& friends first". winter is still here reminding us. >> it is now 59 minutes after the hour. one minute until the top of the hour. we begin with an extreme weather alert. one storm down two more to go parts of the midwest and northeast getting slammed with heavy snow. >> in new york and new jersey nearly 2,000 flights were canceled stranding thousands of super bowl fans monday. big rigs, buses and cars all get stuck. >> hang on to the snow boots and your shovels. maria molina is tracking two more storms. >> you are right. we are talking two more storms. one of them is already underway across parts of the center of the country. that last storm system that moved through parts of the northeast produced more than 6 inches of snow across portions of new york city and sur p rounding areas and bicking up 8

inches of snow. from oklahoma to kansas early this morning. we have widespread winter storm warnings winter weather advisories and watches in effect into the plains and into the midwest. may be as much as 6-10 inches of snow. the snow will tense intensify a heads to the northeast. places like new england could pick up 15 inches of snow. it will be tricky along the new york city area and parts of long island. 5-10 inches of snow possibly. it will be tricky and a tough forecast because warmer air will be mixing in with that. we could be talking about significant ice accumulation. that will be something to track through out the rest of the day. the snow totals 6-10 across parts of the midwest. higher accumulations across northeastern pennsylvania up

>> good morning. welcome back to "fox & friends first". new breast cancer screening guidelines are being discussed. a study calling for mammogram screenings every two years for women ages 50 to 74. these guidelines were developed by the u.s. preventative services task force in 2009. in 2012 they found mammograms did little to catch deadly breast cancers before they spread. scientists say screening every two years is just as effective and will save the u.s. $4.3 billion a year in healthcare costs. hundreds of students at a north texas high school are sick with a mysterious stomach bug. in richardson texas students taking every precaution including getting the bug. this after 26 staff members and 239 students got sick on monday. last week was even worse. 600 out of the 2500 students on

u.s. this week. >> in new york and new jersey nearly 2,000 flights were canceled yesterday stranding thousands of super bowl fans. the roads not much better either. >> hi, good morning heather and ainsley. i want to show you some of the snowfall totals that happened yesterday across the northeast. parts of connecticut picked up over 9 inches of snow and across new jersey, parts of new york you are looking at totals exceeding 8 inches. across parts of the country oklahoma, kansas, already seeing the snow coming down. we had very widespread winter storm warnings in effect across the plains and into the midwest. this will be the area today and into tonight.

we could see snowfall accumulations 6-10 inches of snow. lobi locally a foot of snow. significant snowfall totals are also forecast out here in parts of southern new england could see up to 15 inches of snow. the heavy snow totals across the plains in the midwest very localized. kansas city and also portions of northern indiana and across the northeast. heavier snowfall totals like i mentioned up to 15 inches. around philadelphia it will be a tough forecast. we have relatively warmer temperatures that could mix in with the snow overnight. we could be seeing an ice concern with freezing rain and sleet mixing in with the snow. right now the winter storm warning for parts of the tri-state area does call for 4-8 inches of snow and up to a tenth of an inch of ice. very significant stuff. please be careful on the roadway

reported it isn't working. the white house is trying to minimize the problem. >> the millions who have applied for coverage is only around 22,000 asked for help by filing an appeal and we are going to get them help. we are talking here about a very small percentage of the number of people who have applied for coverage. we believe that many of the issues that cause people to file appeals are leftover from when the web site was not working well and many of those problems have since ben fen fixed. >> have they, though. the post reports those problems, those appeals are simply sitting in a government data base untouched. some of the people who are being over charged say they have to continue paying the higher premiums because they don't want the coverage to last. the people responsible for administering the web site says maybe the best thing to do is return to the web site and start the whole process over again. >> that's great.
