received information based on satellite imagery of objects possibly related to the search. the task of locating these objects will be extremely difficult and it may turn out that they are not related to the search for flight mh 370. >> now, we can can can expect to hear massive speculation about the debris until it's found. that's because the media is running wild with the airlines story as you know. there is a big reason why. money. the nation's newspapers are in dire trouble. they need bold headlines. the network news doesn't want to cover important stories like the irs and benghazi but they can cover the airliner without any political consequences. cable news, which now dominates america's prime time media is in a brutal war for ratings. the fox news channel was the number one rated cable channel in the country last week. not just news all cable channel, we beat everybody, the zombies, the throwns, you name it there is a lot at stake here.

fnc wants to keep leadership and main competitor cnn understands there is appetite for the airline story. going wall to wall trying to generating this interest and get some viewers. msnbc stayed the liberal course not behind up about the airliner story. if they can find a way to blame chris christie things may change. the problem with all of this is that the press in america is not, not what the founding fathers once envisioned. we receive special constitutional privileges because the founders wanted independent eyes on the government. james madison, thomas jefferson, ben franklin and the rest wanted honest reporting so the americans could decide which americans to vote into or out of power. because of the big money, now associated with the media, that concept has been severely eroded. today, circulation of ratings dominate news coverage and unfortunately so does ideology. the combination of cash and politics makes it exceedingly difficult. for you to get the truth.

now, there is nothing wrong with wanting to follow the jet liner story, it's a mystery. folks like that. when the media begins to pander to the audience and fabricate things, then there is a problem. we're living in an extremely dangerous age where thugs like putin and the mullahs of iran could ignite a world war. we need honest and courageous media. do we have that? you make the call. and that's the memo. now for the top story tonight. rescue and location that's going on right now in the southern indian ocean. joining us on the phone from new london, connecticut, admirable james loy the former commandant of the u.s. coast guard. san francisco aviation pilot conducted search and rescue missions for the air force. admiral loy begin with you. tell me about the south indian ocean. what are we dealing with? >> it's enormous challenge. any set of activities is datum the whole notion of what is the most logical place, either it's the last known position or an

extrapolated version of a last known position. when you are talking about the south indian ocean, the vastness of that body of water, the depth of that body of water, the terrain around it that body of water makes it an extraordinarily difficult search pattern to put into place. you know, when hunter left jfk and exploded in the air the datum was immediate and well known. even the jfk jr. flight which left new york on its way to martha's vineyard very well known pattern, we knew exactly where to search and we found the debris exactly where we expected to find it in this instance, 13 days later, the amall gam of as much data as can be brought to bear in an area of the south indian ocean which in itself is a guess from the original flight path makes this almost impossible search pattern to lay out. >> you are going to have to be very very lucky. mr. christianson, when you search, it depends on human beings now with eyes. they have to see.

that means the planes have to go very low and the admiral mentions terrain. there is no terrain. there is no terrain. it's up in the air. not like the atlantic ocean where you have islands and two continents and things like that. you are heading toward antarctica there, right? >> well, that's facially right, bill. because when you are flying, you have to turn when do you search patterns. so if you want to balance getting low so you can see initially any floating debris but then when you turn, on the 30's and p 3s you have 35 feet of wing hanging out there that you don't want to scrape a wing tip on the water and be added to the search. >> 7500 feet is the sight range about 500 feet? >> that's correct. you can go loor than that go down to 300 feet as well. and some cases down to 150. >> all right. now, in this kind of a situations though, when you are looking for an 80-foot and that sounds big, it is big.

but not an ocean of that size. it's a speck, right? >> it is a speck. and not only that, it is in an ocean that is already filled with debris. so, whether it's a container that went over the side from a container ship or lots of other possibilities. the challenge there to identify this specifically as aircraft wreckage as you say said just a moment ago makes you put eyes on it to have a factual determination and vastness of the south indian ocean that's a huge challenge. >> right. now, when mr. christensen, when you hear 80-foot civilian as admirable just pointed out of could be a huge container that got loose from a cargo ship. a lot of cargo going around there. but 80 feet, that's substantial. i mean, that would have to be reported, a cargo ship you would assume would report something like that. so, therefore, with what we know happened factually to this airliner because it was tracked by satellite and

radar, this isn't out of the ordinary that this would be part of that plane. i don't think it's out of the ordinary. i think this has to be taken trawl seriously, am i right? >> yes. have to be taken ultra seriously because you are putting assets out there. and if there is somebody that is still alive out there, then you are wasting precious time on someone else and while you are looking at this. so, there is behind the scenes in the search and rescue forces both the surface and in the air,. >> there is urgency here? >> urgency, but also there is strategy as well on how are you going to do this? if you are one country and you bring one type of airplane and i bring another type of airplane, we want to see what the capabilities are so we can can positively exploit each plane's airplane high point. >> right now australia being the country that is closest is really calling a lot of the logistical shots. i only have 20 seconds. black box bottom of the indian ocean, got a two week

the key chancellors and prime ministers our european allies are going to try to hash this out. because the first round of sanctions from the u.s. and the eu were maybe not laughed at but they were pushed back upon. >> in moscow they were laughing at him. they everywhere laughed at. you are going over sunday with the president. is that when you leave. >> we try to go ahead of him and after the netherlands he is going on to roam with the pope. >> are you going to rome with the pope. >> yeah. >> say prayers. >> i will say hello papa. >> is he going to rome. >> they are trying to push him out. this is where the u.s. believes they have leverage on the international stage. >> putin is not going to show up? >> i don't even think he is invited. putin in recent years has been desperately trying to get into the club. he has wanted to be a member of the world trade organization. they expanded it to the g-8 so they could include russia. what the president and the chancellor of germany and others are saying you are out of the club.

has already paid their premiums, what percentage of the population of enrollees that includes. we can point you to major insurers who have placed that figure at 80%, give or take. depending on the insurer. but we don't have specific data that is, you know, in a reliable enough form to provide. >> that's unbelievable to me that the white house doesn't have data to provide you with a very interesting question. how many people paying? how many people bought? >> give or take. that's a big give or take because some insurance companies have said 80 o% have paid. others have said far less have paid whether it's fifth or 60%. bottom line if you are out saying a million have enrolled and a bunch of them hadn't put their checks in and haven't paid. as you know, you don't pay, you don't have insurance. you are not really enrolled. >> it's astounding to me that this kind of a thing, which is the signature legislation of the

music. >> i think he should be are respected for doing that he is absolutely right. he is telling the truth and few of these other people will. but i wanted to get it on the record. now, on your radio program, are you covering the missing airliner the record. but on your radio program are you covering the missing airline deal? >> i think i spent maybe ten seconds, in reference to it, unless there is real new developments that lead to some new conclusions or really open a door that we can walk through as hosts or as listeners or viewers i don't get the constant you know drum beat obsession, every conjecture and guess. i get that it is a story but it seems to me there are a lot of big, big stories not being covered by other media entities whether it is regarding illegal immigration or the economy. obviously huge developments in

the ukraine and our nato allies are very concerned about what happened there. >> all right, but you know you will probably get higher ratings if you go with the popular story people are talking about. everywhere i go, people ask me, i say if i knew i would tell you. you have made a decision that on your program you're not going to pander. and that is what this is, to the audience, you might get a bigger audience, you're going to stay with what you do. why did you make that decision? >> because look, you can make stories that get pretty big audiences, well, you saw a ufo three days ago, there are all sorts of topics that you can do, cover skin head stories -- >> this is a huge, huge audience, huge story. >> right. it is a huge story and it should be covered and given prominent coverage but we have major problems facing the united states of america. and just doing the tragedy tv

speculation minute by minute, quarter hour after quarter hour, i think does a disservice to your audience. >> four hours today on the debris sight, straight on cnn. but again, i'm going to ask you the question again. you know that you are ceding audiences, some are not going to listen to you. they're going to go somewhere else, speculation du jour. >> i will take longevity versus -- >> all right, i'll take the hit. and i have not gotten the hit, the false report is dominating the month of march, we're ahead as we usually are in every category and every demographic range. my audience and your audience, as well, understands what we do. and they stay with us. they're loyal. but i could get a bigger audience if i just did 60
