president should say. big state-of-the-union factor. tomorrow tomorrow night, 11:00, state of the union reaction. state-of-the-union reaction. welcome to "hannity" tonight, we have a jam-packed ed welcome to hannity. tonight we have a jam-packed edition of the show. america are you ready? mitt romney like you've never seen him before. i'm headed down to d.c. to see the state of the union tomorrow in the same room with president obama. now this should be interesting. jay leno and jimmy fallon talk for the first time about the late night shake up. onwon't believe what beckel did when we were down in florida
10:01 pm
this weekend. he is here to explain. >> he took advantage of a girl that was 20 years old. plus the most controversial question of the day. is bill clinton a sexual predator? hannity starts right now. and in less than 24 hours, president obama will lay out his agenda for the next year when he delivers the state of the union address. and joining me right now is fox news' own ed henry. where are the bottom line is the aides are signaling that this will be a bit of a power play. the president will say yes, he's willing to work with congress on some issue bs but he's prepared to bypass congress. i pressed jay carney today on whether that means he would sign the keystone pipeline for example. he said no. the state department is still studying. well, republican leaders responded by saying the state
10:02 pm
department has been studying that for years now. and they believe that the president doesn't have a god report card from last year's state of the union when he also pushed for immigration reform, gun control, a hike in the minimum wage. he got virtually none of that. and white house officials will push back on it by saying, look, it was republican obstructionism that prevented the president from getting any of that agenda and they believe that justifies him moving forward now with a much more aggressive executive push in the days ahead. but the bottom line is he's going into the state of the union address tomorrow night with a much weaker hand than last year's state of the union, a new poll out today says only 37% of the country has a strong bit of trust in the president to make the right decisions. that shows why he is pushing so hard with an executive focused agenda now. time is running out in office. he's getting closer and closer as we get closer to the mid-term elections to being a lame duck.
10:03 pm
he wants to push forward with as much as possible, go around congress. >> and it sounds confrontational, but we do have separation of powers. this has come up with recess appointments, not enforcing immigration laws for example. if he takes other unilateral actions, it seems like this is, sounds like a showdown, almost. >> reporter: he's been able to do thatten o issues like re-writing the health care law as you say, we were told privately to expect a lot more executive actions regarding the epa and climate change. that's going to frustrate republicans on the hill. on some of this, it will be confrontational. he's been able to make changes to the law. on other issue, though, we've seen him with that we can't wait initiatives where he was taking all kinds of executive actions, but at the end o if you don't get congress on board, some of these moves won't have a lot of teeth. joining me now is the man
10:04 pm
that frankly, i wish was giving tomorrow's state of the union address. former presidential candidate mitt romney is back with us. good to see you. >> thank, sean, good to be with you again. >> you heard the report. it sounds a little confrontational to me. he will use unilateral executive action. he's done that before, changing the obamacare law itself. recess appointments when they're not in recess. do you think that's a good strategy? >> i guess he's trying very hard to get something done. he really didn't have an agenda for his second term. he's groping to find one and to show some type of progress eon his agenda. another president can take things in a different agenda. congress can step in and write a law that takes things in a different direction. you're not accomplishing a real legacy as a president unless you can work with people in both parties. knock some heads together if
10:05 pm
they have to be knocked together or work on a more crab rative basis and solve the problems we have. work together with republicans to come up with something that can be acceptable to people in both parties. >> think about this. it's really over a year later and we're at a point where 63% of americans are not confident that he can make the right decision for the country, and more importantly, most americans do not see him as honest and trustworthy. those numbers did not exist when you were running against him in 2012. why do you think it's changed so dramatically in just a little over a year? >> well, actually, just during the election month or so there was a sense that the economy had turned around and everything was getting better in a big hurry so people felt positive about what was happening in the country. in the year that followed, we realize that the economy really had not turned around as people had hoped for. and at the same time i think the revelation that the president's
10:06 pm
campaign promise that if you like your health care policy you can keep it, when they found out that was not true, the american people saw him in a very different light. and it's a very difficult thing to try to reestablish a reputation for integrity and honesty if you've lost it in such a dramatic way as those promises demonstrated. >> you had a unique perspective running against him that i guess only john mccain had had before you. but you got to spend more time with him and see i am up close and personal. i maid, my impression early on that he was a ridge id ideologue remains today. which maybe he doesn't have the instincts of bill clinton to pivot and admit he's wrong and try something new and different. when were you with him alone and personally, when you saw him up close, what did you see? >> well, i'm not going to describe what he said to me, but we had a meeting together in the white house after the election
10:07 pm
and i laid out the things that i thought were important for the country and for him. my own view that look, this guy's the president of the greatest country on earth at a time when america is sliding internationally. sliding economically, where people are more poor in this country, the number of people on food stamps has exploded. the number of people in the middle class that are having a hard time making things meet. all these things are happening under his watch. >> you compared him to putin over the weekend. what did you mean by that? >> what i said was that with regards to syria, putin has outmaneuvered president obama. but look, on the international areas, putin has not only dealt with syria in a way that made the president take second fiddle, but the new stark treaty is an enormous win for russia. under the new treat eye, russia ends up with two to three times
10:08 pm
as many nuclear warheads as we have. the president has been outmaneuvered on the world stage by president putin. but by the way, president putin is a terrible president. he's a thug. he's killed, from what we can tell, i don't know that i want to accuse him of killing, but tare have been members of the media that have disappeared and opposition voices that have been put in jail and so forth. this is not a good guy. our president's a lot better president than president putin, but it breaks my heart to watch president putin outmaneuver him on the world stage. >> russia now has a foothold in the middle east that they haven't had in decades. a lot of people wrote me over the weekend because they released this movie. were you followed for a considerable period of time, you and your family throughout the campaign. and more than a few people said why didn't we see this side of mitt romney before the election. i want to play a small part of
10:09 pm
it. and this is when you got news that you weren't going to be the next president and everyone had the same feeling, would you have won had people been able to see maybe another side of you. let me air this for you. >> i just can't believe you're going to lose. >> yeah. yeah. >> so what do you think you say in a concession speech? by the way, somebody have a number for the president? >> does any one have the number for the president? it shows you with your family and the snow, rolling around and the fun. all these different things. is it hard during the campaign to maybe show that side of yourself because of the environment that you're in? >> well, you know, there's no question but that we failed as campaign to do that as effectively as we'd like to have. we had at the convention for instance a continue minute film that showed me with my family
10:10 pm
with many of the clips that maid it into the movie. there were people ne convention that step forward and talked about our relationship in the past, but not a lot of people watch conventions. so people didn't see those testimonials. it's getting harder and harder, i think, to see behind the debates and the attacks of different campaigns to see who the person really is. and frankly, i wish we'd done a better job at that. and i hope that the next guy or gal coming along in our party is able to communicate better so the people will not be led astray by the strategy of the opposition. >> i saw you on jimmy fallon's
10:11 pm
show doing a show jam with jimmy fallon and i'm going to play it and get your reaction to this. >> i'll be supporting the republican nominee 100%. >> don't you mean 47%? >> that's a low blow, but it's pretty funny. >> you like doing stuff like that? >> i sure do. i must admit, over the last few years, it has been an absolute thrill to sit down with jay leno, also with dave letterman a couple times. jimmy fallon is a very funny guy and really easy to be interviewed by. i'm going to miss jay leno. he's been a remarkable friend. and i don't know what his politics are, but just a really good guy. that's part of the fun of running for president. you get to meet some of these extraordinarily famous people, see how tall they are, see what they're hike like in real life. i met you. >> i'm a big leno fan. i wish he wasn't leaving late night.
