good morning, everyone. it is saturday the 22nd of march, 2014th. i'm anna kooiman. fox news alert. planes back in the air searching new area of possible debris of that missing malaysian jet. this morning we know a whole lot more about what went on inside the cockpit before na plane vanished into thin air. and a pastor fighting stage three cancer must wait weeks for treatment. why? he's still waiting for his obamacare to kick in. he will join us live with his heartbreaking story. every kid knows this song by hea heart. ♪ ♪

problems. >> natural methods to try to treat your ailing allergies. we have a fox alert. malaysian airlines officials wrapping up the search. >> the first plane to return from the search found no debris. this as crews continue to search the indian ocean for possible debris spotted 1500 miles southwest of perth, australia. >> meanwhile, new video showing the mounting frustration from family members. 239 people on board there. they're not giving up hope though. elizabeth joins us live from washington, d.c., now. good morning, elizabeth. >> reporter: good morning. we learned that australian authorities are actually broadening the search area by about 50% in the indian ocean. you can see on your screen a hypothetical trajectory of the plane's path. earlier this morning locally, remember the country is hours ahead of us, a p-3 orion took the search off the coast of

australia which is 1500 miles southwest. at least one aircraft has returned with no new news. additional resources were also used later in the day. now malaysian authorities have said working this theory is one of the best things yet in finding the plane. australia's acting prime minister said friday not only could those objects seen by satellites no longer be floating, if they are, they could have shifted with heavy currents and very violent conditions. >> we can't be sure at this stage whether the debris that's been sighted in the satellite imagery is related to the loss of the aircraft. it is the most promising lead that's available internationally, but there are any number of other explanations. >> reporter: australian authorities also reminding folks that that area being searched is almost 10,000 feet deep. anna, peter, clayton, back to you guys. >> time is of the essence.

thank you so much, elizabeth. that debris field is sinking further and could be moved by the current. >> could have moved dozens of miles from its original location. we don't know what the original location is at this point. >> right. when you have these large chunks by satellite, by the time they get there, they could, as you point out, be sunk to the ocean. we'll have michael kay coming up talking about what the search patterns are. we have new information about the final hour in that cockpit based on a new transcript on what was said back and forth to flight control. we'll read through about the altitude, climbing, and then a second part of this. here's the first part as the aircraft was radioing back. here' mh-370 saying this is mh-370 please climb to altitude 250. going back and forth saying this is our flight we're climbing altitude 250. they continue to climb to 350 and on and on and on.

the final altitude is 350. >> right. they get there, the pilot, the 27-year-old co-pilot repeats this information which is a little bit bizarre but not too bizarre. they say that that's something that is -- that does happen. the only really bizarre activity that we're noticing from all of this is just the handoff between air traffic controllers from kuala lumpur and who he chi min city, a lot of flight experts would say if i was going to steal an airplane, this is the point where i would do it. >> then there's the transcript of the final minutes. so let's look at this and think about this together. what do you think? the air traffic controller says mh-370, please contact ho chi minh city 120.9, good night. then the plane says right back, all right, good night. there's been a lot of speculation as to whether that had some significance, that good night meant good-bye, that they were beginning their turn at

that point into oblivion. some believe at this point. and so what do you think about that at this point? >> because that's -- that's precisely -- i mean, we heard that all, good night, then we heard the pivot point away from vietnamese air space where if you are worried or want to avoid radar from vietnamese air space you would have made that pivot point right there before they could have picked you up using their systems. but of course some of the translations may not be exact given the fact that mandarin, version of chinese language transcript. was it just a good night. it was 1:00 in the morning. >> the thing that bothers me and it's bothering a lot of americans, we thought we had this problem solved. 12 years of changing the way we do airline transportation in the world really. now we learn you can turn off the trans ponders. now we learn that the cockpit recordings only go for two hours. now we learn that only the black box may give us the clues here, that there's no real time

transmission, peter. >> this is something you're an expert in, clayton, in terms of there is an ability based on the technology for the world to know exactly where every plane is at any time in the world if folks will pay for it. >> we can track our cell phones. we can track with gps in our cars. has technology failed us? >> we're looking into an expert who has satellite technology for tracking airplanes. >> yes. >> why in the world are we relying on this out of date old technology that has failed us repeated repeatedly. it's remarkable that we're using that. we have some other stories making news. headlines. while you were sleeping, a ball of fire lights up the night sky after a home explodes in south carolina. the explosion reportedly felt as far as ten miles away. police scanners picked up the chaotic calls that came pouring in. >> whatever that was, it just shook the whole home. >> they felt it in kershaw. they think it's an earthquake.

>> there's a fire on cane mill. the house is fully involved. >> it's unclear if anyone was at home at the time or if there were any injuries. no word on the cause. check out those pictures. also new overnight, north korea launches an arsenal of short range rockets. the move in response to ongoing military drills between the united states and south koreae drills are preparation for an inbe vags. the missiles flew about 40 miles before crashing into the sea. a man who crashed his car through an entrance gate at the maxville air force base in tampa has been caught. police conducted a ground and air search after the suspect got out of his car and escaped on foot. the base was on lockdown. they had attempted to stop the man before the crash. he was able to get away. his identity has not yet been released. this morning, a big reward being offered for any clues as to where the money stolen from the stave at joel osee's houston

megachurch is. the church willing to put out some $25 million all to find $600,000 in checks and cash taken earlier this month. credit card vouchers also stolen. church officials say member information was not compromised. anna we just got breaking news right now. according to a press conference, malaysian officials holding it right now. they say the chinese satellite have picked up an object that they are now about to investigate. so we'll bring you the very latest on that. chinese satellite spotted an object in the southern corridor down there near the australian zone, what they're looking at. they'll send a ship to investigate. we'll bring you the latest as that comes available. >> very interesting. >> let's get over to rick reichmuth who's over there. >> that would be good information. not a completely other spot that they'll have to scramble to get to. we had the big storm a couple of

days ago. then we had two days of good weather for the plane search. the next storm is heading in. by the next cycle, next daylight cycle, we'll see this storm move on in there and that's going to bring more rain, more wind, more cloud cover. that makes it more difficult for them to see. we get a little bit of clearing, very briefly, before the next storm moves in. the next number of days across this area are looking more stormy for them unfortunately. back across our area of weather, take a look at that. there's cold air across the far northern plains. get ready because it's coming back for almost everybody across the eastern seaboard. enjoy today. this is spectacular. this is a clipper system moving through bringing snow across the northern great lakes and across upstate new york and far northern parts of new england. the rest of us will see a little bit of rain. behind it, that's where the cold air is going to start to dive in. this sets the stage for a tuesday/wednesday storm across the east coast and it's a very strong nor'easter type storm.

>> well, february the 18th we went in for a radiation treatment and that was -- we did one radiation treatment and the second -- then on tuesday we started the radiation treatment, i gowned up, went to start to do the radiation treatment. they came and got me and they says, we cannot do the treatment because your insurance does not cover chemo. and so i put my clothes back on, we went to an office and where we talked about how we could pay for this. everything that we had done prior to this had failed because our income is a little bit too high. so, we -- they -- they sent me home. as soon as we got home we got online to healthcare.gov. we found some insurance there. it was a gold plan. we qualified for $800 tax credit. we took 500 of that tax credit

and applied it to the $1310 payment that we made in the gold plan of our health care, which brought it down to 810, $815. >> so you've signed up for obamacare but at the same time you've amassed about $50,000 in debt for stuff that hasn't been covered, correct? >> that is correct. the insurance that we did have was not -- was not a good insurance, i would say this. because when we -- in 2013 i had a heart attack in 2005 and in 2013 we tried to get insurance but because of the pre-conditions, no one would take us. my wife had insurance before we left lasalle, illinois, with a company. when we went to centerville we had to get our own insurance. i'm not an insurance guru -- >> no, but one of the things you've said, pastor, i find it very compelling, your life is

advice on how to cope with all of these issues. good morning to you. >> hi. thanks for having me, anna. >> it's actually going to be packing a bigger punch. all of this snow that we've gotten is going to make mold allergy sufferers suffer. >> yeah, and the extra moisture in the soil, trees are really prime to produce pollen. mold is going to grow faster than ever. people with allergies will really have a tough time this season. >> packing a big punch. let's talk about what we can do about it. first thing you say we can switch our allergy medication. why do we need to do that? >> midway through allergy season a lot of times your body can develop a tolerance. take a two-week break if you find your allergy medicine was not as effective as it was is really important. you don't have to stop your treatments completely. switch from a pill to a nasal spray. after the two weeks are over, switch back. >> not necessarily switching from what you had the year

the new image shows an object measuring some 72 feet long and 98 feet wide. at this hour ships are being sent to that area to investigate. >> and based on those dimensions, that does not appear at first thought to be something that's fallen off a cargo ship. >> right. >> there was a discussion before, well, it could have been a container that had come off a cargo ship. >> right. >> something with that dimension of 98 feet wide -- >> it's hard to wrap your head around these dimensions. think about the north carolina light house, cape hat terraterat house. 98 feet wide. an aircraft is not that wide. whatever it is, the satellites are looking at this now. >> yeah, you know, the other thing that comes to mind, is this offering any sort of false hope. we're searching and groping and everyone is, especially the relatives of the 239 passengers

that were on board this missing jet. >> what we'll do, soon our producers will look at the wing-to-wing point of that aircraft of the 777 and see what that is. >> right. >> that could be consistent. >> it could be, but we've had other things. the oil slick that we thought just a couple days out may have been from this. everything has come up backing up against the wall. >> so, again, this just coming in from the malaysian press conference a few minutes ago. chinese satellite imagery has seen this. we'll have much more on this as the morning unfolds. >> yes, we will. we have more. just days before the signup deadline a new glitch causing major problems on the obamacare website. the bug is giving thousands of people the wrong information about whether they qualify for premium subsidies. the problem is, the website's income calculate who are is using 2014 poverty guidelines but the law states it should be using 2013 guidelines. the results, some people are

chance when they can go out 12 hours from now, they'll see bigger cloud cover and storms. time zone wise, perth, australia, the tone here is exactly 12 hours away from the east coast of the u.s. so it's just a complete night and day difference from that area. but they've had clear skies for a couple of days and that, again, is about to change. back towards the u.s., temperature wise we have cold air still in place and this cold air is going to make its way back down across parts of the central plains and parts of the east. enjoy the east coast. it is going to feel like spring for a lot of people down across areas of the south. allergies kicking up as well. we're going to see this system, this little clipper move through and behind it the cold air starts to filter in once again for pretty much everybody across the east coast. this is what the radar looks like. some spotty storms, isolated severe storms from parts of east texas down throughout the south. we have not had much severe weather at all. all of these cold temperatures

search operation that has been delivered by the australians, and really in hospital area and it's uncovered nothing. in fact, the p-8 poseidon saw a freighter and saw a couple of pods of dolphins and they were what were coming up on the satellite imagery. it's sad that nothing has been found but we need to guard against jumping to conclusions early. what we need to do now is identify where that location is. we need to give it to the appropriate authorities. we need to cee lo guess stickically how easy or hard it is to get out there. the last part of your question talked about -- i was talking to anna about it earlier, is just how difficult it is to launch a search operation in that inhospitable area. it's 1500 miles off the southwestern -- >> and the oth making, it's ten hours back and forth and only two or three hours in actual search. >> yeah. the australians have a couple of very good assets to achieve the

first situation. they have the p-3. the problem is, it's got 13 hours' endurance. that may sound like a lot of flying time, and actually it is, but when you have to travel five hours out to the location and then five hours back, that's ten hours. you've got two to three hours of loiter on scene. when the weather comes down, it's a nightmare. you have rain, drizzle, the visibility comes in to 2 to 5 k. if you're trying to search an area of 125,000 square miles, that's a long time. >> some of the things we're trying to rule out, will this be a shipping container that might have fallen off a ship? if you're looking at the largest shipping carriers, the largest is 39 feet. this is about 74 feet according to the malaysian officials. so the largest shipping containers might be able to rule

out that it's a shipping container floating in the ocean. steel wouldn't be floating unless there were something inside of it. what else have you experienced that they may be looking at right now saying, oh, that's probably what it is? might not be an aircraft? >> again, i don't mean to be too cautious in my analysis but, you know, a shipping container that goes over the site of a freighter. it could be partially submerged. it could be a little bit of a corner of it sticking out. >> sure. >> when you get a satellite image you could get refraction from light. it's hard to corroborate the dimensions of a piece of something that a satellite is looking at without getting overhead of the target. what i would say is some of the ee equipment on these are phenomenal. you have something like a mag, it detects images like big lumps of metal, submarine. a container would come up on that equipment. there's nothing more important than the human eyeball. >> michael, we should mention,

we got a bit of breaking news on this, too. they are saying the images are from the southern indian ocean. these images of this object that the chinese satellites, southern indian ocean. does that tell you anything? >> the southern indian ocean, it's a huge place, but the area that the australians have been looking in in the past three days is in the southern indian ocean. >> on the screen right now. >> again, what we have to do, i've been sort of talking about this all week, let's not put all our eggs in one basket in terms of waiting for corroboration of evidence to link this to potentially malaysia 370. what we need to be doing is look at the arc of what this potential search engine could be. if we go back to the last trans ponder trace in the south china sea and then we draw a line down to where this wreckage has potentially been found, is it possible even for the aircraft to have reached that in terms of the endurance of the boeing plane? if that is the case, then what

>> david piper joins us now live from thailand with more information. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning. that announcement was made in dramatic fashion the acting transport minister from malaysia was slipped a note from the chinese saying that they had seen an object on satellite and they are now investigating it, according to the malaysian authorities. the search, though, has been continuing today in the indian ocean and it has actually been extended. two objects photographed back on satellite sunday could have moved, of course, hundreds of miles from there by now. now the first of the australian search planes has now returned and they reported nothing. u.s. navy's p8 poseidon can't fly today because it needs maintenance will be out tomorrow. chinese and japanese planes are joining the search and australian naval vessel should have reached the area by now. five chinese war ships and an

also joining the search. weather is reported to be relatively good today for looking for the missing plane but there's indication the weather could deteriorate over the next week and north of the search area there's a cyclone being reported now. of course, the malaysian authorities say they are still looking in the northern area just in case the plane did go north instead of south. back to you. david, thank you so much for that update. here with more this morning is a former ntsb board member. >> what do you make of the latest revelations from malaysian authorities? >> i hope it's good news. i really hope for the sake of the families that this is a piece of the airplane. >> how often is it likely that we discover things like this along flight paths. should we get our hopes up that this is part of the missing plane or is this common?

>> it's common to find bits and pieces floating because there's lots of things in the airplane and lot of things that people bring into the airplane that floats. what's unusual about these latest sightings is the piece. >> wing to wing, it's about 200 feet. now we're looking at something maybe 43 feet wide. and as clayton pointed out earlier that's a little larger than the largest sea container. what are your thoughts on that? >> well, you know, without more detail you can't zero in on it but that's a big piece of airplane to float, but let's hope and pray that it is an airplane and not just a piece of ocean debris. >> john, what your saying? that typically, when a plane breaks up and falls from the sky or upon crash landing on the water, that plane or huge pieces

a red dot very close to the last one. that in my mind would be good news. also if you go up and compare these two images the first satellite image they took, first started this entire search process there, everything was a little bit grainy. they did not have the satellites aimed at that area but rougher seas. if you throw up the brand new satellite image -- there's the original one. there's a lot of other white stuff that you see there, something harder to see, a reflection, probably some choppier sea, low level clouds, throw up the new one, you don't see any of the stuff blocking it. you get a much better idea in that picture that there's something very specific in that location and since it is very close to the other location that we saw, in my mind, guys, that would be good news and obviously now the satellite is pointed in that area and getting better pictures and they have all the other equipment going like the radio sounds to get an image of that. >> the storm is coming. >> that will make things more

difficult. right behind this one there's another storm on its shores. in 12 hours or so when they start this next search process they will be dealing with some bad weather. united states will have that p8 out there which supposedly can find something the size of a basketball which is quite incredible. the united states has spent $2.5 million on this. this certainly is adding up. >> we'll have a little bit of a debate about that later in the show. some aviation experts say it's time to call off this search. we'll ask some other experts. is it nearing the time where you want to call it off. we have some other stories making headlines. ukraine braces for all out war. reports indicate russian forces covered the entire ukrainian border. ukrainian troops are dug in waiting to see what happens next. despite this the obama administration still saying there's a diplomatic solution to the crisis. this as overnight russia accepts

china has a satellite image of a possible object in the indian ocean. former united kingdom minister of defense michael kay. what's the story on this. should we have our hopes up, hopes down? give us the skinny on this, michael. >> look, the leads we have are minimal for this whole investigation so anything like this that manifest itself is definitely good news in terms of it's an opportunity to investigate. we had hardly any opportunity to investigate any leads whatsoever. so this is encouraging. but, again, as i've already mentioned guarding it with a little bit of caution. >> chinese seem to be stipulation and the world perception is they haven't stepped up. the united states has been stepping in now. is this pr, or is this something real? should information of this type be released at this point? >> i think that's a great question. looking at it more broadly, 26

countries involved at the last count in this investigation. there's a lot of inconsistencies and at the diplomatic level there's a lot of inconsistencies. for example if you look at the radar traces between thailand, malaysia and indonesia, thailand or malaysia said they may have saw something in the malacca strait. indonesia say they saw absolutely nothing. then you mentioned china as well. 159 passengers on this aircraft out of 239. that's a significant proportion. so you would expect china to be more forthcoming in not only their search efforts but contributing financially and just sort of offering up more the intelligence and diplomatic levers that it could and we know it has. so i think this information coming from china is a good thing. again, you look at chinese satellites. china is always launching satellites in to orbit. in terms of the amount of satellites that's gone up there

that's good news. the resolution of the satellite, we talk about the inmarsat satellite. so to look at the indian ocean will be limited. >> this is one of the best pictures we've seen. what do you make of the area in the region. this is the third object found not too far from those other two objects in the indian ocean. how far is this as a pilot from the flight path area that commercial airlines would take in that general direction? how far away from that is it? it a no man's land. >> it's a no man's land. the last three or four days has proven how inaccessible the area is. the good news is that logistics operation that will have taken a little bit of time to get into place will now be set up. crews will be in place. you have to rotate the crews

around the sleep pattern. aircraft will be based in perth and used to fly out to the area and procedures that are involved. rick pointed out earlier on it wasn't too far away from the area we've been looking. hopefully it won't take too much time to corroborate. >> it's 120 kilometers south. >> okay. >> would that be consistent of currents moving? >> i couldn't say whether it's consistent with currents but in terms of flying time. >> let's bring rick in. >> just a quick calculation shows this is roughly around 60 miles away from the original image that came out last week. seven days old from the last image. this new image that has come out, 60, 65 miles away from that original image. >> still in no man's land. i'm fascinated about the transponder. we had the former ntsb official on earlier and the range where you need to get up close if

there was a ping from the black box. few short miles to pick up that signal. and a cyclone could be hitting that area. >> there's a lot of misinformation on the transponder. i used to command the sort of top gun equivalent of helicopters in uk. there's this big misnomer on transatlantic ocean flights you can pick up transponder. it gives key pieces of information. however, that only has a range of about 200 miles. once i want goes past 200 miles it drops off. if you're traveling from london to new york after 200 miles from london, you won get a second radar trace. they have synthetic air picture. it's built up from height. >> what isdeconflection.

previous situations, the debris field who knows how big it is at this point. will we get more pictures in this morning? >> it is hard to say. we won't know until we get more images. they have every single imaging satellite on the planet looking at the area. i imagine the other satellites are going to be looking at this same image, trying replicate it and also compare it -- also enter the area around if anything else. >> let's talk about when you just mentioned the difference between a floating object and a debris field. what's the difference? what's the significance? >> well, debris field is a lot of floating objects. of course there was a heavy seas the other day that ships and aircraft couldn't go through. whatever survived that storm, evidently, you know, was able to

still float and be tossed about. and spread out further. so we're starting to get into the winter season and more and more storms in that area. so it's going to be more difficult -- time the running out. more difficult for these guys to fly. more dangerous for the air crew to keep flying in that area. the detail risk in those sorties the other day. >> this image is about a day old from chinese authorities. you see an image like this. you fly to that area. how common is it that the object is even found after you get an image like this? >> it's hard to say. after the image we got the other day, that was taken on the 16th, they had several aircraft out

there. they couldn't find a thing. we just don't know. >> they couldn't find a thing. can you say for certain judging from this picture as an expert, is this definitely an object that is 70 feet long by 40 feet wide or could this just be a glare coming off of a huge wave that happens to be out there or something else that we can't even think of? >> doesn't look like it's obviously something. maybe it's the same exact thing as the other one. it's hard to tell without doing more detailed analysis. if they have other satellites to take a second look, maybe look in stereo you can get a better idea as to the size and shape of it and compare the track of the storm that went through and see whether this thing pushed in the right direction from where it was located, if it's the same exact object and just moved.

debris six days ago, here's the thought. general ocean current moves in this counterclockwise fashion across the indian ocean. that would make you think the debris would float towards australia. that's underwater ocean current. we have this other map i want to pop up and give you and idea, maybe take that full image of that if you can for a second. this is the surface currents. it's not nearly as clear of that same kind of pattern. the overall pattern moves counterclockwise but on the surface because of the storms you get edies and surface currents that get caught into these circular patterns. this debris they found is to the southwest of where those initial pictures were taken. and because of the current you would think it should be moving closer to australia but possibly on the surface something gets caught up into one of those edies and pulled backward or

good saturday morning, everyone. you're looking at new images this morning just released of possibly -- possibly -- of the missing malaysian airlines flight 370. >> well, a third object pictured here, you just saw, has been spotted possibly belonging to missing flight 370. >> and david piper joins us live from bangkok, thailand, with more on this new information. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning. yes, the malaysian authorities say china has now informed them that one of their satellites has spotted a large object in the southern indian ocean. >> the chinese investigator received satellite image of floating object in the southern corridor, and they will be sending ships to verify. the beijing government announce this in a couple of hours. this is 22 meters long and 30 meters wide. >> reporter: so the figures have since been adjusted to the equivalent of 74 foot long and

about 43 foot wide. those pictures were taken back on tuesday, but have only just been released. chinese media is also reporting that this latest object was under 100 miles from those earlier objects sighted by satellite. meanwhile, they have widened the search area in the southern indian ocean today after nothing was found yesterday. the first of the australian search planes has now returned and wasn't able to find the two large objects photographed back on sunday. the u.s. navy's p-8 poseidon advanced search plane can't fly today because it needs maintenance. it will return sunday. the u.s. has sent up a p-3 orion today, though. chinese and japanese planes are also joining the search, and an australian naval vessel should have reached the area now. two merchant vessels have been helping all day with the search. and five chinese warships and an ice breaker are now steaming towards the location of that original search area. but, of course, the malaysian authorities are also continuing to look in that northern arc

it doesn't seem like putin cares about his supporters. what should we be doing? >> we need to look at this long term, not short term. the bigger question is, what should we have been doing for the past five and a half years as a country in our relationship with russia? we were going to have this reset, a button, all the symbolism that was a bust anyway. the fact is, putin has come to figure that the united states is not a country that he has to be afraid of. it's not a country he has to believe that they mean anything when they say it. and like a parent who says, i'm going to come up there, if you don't turn that stereo, i'm going to come up there. and the kid knows the parent is never coming up there. and he blasts the stereo all night. that's putin and the united states. >> for the first time today, after many, many months, there seems to be a glint of recognition, if not concern, bordering on fear, that the 20,000 russian troops that are massing on the ukraine border may be there for more than spring cleaning.

>> they very well may be. now, let's look at it from putin's perspective. in his mind, he has his interests to think about. he has a vested interest in crimea and that warm water seaport. that's very important, not just to his ego. that's important to him militarily. when he sees what's going on in kiev and the whole place blowing up and burning up and the government in collapse, and he's thinking, i'm not sure i can believe that that government is going to keep that area that is vital to me safe, secure, and in my best interests, i think what he says is, and who's gonna stop me? he goes down and he secures a military asset that is incredibly valuable to him. >> who will stop him in the ukraine if he decides he wants to take it? will the united states? will nato? >> probably not. look, there is no appetite anywhere in europe and certainly not in the united states for us to get into a war. and so far, about the best we've done is said, if he doesn't stop this, we're going to send him a very strongly worded letter, and

you look at this picture, the two of you look at this picture here, is it almost an out-of-body experience for you? >> it really is. it's something that was so intense, in the moment, and now it just seems like it didn't even happen to us personally. >> okay. so then what happens? you put the mattress down. i mean, how did you react? take me through that, jenny. did you put the mattress down and watch the little boy tumble out of the window? >> he had one leg out and conrad thought quickly and put the mattress down. he stood there waiting to catch him. and as soon as his second leg went over the windowsill, i called 911 and just kept the operators informed. conrad just stayed there and stayed calm, and the little boy reached behind him. he actually kind of hung onto a telephone wire. and then fell. and connor was able to catch him, break his fall and kind of cushion him into the box spring. >> from 30 feet up. >> all right. where were the parents? is he okay? >> yeah, he's completely fine. it's actually amazing.

1,500 miles southwest of perth, australia. so far, searchers have not been able to trace the debris. chinese ships and aircraft going to that area. here now is aviation expert and retired air force colonel dan hampton to make sense of the latest images and the timeframe on this. colonel, nice to have you again this morning. >> good morning. i'm not sure i can make sense of it, but i'll certainly try. >> try for us, because it is a mystery. the mans taken a few days ago. why the malaysian government waited so long to let us see them? just a few hours ago. >> yeah, you know, we have to get over the idea that everybody down there is trying to cooperate. certainly all the western navies are. but malaysia, china, everybody else, they have long -- a long history of hatred. i think they're more interested in politics than they in actually trying to solve this mystery. that said, you know, it's encouraging that these pieces of

wreckage are within the general vicinity of each other. but i still have to point out, number one, none of it's been confirmed by finding a part number or anything on any of the pieces. and number two, there's a lot more stuff floating around in the ocean than most people think. >> colonel, should we be calling this off? a number of aviation experts have come out and said, look, it's time to move on. it's time to to admit the crafts lost at sea. the pentagon saying they spent $2.5 million in this search. that's on the united states' side. >> 2.5 million, compared to, what, the white house's $1.5 million booze budget the other day? no, i don't think it's a lot of money. it would be irresponsible at this point to call it off, because there's still some other options available. it's a very, very deep piece of water out there, as i've said. if they haven't -- if they haven't found any pinging signals, it's because either they're really not in the right

direction -- they're not completely the right location yet, or this thing is below 14,000 feet, which means you're olonel, let's talk about the likelihood, in an engineering sense. we understand that obviously this is a 777, and it's a plane mostly constructed, the jet, of metal. is that going to be debris, or is that going to be going to the bottom of the ocean over this amount of time? >> well, it depends entirely on how the guy crashed the plane into the ocean. if he set it down nearly out of fuel on purpose and landed it that way so there would be a small debris field, which is kind of what it looks like we're seeing, then you may not see something yet. i mean, the stuff that will come off is the stuff that breaks off, like the wings and the horizontal tail and pieces like that, the main parts, the fuselage, is going to sink. if it went straight in, if it went in at high speed, a high angle, it would have broken

apart and there'll be more. still, the heavier pieces are going to sink. >> exactly. lieutenant colonel dan hampton, we thank you for your time today. >> thanks very much. appreciate it. >> we want to bring in our meteorologist, and, rick, you said bad weather could be on the way. one of the biggest issues they're having is the search -- anyway, the transportation to get out there, some five hours, five hours back, only leaving them a couple hours of search time while they're out there, and this is hampering efforts as well. >> about 1,700 miles from perth, which is the only town on the western part of australia for thousands of miles, and they have to fly out to that spot. that's a big problem. they've had clear weather the last couple of days. the latest satellite imagery looks like that. the first images we saw that are now six days old, it appears that there had been more turbulence, more water in some -- the white specks you saw, wave tops, and that's what made it difficult to see. the new image more clearer. you can see there has been high pressure controlling things and things have been calm for the

last couple of days. take a look at this. that's about to go toward right where that is, and we're going to get into a stormy pattern for a couple of days again. take at this one wind image. this is the surface winds, the winds we've got right at the surface of the earth. i think this is on rs3, guys, if you pop that up there. there you go. you can see the green and kind of the slow-moving direction right there. that is very heavy winds moving right into that exact area. there's a little green circle there. that's the location of where that debris field is. they've been pretty calm, but that's all about to change. this is a look at the southern hemisphere of the u.s. there's a bunch of areas of low pressure, storms that continue to move around there, because there's no land mass down across the southern part of the earth there. nothing breaks up those storms. that's why we continue to see the storms. but one is about to get there. so, guys, by tomorrow when they get out there and start flying again, they'll encounter the cloud cover. that means poor eye visibility there and really rough sea conditions and flight conditions, as well. >> bad news there. all right, thanks.

good morning, steven. >> good morning, peter. great to be with you. >> this is incomprehensible to me. we have control and supervision over the internet and internet addresses. we basically created the internet in this country. and so, now the white house is saying we're going to give it up. why are we doing that? and what effect will it have on us as americans? >> well, i wish i had a good answer for why we would be doing this in the sense of what benefit we get. i can't even answer the question of what problem it intends to solve. no one has presented any evidence that the american tenure over this kind of a service -- or supervision over this type of service has created problems. quite to the contrary, tremendous prosperity and growth all around the world. and it's one of the sort of last -- last areas of freedom when you have people struggling to against tyranny to have free access to information over the internet. this idea that we turn it over to an ill-defined international community is completely misguided to me. >> is it my understanding, is it

correct that russia and china have been pushing for some say as to the use and control of the international internet? and if that's true, a couple of the most oppressive regimes in the world, what right do they have to touch our internet in this country? >> this is the risk. if it goes in the direction of the international community, what would that mean? usually it means it's gravitating toward the united nations where russia and china have dominant influence courtesy of the seats on the security council. china and russia are also the two leading perpetrators of cyber crimes. so if you think of this notion of moving the phonebook and directory, or, if you will, the license plates and gps signaling of all telecommunications that go over the internet, including this live shot, you can think of the range of areas that mischief could be caused by country that have an interest in controlling information at home and interfering with ours. >> in terms of mischief and as a final question, we have a few

certainly, it's a big challenge for the nation's veterans. they're dealing with the fast-changing hiring process. gone are the days of dropping off the resume. joining me now is army reserve officer david simpson. he went through that process and he got hired. welcome and good morning. >> thank you. i want to talk about the virtual career, but overall, what was the process like when you are looking for a full-time job, in the corporate world, how did you take those military skills and explain them to companies? >> honestly, it was pretty difficult at first. you think about the differing roles and the versatility you play in the military. and what you have to do is look for key words like leadership. . development and performance. you have to take the things you do in your military career and focus them towards the corporate workplace. >> and when you finally got to the virtual career fair, what was that like? i never had anybody on the show who's actually done the virtual career fair. what was it like? were you sitting at your

computer? >> yes. for me, honestly, i didn't know what to expect. i suited up, and then set in my recliner at home. i was sitting at home in my recliner, suited up, going into this career chat virtual person, welcoming me to the career chat. essentially, it was booths you go through and you get to chat with >> we're in if a place in our nation right now where the unemployment rate for veterans is 9.2% since 9/11. it's 6.7% for the rest of the country. when you talk to other veterans, are they struggling to find work? what do they tell you is the hardest part as well? some. >> yes, i think it is a struggle. they have trouble relating their military experience to the workplace, and so a lot of trouble for them is how to convince their military resumé and tailor it towards whatever position they're applying for. if they have only military experience, they have 10, 15, 20 years of military experience.

how do you fit that on one or two pages. >> how is it different now that you're in the rorp rat world. you got a job at verizon. verizon hired you. how has it been working for a company versus working for the military. how different is snit. >> it's a lot different because of what you can say and how you treat that. in the military, you still all have your roles. there's a structured sort of leadership that you have to comply with. it's been amazing transition for me. >> real quick, any advice for veterans? >> i would say to make sure your resumé and cover letter is ready. >> congratulations. started at verizon in january of this year. keep us posted on how you're doing. i want to let everybody know there's another career fair coming up next thursday at 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. eastern time. david got a job there, clayton. other veterans can sign up.

>> well, a possible breakthrough. china announced one satellite did spot a large object in the indian ocean. and it's now released an image of the object. the photos were taken, though, back on tuesday, but only released today. the malaysian authorities say china is sending ships to the area. >> the chinese ambassador received satellite image of floating object in the corridor. they will be sending ships to verify. the beijing government can announce this in a few hours. the object is 75 miles from where two objects were sited. that's nearly 2,000 miles southwest of pert, australia. they have widen the search area in the southern ind yags ocean after they found nothing yesterday, despite a lot of searching. not of the search claims today

admittedly. what we do know in terms of the sequence of events that took place on the flight path. you had the cars going down 14 minutes later. the transponders being manually turned off. the senator just the other night on this network confirmed that, and we now know from reports overnight that the handoff between the initial air traffic controller and the vietnamese air traffic controller was seamless and right after that handoff was supposed to have occurred, the transponders were turned off, the plane went dark. that's circumstantial evidence that human involvement caused this plane to veer offcourse, which tells me it was a hijacking. the fact that nothing else in the air control communications, that tells me there wases no anybody trying to take over the plane. >> it's a good reminder that

there's still a criminal investigation going on. and you mentioned some of the weather patterns. rik is tracking those storms out there. and it's a scary situation for investigators out there, right? >> yes, it is. i want to clarify one thing. the guest was talking about a cyclone. in the u.s. we think tropical cyclone, a big gigantic storm. in this part of the world, a cyclone means an area of low pressure, a general storm. there is a storm headed into the area. it's not a hurricane type event. but there are going to be big waves so in there in short order. they're going to be under the next storm moving into if area. we were just talking about satellite imagery and how this is accumulating and how they get it. and a lot of people have asked we always hear the stories that you can pinpoint a license plate, read a license plate from satellite imagery.

it's not the case. if you have a rumba. >> sure. it cleans my floors. >> it moves in a straightline until it hits something and then diverts and goes another drex. it keeps the line clean. that's all it's doing. satellites around the globe continue in the straight path doing multiple sweeps. multiple satellites are going in different orbits around the earth in different directions and different speeds. all of those get together and do a patch work to create what we see as a satellite image. we see very close images because we have radars taking the imagery all the time. on a satellite imhaj it's not extremely clear. the pictures are not taken as clearly or as often. also across the southern part of the world, there hasn't been a reason to have satellites with high degree of resolutions across the area.

it takes a while to get satellites repositioned to look at this. maybe that's one reason the new satellite image is more clear. >> so it could be the result of several satellites being brought together to create one image. >> yes. and generally it is. this is probably one image they got. there could be clouds there so they're not getting an image of what's on the earth. with the last image you could see the seas were choppier. possibly more clouds. t this image is much more clear. we've had clear can skies. in my mind it would be encouraging that it's very close to the other locations. we're probably 60 miles from this. now a new one from yesterday, just around 60 miles from the same spot. certainly encouraging.

images? >> it's the latter, peter. it's the time it takes to go through all of the data, analyze it, find the objects in it, determine if they're relevant or not, and then start moving it forward. earlier rick was talking about the zumba or a vacuum cleaner thing. think about a vacuum cleaner that's pending on the camera might be recording a swath of earth 200 or 400 miles across doing thousands of miles an hour. you get an idea of how many of the earth's surface the satellites are collecting today. it's far more data than will ever be analyzed. there's not enough human beings to do that. >> i'm thinking back to the 1960s cuban missile crisis, looking at the spy plane photograph that took fraorever. are we talking about something similar here to comb through all

of that data to find a needle in a hay stack? >> you do have to comb through there now. today because the imagery is digital. there are computer al -- that are worthy of human attention. it's still a laborious process. and consider this data is three days old. this is only three days after the first imagery, and it's very close given wind and weather down there, it's very close to the original find. so it's important we get somebody out there and i.d. and mark it before we lose sight of it again. >> br it sinks potentiallyover drifts further away. 60 miles west of the two other pieces of debris from the missing jet here. >> right.

i got to ask you. we talked about there still being a criminal investigation. when you see images like this, what can you put together to try to paint a picture, a scenario of what could have possibly happened? >> yeah, there are several scenarios in here. i have almost from the beginning, not at the beginning, but almost from the beginning once became clear that the transponders in the a-cars and some of the other systems were shut down sequentially. i walked into the human cost event. whether it was the air crew or somebody who gained control of the cockpit. given the aircraft for one of the pilots to be out of the cockpit. so you start putting these things together, and then it comes down to the key question. if someone took control of the

airplane, what was the motive? did they want the airplane? did they want the cargo? or did they want to create the mystery of the 21st century? if it's the third one, they took the right place to take this airplane, thinking nobody would ever, ever find it. if that was the scenario, they made a critical mistake. the critical mistake was that the reporting system in the aircraft will flex from vhf to hf trying to communicate. that's the prime directive. i must communicate. they probably left one of the radios on. >> all right. chuck nash, we thank you for your time. yesterday we heard about the cargo being potentially carrying these ion lit yhium bathries wi the laptops that have the ability to overheat and cause fire. we talked about that before.

wind map that we have. if we can throw up the other one, i'll show that treal quick. this is the current wind map across the southern part of the country. off towards the right of your screen, you can see australia. at the bottom you see antarctica. you can also see one green dot there. that's where the location of the debris is. you see so much wind in the area. those are all kinds of storms. if you go up to the left side of the globe there, that's africa, and there's not as much wind. you don't have as many winds and storms that continue in the ongoing pattern on the land mass. you have that across areas of the ocean. now throw up the other map that we can see, this one, and this is the surface ocean currents. there are all kinds of eddies that form because of the wind that comes for the storms. so you could potentially see debris floating in the not

well, this is another huge lead since a plane carrying 239 people went missing two weeks ago, and david piper joins us live from bangkok with more. good morning, david. >> hi, yes. good morning. a possible breakthrough in the search for the missing plane. china announced one of the satellites spotted a large object floating in the southern indian ocean. they have now released an image of that object. it's around 72 foot long and 43 foot wide. the photos were taken on tuesday and only released today.

it was cited 70 miles from where two large objects were found last sunday. that's 200 miles south of australia. they've widened it will search area in the southern indian ocean today. the new advanced l search plane can't fly because it needed maintenance. it will return on sunday, though. an australian naval vessel has made the search area. the weather has been reported to be relatively mild today. in that search area. but this is one of the wildest and remotest areas in the world. and the forecast doesn't look good for the coming week. and a cyclone is to the north and of course, the authorities haven't given um the search in
