wish to opine word of the day no jejune and megyn kelly is next. the spin stops here because we're always looking out for you. did you just see that mike huckabee segment on "the factor"? well, you will want to watch what is next. that they are helpless without uncle sugar coming in and providing them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido. >> governor mike huckabee in a firestorm over women and birth control. he is here in a kelly file exclusive. and then? >> obama has a dream a dream from his father. >> the man behind the documentary challenging president obama is now under indictment. see why his supporters think this is political payback.

plus nothing but a 2.0 upgrade. >> the left ramps up its tea party attacks with an eye on the mid-term we have one fierce debate just ahead. and what about aaron? >> when you put me with a guard like crabtree that is what you're going to get. >> see why one of the favorite sports reporters is getting attacked on the side show. tonight, on "the kelly file". breaking tonight, the man at the heart of a new political fire storm speaks out on "the kelly file." good evening everyone, i'm megyn kelly. for years we saw criticism levelled at former arkansas governor mike huckabee over remarks he made at a republican committee meeting last night. cnn's dana bash, just said said government shouldn't help women who can't control their libido
6:02 pm
with birth control. from there it was on. keep talking mike huckabee your creepy obsession with women's libido will just elect more democrats. and there are dozens and dozens like that. while all over critics slammed the governor. >> it is not what i think republicans were planning on. >> sounds offensive to me and women. >> it is clear he doesn't think women should have birth control. >> some women out there probably were wincing when they heard that. >> this is getting back to the narrative of slut-shaming. and if white men could get pregnant abortion would be a concept. >> talking about women's libido or uncle sugar, or a sugar daddy is not a good picture. >> but now the governor is fighting back as are some of his
6:03 pm
defenders saying his comments are taken out of context and dana bash had to correct her original tweet. because here is what the governor actually said yesterday. >> women i know are outrage that had the democrats think that women are nothing but helpless creatures whose only goal is to have government provide for them birth control information. women i know are smart, capable of doing anything else anybody can do. our party stands for the capacity of women, and the equality of women. that is not a war on them, it is a war for them. and if the democrats want to insult the women of america by making them believe that they are helpless without uncle sugar coming in and providing them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their pre productive system without the help of the government, then so be it. let's take the discussion all
6:04 pm
over america because women are far smarter than the democrats made them out to be. and women are standing up and saying enough of that nonsense. >> joining me now the host of mike huckabee right here on the fox news channel. governor, good to see you. we've shown the viewers the fire storm that erupted and the criticisms of you. let me get right to you and ask you directly are you suggesting that women who use birth control cannot control their libidos? >> of course not. in fact, everything i was accused of saying i was actually saying the polar opposite. this was an affirmation of the intelligence and capability of women, i've been married 40 years to a wonderful strong person who can do things i can't do. she is smart capable, and doesn't need someone to prop her up, because like my wife, my daughter, my daughter in law,
6:05 pm
i'm insulted for them. and they're insulted when the democrats portray them as victims of their gender. so it was not contraceptives. it is how the democrats are waging a war on women when we believe that women are our equal. we don't think it is somehow going to be necessary for them to have a government subsidy and government support or they're not going to be able to make it. >> okay, this is where some women and others have taken issue with you. that the democrats would say they don't view women as the victims of their gender, they view them as living, functioning human being s human beings who have a reproductive system. and the ones who have to carry the babies, and therefore, and by the way sexual beings, and therefore, to be responsible when having sexual relations they need birth control. even if they're not having sexual relations for the purpose of enjoyment then they might
6:06 pm
need birth control because they have a health issue. they have a medical issue. and it is not about seeing women as victims it is about getting them the medical coverage they need. >> and megyn to that point, i'm not opposed to women having contraception or birth control, then i don't want to pay for them out of my tax dollars. i think it is morally repugnant. i signed a bill regarding birth control so i'm not opposed to having access to it. i'm opposed to democrats treating women as though they are somehow incapable of being able to function unless the democrats and particularly the government comes in to rescue them. and if people listen which by the way, meagan, it was exactly the exact words i said on my television show a week ago. >> the words were a little different from a week ago. i think you admit you said it a
6:07 pm
little better on the radio show than you said at the rnc meeting. >> i still used the word "libido" i don't think anything is wrong with that. women have it, men have it. >> you put it in the terms of control, that women need the government in order to control their libidos. and that sounded to many you were placing a judgment on it. first of all, you acknowledge the vast majority of people the adults in this country have libidos and act on them and the vast majority of people use birth control when they desire not to have a baby as a result of those instincts, and are you casting any judgment on that? the use of birth control, by couples have intercourse who are not looking to have a baby. >> my pushback was not about con contraception
6:08 pm
contraception, it is the phoney out looks that the democrats have owe-- >> here is what they say, they say, endometriosis can be helped by birthcontrol. okay? other syndromes can be helped by birth control. bad skin can be helped by birth control. there are all sorts of reasons why women take birth control and there is no reason they shouldn't be able to get it from their employers. that is what they say. and they say it is not the government paying for it it is the women paying for it when they pay their premiums under their policies. so they take issue with it when you say uncle ugandasugar is coming in to take care of it. >> if they had grown up in the south they would have known that uncle sugar is the combination of uncle sam and a sugar
6:09 pm
expression, it is a colorful way to live and talk in the south. so the idea that somehow i was disparageing women is the polar opposite. that is what is ridiculous about these treats. this is a serious issue that ought to have thoughtful discussion, it can't be reduced to 140 characters, which is unfortunately i think what happened yesterday. the reporters reduced it to a tweet. they got it wrong and corrected it but by then the fire storm had started. but if people will listen carefully in context, now if they parse every word they can believe what they want to believe. the idea that i was taking offense to women, i was the opposite, i was affirming that women are quite capable, equals to men. why when i was governor i appointed more women to executive positions of state governor than any other governor in our state including bill
6:10 pm
clinton. so i'm not having to apologize to anybody for the record on women's issues, and don't have to say that i'm so sorry that women are equal to men and capable and strong. the point was not about that issue, but how democrats accused the republicans of having a war on women. and i pushed barkck on that. >> and have reduced women to being about all of that, we had a lot of that in the last campaign. great to see you, governor. >> thank you. well you saw just a little the media reaction in that lead to the governor. and bernie goldberg is with me now, a fox news analyst, bernie listen he has a valid point that the democratic national convention featured woman after woman after woman who would have us believe that the only issue that defines us as women is our
6:11 pm
desire for birth control. right? and that may explain in part why we've seen so many jump all over the governor on his remarks. >> listen i watched the tape. i watched his remarks. and it is absolutely clear at least to me that he was attacking, or at least taking on the democratic party for treating women as if they are not too smart and can't -- >> or we're all about that one issue. >> yeah, so you know, he was taking on the democrats for being being paternalistic. having said that i would give the governor or anybody else seeking a spot in the white house, don't use the word
6:12 pm
"libido". >> or if you're interviewing anyone don't use the word "intercourse". >> unless you want to deal with it days or weeks or months or years from now if you decide to run for president. because this is how it works. when a conservative republican talks about women and sex there is a knee-jerk reaction similar to the reaction when the doctor hits you on the knee with a rubber mallet, it is that automatic. and that reaction will be outrage. >> nancy pelosi, deborah wasserman-schultz, everybody slamming him on this, bernie. when we put it on the segment, the original tweet from dana bash which she corrected herself, she did. and then another reporter made the same mistake and corrected herself, but the damage was done. he says -- that women can't control their libido.
6:13 pm
he says the democrats believe that. that may or may not a fair characterization, i asked him about that. but he never said he believed that. >> look, you're absolutely right and so is he here is a good rule of thumb. it is my rule of thumb that if a conservative republican is going to use the word "libido" then he will take more heat for that than president obama is going to take about whether the health care website is secure from hackers. or whether hillary clinton should be responsible for the lax security at benghazi. now, think about that. i don't think that is an exaggerate rotationationion exaggeration. but think about that. he is going to take more heat for saying something that maybe was not as elegantly said as it should have been, than hillary clinton takes for benghazi or president obama takes for the healthcare.gov website? >> i don't remember all of this

outrage with some of these folks on the left when he suggested what we all know he suggested about a conservative woman. bernie, i have to run, always great to see you. >> okay, all right thank you. we're taking your thoughts on it right now, send me your tweets. and breaking news, the u.s. supreme court weighs in this evening on a fight at the white house and a group of nuns. trace gallagher has more. >> and have you to remember, the churches are exempt on the providing the birth control. and they are elderly nuns in a catholic environment, apparently not religious enough to be exempt. the administration did offer groups like little sisters of the poor to opt out of the mandate as long as they signed a federal form allowing a third party to provide their employees contraception and abortion drugs
6:15 pm
and other reproductive services. the nuns said signing the form would be morally wrong. and today, the supreme court at least for now agrees. listen. >> i think the real question here is truly why is the government forcing the little sisters of the poor and other religious plaintiffs to provide contraceptives? the government is big, powerful and can find many other ways to distribute contraceptives that don't include nuns. >> so they can be except by sending health and human services a letter saying they're opposed to the law. the supreme court made it clear if they ever did hear the case today's decision is not an indicator of how the court would ultimately rule. now's planned parenthood says this was not about religious
6:16 pm
liberty liberty, but was about paperwork, but those who fought for the nuns strongly disagree. >> the supreme court decision made today applies to little sisters and also provides to 400 other catholic organizations that are insured through the same insurer. i think that this is going to have repercussions on all the indications associated with the hhs mandate. >> the timing on the court still very much unclear. >> trace thank you. developing tonight well-known conservative filmmaker seen here leaving a manhattan court just hours ago. isusu pled not guilty that he violated campaign finance laws by donating to a campaign that was ultimately not won.
