"fox & friends" right now. >> hi. this is sarah palin. you're watching "fox & friends." >> good morning everyone. we're going to get right to that extreme weather alert. look at that image. we just saw that a couple week ago. crippling storm pummeling half the country right now. the storm that hit the south making its way up the east coast and this may be the biggest winter blast of the season yet. >> certainly the longest. we have live coverage. it is team coverage. maria molina is playing her role. she is tracking the storm here in new york city. first let's go live in atlanta where tens of thousands of people are waking up without power.

jonathan? >> reporter: the electric company working overtime. state officials are urging people to stay off the road again. here's why. the storm has started up again. it is getting herrier as we go into the -- it is getting heavier as we go into the morning. dangerous driving in the southeast but georgia managed to keep its roads clear, people heeding the warning to stay off the roads. but there were problems in north carolina. in raleigh weather conditions deteriorating as people were trying to leave work at the same time. many cars became stranded on the highways. a big concern remains power outages throughout the southeast region. georgia power says it has already restored electricity to more than 230,000 homes and businesses over of the past 24 hours but apparently 210,000 customers remain without electricity statewide. airlines expected to return to normal schedules over

the next couple days. according to flightaware.com nearly 40,000 flights canceled nationwide today. this impacts flights in and out of atlanta, more than half of the flights in and out of raleigh tkaour ram canceled and at douglas international airports more than a third of flights have been affected. that is the southeast. now we're going to toss it to maria. >> some of these snowfall totals across parts of the east coast and so many states impacted. irwin, tennessee picked up half a foot of snow and some of these totals are from last night. we could see them updated and are expecting these numbers to climb. in virginia, nine inches of snow already, eight inches in parts of south carolina. that is just snow. we're not talking ice accumulations. we're expecting ice to be as high as an inch, probably higher across parts of east central georgia.

that state hit hard by ice. that is the story across sections of south carolina. the storm system widespread. we have snow coming down across atlanta and also snow in new york city. very widespread and expecting snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour across areas like northern v.a. into parts of new york. the storm is tracking so close to the coast we are expecting a mix across cities like philadelphia, new york. so you're actually going to be seeing that snow transition to sleet, freeze rain and then eventually to all rain before it becomes snow again as it wraps back -- that cold air wraps back around. otherwise the snow exits by later friday off of new england and another clipper coming up for the weekend. we'll keep you updated throughout the morning. let's head back inside. >> maria, did you say another storm coming up over the weekend? >> i have it on the graphic. this is 6:00 p.m. saturday,

another clipper swings through the northeast. it is not going to be as bad as the storm we're dealing with right now. but more snow on top of more snow. it's been such a tough winter and we already have a surplus of snow across the northeast and it doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon. >> just when you think you've recovered from one storm, another one hits. >> and they call them clippers to trick us. >> heather, what else do we have going on? >> good morning. it sounds more like a hammer. got some other news to bring you. while you were sleeping, afghanistan freeing 65 dangerous taliban detainees despite repeated warnings from the united states. president hamid karzai ordered the release insisting there was not enough evidence to prosecute them. the prisoners reportedly laughing and smiling as they boarded a bus to leave that prison. also happening overnight, several people are hurt, at least three homes leveled after a massive gas line explodes in kentucky.

take a look at this photo. it was actually taken from 20 miles away and shows how big this explosion was. parts of the town of nicely have been evacuated. we'll keep you updated. terrifying video out of florida. thrill seekers trapped 60 feet above the ground on a busch gardens roller coaster. this ride coming to a halt during a thunderstorm yesterday in tampa bay. 16 people were stuck for more than an hour while that rain poured down there. fire fighters were eventually able to get everyone down safely. no word on what caused that ride to malfunction. the juice is on a hunger strike in prison. sources say o.j. simpson is suffering from severe depression and he has apparently said -- quote -- "i used to live my way and now i'm going to die my way." simpson is 66 years old and is serving time behind bars for kidnapping, assault and robbery charges. he is eligible for parole in three years -flt those are your headlines.

>> he still likes to make news, doesn't he? >> always. thank you for bringin that news. yesterday kathleen sebelius over at h.h.s., she actually was thrown a confetti party on a conference call that 3.3 million people enrolled in health care. but the question is should they only be throwing half of it? this is what she had to say and then we'll discuss. >> this afternoon, with the benefit of a full month of january data, we're able to paint a more holistic picture of enrollment today and it is very encouraging news. first we're seeing a healthy growth in enrollment. through the end of january nearly 3.3 million people signed up to get coverage for private insurance through the health insurance marketplace. >> she went on to say they have 3.3 million in the exchanges for a total of 4 million. they wanted 7 million by march. youth enrollment was 25%.

it was supposed to be between 38% and 39%. i think ultimately the numbers are not going to be as significant as what are the quality of the programs, are people able to get health insurance. what is your deductible? are you keeping your doctor? >> the word holistic was used, which means not taking one part here and another part here but considering all the information. we talked about this earlier where the amount that people have paid, the number of people who have paid out of that 3.3 million, you may have signed up but did you actually put a payment there? i signed up for soccer class for the kids and if you don't pay or have that confirmation, come game time there is no jersey. >> the numbers in terms of signup were mixed at best. you're right, brian, access and quality of care are going to be the key to obamacare. what we've seen is an astounding amount of people especially with cancer, are not having access to the

treatment they need. how is the federal government going to get the people on the rolls that they need? maybe by e-mail and maybe by kind of a program that even you could have an opportunity to meet the president. >> they're still searching for the young and healthy, 27% of those right now. they're looking for 40% to take the edge off premiums which could increase if they don't have the payers there. this is an e-mail from organizing for action from the administration's supporters here that went out and it said add your name. say you'll help spread the word about getting covered. there is a bonus. anyone who says they'll pitch in will be automatically entered for a chance to meet president obama back stage at an event in d.c. later this month. sounding like a concert of some sort. back stage pass, v.i.p. if you get your buddies to sign up and pay for this. >> you'll get ginsu knives as well and free shipping

nonchalent means you're not worried about yourself. i think everyone wants this to work, and the attitude coming out of it as we saw from joe biden, it depends on if you're taken care of or not at the moment. >> joe trippi is a fox news contributor. he says he's looking at what the president's numbers are now. he's looking at the obamacare rollout. he sees a problem. look. >> he is hurting the democratic brand right now. the obamacare snafu, all this stuff is hurting, and his approval rating is declining and his credibility problem all drag the democratic brand down. in a mid term election, the popularity of the sitting president has more to do with who's up and who's down regardless of what party that president is in.

a congressional hearing earlier this week, archbishop from the vatican testified about christians being attacked globally. >> flagrant and widespread persecution of christians rages in the middle east even as we meet. arab christians in small but significant communities find themselves the target of constant harassment for no reason other than their religious faith. >> why is the persecution of christians growing globally and where is the outrage? joining us, new jersey congressman chris smith who chaired that meeting. congressman, first off, why

now? >> it is getting worse increasingly. every year there has been almost like an exponential expression of hate happening worldwide. i have chaired hearings on virtually every country where that country has a problem, from china to vietnam to syria to the christians being persecuted in egypt. we're seeing radical islam coupled with places like in china and north korea and vietnam, communism which continues to hate god in general and hates christians in particular, and a group i've worked with for years especially during the worst days of the soviet union, brother andrew, for example, a great man who used to bring bibles into romania and russia, they say 100 million christians worldwide are subjected to harassment, arrests, torture, beatings and a sizable number of people are being martyred as we meet. >> i want to show you what pew research revealed in terms of persecution of

christians now. they say it spread to 110 countries internationally. in june of 2009 it was 96. in 2010, 111. in 2011, 105 and in 2012, 110. it is not going anywhere. what could we be doing here in the u.s.? could we be doing more? >> much more, brian. we have a duty to protect. it's everybody's business. first we need to pray for the suffering church and all people of faith who are suffering. jews, muslims who often are targeted. but the christians are singled out in the highest number and with horrible things like beheadings. the obama administration has been awol. i have to say that with absolute candor. we have a law called the international religious freedom act that was passed in 1998. it calls for an ambassador at large. that post for half of obama's presidency has been vacant.

things that can expedite security lines. >> it's january, 40,000 flights are canceled, four times the amount from the past two januarys, okay. tkwo -- do those alerts you get on your phone, is that something you suggest to get those so you're aware of what's happening? >> definitely. most airlines will let you know do you want your alerts flier text messages? it is a way to stay connected and know what's going on. >> there's all kinds of apps in terms of flight alert and twitter. kids, we've all traveled with our kids. tell us about traveling with kids. what do we need to be doing? making dinners? sandwiches? you say make it a game, the whole process. >> ultimately. that is the thing, it is a great opportunity to be able to spend some time with your family. it sounds bizarre but being able to download movies, camp out in the airport, watch the movies. do a marathon, do jumping jacks, find ways to make the experience enjoyable.

>> it's been snowing for the longest time. >> a lot of snow days. usually you get those extra days tacked into spring break. i don't think anyone is getting spring break extended this year. >> we've been trying to keep you posted on the storm. maria molina has been doing an exceptional job on that. what is the latest? >> we have updated snow totals. i want to show these right away to you because they are incredible. take a look at parts of virginia already picking up over a foot of snow very appropriately in snowville, virginia. in alabama, this is not a state that you typically think of a lot of snowfall. maybe a couple inches. look at cullman, alabama, they picked up 10 inches of snow. that is incredible. parts of north carolina seeing significant snowfall, up to 10 inches up there. in d.c., you have a little more than 4 inches of snow on the ground and it is still snowing across the suburbs. we're expecting a mix of freezing rain. sleet could get in as well

as a transition over to rain later this afternoon. here is a look at additional snow we are expecting. parts of northern virginia could still see another three to even six inches of snow. the high elevations could see more than that. a widespread 6 to 12 inches expected from parts of maryland up to the state of maine. interior sections of the northeast, that is where we could see over a foot of snow. 12 to 18 inches forecast. ice or morning snow expected in parts of georgia or north carolina. winter storm warnings in effect across the region. gusts up to 35 miles per hour. we have been seeing it picking up across the region. let's head back inside. >> one after another. the whole country has gone pink. >> or white. white outside, pink on the screen. >> if you're listening on the radio, it was pink on the screen. 26 minutes before the top of the hour. heather, what else is happening? >> pink is not for

for loss? >> what's at stake here is, it may sound extreme but it's the survival of the united auto workers union. it has shrunk dramatically. they need more dues. so they made a big push to unionize those nonunion plants owned by foreign car makers in right-to-work states. the focus now is on volkswagen and their plant in tennessee. the union is holding a vote, or there is a vote being held. do the 1,500 workers want the union? yes or no. that is the situation as it stands. >> u.a.w. failed in the past to do that, to get into these foreign manufacturers. what does this sound in terms of the economy, in terms of right to work, in terms of our ability in this country to manufacture in a way that's not too expensive? >> it's a very big issue. foreign car makers have 11

plants in more than a dozen states in america. they're nonunion, very successful automobile producers. if the union comes into volkswagen, do they now have union rules, work rules, which really hurt the ability of a car maker to move quickly with a new product. what about wage levels? what about benefits? do those always go up because of unionizeation? the vote's being hold now. there is a breaking new story, there is something new happening right now. senator bob corker, republican, tennessee, he holds a news conference in chattanooga a few hours ago, and he says he has it on good authority that if the workers reject the union, volkswagen will build the new mid sized s.u.v. at that plant in chattanooga, tennessee. the national labor relations board goes crazy and says you can't do that. you're sticking your nose in the middle of a free vote. you're taking sides.

corker responds by saying the u.a.w. has come down from detroit. they're outsiders, trying to organize this thing. i want my say too. this is a very big deal. and then last night the night shift, where they were going to be voting on this, canceled because of the snow. does this vote go through? will the union be accepted? what's the result of the snowstorm? it's kind of up in the air at the moment but this is a very big issue for the future of nonissue automobile making in america. >> we're going to watch your show at 9:20 but we need you to stick around because we have a special guest coming our way. do you have any idea who it is? >> i have been told. >> your favorite show. >> correct. >> "downtown abbey." >> it is not downtown abbey. it is downton abbey.

describe myself as fiercely pro-life, and obviously am in favor of virtually anything that prevents abortions. but this is an interesting example of the state providing a platform because the state owns the license plate -- you don't -- and limiting what you can say on the state's platform. for example, you put a bumper sticker on the bumper of your car. you can put anything you want there. choose choice, choose life. but if you're going to use something that the state is going to give you, that you are required to put on your plate, then the state has to enable you to put a contrary view on it as well. so the state, if it wants you to be able to choose these "choose life" license plates would have to give those who prefer not to choose life and not to announce that message the right to put what they want on their license plate. >> had north, had they denied the other side the chance, north carolina?

fire. other regions, ice forming on trees, weighing down limbs, causing them to fall on power limbs or other structures. about 210,000 georgia homes and businesses remain without power. in decatur, a tree fell on a house, injuring an 85-year-old woman inside. the woman was taken to a hospital, but she is expected to be okay. back to you. >> thank you very much. jonathan telling us what's happening down south. who else is prepared to tell us what's happening outside? >> maria molina is. she's live outside our new york city studios all morning and she's been watching the weather around the country as well. tell us what's going to be happening today. >> it is really picking up here across new york city area in terms of the snowfall rates and also the wind. we are going to be seeing those wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour across a widespread area in the northeast. we do have winter storm warnings in effect as well. take a look at some of these snowfall totals. parts of virginia already seeing

over a foot of snow. it's still snowing and we are still expecting several more inches of snow. otherwise in parts of alabama, ten inches of snow. north carolina also reporting significant totals out there. this is how much additional snow we are expecting. you can see widespread area, six to 12 inches from parts of virginia all the way to sections of new england. and there will be some areas in interior parts of the northeast that could see 12 to 18 inches of snow. coastal areas will see a little bit of a mix. we are going to see that transition rain at times. orangeburg in south carolina picked up an inch of ice. that is the story across widespread areas. so please be safe out there. i know residents are being urged to stay home. don't let outdoors. and -- don't head outdoors. this snow kind of heavy.

it was taken 20 miles away from that area where there was the explosion. it shows how big it was. local media reporting that the entire town has been evacuated. about 150 people live in that area. it is 90 miles south of louisville. terrifying video out of florida. thrill seekers trapped 60 feet above the ground on a roller coaster at bush garden. the ride coming to a stop in the middle of a thunderstorm in tampa bay. 16 people stuck for more than an hour while the rain poured down. firefighters eventually got them all down and no one was hurt. wouldn't want to be up there in a thunderstorm. this was a heartwarming surprise. a ymca in connecticut, look at this. >> daddy! >> that is sergeant t.j. husbandhorn and he surprises his five-year-old son after he was deployed to afghanistan for nearly a year.

rand paul announced a historic class action lawsuit against president obama and intelligence officials over the nsa program. ken cuccinelli is listed as head attorney on the case and partnered with freedom works, who is co- listed as plaintiffs there. this is what rand paul had to say regarding the president's spying program and the nsa. he said, look, this is not paul revere running around. it's different. >> the president, when he talked about privacy recently, he said oh, this is like paul revere in the history of paul revere, warning us. but if paul revere wasn't saying the americans are coming, he was saying the british were coming. it was about a foreign invasion. really i think he's got it wrong and the fact that he thinks that he can look at all of our records without a cause, without probable cause or suspicion, that's what warrants are based on. >> and in a lot of ways, a lot of americans think it's about invasion, invasion of privacy

and invasion of constitutional rights. there is a very telling set of fox news polls now that show the american people are not on board with some believe to be the president's power grab. so the first question that was asked was about executive orders to bypass congress. is this how government is supposed to work? 23% of respondents said yes. and a resounding 74% said no. no executive orders. don't be bypassing congress. >> and that's the president with those 27 changes to obamacare alone, he's doing that and also what he's doing with his pen, with the minimum wage. just really back to that point for a second, i understand this is a difficult point. a lot of people wrestle with this. but when dick cheney and george bush and michael hayden said, we need the nsa program expanded, republicans said yeah, that sounds good. when president obama says i like this program in place. let's continue to use it, a lot of people say, well, that's bad. what i'm trying to say is maybe

there might be some merit to the program. i give rand paul credit because he's standing up doing something that's not politically necessarily expedient for him. but it george bush looked at the intelligence and said we need to amp this and barak obama, two people who couldn't be more different politically say i need the nsa working in high gear, collecting the meta data, straining it through to keep us safe, there might be some merit to it. >> but using presidential power versus popularity of the program and whether people want that out of their government. >> if we tell everybody everything about the program, there is no sense having the problem. >> people say -- government is doing something to protect us, fine. but if they're doing it to invade our privacy in some fashion and it's not forgetting us, then we have problems. so i think that's why the lawsuit has been brought. >> the problem i think is agreed upon by all, that it exist, right? so we need protection. we want to feel safe. we certainly want people to have coverage and not be without.

i think where people tend to disagree is in the method. how is it being carried out? this other poll illustrates the issue that american people are having right now as well. new fox poll here says president obama using executive orders to go around congress. 60% disapprove. that says a lot just in terms of method. sure, we want to be able to have a program that helps everyone, but the how, going around our congress really sort of erasing what this country is based on in terms of law making is upsetting. at least 60% in that poll say that. >> and just napolitano, having hosted a radio show for years said a lot of people said i don't care. i agree with the president, so it doesn't bother me. you're not going to agree with the next president, so it's going to bother you. make a firm stand. are you comfortable with that. it's a trend which we have to address. >> it becomes a power grab

generally. a constitutional law professor, and in fact, voted for president obama, i believe, says this is an unprecedented authoritarian power grab that the president is involved with at this point. listen to what he had to say. >> i'm afraid this is beginning to border on occult persolity for people on the left. i happen to agree with many of president obama's policies, but in our system, there is often as important of what you do as how you do. i think many people will look back at this period in history and see nothing but confusion as to why people remained so silent when the president asserted these types of unilateral actions. you have a president who is claiming the right to basically rewrite or ignore or negate federal laws. that's a very dangerous thing. it has nothing to do with the policies. >> why is it so dangerous?

the chart that's gone viral on social media leading many to believe we're on the verge of a market meltdown. you have the red line, today's dow jones industrial average. the green line, that same average just before the great depression. they're almost the same. should investors be scared? should i be trembling? charles gasparino is here, senior correspondent for the "fox business" network. you saw this chart. are you nervous about this? >> i was on the show last week saying i think we were going to get a correction, which is down 10%. i think that would be really good for the markets. while i don't like this market because the fed is essentially keeping this market going and that's printing money, it's not really based on the fundamentals of companies. the macro economic factors are not the same. we don't have a banking crisis. we kind of had a banks crisis in 29. we don't have a tight monetary policy. the fed wasn't printing money in 29. it's printing a lot now. those sort of broad factors that would lead to a massive crash and a depression are not here.

that said, there needs to be a correction. there will be a correction. if i was the average person, i'd be really worried about this market 'cause every time the fed says it doesn't want to print money or may stop printing money, the dow goes down 200 points. >> when you say the word tapering, is that different? >> it's different because tapering is a slow, methodical -- that's not -- >> all we ever heard is tapering. >> every now and then you hear the fed say, well, maybe we should taper even more. if i'm an investor, you really want to buy companies which you know will do well over the future over a long-term and be a long-term investor and watch the thing go up methodically. what you don't want to do is play the market. you want to buy large index funds and the problem with this market right now, it's all dependent on one factor. not the companies, but the feds. >> right, which is different. if i get this straight, the lines were going up the same way, but going up for different reasons.

teachers and educators down the road are -- is it wrong to teach kids to reach out to everyone in the class with some kindness in a card when they're five? >> well, i think the idea behind it is good. i just think that there is a difference between valentine's day and birthdays. when you're celebrating a birthday, it's an inclusive, everyone participates. but for valentine's day, i mean, i don't have 8 million valentines. i have one special one, my husband. i don't give out cards to everyone. i give it to my girlfriends. my twins are in kindergarten, they don't even want to give them to icky boys. they want to give it to their girlfriends. if they had to bring in an impersonal one, it would completely ruin it. they wanted to decorate, from me to you, it's a memory. you destroy it when you make it this robotic, mechanized thing.

back. >> happy to have you here. this is really disturbing. grand theft auto has really violent, disturbing images, people getting maimed, killed, raped. now we hear in england, at least, that some of these kids, five, six years old, seven years old are acting it out. why are they doing it and what can we do as parents to insure that that doesn't occur? >> when i looked at this issue for my own research, there were a couple of things that stood out. the first thing is that you'll be surprised to know that there are many, many, many parents watching this program right now all over america who have no problem going out to these big box stores, like wal-mart, and purchasing games that are rated m for mature for their very, very young children because they think there is nothing wrong with it. but the reality is there is something wrong with it. we've done work for many years to show that kids will do what they see. so it's pretty simple. if a kid is playing a game or

someone is cursing or they're yelling, being aggressive, where they're engaging in sexualized behavior, they're going to act that out. and that's what we're seeing here. that's why people like me try to tell parents all the time, there is appropriate content for kids, like sesame street, and there is adult themed content, which is inappropriate for kids. >> absolutely. simulating rape and sexual intercourse for six-year-olds is absolutely inappropriate and there is a warning on this game and on others like it. some people are saying in our society, well, you know, this has happened before. other generations have faced similar problems. in fact, the head master of the school in england said this: we noticed it building up. it used to be when people watched tv shows, we probably did it ourselves with cowboys and indians. it became more concerning because this newest version of grand theft auto seems to be more shocking than the previous games. this is not like playing cowboys and indians, is it, professor? i mean, does that have the same

effect on you and me and other folks? this country as compared to watching the videos like this? >> absolutely not. when i was growing up, i would watch wrestling. wrestling on tv with my brothers and we'd wind up trying to act out the moves. but they weren't cursing. it wasn't sort of over the top. you weren't teaching people, for example, how to load a gun. you weren't teaching people how to beat autopsy prostitute. you weren't teaching kids how it simulate sexual acts and we weren't inundated. the problem is today, parents don't limit the amount of time that kids spend playing these games. for example, we now have all this snow, this bad weather, kids are home from school. guess what? they're going to allow their kids to play these games for hours. that's just wrong. what they're doing is they're learning these things when they play grimes for hours. >> professor, you bring a lot of scholarship. we'll see you back here on "fox & friends."

jonathan, what's happening? it doesn't seem quite as bad by you as it is by us. >> reporter: well, it's still snowing here. take a look at this. we're on 17th street. there is a light dusting of snow, but underneath a thick layer of ice. so driving is very treacherous. the good news is most people here in georgia are heeding the warnings to stay inside. so very few traffic problems to speak of here in georgia. but there were problems elsewhere in the southeast. take a look at this video from the raleigh-durham area of north carolina. weather conditions rapidly deteriorating yesterday afternoon as people were trying to get home from work, leaving many vehicles stranded on highways. power remains a major concern throughout the region. here in georgia, nearly 350,000 homes and businesses are without electricity as we speak. but crews have been working around the clock to restore electricity. coming back to our live shot, you see a handful of vehicles. by and large, people staying

home and state and local officials are advising people to continue doing just that, just for one more day. but things should start returning to normal on friday. back to you. >> we thank you for that update. maria, you are outside our new york city studios here. the worst storm, the worse part seems to be the rate of the snow? >> that's right. we have to be seeing snowfall coming down right now at a rate of about one to two inches per hour. i kind of want to have the cameraman just pan out to show the snow just coming down. we are seeing that wind also picking up. so the storm system really intensifying. i want to take you to the radar picture because like you heard, we do have snow still coming down across section of atlanta, across georgia. we also have it spread across parts of the carolinas. but the heaviest of it right now across parts of northern virginia. so that darker blue shading, northern virginia, parts of

western maryland, up into areas north of philadelphia and right across the new york city area, that's where that snow is really piling up right now. timing on the storm system, we do expect it to continue to intensify and head northward along coastal areas, especially right here in new york city, areas in boston. you are going to see a transition over to a wintery mix and possibly even some rain before a transition back to snow across the northeast. six to 12 inches of snow expected and then for the weekend on saturday, another quick moving clipper system, not a lot of snow with that system. but more snow. if you feel like you've seen too much snow in the northeast, look at this. this is snow so far this season. well above average, philly, new york city and boston. now back inside. >> maria, would you do me a favor? i cannot see you clearly? can you wipe the lens? because it looks as though it's a 1950s romantic comedy. >> the weather is making it foggy.

>> encouraging, we're not sure about that. well short of the 7 million they're set to hit as projected by their own team there by the end of march. at this point, they were to be at 4.4 million enrollees. they are now at 3.3. the word wholistic, certainly something to take a look at. is it wholistic if that number, it's not exactly clear how many people enrolled and paid. that's just the first part, enrolled. >> right. the numbers are increasing. the fulfillment, we don't know about. those are different numbers. but the web site is up and running better. karl rove had an interesting point yesterday. when people are trying to figure out why the president of the united states wanted to delay of game when it comes to the mandate for businesses between 50 and 99, because the estimation was that businesses would say, you're off. we're taking the $2,000 fine. you're done. and then you would have another thousands of people without insurance and that might be too much for democrats to overcome. >> absolutely would. >> it doesn't seem to be

the democratic brand down. in a midterm election, the popularity of the sitting president has more to do with who is up and who is down, regardless of what party that president is in and republicans have experienced this. they experienced it the last time around with george bush and the iraq war when it became unpopular. the same thing is happening to democrats now and obamacare is clearly a big piece of that. >> saying the republicans are so convinced after their mini summit, basically speaker boehner says, i'm not even going to get people get distracted. i'm going to raise the debt ceiling. we're going to fight for this after we win back the senate. i think that's how confident republicans are that it's going to pay off in the election because of obamacare in particular. but now it's time to grade the president. fox news poll graded the president first on the economy. >> you have what americans think. we heard what republicans think and what the democrats think. right here, when asked by fox news here, grading president obama on improving the economy, these are the grades that came in.

lion's share of the money. and their job basically -- they're the middle person. they're also the one, peter, that were involved in doing the loan modifications or involved in the short sales. they become, if you will, your voice if you wanted to try to get a loan mood or short sale, they're the people there for that also. that's where there has been a lot of problems on some of the things you talked about in opening our segment. >> these people sound really essential. so who are some of the top servicers in the country now? >> well, obviously have nation star. they're huge. they're out of texas. we have aqua, wells fargo. you've got pnc. you have green tree financial. here is the problem with them, peter. under the regulations, if you have servicer a and servicer a is going to transfer you to servicer b, there is guidelines that are followed that they have to give you the homeowner notice that hey, there is a new servicer on the block. and sometimes some of them comply and sometimes they

didn't. for example, when you had countrywide years ago, bank of america took over a lot of countrywide loans as servicer. then countrywide, after bank of america, they passd them on to greentree financial. so a lot of homeowners have been faced with this change of servicers and say, well, who am i supposed to send my check to? i sent the check here, they said i never got the payment. so there is a lot of these complaints that you referred to where there has been logistical issues inside the servicers themselves because they're handling so many accounts. >> the homeowner has got no role and no say in who the servicer is, right? >> that's a very good point. you and i basically are completely sub servient to whatever they decide to change. why do they change? well, they change because a lot of times these people don't want to have to handle the loans anymore. they don't want to deal with the loan modifications. they don't want to have to deal with it. so sometimes they just transfer them. sometimes these servicers buy the loans. it just depends on who you're dealing with and how it works. but again, you and i, the

that the national weather service right here in the new york city area is basically reporting that we are seeing snowfall rates of about two inches an hour. that's also for other surrounding areas across places like connecticut and even farther inland, across new jersey. we're also seeing visibility, less than a quarter of a mile. that's blizzard-like conditions out here. if you were to have that for three years and winds over 30 miles per hour, you could officially call it a blizzard. but that's the definition per the national weather service. here is a look at the snowfall totals. this was early this morning as of about 4:00 a.m. of the we already had over a foot of snow in portions of virginia. it is still snowing out there. so we do expect these totals to continue to climb. of course, we'll bring the latest to you as we continue to get it. you can look at the radar here. still snowing in parts of eastern tennessee, in western north carolina. a little freezing rain still falling across parts of south carolina. in orangeburg, south carolina,

we had an inch of ice reported earlier this morning. that could climb depending on any additional ice that's fallen. i want to show awe closer look at the radar picture. this is across western maryland. eastern pennsylvania, northern new jersey, into the new york city area. that band of darker shading of blue, that is where we do have that very heavy snow coming down of up to two inches per hour. some rain, some sleet, some freezing rain could mix in with the storm system. take a look at the future radar. by midnight tonight, still snowing across portion of maryland, new jersey, up into parts of new england and eventually by 9:00 a.m. on friday, the state of maine will be looking at areas of heavy snow and something we told you earlier this morning was that we were going to see another clipper system moving through. you can see 6:00 p.m. on saturday, not expecting that much snow from that system. sain area that's already snow fatigued. we're well above average in terms of the season in terms of

you may not know them yet, but they're already making their mark. we're talking about america's rising political stars and how they're shaping our nation's future. today's guest was born and raised in wisconsin. he's a speed runner, and former district attorney determined to make a difference in his home state when he's not keating in the lumber jack sports. talking about congressman sean duffy. welcome back. >> thanks for having me. >> first off, what makes you you, whenever anyone was swimming or playing sports, you were in the woods work the lumberjack sports. >> what we did growing up, instead of taking diving lessonses or swimming lessons, i would go down with all the kids and learn how it stand on a log and have this battle as a young kid. if you've seen it on espn or other networks, it's competition where two people are on a log

rolling. from there, i learned how to chop and saw and speed climb. it's all great skill of old-time lumberjacks. americana. >> i always thought that raw skill was a battle of the network stars. i had no idea that they had those games. you said you never thought you would get into politics. >> i grew up in a small town in northern wisconsin. i went off and did reality tv, met my wife, became a prosecutor. never thought to get involved in politics. i got in when my congressman wrote the stimulus bill, nearly trillion dollars stimulus package. i didn't think that was a great way to grow jobs or great economic growth. so i decided to run for congress and never thought i'd get here, but here i am, trying to make a difference. >> six kids later, rachel campos duffy is your wife and also an author. >> number 7 is on the way. i'm trying to be an overachiever on the kid front. >> so you have your hands full trying to be in wisconsin and washington, as well as trying to be a parent. you recognize those people.

that's you. how do you balance both? >> i think it's important to make sure you have your priorities in place. my kids and my family are a top priority for me. they're the ultimate priority. but if i care about their future and where -- what kind of country we'll leave for them, i have to partake in the greater fight of who we are going to be as a people and the kind of america they're being to inherit. i have a great seat at the table to make a huge difference in the country that they will get when they're my age. >> so having said that, it was just a clean -- there was a decision in the house to put up for a vote, raising the debt ceiling without anything attached. only 28 republicans voted for it. speaker boehner took the democratic votes. how do you feel about that? >> i didn't vote for it. i think if we're going to raise the debt limit, we have to reform the way spend. one of the problems that we have is democrats won't vote for a debt limit increase unless it's clean. and we don't have enough republicans by ourselves to reform the way we spend and raise the debt limit. we have 30, 40 members that

will flatly say no to raising the debt limit. even with our conservative packages, conservative budgets that balance the budget, for ten years you have to raise the debt limit. so listen, this is not getting the job done. we have to have more bipartisan buy in to figure out how we get our country to a point of balance. but we're on a pathway to a train wreck fiscally in this country. >> right. and this is a strategical move because republicans feel with the disastrous results of obamacare and the confusion everywhere that you feel as though the senate could be republicans and to not shut down the government and get blamed would blow that? >> i think we took a lot of heat during the shutdown that the president caused in october. the speaker didn't want to see us get in the way of a larger conversation about what's happening and with health care reform. i think what's happening now, when you have senators that make promises that people could keep their health coverage if they wanted and keep their doctors if they they wanted, and that promise

was false, i think they're in real trouble when they have tough senate races. i think the senate is in play and i just think what kind of changes can we make if we have the house and the senate and put more pressure on the president? >> with seven kids and two locations, you really got to thrive. you got to vote for what you believe they want. what is next for you? i know you want to be the best congressman possible. but are you thinking bigger things? >> i'm doing what i think is best for the people in wisconsin. i like my job. i like what i'm doing. i'm not making any plans right now. i'm enjoying learning how the house works. i'm making a difference on financial services. we have system reform packages that are going through with the consumer financial protection bureau, protecting the american people from the kind of data collection they're doing, kind of like the nsa. so i'm going to stay put for a while. i like what i'm doing. >> and if people want to look that you and see what you accomplished, they can find out because it passed overwhelmingly. >> congratulations on the 7th child. >> thank you. coming up as we look to wrap things up, we have more "fox & friends" and something very
