concerned by reports of military movements taken by the federation inside ukraine. russia has historic relationship with ukraine including cultural and economic ties and facility in crimea. any violation of ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity would be deeply destabilizing. >> other warnings also announced sternly by the ambassador to the united nations but in an odd twist, "new york times" is reporting the newly installed pro-russian prime minister of crimea did release a statement where he said he had control and he reached out to president vladimir putin of russia for help of safeguarding the region. now not long after this statement we did hear from the russian foreign ministry who said unidentified gunmen, quote, directed from kiev had try to seize control of the ministry of internal affairs in that region. so really placing blame on ukrainians or so it appears. rush has warned the u.s. against any involvement mike

rogers released a statement and it reads in part: it appears that the russian military now controls the crimea peninsula. this aggression is a threat not only to ukraine but regional peace and stability. russia's latest action is yet another indicator that vladimir putin's ambitions threaten u.s. interest and allies around the world. a can flick the world is keeping on eye on this morning. >> russians say they are simply protecting their assets. >> their bases. >> which would explain why they are shaking up at airports armed guards at airports that don't belong to them. >> planes and everything else. they had been remaining mum on military intervenezuela. vowing to protect the ethnic russians in the region. >> fluid situation there. reports were fishy coming back and forth as to exactly what, you know, what was happening there.

tough for them to do. try not to do that. it's a red flag. >> okay. i have been audited twice. i admit it. and it was both times it was math mistakes. and it seemed like they were mistakes i made on purpose. but they weren't. >> math mistakes is some the biggest thing that come out. i'm a cpa. that's why i have a calculator and people check my numbers. have you got to make sure that your math is right. the irs checks it. so whenever you put in your return they will scan did and do the math over. this f. this has math mistakes you will hear from them. if they see too many that raises a red flag as well. for goodness sakes check your math. >> if i too get audited what's the first thing i do. >> first of all you panic. >> yeah, i do. >> and then you calm down a little bit. and then you can contact the irs. they actually have an independent board like an organization that's called the taxpayer advocate form.

welcome back, two months now since a new tax on medical devices was implemented to help pay for obamacare. since then, the 2.3% excise tax has killed about 33,000 jobs in the industry and nearly 1/3 of medical device companies are cutting back. mark throwdol is the president of one of those companies a small one. pediatrics, orthopedic equipment for children. great to meet. >> you thank you very much, mike. good to be here. >> let's get into this excise tax. i said your company is small. it is compared to like a pfizer or some big -- >> -- yeah by all means. we are a company that's only seven years old. in that time we have developed the widest array of surgical implants for kids. these are products that were neglected before we came along. and in the hands of skilled surgeons in the operating room these products are

>> that was guest aron. he blamed white rage for the current state of politics and ripped apart wisconsin governor scott walker. joining us now with more on the lecture is the uww freshman who caught it all on tape. kyle brooks was in the room filming it. nice to he so you this, no,. >> food morning, thanks for having me. >> mament prod you to wanting to start filming it there. did your radar go of o? something is odd about this lecture? what was your reaction? >> my professor in my gen ed sociology class invited her friend from milwaukee siu to speak to us. and right away he said pretty outrageous things about the republican party being racist. i quickly grabbed my phone and began filming. >> you say the theme of this lecture was kind of that all of the problems facing the country are because of these evil republicans who are only looking out for white people and wealthy people.

you knew this professor leaned to the left but were you surprised that this person was brought in as a guest speaker. >> absolutely. up to 90 i knew she leaned left but i didn't know how radically left she leaned. she hit it pretty well in the class. once the guest speaker. politics on the right ring is fueled by right rage. the only reason republicans were successful in 2010 were fear over. not wanting to pay for brown people's insurance. it was absolutely outrageous toward the republican party. >> he is running for political office. what did you think then when the professor brought in the opposing viewpoint for a counter lecture? >> well, that's just the thing. the professor hasn't brought in an opposing viewpoint. and i didn't believe she will. i have a good feeling that with the culture of the campus these days, this type of radical left wing rant is acceptable whereas an opposing even moderate conservative view would not be accepted on the campus. >> now, kyle, you took some

credentials other than bachelor's degree are earning more. folks can earn good money. we need to do a much better job at the high school level of tieing what folks expect in the workplace to what kids are learning in high school. so right now we are not doing a very good job at all of preparing these kids who aren't going to go to college to actually be ready to go to google and other places where they can actually make good money without having to go to college. other countries do a great job of this. asia, china, do a wonderful job of preparing kids right out of high school to enter the work place, we don't. >> whitney lead me bring you in on this. his point is we have five hiring attributes at google. number one thing we look for is general cognitive ability and it's not iq. it's not test scores. what do you say to his point? >> i think he is right. you know, these guys that are ceos of major corporations, they know what's best tore their companies who they look to hire. a lot of companies have

sthir own test when you come in to interview that they set up internally that best predict going to do well in their workforce. we look at the grand scheme of education today and the president of ithaca college, he used to work for the gre board. he even said that for their university test scores aren't a good predictor of their student's at the tenel performance both in school and in the workforce. and then we look at the ce ohs of ceos facebook, microsoft. apple, steve jobs none of them finished college. it's hard to say that a college degree is a predetermine nant of how successful you are going to be in the workforce. >> amber, here is some unemployment rates. go ahead, take that away. >> no. i just want to get the point in that test scores do matter there were some fantastic research by some great economists a few years ago. they followed 1 million elementary school children into adulthood. you you know what they found? they found that once they -- these were kids with high-test scores. they made more money. they were more likely to graduate from college. they were more likely to get a great job.

skills to work place skills. >> it is hard to convert what we do to -- it's not all of us are it gays. there are a the love us out there and you are kind of on your own. >> well, is he not on his own anymore. retired navy chief petty officer rick hailman is now interviewing with new jobs with the help from our very own cheryl casone from the fox business network. we are so happy to have you here and that you decided you wanted reach out. you said you saw him on the show and said i can help this guy. >> we are going to be doing this every week, actually. there are so many veterans out there that have a particular what rick had. that was a resume that didn't translate into the corporate world. there is lots of programs out there that are not getting to those guys. we are going to talk about thatted in the weeks to come. today i wanted to focus on the resume and the mistakes that he was making and how that resume was changed in 24 hours that rick and other vets can get a job. the first one was, let me

show you the before and after of rick's resume. it was very cluttered as you can see this. the after was more streamlined. it was more -- there is more spacing. more bullets. can you see kind of the difference. >> >> absolutely. more enticing for an employer, i imagine. >> he was writing things like -- his old resume which actually i'm holding in my hand it said excellent trainer, mentor facilitator coach and problem solver. do you know what that is? that's a manager. that's the simplest thing that he could have done to show a company i have got all these skills on the battlefield that i can take into your company. here is how i'm going to do it and management positions pay a lot more. >> employers too, they don't know about the jargon, the military jargon and what does retired petty officer. that needs to be stream lined. >> we can show that as well. he had a lot of acronyms on his resume: nsw, nso program buds. feod. these are all on his re may.

h.r. person in corporate america going i have absolutely no idea what any of that is. take all that stuff out and translate that as well. i will keep working on rick's resume this weekend to make some more changes for him. again, it's just not translating. the message is getting lost in the jargon, the words and investor bang. jargon. -- remember verbiage. >> so specific to the military it was too many words, too many titles in his military resume. and, again, if you look you can see that all of those lines were simplified on the bottom. again, every -- three sentences became one sentence. you and i are journalists we know we have got to keep it s but many people especially on resume they want to get out so much about themselves they forget they have an audience which is that person across the table interviewing them that has to be able to quickly understand what they're

saying. that was the difference i think i found most first and foremost. a lot of resumes that i get. i'm flooded with them every week from viewers. >> what a challenge that our veterans have to try to change from this military lifestyle back to the civilian lifestyle. >> right. >> so many deal with this as they're looking for jobs, unemployment high for them. what tips do you have? >> these are my tips to all of you especially. again, i want focus on these veterans out there that are watching. i know you are not getting the jobs that you want right now and i want to help you. have you got to emphasize like did i with rick man managerial skills. take out the majority of acronyms i told you that that is very important. also informational interviews. you want to go out and set up conversations. there is nothing wrong with having a conversation with a company. rick was working at a tractor supply company. when i looked at his resume i was shocked that he didn't have even better because he is somebody that is deserving and has the experience on his resume 22

high in the crimea region, officials have closed the airspace and the airport there. the state department has issue ad travel warning discouraging anybody from getting anywhere near that region. reports are also hitting the wires which say russian forces are trying to seize control of an anti-aircraft missile base in crimea showing again that tensions continue to grow. as far as u.s. involvement russia says it warns against it. >> i think i can say that interference from our western colleagues has not been helpful and they have certain responsibility for those dramatic consequences and also responsibility for not following through with the agreement they themselves brought about and affixed their signatures to on february 21st. >> reporter: we did hear from house intelligence committee chairman mike rogers said the latest aggression is a threat not just to you crane but regional peace and stability.

my wife, i give my wife everything. i do anything i can for my wife. i'm sleeping with her. who your sleeping with? >> i propose that there be a special recall election of this whole damn board. >> wow. the reason why everybody is so upset a new report shows their superintendent's total compensation for last year over $663,000. all for running a district with just three schools and just about 6,500 students. >> joining us now is someone who attended that meeting and has lived in that district her whole life, danielle. nice see you this morning. welcome to the show. >> good morning. >> before we start talking let's look at jose fernandez, the superintendent's perks. he has a base pay of $271,000. he gets an annual raise of 9%. 9% every year. designee works 215 days a year. that's his work year. and he can only be fired by a

supermajority of the board and it goes on and on from that. so $270,000 is what was voted on. how is he getting $663,000? >> well, it's interesting because i think had you look at the base salary it does seem reasonable. it's what's competitive in terms of local school districts for that position. but, for example, you mentioned the 215 work face he has. that's less than the average and for every day in excess of that he gets paid a daily rate. so, for example, that contributed to the total package i believe he made like $50,000 additionally for extra days worked. in addition to that because he has 215 work days he has about nine weeks of time off. so, if you have nine weeks of time off you're not going to take your vacation. so then he cashes out your vacation, i believe he made about 25,000 in vacation pay. so those kinds of things add up.

>> danielle look at the one towards the bottom of that list that was surprising to me, over 900,000 for a home loan. >> yes. >> this isn't so much -- i'm all for people making money. that's not -- >> as am i. i think they should be duly compensated in order to attract the best and brightest particularly to the public sector so they don't go the public sector we do have to compensate people. i don't have a problem with people make being a decent living. what he makes is outside of the norm, outside of the average for that position. in fact he makes more than the lausd superintendent, the second largest school district in the nation with, i believe, 63,000 students as compared to our school district with only 6,000 students. >> it is remarkable and you know when you talk to teachers who are having to come out of pocket to pay supplies for their own classrooms like construction paper. my sister is a teacher and buying supplies out of her own wallet and to learn the superintendent is make triple

what the board actually voted on that's got to hit them where it hurts doesn't it? >> certainly. and when you see that, he has as you said received a 9% raise every year without any valuation, i believe he's had one formal evaluation. the teachers in the past ten years received two raises. so when you compare that and certainly i believe he deserves credit for improvements in the district since he's taken over. there's definitely been some increases in test scores and there's some beautiful buildings and great technology that's been added to the campuses. but still it's not a just compensation for what he's doing and that's a team effort. >> people are so angry about it. what's going to happen, do you think? >> you know, people are outraged. this is a working class community. the average income is about $45,000 a year. and a lot of these families are

two working parents. so we feel like we elected the board so that they would, so we could give them our trust to run our district well. to be fiscally responsible. and to do everything in the best interests of the children. and i do think that people are is going to move towards trying to do a recall or certainly this board will not be re-elected at a minimum and that i think at the board meeting that they called, something that really stood out the me is that several of the board members said this was a big surprise to them that they had no idea that he was making this amount of money. and, you know, that's their job. they have two main responsibilities, i believe. one, is to hire and fire the superintendent. another is to be fiscally responsible with the public dollars they are spending. for home to say they were not aware he made this salary it's hard to swallow. >> especially when these teachers are struggling to pay their bills. danielle we appreciate you joining us this morning. thank you so much for bringing the story to us. >> thank you. talking about students,

uncomfortable by having to make decision over the color of gown they would choose for their graduation. used to be white for the ladies and another color for the men. so they put to it a vote in the school, basically the school went along with it. now there's one solid color a maroon color for everyone there. >> i was thinking back to my daughter's jill's graduation from high school and they were all in the same color, midnight green. that was the color of the school. i didn't even think anything of it. everybody has the same color on. i go all the way back when i graduated from high school it was true. the girls wore one color and the guys wore another. school colors but you split them up. this school wanted all the same color. >> yeah. >> students voted on it. it's now maroon. here are the students speaking out about it. listen. >> it's not as big as they make it. coming to school for more than a decade. >> people shouldn't outright support something that makes other people feel bad. >> this is a color youear for

two hours. i don't care. >> the group that came out against it initially was a pro gay group and they said, you know, people who are say born with certain sexual organs but think something different of themselves in their head, you know, which gown do they wear. do they wear the white one because that's what they were born with or do they wear the blue one because that's what they think are. are we becoming too sensitive. >> cut it in half and sew their own. >> or if they think they are something different, maybe they are born that way. millions of americans and children who are born with the sexual organs or not fully developed and don't define themselves by a particular gender. that's a fact. it's not as black and white. pick whatever color you want. imagine being a parent and your daughter is born a specific way where sexual organs are not

not treated. they are trying to bring out this drug to help people with undertreatment is of pain. the other problem of course is addiction and accidental overdose deaths. there's a lot of people who may accidentally take too much of this drug or even on purpose abuse, crush the drug and then die from it. >> what is the concern here? the question about this approval process from the fda it's raises a lot of let flags because it seems so dangerous. what's so dangerous about it? >> the thing about this drug it's extended release. it's supposed to last for a really long time. more drug packed in there. if someone crushes it and takes all at once it has a much higher likelihood of causing death or an overdose. that's the concern. the other thing because it's so long act being it's hard for people to negate those effects. it will be in the body for a long time. >> do we know whether or not this is safe if you use it the way it's prescribed. i get frustrated because in this country we're quick to put these drugs on the market and then we

find out problems later. drug manufacturers want the money. >> there's an issue, because people think about this as another objectixycotioxycotin. people with pain can have an accidental drug over dose. you don't want a repeat of the problems we've seen in the past. >> the thought of it, the vicatin i had to take for wisdom teeth and you have to have it on a full stomach. i got stick. i can't imagine this one being ten times as strong. >> these drugs don't work for everyone that has pain. just because you have pain doesn't mean it will work. it's helpful for people with surgical pain. helps people to function. requires a lot of time and effort to figure out if it's helpful. there's a lot of side effects like nausea. people can feel drowsy. we need to figure out who are the people that would benefit from this. that's why there's so much
