for public office claims they are a family man or woman. the footage i have is so stripped down and bare and authentic, when he shows he is a family man -- >> not so much a family man, he is a good man.
6:20 pm
>> i do think so it was not my intent to do that. i think by becoming a fly on the wall, you will capture it. there are awkward moments and insecure moments and moments when mitt romney himself found uncomfortable when he screened the movie for the first time friday night. he is a decent person and the footage shows that. >> there is this clip from his son who talks about whether or not he should run. watch this. >> and if you don't win, we'll still love you. the country may think of you as a laughing stock and we'll know the truth. and that is okay. >> that was in 2006. >> yeah. >> the family has been behind him the whole way. >> yeah, oh, yeah. that is one of the things i found remarkable. i feel like i have a close family. that i would go and spend a couple of weeks with the romneys on the road and i would come back ashamed -- that is the wrong word, but they set the bar. >> wanting to do better. >> yeah, i did. >> one thing that made news in
6:21 pm
the film is that there is a moment where you capture, it is when mitt romney realizes he has lost the election in 2012. and there is a discussion about whether they should call karl rove on fox news and tell him to stand down on the challenge he now infamously made about whether we had called ohio too soon. and the viewers will remember, we don't need to play the sound, but to show the video of what happened that night. do you remember that moment? is that something discussed by mr. romney and whether karl should continue the challenge? >> i was not privy to what karl rove was saying, but on the reports it was excruciating to be there and realize -- i just sort of assumed they would have reports. the family would have some sort of access that would supercede on the cable, when it became
6:22 pm
obvious they were losing it is just excruciating to hang on and wait for surrogates like karl rove. >> thank you so much, we appreciate it. the film is called "mitt." premieres on fridays. coming up. anything we purchase for the paper cottage goes on our ink card. so you can manage your business expenses and access them online instantly with the game changing app from ink. we didn't get into business to spend time managing receipts, that's why we have ink. we like being in business because we like being creative, we like interacting with people. so you have time to focus on the things you love. infrom chase. so you can. take this simple test. press your tongue against it, like this. it moves! do you feel it? it can happen with every denture. these movements mairritate your gums. but you don't have to bear with it. you can try fixodent plus gum care. thanks to its formula,

well, as we mentioned, rising democratic star wendy davis is under fire again tonight, this time for blaming her republican opponent in the texas governor's race for questions about her quote, struggles to succeed. lanny davis is a special counsel to former president clinton and literally wrote the book, i should say, on crisis manager. called "crisis tales" by lanny davis, you didn't write the boke -- you wrote the book. and it is right here, and i'm looking through this book, lanny, the first one says in the preface, tell it all, tell it early, okay, she didn't do that. >> no, she didn't, i have to separate my personal regard for her, and the life she led. she was a single mother and went
6:53 pm
to harvard law school. she has been a successful politician in texas and i think she did a very brave thing on the abortion issue. so that is my opinion, but as a professional crisis manager i don't think she got out in front on some of the soft spots that have been raised and addressed them very quickly. the last thing she should do is blame the media or her opponent, and address things that were meant to be addressed -- >> she could have said i'm working on my tighter language. the truth is she misled people. i get that people are saying what, she said she got a divorce at 19, and really it was 21, all right, whatever. >> whatever. >> she lived in a trailer park but turns out it was only for a short period of time. people suggest she made the impression she was there for a long period of time. it turns out her husband paid for the last two years of her under grad and the final two years of harvard, then he says
6:54 pm
she left him. so they feel she has not been quite honest with them. >> the reason they say tell it early, tell it all is that the appropriate strategy is people will forgive when you make mistakes. and i don't know what the facts here are. i certainly don't assume there is anything intentional. certainly people 19, 21, you're right, whatever. but the fact is she is a woman who achieved a great deal in her life starting out at a single mom and going to harvard law school and doing what she has done. i think you're absolutely right, megyn, she should have given her husband credit for helping her through law school. and that would have been something to have volunteered up front, rather than react to. >> so she is turning a positive into a negative by misstating the facts about the story, rather than just stating them right. and to be caught misstating them. she should say, you're right, instead of correcting them. instead, she talks about tweets, saying no false attacks can take
