lost. and he knew that it was that the latino should have won. he said everybody thump, thump, thumping on everybody. lots of folks got it. we'll see you tomorrow night. this was a fox news alert tonight. we will recap the big special election win for republicans in the all-important swing state of florida on tuesday. gop candidate david jolly defeated obama ally, alex sink, reaction from the one and only charles krauthammer . but first, the chinese are claiming their satellite found possible area where the plane might have gone down. for more, we turn to fox's over catherine herridge. catherine, let's look at the images. tell me what you think about them and the reports circulating all day.

what do you think. >> reporter: well, based on our reporting this first went out on a chinese-based technology website. and what it claims to show is that the images captured on march 9th, so one day after the flight disappeared. and it does suggest that the debris captured on the images is within a 21-mile radius. and that some of the debris is significantly large. and the reason that is important is that an ntsb investigator, a former investigator reviewed the images for fox tonight and said that if the plain broke up in the air what we would expect to find are very large pieces of debris. and that would seem consistent with what we see in the images, sean. >> okay, do you believe there is a strong possibility in fact this could be the plane? >> i don't think it matters what i believe. i think it matters what i have learned through my reporting. and so far what i have found is that the relevant agencies here in washington that really have

an investigative stake in what happened to the flight, are really aware of the images and drilling down to try to get independent verification. one of the points made to me is that if this information made available on the chinese website is accurate at least one piece of debris is about 70 feet in length. which would be consistent with one of the wings on the boeing 777. the other thing to look for is the tail section as well and the other piece of debris also seem to be consistent with that, as well. >> okay, so the chinese official news agency and the government website has these images that we're showing our audience tonight. we're talking about the southern tip of vietnam for where this might be a and that raises the question how off course the plane was. what can you tell us about that? >> well, based on the report on the chinese government website it appears that the flight was slightly off course but it does not appear that it took this hard left or western route that

has been reported over the last 24 hours. so this raises questions about the reporting from malaysian military sources that somehow there were radar pings for the flight after the transponder went off. but this location, sean, is consistent with the last known contact, rather, between the vietnamese air traffic controllers and the crew. so that is the significant point. and also the size of the wreckage. but i think you have a healthy skepticism here, because we have to wait on the authorities. this is a political situation, with the asians, the bulk of the nationals on the flight were chinese, sean. >> i have spoken in the last couple of days to many pilots of the triple 7, which they point out rightly so is one of the safest airplanes in the sky. and they have talked very openly and frankly that for the

transponder to go off it would have to have been done manually by a pilot. >> the information we have is that both transponders went dark or were off. but one of the things that u.s. investigators are doing now is they're going to kind of de-code the data, both militarily and the civilian radar data to try to understand the last known location for that flight. because aside from the transpontran transponder there is another data stream which transits from the plane to the stream, that transits a virtual realtime maintenance record of how the systems are working on the aircraft. so one of the questions is at what point did the data stream stop to the respective sources? >> we know it is the first step getting ab explanation. have you been able to confirm the final words spoken by the

pilots, all right, good night, any interpretation you talked o with to the experts all day? >> well, the news that came out there were not any chinese independent reporters from that briefing. but what they say consistently is that it was very routine, the conversation between the air traffic controllers in the crew, in effect, we're handing you off. the crew responded and good night. and i think the key in the last couple of days is we have at least three data streams. we have the radar, the tra transponder, and then we have this kind of maintenance data which should help us locate the approximate location. and if that is consistent with the pattern, the images we're seeing tonight then they can kind of drill down for that black box. but i think we have to take a cautious approach because there has been no comment so far from the malaysia airline or the

malaysian government or in effect the chinese authorities, as well. but what we're seeing is these are pretty striking images and the bottom line is they are really being investigated in a very investigative way this evening. >> all right, catherine herridge, great reporting, we know you have been reporting on it for almost 24 hours. thank you for having me. >> and we bring in boeing triple 7 pilot, and lieutenant general mcinerny. hank, you have flown the triple 7. i looked at the safety record. we had the one incident, it is pretty impeccable. what are your thoughts when you hear what is going on here and the great mystery surrounding us? >> well, good evening, sean. you know, it does not look good to me. you know, pilots think about the possibility of terrorist acts. and you know when i heard this

latest information about the debris field and its position, it looked like probably the drift brought it to that position and it has probably drifted further now. and oceanographers can figure it out. the thing to me on how it can be destroyed in the air there are few things that can do it except terrorist activity. >> what makes you think it was in the air? >> well, i was listening to what catherine said and the information she had and the size of the debris field and the size of some of the pieces in the debris field. if an airplane is destroyed in the air as it comes down a lot of the pieces, for example, let's say a wage was blown off. it doesn't destroy itself on the way down. it will flutter light, with the

amount of air it has around it. some of the pieces will float down, they will float forever because there are fuel tanks in them. and it may leak but it will take a long time for them to sink. >> can you confirm as a pilot for triple 7 and in fact the transponder was in the pilot's control and they would have to turn it off manually? >> well, it is, and i am not an explosive experts. but for example if there were a crew member and he just dumped everything out of his kit bag and put four pounds of c 4 in it -- >> general mcinerny, i want to bring you in here. obviousl obviously ile obviouslile -- obviously in a post-9/11 era, planes just don't go missing in the sky. >> well, i have to agree with hank.

airplanes just don't dis disintegrate, you immediately think about a catastrophic event. the only thing that can do that quickly would be an explosion. that is why getting that black box is so critical, sean. i think this is probably the most hopeful sign we've seen. i have looked at the satellite imagery, both through elect electrooptical, because the chinese are announcing it they may not want to let us know how accurate the satellites are, so they may have given us the wrong dimensions. but there are three huge pieces out there. and i happen to agree with hank.

that is the worrisome thing. it is important we have our very best because technically the u.s. has the best sensors, but the best sensors to find the field that leads to the black box because that will tell the story. >> i know we call it the black box, it is obviously orange, obviously built to withstand a significant crash. why do you think we've not been able to pick up the ping from that? either one of you have a theory? >> because we haven't gotten close enough to it off it is submerged deep enough in the water. you wouldn't get that ping until you get a submersable, or something close to it. and we'll look into whether or not the terrorism played a role. plus, a big win in florida, with republican jolly beating

is where my thoughts go. >> you are right, i think, sean, first of all my prayer to the victims of the 239 people who died. and also i want to condemn the cavalier attitude of the aviation minister of malaysia. i was very upset. >> brigitte, this is the world we live in. it seems in a post-9/11 world it would be foolish not to suspect out of hand that this could be an incident of terrorism, right? >> exactly, and i believe sean that both the chinese and the malaysians, i believe they thought it immediately had something to do with terrorism. listen, the iranian national bureau already warned china there would be a terrorist

attack in the chinese airport and the subways just days before the disappearance of this airline. also, china has been on high alert regarding terrorism, especially after the first of the month, march 1st, where there was a terrorist attack in a train station where 29 people were killed and 140 injured. the chinese government suspects it is a group called the east turkistan islamist movement, which is a separatist movement in china, trying to declare independence from china. we had three of them in gitmo arrested because they were fighting with al-qaeda. china did not want them back. we ended up sending them to bermuda. that is what the chinese know, and that is what they're dealing with. >> mike, your final thought? >> well, i'm glad we're able to find the debris. what a relief to the families

espoused by the president. i think voters decided they want to keep a check on president obama. >> all right, here to break down what the gop wins in florida and what it means in november for the mid-terms is our fox news contributor, charles krauthammer. >> good to be with you. >> all right, when she ran for governor, this was not a slam dunk for the republicans even though they had this seat for a number of years. what do you take out of this? >> this is a very important victory for republicans and it was a very important indicator of what is going to dominate the mid-term elections. the only caveat in a special election, the turnout is low. there is about one third lower than 2010. and usually in that kind of election where turnout is low

the more energized constituency and clearly it is the conservative republican consistency will turn out. but apart from that, this was clearly a sign that the position that alex sink took on obamacare is simply not going to work. hers was don't end it, mend it. and that simply wouldn't cut it for democrats. and i think many of them who were planning to run that way are now running scared and re-thinking what they're going to do for the campaign ahead. >> well, let's go to one of the ads that david jolly ran in this campaign because i think we'll see a lot of similar ads as the 2014 elections heat up. let's roll this. >> if you like your health care plan you can keep your health care plan, period. >> i'm david jolly, now my opponent and her cronies are saying things they know are not true. here are the facts, i want to balance the budget. she wants government to spend
