political operative hillary clinton is. >> it shows the public face and private face. specifically what we saw during hillary care, she was the face of bill clinton's health rollout which ended up being a huge debacle for the clinton administration. but in personal accounts in conversations with bill and hillary at dinner this is one of the accounts that came out during these meetings. quote -- at dinner, hillary to bill said this -- at length on the complex ities of health care, thinks that managed competition is a crock. single-payer necessary, maybe add to medicare. what we were hearing publicly completely different than what was being discussed by the clintons at dinner about what they could do and get through congress. >> there was denial post this memo that there was no intention ever to go to single-payer. she also indicated about her personal feelings, as you know, clayton, behind the curtain what did she feel. she said she went back, talking about monica

saying why is he bringing that up. when byron york puts that in perspective, if you're going to take a full picture of somebody who never left the spotlight, you can go back there. hillary clinton as first lady was a bystander when it came to bill clinton. >> sort of. the comments are alluding to the fact that it wasn't so much what difference does it make but whatever it takes to get these women out of the way. >> we'll have more of these accounts and these letters and correspondence a little bit later in the show but let's turn our attention to the naacp. we were talking about a protest they had this weekend down there in north carolina when they asked for protesters to show up bringing their voter i.d. cards. but they were there to protest north carolina's antivoter i.d. law. >> this crazy notion that you have to have i.d. before you vote so we know who you are.

she died of natural causes in her home in california late last night. she was surrounded by her family at the time. temple began her career at just three years old and she became one of the most famous child stars of all time. she went on eventually to serve as u.s. ambassador to ghana and also czechoslovakia. shirley temple was 85 years old. brand-new surveillance video showing the moment al libby was grabbed. a white car cuts off to the right. delta forces pull out. al libby then pulled into the van. this entire thing happened in libya and taken 60 seconds. al libi is suspected of the bombings in kenya and tanzania in 1998. he is awaiting trial in new york right now.

it might be the dirty little secret hidden in obamacare. able-bodied americans get covered while those with disabilities move to the back of the line. mallory factor is author of "shadow bosses"here with the reaction. how do those disabled go to the back of the line? >> real easy. there's over half a million seniors and people who are disabled that can't even get home care and are going to be forced into residential units because they're put at the back of the line. and five out of six of the people who will be getting these benefits under obamacare are going to be -- are people who should be in the workforce. we're discouraging over 2.3

million people from working with obamacare. we're going to take 2.3 million people out of the workforce. >> right. so you have somebody who is not able-bodied, and essentially the way it is set up right now, they just go flying into medicare? >> that is correct. they go flying into medicaid. it is amazing how the disabled get pushed aside and able-bodied adults, they're getting benefits. people don't want to work. >> if they are working and they get the subsidies, that's why it's built as we expand the number of people without insurance, we actually have 30 million without insurance now are going to be eligible to get insurance so they're going to get subsidies for the job they have. but for those who are not able-bodied, where do they go? >> they go to the back of the line. this is really interesting in that what you're looking at is a president who talks about equality. it's really causing inequality. it is taking people who would be climbing up that

ladder to success and really discouraging them. what obamacare does is discourages people from working that have lower incomes. >> you could argue that one of the great things about obamacare, one of the things, supposed to give people with preexisting conditions insurance and those who aren't able-bodied, give them a safety net to give them the services they need. essentially they're just going to be subjected to expanding of medicaid. >> i couldn't argue that, brian. maybe you could. but that is really not the case. it's the opposite. people who are disabled, people who really need that safety net are actually being pushed to the back of the line. half a million of them are ahead of five out of six people who are being pushed to the front of the line that are able-bodied. by the way, fox news has done a great job of this whole thing. i think we should change our slogan from "fair and balanced" to"i told you so." >> i think there's a lot of people out there who who didn't

know what was in the plan and now are finding out what is in the plan. we found out more delays in 2016. now states, for example, like new york are going to get their chunk of money for the next few years because they signed up for the exchanges. what happens when that money dries up? these are the states that have expanded medicaid and the supreme court said you do not have to take that additional money. new york now has the money. but when that money dries up, there will be no money for them. >> even worse than that, what's going to be happening, again, we're taking people out of the workforce, disincentivizing them to work and we're going to have to pay more and more for them for health care swell -- as well as other benefits. this is coming from those hard workers, that middle class. >> but you're going to be able to spend more time with your families and be

drinks have gone up, sales of them by 60%. it is a $12 # billion industry. we see more teenagers are getting involved in this. in this particular study they looked at 20,000 teenagers, 8th graders, 10th and 12th. they found out boys in 8th grade from single family households are using a lot of these. it is a way to go into alcohol, into smoking and is really not good for us. we're seeing about 21,000 emergency room visits as a result of these energy drinks and we've got to make sure parents are aware of this. >> that chart we looked at there, it said consumption was higher among eighth graders, boys, from single-parent household and households where parents have a lower level of education. >> it is out there. it is a quick fix, high energy, they're getting tons of caffeine. these are not f.d.a. regulated so you can get all different types of caffeine.

written by surviving security team members, is scheduled to be published this spring. a writer and producer have already been selected by the studio. elisabeth? >> thanks, clayton. congress under fire for not extending long-term unemployment benefits, a move democrats claimed would hurt the economy. but north carolina, the governor there making a bold choice in july to limit job benefits, offering just 20 weeks, down from 73. in that time -- check this out -- their unemployment rate went from 8.9% to 6.9%. so is this the answer? joining me now is the governor of north carolina, republican pat mccrory. thank you for being with us. seems to be a solution that your state has found. is it? >> i believe it's one of many solutions. in fact, when i came into office last january 5 of last year, we owed the federal government $2.5 billion for unemployment compensation. our businesses owed the federal government that

much money and our unemployment rate was the fifth highest in the nation. in addition, i had many employers telling me they had open jobs but people were not taking those jobs. so we decided to try something different as opposed to trying strategy that was making north carolina one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. and we decided to reduceour unet compensation equal to what south carolina, tennessee and virginia were paying, and we also agreed to not extend unemployment further. and since that point in time, especially during the last three to four months, we've had the largest drop in unemployment rate in the country, from 9.4% to 6.9%. and employers are telling me had a people are taking jobs now that are available. >> what you're saying then is a complete antithesis from those we were hearing on the left who said no, if you cut those benefits, people are not going to go out and find work. you have found otherwise in your state? >> that is correct.

a lot of times people hold on until they find the job they want or they dreamed of. and we've all wanted to do that, but we've also at times in our lives taken jobs that were not the perfect jobs and jobs we don't want because we need to put food on the plate and pay our rent and pate our mortgages. i think that's what people are doing at this point in time, which means they at least get their foot in the door as opposed to being on government benefits while at the same time reducing debt that businesses owe the federal government at this time which will free up more money for jobs in north carolina in the long term. >> governor, how do you respend to c.e.o. -- respond to critics that say 40,000 dropped out of the labor force, that it might not work? >> actually that's happening across the nation. north carolina is no different than that. our rate of dropping out of the workforce is a little lower, but there's no real answer as to why. part of that might be the demographics of the baby boomers getting older since the recession of 2008. but the one variable that

makes north carolina different than the rest of the nation is the decision we made on unemployment. since we made that decision, we've had the largest drop in unemployment. so the variable of other people dropping out of the workforce is true in all states and it has nothing to do with the unemployment compensation. >> let's talk about all states. there are some who say north carolina, worked for you. it is not going to work across the nation. it cannot work on a federal level. you say? >> i think there is a point in time where we need to change our strategy and encourage people to get into the private-sector jobs that are open. by the way, we also have a responsibility to ensure that they get the right skill set to move in these jobs because another problem we all have is there are certain jobs open where we can't find the qualified people applying for those jobs even with the high unemployment rate. we're all a part of the solution. unemployment compensation is just one of those regarding the decision we made here in north carolina. >> governor -- >> and i think we made the right decision.

it was not an easy decision but it was the right decision. >> proof seems to be in the numbers. has anyone from the government, white house, called you, capitol hill, and said this is working, what can we do on a national level? anyone got in touch with you? >> no. in fact when we made the decision we got pretty harsh criticism from the labor department and the labor secretary at the time, and we've had a lot of protests here too, kind of wisconsin-style protests. my goal was to lower the unemployment rate. being the fifth highest in the nation was unacceptable. now we're not even in the top 30. now i'm working on other things like a major storm about to hit north carolina today. we're doing the right thing at this point in time and that's getting people to fill jobs that are open. and that spurs the economy as opposed to the only -- we don't want the incentive of the economy to be federal money coming into our state. that is a short term stimulus that doesn't have long-term sustainability.

good morning. you broke this story. let me just start by saying why now are these documents being uncovered and finally being revealed? >> actually that's a good question. when i went down to arkansas a couple weeks ago, i honestly didn't expect to find too much in these archives because they had been opened in 2010 and had not been written about. so i assumed that maybe people went down and they didn't see anything there. so i was actually pretty surprised to find what we did find. >> certainly speaking of the account of her conversation with conversation, her good friend talking to her about monica lewinsky and the scandal that ensued in 1992. it said it was elapsed, but said to his credit, he, speaking of bill clinton, tried to break it off, tried to pull away. tried to manage someone who was clearly narcistic looney tune. it was beyond control. what was your reaction when you read that is this. >> i was surprised.

in the biography of hillary clinton reported on this conversation between hillary and diane and he had an interview with diane blair and she told him that she did not -- that hillary couldn't talk about monica, but she knew diane was thinking about her and that hillary had to think through a lot of things and she was going through a lot at that point. so i was surprised to read this account of the conversation where they did talk about monica and they -- hillary spoke about it candidly. >> blair's account also, there was a conversation with hillary about the press that goes back to 1993. quote, hillary said that the press has big egos and no brains and the white house is going to have to work them better. that her staff has figured it out and would be glad to teach bill's staff that there is still tension between them. what's your take on that? >> i think this is the current theme that you see, at least when i was going through the archives, this idea of -- these

adversary, outside adversaries against the clintons and the press was a big part of that. the clintons really saw all of the scandals of the white house years and even to the arkansas years as kind of the media-manufactured -- almost like an opposition thing. >> sure. do you think, having found this and having it out, moving into 2016 with hillary clinton being a front runner potentially in the race for the presidency, will this affect her, this sort of ruthless paint brush right now and picture of her, how relevant will these quotes be? >> i think this is a challenge that hillary will face if she does decide to run in 2016, which is dealing with a lot of these things from the past and one of the benefits of having such a long career in washington is that she can point to that as experience and that's a benefit for her as she runs.

patients get a deadly brain disease. now the hospital is apologizing, blaming improper sterilization of equipment. so far 18 patients have been exposed to a disease that is similar to mad cow disease and the patients have been warned. >> i am angry, very, very angry that something so little could cause me my life. >> the incubation rate of this disease can take years and years. so those exposed may not know they're infected for a very long time. the washington redskins playing offense in taking shots at those who are trying to change the team name. two members of congress joining that ongoing controversy and sent letters to the nfl urging the league to change the name. the team fired back at congress, release ago statement that reads in part, surely with all the issues congress has to work on such as the economy, war, jobs and health care, the senators must have more important things to do.

you think and those are your headlines. >> all right. 25 minutes now before the top of the hour. georgia officials preparing for another storm packed with ice and snow. >> already today nearly 400 flights in and out of atlanta have been canceled. >> georgia's governor declaring a state of emergency in 45 counties. maria is tracking this storm. more snow on the way, huh? >> yeah, that's right. another week, another storm system. right now we're tracking it across portions of the southeast where we have one batch of moisture moving through parts of mississippi, alabama, even into georgia and the carolinas early this morning. there are some areas that are going to be seeing light snowfall accumulations, but it's tonight into tomorrow morning. you're going to see a more significant punch develop here. we could be seeing as much as a half inch of ice accumulation in cities like atlanta and more than six inches of snow possible across interior parts of the care carolinas and northern portion of georgia. the higher elevations could see

impending storm, potential transit problems and ice build-up. and so my photographer was kind of behind me and i was walking over to this gentleman who fell down because i wanted to ask him if he was willing to do an interview on camera, do sound for us. he got up, kind of -- took a step forward, seemingly lost his balance, slipped or both, and then went face first onto the tracks. in between the rails there. just basically face planted. so at that point, i'm watching this happen. it was surreal. so i run over. i'm screaming, get up. at first, i thought he knocked himself out because i didn't see him move. he was a big guy, probably 6' 2, 260. so i'm thinking, do i have to jump down and try to get him up? then i see him kind of pushing himself up. i'm screaming come to me. come to my voice. get up, get up. >> was he responding? >> at that point he kind of was getting up. he was a little wobbly. i screamed, you have to come to me. get over here. so he came, kind of stumbling

over. i grabbed him by arm. at that point the other gentleman, gregory, who actually you see when my camera man turns around, he kind of looks over at me and then he runs to our aid and he grabs the other arm. but we're two skinny guys. so we're trying to pull this 250, 260-pound guy off the tracks onto the platform and we're struggling. so then two other guys i think jumped in and then that woman puts me it a bear hug and pulls me. >> three minutes made a world of difference, saved everybody's life, truly, because what happened? >> the train was running a little late. so if it would have been -- if it would have been on time, that would have been a disaster. so thank god, the one thing again that really strikes me is how many people jumped in, how many people were involved. doesn't matter your background or who you are or anything like that, everybody got involved. and that's really, i felt, that was my duty. never crossed my mind to just

supporter of obamacare from day one. what during that interview made you switch? >> i'm still a supporter. i'd like to see this work. i'm a cancer survivor, before this, i couldn't get health insurance or through my own company. but what i really reject is this notion that it's fixed and it's all working. it's not. we hear things about the back end not working, where people who go through healthcare.gov can't get their insurers to the insurance company because it's not connected properly. many of the states it's not working well. but they'll get some of that fixed. but consumers need choices. so you may want to go to healthcare.gov. you may want to do an exchange. but you should be able to go to a place like ehealth as well. >> americans want truth and be able to get through and get covered. but they also -- this web site needs a lot of help. did you offer help to the administration, kathleen sebelius? >> interestingly, we ran this web site for a year when the legislation was first passed and it was an information web site. then they selected someone else to actually do what's called the production site, where people

can buy. it hasn't worked real well. that aside, we've made some offers. but at this point, our business is one where we just interact with consumers. we're like the amazon.com of health insurance. that's a good way to think about us. what i really want is for lower income subside eligible consumers to be able to use us just the way they do the government site. today people who weren't subsidy eligible can use us or the government side. if you're subsidy eligible, you're relegated only to the government site. it's much like if you're low income, you can only ship a package through the postal service. if you're higher income, you can use fed-ex, ups or the government site. >> so you never saw the government as a competitor 'cause you don't accept subsidies, so you were willing to help to make the health care system work in this country and now you're looking at it and saying, i can no longer support this plan? >> i want this to work. i can't support the implementation of this part, especially in many of the states who won't allow a company like ours their residents to use us to get their subsidies.

it doesn't make sense. >> beyond just the web site structure, the critics said forget the web site, those will get up and running soon enough. it's the structure of obamacare itself that's the failure. it's trying to rely on young people to get these plans. you see all these advertise ams rolling on swaying young people to use it. isn't the structure of obamacare what's the problem? >> you make a great point. in fact, the 3 million people that the president's reference who have been enrolled so far, if you look at the numbers, in the low 20s in terms of percentage are between 18 and 34. you need a lot more than that. at my company, close to half the individuals who come to us are between that age group because they're used to doing this on-line. they want to do it in their hands with a phone. if they don't get these young people enrolled, what's going to happen is it will get mitigated by prices. prices will keep going up and up and up and the stuff becomes expensive and that's where the legislation really stumbles or fails. >> one of the companies brought

interviewing for and they're going to ask you. you got to be prepared. so you got to do your research. again, if you're going on a date and potentially are with a serial killer, you should be aware of that as well. >> yeah. what about first impressions, if you're on a date with that serial killer, how important are first impressions with the job and a date? >> if it's a serial killer date, you want to ask a loft questions, like, so, when was your last kill? seriously. you want to be responsive and look interested. you want to ask questions. you also want to ask questions of the person that is interviewing you. it's the same thing on a date. you want to be engaged. not to go on dates if you're one of those people that talks about themselves for the entire date. you may not get a second date. same advice for an interview. you may not get a follow-up if you go into the job interview and blather on. >> that could be the important part. the waiting game, follow-up. do you call? >> is the phone going to ring? oh, my goodness. yes. the same thing is, you want to wait a reasonable amount of time. but two weeks is too long to wait for a follow-up on a job

interview. i would say three to five days. we've all heard, i'll call you. if they say, we're going to reach out and don't, it's appropriate to reach back out to them and follow up with them. that's very important. you've got to be engaged in the job process. more so than dating. you got to be more aggressive in the job search. >> finally, the rejection. >> there is a couple things. it is a rejection if you don't get asked on a second date. same thing happens if you don't get called back for a second or third interview. it's emotionally difficult. that's something that nobody really likes to talk about in our society. but it is hard. it is a rejection. you've got to kind of do a little bit of a grieving process after that so you're prepared for the next interview. my grandfather always said, pick yourself up by the boot straps. same for dating. same for jobs. >> there is a lot of fish in the sea. >> you can have all this for your wife, by the way. >> thank you. >> i don't need it. there you go. cheers to getting a job. >> i'll fill this up during the commercial break. coming up on the show, thought you knew hillary clinton? think again. newly released papers paint a

this one involves the employer mandate, pushing it off to 2016 for some employers. until then, businesses with between 50 and 99 employees will not face fines for failing to provide insurance. larger companies only need to provide insurance for 70% of its workers until 2016. the white house saying they're trying to make the entire transition easier. then there is this, just in time for valentine's day, the white house teaming up with a group called young invincibles for national youth enrollment day. now they're using celebrities like adam levine to try to get young people to enroll in obamacare to pay for all the older folks. >> thank you very much. let's see if laura ingraham is convinced, if adam levine says it's good, is it good for you? >> i'm still trying to get over his opening of the beatles tribute show. >> i missed that. was it good? >> he needed a little harmony in the background. he's a talented musician, but i don't think he's a great fan

of -- >> you're not only a music critic, you're a political critic. i'm curious on your take of these hillary papers that were waiting there and waiting for a journalist to sink their teeth in. the washington free beacon decided to look at what was in this correspondence between hillary clinton and her close friend, going back to school days. and correspondence, diary entries and this one stood out to the washington free beacon and us. take a look at this. she says about monica lewinsky in 1998, hillary clinton said this, it was a lapse, but she says to his credit, he tried to break it off, tried to pull away. tried to manage someone who was clearly, referring to monica lewinsky -- a nare sis cystic looney tune. but it was beyond his control. what do you make of that? >> well, it doesn't really surprise me, to tell you the truth. hillary decided, she made a calculated decision after paula jones and all the other

dalliances that this was her life partner and i think for a lot of reasons, she wanted to stay with her husband. so it doesn't surprise me that she sided with him because she ultimately did side with him. and what is a little surprising, though, i think for people who view hillary as the iconic feminist trail blazer and many people do, in the end, she became the enabler of bill clinton who ultimately decided that it was more of the woman's problem. it was the other woman who was the problem in this. not the grown man who was the chief executive of our country and her ultimate boss who perhaps was exerting inordinate power over this lady during this, quote, relationship. that's the thing that feminists would look at and say -- if they're honest -- i guess they're not that feminist after all. >> when you suggested that hillary might be a step back for women than a step forward, she blames herself.

raiding my home on july 7 of 2012, conducting about a two-hour top to bottom search n which they found no firearms, but found an inert shotgun shell from an old hunt and some muzzle loader ammunition. >> what did they say to you at the time? did they put you in handcuffs? >> yes, they did. they put me and my then girlfriend in handcuffs. they herded all the children into a separate room. all five children into a separate room. wouldn't let us talk to them while they proceeded to essentially ransack the house. >> the government coming into your home. this is washington, d.c., of course, an area where you're not allowed to have these types of firearms. you recall, it seems a double standard. david gregory of nbc, when he held up on camera a 30 round magazine and he got let off

scott free, right? >> yes, he did. but i think because of the message and his story was that of an antigun message, i think they viewed him as a kindred spirit and therefore, let him off. i did not actually have any firearms in d.c i kept them outside the city in virginia, my sister's home. >> meanwhile, after the first hearing back in june, the government -- the judge gave the government until this past january, time enough to prove that they had a reasonable case against you from an unreasonable case that they raided your home. did they come up with a reasonable case? >> well, that's what we're continuing to go to court about. today will be the eighth court date that was set since my arrest at the end of august in 2012. i don't think it's going to be over today. i think we're going to hear more motions and take it from there.

an appreciation of our history, especially here in new york. >> that's right. and in her first novel "the traitor's wife," she spot lights a cunning wife of benedict arnold, the man behind america's infamous act of treason. joining us now is allison pataki herself. welcome and good morning. >> good morning. thank you. >> so certainly you kind of lived through history in terms of politics. it has to be the genesis there of your interest in writing about it. >> certainly. and as brian mentioned, just growing up in new york state and having such an interest in the history of where i grew up and just having benedict arnold be one of the many infamous residents of my hometown was what initially inspired me to look deeper. >> it's an historical novel. you used real event in history. for example, we need to know and learn by reading your book, the role of benedict arnold's wife in him being a traitor. >> right. it's historical fiction, but the fact behind the story is that he had a beautiful, intelligent, charming young wife who was a loyalist to the british. and so she facilitated an introduction to her former lover, the british spy john

andre, who then planned the whole thing with benedict arnold. so she was in many ways a critical figure not only in the sort of love triangle, but in this conspiracy to end the american revolution. >> really, the link to it all, and the story is told through -- this is where the fiction plays in -- in the voice of her maid. >> right. because benedict arnold and peggy arnold and george washington and all these fascinating figures that are populating the story, you kind of want to be a fly on the wall watching all this. so the reader gets to see it through this fictional observer. >> it's amazing is you have one of the same things i saw because we have these signs throughout new york thanks to people like your dad that say, this happened here, with george washington. this happened here in the civil war. when you looked up and you say the flight of arnold. >> exactly. there was benedict arnold, john andre, and peggy arnold. i thought, i never knew benedict arnold had this beautiful young wife. i certainly never knew she had the back story with this british spy. >> it's fascinating.

i love your natural curiousity when it came to your book, brian. you have the same thing. what's next for you? are you writing more? >> i'm writing more hochal fiction. i love telling the story of a period in history that everyone knows, but from the perspective of the woman who was there. >> the thing is, allison, as people should know, we don't have to go is that arnold says, i have an idea. we're going to lose anyway. i'm going to give away west point. pretend to put up a fight. after that, the hudson belongs to the british and the whole uprising will be over. i have a better idea. we'll have washington in west point, maybe give him away. >> yep. it would have been the end of the american revolution and it's a period of time that is so important that we know now and just understand everything that went into the fight for the american revolution. >> what does your dad think? >> he loves it. he's a history buff and so i learned from him my whole life. so it was nice to teach him something. >> did he want to get in there and make any edits? >> sure. you know fathers, they always think that whatever their kid is doing is great.
