a little heavy medal to start this morning. >> we begin with an extreme weather alert. today millions in the south prepare for a potentially catastrophic ice storm. >> snow already falling in some parts of georgia as utility crews fan out across that state. nearly 1600 flights in atlanta already canceled. >> this ice storm pushing through that state. >> alabama getting snow causing dozens of wrecks closing major highways. everyone urged to use caution if you have to go out. >> what do you need to know. >> good morning. anywhere from eastern texas to parts of new england we have winter weather advisories and warnings in effect here. in the new york city area we saw an upgrade from a watch to a

winter storm warning and the snow totals also increased. we are expecting 6-10 inches along the tri-state area. that's in the coastal areas. further inland you could see more snow. one of the greatest risk area is as across georgia and parts of the carolinas. this is where we have ice storm warnings in effect. a big concern out here locally there are some areas that could actually see over an inch of ice is that is major accumulation. northern georgia and south carolina we could be seeing as much as 6-12 inches.

third one for the toyota prius. toyota kau recalling nearly a million of them more than 170,000 here. a software glitch could damage trancisters which could cause warning lights to go on and off. no accidents have been reported. graco is recalling 3.7 million car seats because kids can get trapped by the buckle when they don't unlatch. this is a huge safety issue. the cozy klein, the comfort support among others. they were sold from 2009 through last year. there have been at least 80 complaints from parents struggling to get children out of the seats. in some cases they had to cut the straps. this recall might get bigger. another 8.1 million infant car seats may have the same problem.

what they are doing this time to prepare. good morning. >> good morning ainsley. the good news is the city is doing so much more. the state is doing so much more to prepare for this storm. the bad news is we are being hit by a 1-2 punch. it definitely hit us hard. i am standing outside it is very, very cold. you can see the ice coming down on my umbrella. it has been freezing rain for about 45 minutes to an hour this morning. we are told this is going to last for about 24-hours. we are going to get up to about an inch of rain. we have massive crews headed in our direction, power crews to help us get things going and get us back on our feet. it could be a week before some folks get power again and hundreds of thousands could loose power. ainsley? >> it could take a week i guess. better than a month. >> hackers may have found a way

to mass weapons through airport security. diane macedo joins us with this alarming story for any one who flies. >> they are warning security used for airport personnel could be used to help smugglers and terrorists. according to billy rios and terry mccore kel found the discovery after purchasing their own x-ray machine and analyzing the issues. it allows airport supervisors to super impose images of contra ban on the screen in order to test detainee's ability to stop that contra ban. if any one ever obtained access to the supervisor's work station that same capability would allow them to put harmless items on the screen to cover up contra
