you some he something, say something. thank you. >> you're i welcome. we are tracking another major winter storm bringing heavy snow to the midwest. this is some of the snow coming down in st. john, indiana, last night. take a look at that. wow. chicago could see four to eight inches of snow. detroit braces for some additional freezing rain and heads east just in time for the super bowl. meteorologist janice dean has more in the extreme weather center following all the particulars of this weather front. >> can i tell you we are so lucky to get this game in in new jersey because we are going to get 12 hours of good weather and then it goes downhill from there. let's take a look at it. see the temperatures where it's cold enough for snow in chicago? kansas city, 20 minneapolis. you've got this cold front marching eastward. going to pick up moisture across the gulf of mexico. we'll talk about that because that is going to bring the northeast perhaps some

measurable snow sunday night overnight into monday. we are going to get that super bowl game in with relatively mild weather. incredible. watch this roller coaster ride. there is this storm across the midwest. chicago 4-8 inches possible up towards detroit. then a mixing of freezing rain and/or sleet. in some cases travel will be next to impossible again this weekend for some of these areas. winter weather advisories for parts of northern texas in through oklahoma. then this system is going to grab some gulf of mexico moisture. by sunday morning looking at snow across north texas. maybe a wintry mix through dallas. moving into arkansas. the mid mississippi valley, ohio valley, south of that mainly a rain event. look at this. all snow overnight sunday night into monday. we could get a swath of 6-12 inches heavy snow from philadelphia to new york up to boston. quick mover, but it could bring

up some snow. temperatures are going to be warm for super bowl sunday. then it's going to drop like a rock and that system is going to move through. i can't tell you how fortunate it's going to be for those super bowl goers in new jersey because this storm is going to come like 1:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m. into monday and cause a lot of problems on the roads monday morning. >> if i hear you correctly, they are going to watch the super bowl then they are going to high tail it out of here to try to beat that storm. >> at this point, yes. we've got to get people home after midnight because we have another snowstorm to watch monday morning. incredible. incredible. >> janice dean, thank you. i think. >> be careful out there, everybody. also in new jersey, let me give you in you developments in the bridgegate scandal surrounding the office of governor chris christie. now a former port authority official who oversaw the lane closures at the george washington bridge in question claims evidence exists that

proves governor christie knew exactly what was happening before he says he did. david wildstein who was also a former childhood friend of christie's made a claim in a letter submitted through his lawyer. did he not elaborate on what that evidence might be. the scandal over the closures erupted when a chain of e-mails revealed members of the christie administration purposefully shut down several lanes of the gw bridge as part of an alleged political payback scheme. governor christie continues to deny any involvement. a disappointing end to this week's first round of peace talks aimed at ending syria's bloody civil war. emerging from the conference in geneva with no real agreement in sight or hopes of a possible cease-fire. our national security correspondent jennifer griffin is live in washington with more details. >> hi, kelly. one day after u.s. brokered peace talked in geneva failed to

achieve any progress on syria, the syrian army continued dropping explosives-filled barrel bombs on rebel-held civilian areas advancing in aleppo. one man pointed to the charred bodies of relatives killed by the regime and said this is what the political process looks like. the observatory for human rights reports that 1,900 syrians were killed during the ten-day peace talks including 450 civilians. >> translator: my children adam and maria have not eaten anything since yesterday. he awakened me in the morning and said i'm hungry. i hit him when he said i'm hungry because there is nothing i can do. >> in aleppo a 14-month-old girl was pulled from the rubble after being buried alive when war planes struck her home on the eve of the talks. she is among the lucky one whose survived. the u.s. navy is heading toward the mediterranean to pick up and destroy at sea assad's chemicals

weapon components even though officials confirmed assad delivered less than 5% of his stock pile and appears to be stalling. secretary of state john kerry at a defense conference in munich asked for the russians' help. >> together we need to all keep the pressure on the assad regime to stop making excuses and fulfill syria's promises and obligations and meet the u.n. deadlines. >> the syrian peace talks are supposed to resume february 10th in the u.s. so far the assad regime has not committed to sending a delegation. jennifer griffin live from d.c., thanks. a big blow to opponents of the keystone xl pipeline this week when a state department review finds no major environmental concerns with its construction. it has been five years and the project is still awaiting president obama's go ahead. does the new finding in this

report mean work can finally get started on the pipeline to bring oil to the u.s. from canada? let's ask peter doocy live in washington with the latest on this. >> it is ultimately going to be up to president owe bammo to decide whether or not to build the keystone xl pipeline which would transport 830,000 barrels of crude oil a day out of canada and montana. the state department's environmental study found building this pipeline is not going to harm the environment any more than if it's not built. they say that oil is going to be transported out one way or the other, maybe even by trains and trucks. >> this is one pipeline project. canada is certainly not going to be leaving their greatest valued resource in the ground. >> so far the white house won't say when president obama plans to give the project a thumb's up or a thumb's down. >> these issues are complex.

they require a rigorous approach and assessments that are being undertaken by the state that is what it is. >> but the president is now being pressured by some democrats like senator barbara boxer from california who says this, "my biggest concerns continue to be the serious health impacts on communities and the dangerous carbon pollution that comes from tar sands oil." then the other side, louisiana democratic senator mary landrieu who says "i urge the administration to act swiftly and give final approval so we can put people to work in these good-paying jobs." republicans overwhelmingly support the construction of the keystone xl pipeline. they say it will create thousands of construction jobs and the canadian ambassador to the u.s. said yesterday he

former democratic congressional committee spokesman. great to have both of you. doug, is there anything different about the president's call for congress to work with him on his agenda this time in this state of the union address than previously, besides the fact he says if you won't work with me or agree with me, i will use my executive powers to push through parts of my agenda? >> okay. it's the first of the month. i'm going to be optimistic here. i thought the tone of the president's speak was optimistic. i thought it was bipartisan. he recognized the work of republicans and democrats passing a budget. how for us to make progress we need to do this together. he gave a good shout out to john boehner. there are a lot of things in there that were reaching out to republicans. recently he talked about paul ryan's work on immigration reform. i think that the tone is different. the question is whether the politics are different. it's a mid-term election year.

can republicans and democrats put down their knives for six months and work together on jobs? immigration reform looks like it's picking up steam in the house. that's a good sign. a tax reform is another thing the president mentioned republicans would want to work with him. i'm a little optimistic. my brain tells me it's a mid-term year. this is do for example to be really difficult. >> i hate to ask you what happens to you on the 5th of the month. let me ask you, angela, did you hear anything different about the president's call to work together, and how optimistic are you and on what issues for bipartisanship with the house? >> i didn't hear anything different except for executive order has been a part of a part of the presidential office before president obama and will be after. i never heard a president threaten to use executive order in front of the american people and threaten congress, if you don't come my way i will use the power of the pen. that was not a kumbaya moment.

>> why? >> to do that threat, that veiled threat to say in essence if you don't come with me then i'm going to use the power of the pen. that is not a statesman. that is not showing leadership. if he stayed on the same realm talking about paul ryan and patty murray and the budget process talking about how democrats and republicans can work together and not use executive order, the speech would have been better for me. >> if i could add to what angela said. i think what the president is saying is look, congress is dysfunctional. that is not something i'm saying or angela is saying. that is what most people believe. approval rating for congress is 17%. what i think he is saying he doesn't want progress in this country to be completely dependent on this dysfunctional congress. yes, there are a lot of areas where the president wants to work with congress. they should work together. there are other areas that because of the power of the presidency, he could do on his own. that is not just executive

orders. he talked about yesterday reaching out to business leaders and having them come in and do something about the long-term unemployed. there is a lot the president's office can do, whether it's through executive order or through outreach to business leaders or community leaders that the president laid out for the american people. i think he has every right to do that. >> but doug, he has every right to reach out. advocacy is a great thing. the president was a community organizer. he knows advocacy. motivational speeches are great. the only thing that can create a better america is legislation. this. has said in certain instances he will not negotiate. that is not being a statesman. let me finish, please. not only has congress' approval rating down, barack obama's approval rating is down, as well. both of them need to work together. in this town, self-preservation is the first law of nature. >> interesting point. can i ask you each, i have 30 seconds left.

15 each. doug, who has more at stake in terms of actually achieving bipartisanship when you look at the mid-term elections next year, democrats or republicans? >> i think republicans do if they want to win back the senate if they want to protect the house. there is a lot, more at stake for them. the president's been re-elected. the house was one of the least productive houses in recent history. >> so was the senate. >> who has more at stake? >> the president has more at stake for his legacy. he has been re-elected, but he is going to need both houses of congress to pass certain laws and get certain funding. i think the president has a lot to lose here. jamie, if things stay on this path, you are going to see a republican house and republican senate. >> great to have both of you, very interesting discussion today. doug thornell and my girl, thank you. take care, angela. judge, thank you. turning overseas where two

senior members of the obama administration are making a rare joint appearance. secretary of state john kerry, defense secretary chuck hagel discussing america's security challenges at a conference in munich. one other major issue on the agenda, the ongoing search for peace between israelis and the palestinians. connor powell joins us live from jerusalem with more details. >> secretary of state john kerry arrived in munich germany saying he is still optimistic that a peace agreement between israel and the palestinians is still possible some time in the next few weeks or so. secretary kerry has shuttled between jerusalem and washington the last nine months trying to craft an agreement. u.s. officials say any agreement would address the core issues that plagued past negotiations, including borders, security, refugees and jewish settlements. after months of talks, the israelis and palestinians remain far apart. the biggest issues are the

borders of a potential palestinian state and its impact on the security of israel. also the future of israeli settlements in the current palestinian territories. while kerry remains optimistic, he is warned that the status quo is not an option. failure to reach an agreement could lead to an international boycott in israel. both israeli and palestinian publics overwhelmingly support a two-state agreement. politics on both sides failed to come together after decades of trying to reach agreement. here in israel, the politico licious led by prime minister benjamin netanyahu which includes parties that are against a two state has shown signs of strain here. prime minister netanyahu vowed to continue to work with the u.s. and secretary kerry to reach an agreement. it cost him dearly here in the politico coalition he formed

unprecedented measures to keep everyone safe at super bowl xlviii in new jersey. it is being called the biggest bank robbery in recent colorado history. the fbi has gotten involved searching for what they are calling the trash talk bandits. saying that these two crooks are armed and very dangerous. what about this trash talking though? dominick has our newsroom. >> track talking two reasons. the abusive and violent language they used against the 40 or so staff and cust pers inside the wells fargo branch in the northern parts of denver. this taking place on the 22nd of january. now the fbi releasing video looking for these two individuals. they don't know whether they are two men or whether it's perhaps a man and a woman. from the surveillance footage,

nfl who also invest their time, talent and treasure to help people off the field. buffalo bills' linebacker arthur moats is the recipient of the waller peyton man of the year award for invaluable service to the community and worldwide spokesperson for the united way. he joins us to discuss how he is helping others live their life beyond the dream and help them achieve. good to have you with us today. >> appreciate you having me on. >> i'm honored. tell me what you're doing for united way. >> what we are doing is the united way team nfl playoff challenge. the goal is to raise volunteerism and get mentors to help with individuals in school getting them to want to read more. just build that foundation as far as the educational base goes. throughout the playoffs, we've been, we had the top 12 individuals from the various nfl teams who have been raising awareness.

what we are going to do each week, we had cut-off where this many people have been eliminated from the competition. we are down to the final two. it's me versus cliff avril of the seattle seahawks. the winner will receive $10,000 to go to our respective united way. from that aspect of it, it's huge. think how many lives are being touched by people signing up to volunteer. over the five week period of the playoffs, we had over 10,000 new additions to volunteering. if you think over how many lives those individuals are going to touch, it's a huge impact. it's going to go numerous ways. >> beyond the dream is a series about ordinary people accomplishing ordinary things. because of faith, tenacity, perseverance. >> very true. >> what kept you grounded and motivated to achieve your dream? >> i have a strong support base. with my wife chandra. her support off the field and my

career. then my family, as well. my parents have always been big on focusing on my academics and helping people out. both were pastors. i have my brothers and sisters. they were supportive and keep me grounded. you're here for a reason. don't just get there and settle on that. when you're here, make sure you do what you can to help out in the community to share that blessing you have. >> you're all about paying it forward. you help a lot of children in terms of seeing if they need to value an education. which is something you've done. >> absolutely. i've seen what a difference education can make. i've seen first hand just through stories i had dealing with individuals throughout the community how, okay, before i met them they were on the wrong path. they didn't want to go to school. attendance was low. you talk to them and take them under your wings. hey, look, man, i understand you like football. academics is going to take you much further. you can use football as that tool. football can get you that scholarship when so you go to college you can get that education at some of the top institutions in the world.

wilt take you further. just seeing that first hand is a wonderful feeling. >> that's invaluable. kids watching right now or the adults watching can see the value in your own personal life as how education helped you. you went to james madison university. >> go dukes. >> and let's be honest. not too many pro players are present james madison university. >> true. >> there is this exceptionalism. what was the driving or motivating force that kept you pursuing your dream? >> i think the biggest thing was proving the doubters wrong. when you come out of high school, you have to go to a big d-1 school to be recognized in the nfl. i want to go where i can get a good education or i'm going to thrive throughout the academics and also on the field performing. i decided to go to james madison. it was a great school for me. from there it was saying, i have this potential on the field. everyone is noticing me. now they are saying you're not going to last long in the nfl

because you're from a small school. i'm four years in the nfl still going. from that aspect, i want to prove people wrong and prove not only can you pick a different route, you don't have to go necessarily just for sports. choose academics, as well, and still have success. >> wrap this up for me. what do you want to say to the child struggling right now with an education, perhaps they have a negative home life or negative environment, can they still achieve the dream? >> success is out there. that's the beautiful thing about america. success is there for the taking. the biggest thing is this. education is going to be their driving force. if you're in high school or middle school and you are considering, i don't want to go to school, don't want to do this homework. realize this, you can be the ceo of any place -- think about president obama. he came from a single-parent household. you see what education did for him. from that aspect, why not go to school and get good grades? >> arthur moats, you are not only a player but a gentleman and scholar. >> appreciate that, man. >> you're also from an area i

if you take the time to read labels, all the nutritional information on the back of food packages, you may notice it's about to get a major makeover. the fda announced the old labels are outdated, difficult to understand -- that's an understatement. do you think the labels on foods right now are ineffective? >> i think they are and i think it's about time we start changing these labels. 20 years is a long time, jamie. we've come a long way. our knowledge of diet and nutrition has changed. we know about healthy food.

years ago everything was about fat. don't eat fat. we switched everything to fat-free. but a lot of these companies started to put sugar in there. you have high fructose corn syrup. now the fda is zooming in on this saying let's change the labels. they want to bring them to the front. that is a nice one. instead of grams. nobody understands what the amount of grams is in this country, switch to calories, pounds, something we can understand. serving size. amount of calories, sugar and amount of wheat you have. these are helpful stuff. is it going to revolutionize the way we are going to eat? my simple answer is no. i think obesity in this country is the behavioral problem. we need to change that. i have some ideas i would be happy to share with you. >> go ahead. during the break we talked about something that makes a lot of sense to me because you look at these and it is very difficult

to understand these labels. >> absolutely. mass general came up with a great study where they are color coding the packages. you have red, yellow green. they are going to study all these calories and things and color code it. you walk into aisle 5. you see some green, some yellow, some red. just imagine somebody who is really obese looks like they have diabetes and high blood pressure, comes to the cash machine with a package full of red stuff. it's not going to go well. everybody will stare at him. over time their behavior changes. it's easy to see which one is good for you, which one is not. the results speak for itself. rereduce 20% of the red diet, increase green by 12% in a short period. i love it. >> that can make a true difference. you're not saying it for embarrassing somebody for buying the wrong thing. that is a good way to work. they've a i done the work we have to do the proper selection.
