is this just another example of this administration's failed foreign policy? >> at least 22 people killed and new violence in kiev. >> our goal is to make sure that the people of ukraine are able to make decisions for themselves. >> there are reports of bodies on the streets as the main square -- >> announcing expectations is all very well, but i'm not sure who is impressed by that. >> how are you going to do that, mr. president? are you going to bail them out? are you going to have energy for them? are you going to go toe to toe with putin? >> putin is taking over in areas where the russia in the former soviet union were long gone. >> putin is handling this like what is essentially jimmy carter on steroids. >> i think this is the center piece of the president's foreign policy. >> here is reaction is our panel of national security experts,

former pentagon official michael rubin, and fox news contributor, judith miller, and k.t. mcfarland. k.t., you were very fired up earlier on the fox news channel. whose fault is it? >> it is ukraine's fault, they put themselves in a position of being vulnerable, they want to have a trade union with the west but russia doesn't want them to do it. who has all the leverage? russia? why? ukraine is bankrupt, they need $15 billion, russia will. ukraine has no energy of its own. it can only exist with the energy, the natural gas that russia gives it. and russia has shown they are perfectly happy to turn off the oil and let them be cold unless russia gets what they want. and finally, the ukrainian leadership are not doing what the ukrainian people want them to do. they're going to get bribed and

do what vladimir putin wants them to do. >> the whole thing could have been prevented, you say, do you agree with k.t.? is it the ukraine's fault? or perhaps a little closer to own with our own administration? >> usually i agree with k.t. but will differ here, i think the country that has only been independent since the collapse of the soviet union in 1991, will have problems, you won't have democracy overnight but they would have had a lot easier time if the european community had gotten its act together, and if we, the united states had focused on the challenge that putin was going to pose to the ukraine earlier. he did not. we were completely uninterested when putin started to strong arm this president and to say you will not join the west. you will not become a member of the european union. you will join with us in our

custom's union. as we stand by, soviet union, which we thought was dead, is being reconstituted in the form of the new russia, with vladimir putin. he will think he can do whatever he wants in the region if we let him get away with it. >> is judith right, but can we blame putin? putin is saying i can play this guy if i want to and can take ultimate control of the region? >> absolutely, misread putin for more than ten years. he does not have a soul. what we saw is a desire for compromise, he sees a zero tolerance for influence. he doesn't want the united states influencing ukraine or anywhere else in the form of soviet union. what happens in kiev doesn't stay in kiev. we have to show our allies in the region, estonia, latvia,

that we have their back. >> i think the people here have their back and they get very, very nervous. what does it mean and do we have any options? i don't think we do. >> are we really going to write a check for $30 billion? i don't think we are. maybe we should. but i don't think we are. and at the end of the day, president obama has shown that every time he gets into a room with putin he kind of ducks for cover. putin has definitely read his signals and is going to play it for all it's worth. i think while we want the options we don't have the options. we're not going to give him the money, and president obama doesn't want to go toe to toe. >> i don't think it is the money, i think it is the question, that the opposition knowing that the united states supports it. they can do that by leaning on

viktor yanukovych, you must step down because you're not doing what your people want you to do. you're violating your promises. maybe they will get to make some reforms that the european union -- >> that is a world that does not exist anymore with the united states saying you do this, you do that. putin is not going to give this one up without a fight. >> and why would yanukovych either? aren't they laughing collectively, michael when the president said something? he drew a red line, why would they take him seriously? >> well, putin doesn't take barack obama seriously and that is barack obama's own facility. whenever they talked about the evil empire, it was a shot of adrenalin into the soviet union. what really concerns vladislav putin, he is afraid that what happens in kiev could just as easily happen in moscow, because

the same problems they face, russia also faces as their economy stagnates. >> i worked for ronald reagan, the way he won, was with the economic war fare. putin learned a lesson, he wrote a dissertation in 1999 and said i see what happened. russia lost the cold war, the greatest tragedy, russia is going to claim it back by using its natural gas and its oil resources. and he has followed that script. he understands the power of economic warfare, we don't. >> very quick final word to judy, what do you think comes next? and why should people care? why should they watch this story? >> because if we want to make progress on syria, on iran, on all the other areas where we and the russians are at loggerheads, we have to show we're players in this conflict.

well, it is big brother like we've never seen him before. the federal communications commission under the obama administration wants to have access to news rooms across the country. and one of the fcc commissioners is sounding the alarm, saying he disagrees with the agency's plan. he wrote an op-ed in "the wall street journal" saying they want to send researchers to grill station owners and editors to determine how they decide to run the stories. he wants them to tell the government about their news philosophy and how the station ensures that the community gets critical information. joining me now, eric ericsson,

and lanny davis. all right, eric, this sounds to me like the fairness doctrine on steroids. how can this possibly be constitutional? >> well, you know, i don't know that the government does have a role to go into news rooms to ask these questions largely because if you're asking a question you must be doing something with the response. if they're not doing anything with the response why do it? it looks like they're building a case to do something. and given how the fcc has conducted itself in the past, all the president had to do was go on the campaign trail and bring guns to knife fights. he inspired some irs agents to go after the tea party. what is the fcc going to do to local conservatives and news? >> before i go the lanny, you said it depends on what they will do with the information. so what do you think they will do with it? >> well, i think they're going

to rebuild a case to reshape the fairness doctrine. i work at a very good news room in the largest talk radio station in the country. there are reporters with different political biases, they try to do a very good job, but no doubt if the fcc is going to breathe down their neck and hold the government license, they will do what they want. >> and your good friend, hillary clinton admitted recently that the obama administration is losing the information war. is that why they're doing this, because they feel that they are losing hold of the messaging? >> well, i've been critical of the obama white house for losing the message wars on obamacare a long time ago. they could have done a much better job of explaining it and fixing it. but this is nuts. i can't help your audience that loves to disagree with me. but most people in the fox audience at least seems to.

i think this is crazy, it is unconstitutional. whatever they do with it. it clearly could have a chilling effect on news gathering. we have a first amendment. whoever the fcc calls themselves, a democrat, much less a liberal democrat cannot be body this. and i would really question the sanity of somebody at the fcc of even thinking of this idea. >> it is totally insane, according to the fcc the information they garner will determine how they cover quote, critical information needs along with perceived station bias. so who at the fcc will be deciding what stories are critical to the american people and who is going to be deciding what is actually biassed? these navigate ors? >> that is the problem, having the fcc doing these things. there is a thing called the free market whereas democrats say to republicans all the time you can change the channel. if the news channel is not performing, somebody can change the news channel. having the fcc in the news room

helping to decide the issue is absurd. how do they even know the local issues, they can't even get the weather prediction right? are they going to get the news predictions better. >> lanny, this troubles me, let's move the story a little bit forward. people are wondering, okay they get the survey information, what do they do with it? they could end up penalizing stations by revoking their license. listen to this, they want to ask a reporter if they have ever been told by their boss whether or not a story has been approved or not. so essentially they're asking the reporters and station managers to rat out their bosses. what is the unintended consequence of that? >> look, i'm really having a hard time other than saying whoever is saying that this is happening within the fcc, someone at the fcc has to say this is not true. because if it is true then president obama ought to be firing everybody he can over

there who thought about this idea. by the way, i have to say with all due respect, eric, there is not a single fact to justify your linking barack obama to what happened at the irs. which i also said i would disapprove of. not one fact do you have to say that. but in any case -- >> well, no one got fired there either. so i doubt, lanny that anyone will get fired this time around either. i have an idea. why don't in true spirit of the first amendment put reporters maybe in every room of the government to monitor them, how about that idea? i think that is a better one. thanks guys. >> yeah, that would give me a headache. >> i bet it would give them a headache, too. thank you. coming up, baltimore ravens runningback ray rice is in a heap of trouble after his arrest in atlantic city last weekend. tmz has obtain thunded this foo which allegedly shows him

tanta . welcome back to "hannity," well, he is one of the best runningbacks in the nfl. but ray rice of the baltimore ravens is in the news because of his disturbing actions off the

football field. last weekend he was arrested in atlantic city along with his fiancee. and both were charged with domestic violence, simple assault. and now, tmz sports has obtained video which allegedly shows ray rice dragging his fiancee out of a hotel elevator. we reached out to the ravens for a statement. and they say quote, we have seen the video, this is a serious matter and we're currently gathering more information. and in nfl told me they were gathering information, as well. joining me now, coach brian billick, thank you for joining us. >> sure thing. >> i assume you have seen this footage. and i have to say it is pretty disturbing. so what do you think is going through the mind of the ravens' organization right now. >> well, like any organization in the nfl they really need to wait and see what all the facts are. one of the toughest things right now, and i still live in the baltimore/d.c. area. of all the players on the

baltimore ravens and redskins, ray rice would be the last one that they would have any inkling anything like that would happen. he has been absolutely stall atalwart in the communication. obviously, seeing the footage, this is very serious in both the league, and the baltimore ravens will take it as such. >> brian, we're only see a piece of this. because according to police at the casino they were both involved in the altercation. and we're just seeing the end of it. that is when she is unconscious and he is dragging her out of the elevator. but we don't know what happened prior to that. we don't know if it was her fault, he said, she said. now they're saying that they're not going to let this play out in the media but how do you not let it play out in the media when you have footage surface like this? >> yeah, unfortunately they don't have a say in it because

it will play out the way it is playing out. from what i understand, it was 3:30 in the morning, alcohol involved, a lethal combination. until we see what the facts are, understand what the facts are. i am not making a case for ray rice, this is a despicable act. it happens so often in the nfl, the nfl will tell players look we're going to hold you accountable. and with your past deeds. and if you have an incident we'll look at it cumulatively. well, it goes the other way, as well. ray rice has been an absolute model citizen and player in the nfl. they will certainly give him the benefit of the doubt until they see the facts otherwise. >> what do you think was happening behind the scenes? that is what i am curious about. so when you were coach of the ravens how does it work? does the coach get on the phone with roger goodell? does roger goodell say we'll sort this out later?

what happens behind the scenes? >> well, of course we went through this with the super bowl situation. a lot of it you're doing it in the dark. you don't have a lot of information. you get it second hand. until you get it firsthand you will work in conjunction with the local authorities. one thing we came back to is well, let the process play itself out. and everybody needs to look and see the facts. in the ray lewis situation, the atlanta district attorney would have been well served to see what the facts are before they actually charged ray lewis. and i imagine this is a situation where you need to see a lot of facts gathered before anybody can draw any conclusion as to what happened. >> if you were coaching, what would you be thinking right now? what would you do? >> well, unfortunately, when you get that late night call in the middle of the night and i have two daughters. and your first thought is where are in kids? they were both at home.

you knew it was not going to be good. this was not with regards to your team. you know when you get the late night call, you know it will not be a good one. you try not to jump to conclusions. you try to gather as many facts as you can. play players and agents are so resista resistant, until they call to see what they can do. they have been through this before. they have a first rate group with the owner. the general manager, kevin burn who is the director of communications. they will make sure they hold this up for everybody in involved until they determine what happened for the player and everybody at large. >> and obviously his fiancee. if it does turn out, brian, that he is at fault and he did start

this altercation, do you see the nfl or the ravens suspending him? i know that goodell has the ability to suspend him, to impose penalties and sensitivity training. what do you think would happen? >> yeah, well, there is no question the way it plays out. the league, i would imagine they can be very aggressive depending on exactly what the charge is and how it plays out. again, it is important to remember the players do have certain rights, but the league, in particular, roger goodell has a wide variety of options available to him in the conduct available to the league that he doesn't actually have to wait for sentencing or a trial for that matter before he puts sanctions on ray rice. >> well, we'll be watching this one for sure. coach billick, it has been an honor to have you. coming up next here on "hannity." >> what do you mean? >> we're too into this thing.

now. i just think we're too into it. >> what do you mean? >> we're too into this thing. i don't know how we got so into it. when we were kids our parents didn't give a damn about us. they didn't even know our names! the bedtime routine for my kids is like this royal coronation, jubilee of brushing and rinsing and plaque. and i have to read eight different stories. you know what my bedtime story was when i was a kid? darkness? >> so is jerry onto something, joining me, the co-host of fatal vows, dr. brian russell and contributor for baby center.com.

all right, dr. ludwig, i'm going to start with you. how did this happen? because you know jerry seinfeld is right. >> absolutely, and jerry, what he is talking about is so in sync with what baby center found among the millennial moms, that there is a real back lash, that they don't want to parent like that anymore. certainly there is a generation of moms who didn't have kids for a long time, they're working, so due to guilt, they're creating this whole right why you will. >> but why are women behaving this way? is it the internet? because my parents were not like that. i see the younger generation, they seem to be the helicopter, the kids on bikes, they have so much padding. >> my parents didn't even know my name. my father would go through all of my siblings before he got to my name. i think in part it is because of

the research out there. we want our kids to be happy and healthy. so we have raised entitled kids by giving them so much attention and making it so child focused. but the back lash is happening among millennial mothers who really are saying i was the result of the helicopter parenting. and maybe it is not all it is cracked up to be. >> dr. russell, she used the key phrase there. they're growing up to be entitled. and it reminds me of the millennial generation, the pajama boy, this generation of woosies, so is that what you're getting as a result of this parenting? >> take a brief walk with me, the greatest generation, the world war ii generation, built the modern u.s., they parented with structure, discipline, loving guidance, right? then came the baby boom ers and they profited and built greatly upon that foundation. except at some time they decided

they had been too pressured. so they started parenting with empathy, self-esteem, unconditional support, other people's responsibility. friendship with the kids. that is not how you just get this bedtime mother goosy stuff, they don't mind spending twice as much as they earn, as individuals. it all starts at home. >> so you're saying the message we are coddling you, it translates to later in life when the kids rack up the credit card debt, the parents have to bail them out. >> parenting is a dance where the parent leads in the beginning, and then there is some give and take. and then hopefully if everything is right the kid is able to leave. an adult american needs to put himself to bed, go to sleep and wake up ready to work the next day. so by the time kids are seinfeld's kids' ages, yeah,

they ought to be able to do that without any parental coaxing. >> you want them to be liked and loved but if you don't prepare them for the real world where things are not always going to be your way, and they are not always going to be the center of attention, they are not prepared for the realities of life. and that is why parenting is so cyclical, they want to try something different for their kids so that they raise their kids with a new sense of reality. >> i mean, i have to tell you, not all millennials. but i have worked with some, and it is amazing how sheltered they were, one complained she needed to move her cubicle, because she didn't get enough sun. i never thought of making they say demands. you said there is back lash among these moms, so are parents now pulling back and giving

their kids a little more freedom? >> i think so they're saying i was the result of a helicopter mom and i'm not so happy with the way the world worked out. the world doesn't revolve around me and i don't want my child thinking everything is going to be easy because life is not easy. and in order to be successful in the world you have to be prepared for reality. you have to believe in yourself. you have to know things are not always going to go your way. and how to strategize. dr. russell. final question, is it because we lost the sense of community. this made me think back. my mom would let me go play with friends, she never really checked in that much. the neighborhood was a community. people don't go over to each other's houses like they used to. final thoughts on where it stands today. >> one of the down sides with all the technology today, it has many wonderful applications. i think we have had less of an actual human connection in recent years. and part of what that causes is it causes people to see

themselves less as part of something larger than themselves. and you have to see yourself as that to be happy, healthy, successful in the long-term. it promotes an extreme sort of self-focus that gets us into this dopey area of this kind of parenting rig inin inin ining r was talking about. coming up, hollywood is actually waging the war against women. plus, actor jason patrick is facing a big custody battle off screen. he says he is a father and much more. he joins us later to explain. welcome back to "hannity," well, president obama and his supporters in hollywood claim that the gop is enclagaged in a quote, war on women. but a new report shows that it is hollywood at the front of the war. according to one report, women scored just 28.4% of speaking roles in the top 100 films from 2012. let's demonstrate how the money matters there. in 2013, the highest paid actor was robert downey jr., raking in a whoping $75 million, jolie brought in half of that with 34 million buckings. joining me, fox news

contributor, katie pavlich. is this true, do you think hollywood is waging a war on women? >> well, i personally don't like that term, but yeah, the actors out here in hollywood, you wake up, you look at these casting breakdowns and you quickly notice that for every maybe three or four opportunities for a male actor there is only maybe one opportunity for a female actress to come in and even read for a casting director. and what is also troublesome if you look at the number of executives, the number is even less, 16 or 17% of executives in the movie-making business are women. so therefore it is not that surprising that the bottom line really affects us the most. >> uh-huh. katie, you know what i find interesting, we hear so much about women in hollywood, their clothing and relationships. when it comes down to it if this

study is in fact correct, they're not getting the pay chen-te checks or the roles, why do you think it is? >> well, you would think that where they're constantly talking of women's equality, they're not paying the same to women. the hollywood actresses that i talk to say it is a man's world. and when it comes to how women are portrayed in these films, they're portrayed as man-loving obsessed women. they're not necessarily portrayed as business women or entrepreneurs. the first female director to win an oscar was just a couple of years ago with katherine bigelow. it is not the first time women tried to get into it. it is a boy's club, the women in hollywood have a very specific purpose for women in the roles. >> oh, a very specific purpose,

wink, wink on that one. what do we do about this? hollywood clearly, hypocritical, we know that. we've seen it in many different instances in politics. but i pulled up the 2013 and 2012 highest domestic grossing films. listen to this. spider-man, okay? what else do we have on here. skyfall, which is james bond, now we have wolf of wall street. what is the solution? she-wolf of wall street with reese? >> you're highlighting a pattern where women are usually placed in the supportive role and would correlate to the lesser salaries that we see our actresses command. as katie points out there is not a shortage of capable women in hollywood, i think we have to put them at the top. that is the solution.

i know for me, there were more women that graduated in my law school class than there were men. however, there was something interrupting the pipeline getting women to be power brokers. until we address that it is not going to change. >> and katie, you're familiar with the media. you work in the media. they found pretty much the same thing when they looked at women in news media and women even in sports. however, women were doing better in sports than they were in the television news business. so what should women do if they're trying to get in the women's roles and they're struggling, but it is a boy's club, how do there? maybe there are arguments to be made that there is a real war on women? >> well, i would like to say i am proud to work for the fox news channel, which we know hires lots of women. maybe there is something getting in front of the pipeline to get these women to the top. i would say it is a lot of liberal women getting in the way. you look at barbara walters just the other day on "the view."

she works in media, guess who she is defending? woody allen, who defend s roma polanski, and they get all the support for men who abuse and use women in a professional way. so i think that hollywood women need to look in the mirror and ask if they're helping women get to the top in the industry. women are their own worst enemy. there is a book out about cat fight asking women get jealous about women climbing up the ladder beneath them. so women are acting maybe worse than the men are by preventing women from rising up and taking these roles. >> i'll 100% agree with that, andrea. you can't assume every woman in hollywood is a liberal. plenty of women that i know that work in there. moving on to the point, yeah. often times we see for many groups in the society
