hearings on this. these types of things keep on surfacing, in part because you and your tv station will promote them. >> and president obama didn't just take a swipe at fox news, he also refused to give an answer about what happened the night the four americans were killed during the benghazi terrorest attack. >> did he tell you, secretary panetta, that there was a terrorist attack? >> he told me there was an attack on the compound. what folks are focusing on -- >> did he tell you it was a terror attack? >> bill, i'm answering your question. what he said was we have an attack on the compound. we don't know yet who's doing it. understand when somebody's attacking our compound, that's an act of terror. >> and our good friend from the

five, bob beckel am i thought this was a really good interview. it's very difficult to interview a president. you've got to respect the office. you can't let the president run out the clock. and i thought bill was really able to strike that balance. so stylistically i liked how he did the interview. >> it was a good interview on his part. the thing that amazes me, is that one, obama agreed to do it. like agrooeing it do it with you, that's the last thing. the other thing is, i'm not so sure people want to hear about politics and all that stuff just before they watch the biggest game of the year. >> what do you think he's supposed to say? who do you think's going to win? what do you think about this? he's never answered these questions. and he was irritated by having to be asked them. >> you're still irritated. he made a good point. there's been 10, 20, 30, 50 hearings by the congress, and they haven't come up with

anything. >> on benghazi, here's what i'd like to know. before ambassador stevens asked for extra security, it wasn't given. we now know that his military people were calling it a terrorist attack. and we have footage that showing there was no spontaneous protest. this was a terror attack, but they told the country something different and they did it before an election. that, to me, is deceitful. >> i have said it was politics played a big role in how he dealt with this. there's that and our producer on the five calls it an epic scandal. itn epic scandal. if congress can't find a smoking gun here, i think they need to move on. >> why didn't they give the support, why didn't they give the ambassador the security he asked for before it happened? and i see lie and cover up on a lot of these fronts. if a president lies, should that

matter to you, even though you support him politically? >> i'm not the tadalai lama. >> let me give you an example. they first blame the irs on rogue agents. they were deposed. and they went up to the hill, and they said, no. we were being directed from washington. that's a direct lie, isn't it? >> i think it was probably a way to try to push it outside of the main political arena, but look, i also said this before. the irs scandal, that is a scandal when they target right wing groups -- i like the idea of right wing groups being targeted -- >> you don't like that. >> no, i don't, not like that. in all these things, have they dealt with it directly in a strand forward manner? no.

a lot of it's politics, but i think from their standpoint, their strategy is to move on. >> their strategy is, but i think the american people need to know, look, more americans do not believe that the president is honest and trustworthy. i thought this was a really good exchange. was the president telling the american people the truth on the issue of health care. this was at the very beginning of the interview. watch this. >> was it the biggest mistake of your presidency to tell the nation over and over if you like your insurance can you keep your insurance. >> oh, bill, you have a long list of my mistakes. >> wasn't that the biggest one? >> this is one that i regret, and i've said i regretted in part because we put in a grandfather clause in the original law saying that in fact you were supposed to be able to keep it. >> it's in the past, but isn't that the biggest mistake? >> bill, as i said -- >> you gave your enemies a lot of fodder for it. >> you were very generous saying i looked pretty good considering i've been in the presidency for five years. i try to focus not on the

fumbles but on the next play. >> i want you to give a long, thoughtful answer, it was described that the white house was internally debating whether they should tell the people the truth, if you like your doctor you keep it. they made the political decision not to do it. is that a lie? >> it is a -- let me put it this way. did i think obama believed that there was more to the grandfather clause than in fact turned out to be? i think he did. i don't think he expected all the insurance policies to change it. therefore taking it out of grandfather clause. somebody dropped the ball here politically, because they had to know that there were going to be a lot of these policies canceled, why somebody didn't go up to him and say stop using that line. you can't get away with these

kinds of things. >> here's the pattern that i cement it wasn't rogue agents in cincinnati. we were told something else. this was not a spontaneous attack caused by a youtube video. and they knew in july of 2010 that a lot of people would lose their health care -- millions -- but they didn't tell us. that, to me, is a pattern of deception and lies that i don't think i've seen in my lifetime from the presidency. >> well, as old as you are, you are old enough to remember richard nixon. i don't think this compares to that. but all these are fraught with bad decisions, bad political decision, yes. and he's paid a price for it. look, his poll numbers are very, very low. this did not come without a price for obama. and i think, frankly, the people around him failed him as much as he may have failed the american people. >> the president seems to me to almost be above being asked any

questions. very thin-skinned. and why does fox news bother him so much? >> oh, man. i've been down there and listened. i can tell you. i barely, i don't think i can get an invitation. the liberal democrat politics for 35 years, there's a really strong dislike. and i would say that you, my friend, are right there on the top of the list. when glen beck was here he was number one. then when beck left, you entitled the crown. so congratulations, you're the most detested person. >> next year when you get invited to the christmas party will you take me as your guest? >> i'll take you as my date. you'll have to wear a disguise. i love you, but they don't love you. and later, the one, the only, broadway joe namath is
