4:00 pm
have a great week. we'll see you next fox news sunday. fox urgent. new satellite data from france pointing to a fresh spot of possible debris from that missing jetliner. and it's now monday over a section of the indian ocean where the world's greatest search experts are focused still, and a dangerous mission continues to find flight 370. and the 239 people onboard. americans as well, when it vanished. and the situation couldn't be worse for the planes and the ships right now, and as it has been all weekend long, rough weather in some areas, thick cloud cover all the way down to the surface of the ocean so they can't fly very well because it's almost impossible for them to see. it's pretty much the same general area, the france images i was telling you about, or the
4:01 pm
france data, as the other satellite images we have seen captured recently of a large object, but malaysia's civil air director is stayed tight lipped about this latest discovery. >> what is the object today? >> i think the statement -- >> it doesn't exist if it's not on camera, sir. repeat the statement, if you will. could you repeat the statement? >> i think they just released it. >> what are you trying to hide, sir? >> wow, pretty distrusting of the malaysian officials there. did you see the heat they were throwing at him? what are you hiding? so on and so forth. they have been increasingly under fire for the investigation. we want to point out some of the closed lips we have seen is because they don't make a lot of hay over anything they're finding at this point because they know how much trash is in
4:02 pm
the ocean so they have to get out and figure it out. it's been more than two weeks since the plane vanished. families left to wait, languish, really, in the airport, and the fbi is getting set to analyze a flight simulator. that will happen first start of the week. it was taken from one of the homes of the pilots. mike emanuel is live for us in washington with the latest. and mike, any reaction from key lawmakers so far on this latest satellite data? >> harris, good evening. they seem homeful that the items picked up by the radar or satellites from various countries will lead to serious answers about what happened to malaysia airplanes flight 370. here's the house homeland security chairman's take. >> this is hopeful that now we have the third satellite imagery of debris in this area. and the good news is we can find it through, i think, the area where the debris is so we can get to the black box to finally find out what may have happened in this case.
4:03 pm
>> mccall criticized the mue malaysians saying they spent too much time on the route they could have taken. that wasted a week of precious time when the southern indian ocean should have been the focus, harris. >> wow, wasted time. you hate to hear that. when you talk about resources, you can't get away from the fact the united states has been in such a lead in all of this with our very expensive plane, the p-8 poseidon, the search aircraft that is so special. we're the only ones with it in the air. we're looking at tax dollars. people are curious how much this is costing. >> the last update we got from the pentagon is they have spent $2.5 million of the $4 million they allotted for the search. we should get new numbers in the days uz head, but a former ntsb official says the united states and other countries should spend a lot more now. >> we need a lot more resources than eight airplanes and 20-some ships. i think we need 48 airplanes and
4:04 pm
we need it quick. and i just hope that president obama is getting the right kind of information. we have a fleet of p-3 orions, older than the p-8s, they need to be out there looking. >> if the plane is indeed in the south indian ocean, that is still a massive area and a far corner of the globe. and now lawmakers in this country are ripping malaysia for not being open enough in terms of sharing information with american officials in a timely fashion. harris. >> and mike, i don't know if you caught it, so are the locals in malaysia. they're ripping the malaysian officials as well. very interesting point he's making. we need to put more hardware in the sky and sea, and we know there's a deadline because the black boxes run out of beeping power with battery charge, it's going to make this even tougher. thank you. >> sure. >> more planes and ships joining the search. we know that from that guest mike pointed out, maybe not enough. it's in one of the deepest areas of the indian ocean. joining us is a former ntsb board member who has more than
4:05 pm
30 years of experience in aviation industry. john, you're with us? >> i am. >> this latest data from france, could you explain it to me, because it didn't come with images. what exactly it is? >> it could be radar data. they have radars that essentially take a picture of the earth, digital radar images, not topography, and it will show changes in the surface, especially the water surface. you could tell if there's an object floating that's different from water, different texture than water, different reflective capabilities. so it doesn't matter which means, it's going to show us there's something to look at. >> i want to stay kaunlstrating if we can on this aspect of it and move on to the investigation in a moment. there is a report out there, and our producer has just mailed this to me so i'm going to tell you as i'm learning this. a report that possibly malaysian airlines flight 370 after making a sharp turn over the souths
4:06 pm
china sea, because we know at some point it turned back, that's some of the information we have toward malaysia. during that turn, there's this report that it would have been flying as low as 12,000 feet. how significant would that be? well, that adds two pieces to the puzzle. if it dipped down to 12,000 feet, it may indicate there was a conscious effort of somebody to get down below and get as poor a radar signal as they possibly could, radar return, because the lower you are and far away from the radar antenna, the poorer the signal return is. but it also could mean there may have been a struggle in the cockpit in the transition time and the airplane descended for whatever reason. either way, it would indicate there's a human being involved, not automation. >> interesting. also at that point, i would imagine, you wouldn't have a need for deprrshization of the cabin, is that correct?
4:07 pm
>> depressurization, 12,000 feet, most people could continue breathing pretty normally. at 12,000 feet, but i don't even see why you would raise that issue because we don't thinkerize arpressurization issue at this point. >> okay, only because when it was pitching up, you know, above 45,000, that's where the conversation went, but now, potentially, and again, fox news has not confirmed this, this is a report we're seeing and we'll do our own journalism to shore this up. let me now turn to the investigation itself, because the ntsb leads the world in its ability to look at these situations and figure out what exactly happened. what role is the united states taking at this point? i know this flight simulator is being looked at this week. >> yeah, we're in a support role. the malaysian government continues to be the lead in this investigation. so we essentially do whatever they ask us to do. so it's their investigation and we support their efforts. >> in terms of the flight
4:08 pm
simulator, what would you be looking at? you have 30 years experience, and this was inside one of the pilot's homes, and they would look at it, apparently some of the files reportedly have been deleted or taken off that flight simulator. they're going to study it. you as an investigator, what would you ask first? >> i would ask them to take a look to see if any of the files they have are any deleted files they could re-create, was there an attempt to plot a direction to the east of where they turned? and avoid radar. at least from the information that's out, that's generally available, it appears this airplane threaded the needle, if you will, between the available radar stations, and your comment a few minutes ago about it dipping down to 12,000 feet, re-enforces that, that they were trying to get away from malaysia without being seen by anybody to get out in the indian ocean.
4:09 pm
>> all right. john, former ntsb board member, joining us tonight, making sense of some of the latest information that's coming in and that report that we'll work to firm up ourselves that the plane may have pitched as low as 12,000 feet as it was turning back towards malaysia. thank you for joining us tonight. >> thank you for having me. fox urgent. tonight, rescuers in washington state are trying to get survivors out. it's this mud slide scene we showed you last night, and now new pictures coming in. a day after the mud carved a devastating trail through a small community north of seattle. three people now confirmed dead and 18 are maszing. we knew there would be a number unaccounted for. they wanted to figure out if there were people inside these homes that were washing across the roads, carried by thick mud, and now we know 18, at least, they are looking for tonight, an entire neighborhood, well, you can see the pictures, gone. authorities say today the thick,
4:10 pm
deep mud has forced rescuers to search for victims now from the air. >> we've got this huge square mile mud flow up there that is basically like quicksand. it's extremely fluid. it's moving. and we suspect there are people out there, but it is far too dangerous to get responders out there on that mud floe. >> ahead, we'll have a live report on the latest efforts to reach those people who may be trapped. plus, a new concern, people living in the area are now facing. and now to a foreign story that involves our nation's foreign policy and our president. the crisis in ukraine has intensified even more. that country is now calling for the release of a top military commander. claiming that that colonel was abducted by pro-russian forces in the violent takeover affa
4:11 pm
ukrainian air force base in crimea. it's not clear whether the troops who smashed their way into the base yesterday were russian military or local pro-russian militia. this is president obama prepared to leave for a high-stakes visit to europe starting with the netherlands, and they're going to talk about nuclear topics while he's there. no doubt this is going to come up. ed henry is already there ahead of the president, and ed, president obama is attending that nuclear security summit, but this conversation at some conversation across the world and will no doubt come up there. >> no doubt, harris. good evening. ukraine will be front and center at this summit. the agenda is changing as we speak. interesting because here in the netherlands, we're just about 1600 miles from crimea, so when the president arrives here in a few hours, he'll be very close to the region. the situation is explosive there. you have 20,000 russian troops right on the ukrainian border.
4:12 pm
nobody really knowing what their intentions are. in fact, the acting foreign minister from ukraine today said he believes the chances of all-out war are now growing, and it's interesting because you'll remember back in the last presidential campaign, president obama laughed off republican mitt romney when he suggested that russia and president putin would be america's number one geopolitical foe. well, today, mitt romney was on cbs lashing out at the president. listen. >> the president's nievty with regards to russia and his faulty judgment about russia's intentions and objectives has led to a number of foreign policy challenges that we face, and unfortunately, not having anticipated russia's intentions, the president wasn't able to shape the kinds of events that may have been able to prevent the kinds of circumstances that you're seeing in ukraine as well as the things you're seeing in syria. >> now, in fairness to the president, just in the last few days you'll remember that he issued a second round of u.s.
4:13 pm
sanctions against russia that appears to be hitting its stock market, its broader economy, so president putin may be feeling a lot of pressure right now, but what mitt romney is trying to do is feed into some of that criticism back home among republicans that the president looks weak on the world stage, harris. >> not just among republicans. if you look at recent polling, can know the washington post had an article about it. americans are saying the president's foreign policy with regard to ukraine, they described it as meh. democrats are pushing back how on this? >> the president's allies were on some of the sunday talk shows pushing back not just on romney but the notion there's a lot of good options for the american president to deal with, as they point out back in 2008, you had then-president bush using military force in iraq and afghanistan, and nonetheless, putin decided to go ahead and invade the republic of georgia. that's why democrat dick durbin today said it's actually putin who looks weak. listen. >> let's call it for what it is.
4:14 pm
here is vladimir putin with a failing soviet franchise and when he can't win the hearts and minds of his neighboring nations, he uses energy extortion, mass gunmen and barbed wire. he's a bully and we've got to call him for what he is. this notion that some sanction is going to stop a former colonel in the kgb from his ambitions of an empire is naive. >> and so shortly after arriving here for this nuclear security summ summit, the president is going to be convening a meeting of the g-7, excluding russia, so it shows you on the sidelines of this, ukraine will be front and center. >> thank you very much. we're coming right back. those litt things still get you.

pictures showing the devastation spanning a square mile. authorities say in person it is much worse. and they're trying to reach the voices, they can hear calling out for help, but they have been forced to turn back last night so they're trying to get back today. at least 18 people, i mentioned this earlier, are still unaccounted for, and now, well, the nearby river is really high at this point. and that is the latest fear in all of this. dominic di natale is live in our west coast newsroom. >> yes, 1 million cubic feet of debris, mud, and timber damming that river now, and it's getting close to berthing its banks and unleashing a dangerously heavy flood, caused by the mud slide near snohomish county in northern washington state. demolished 30 houses when it came down, wiping out two separate communities mid-saturday morning. it happened in seconds, say

update, a search team attempts to locate debris in a disant area of the southernind eye ocean. it's monday there. it's daytime or at least daylight. in the hunt for missing malaysia airlines flight 370, crews are entering a treacherous area of that ocean. very far from land. the time, as you know, we have been reporting is krielcrucial because the plane's black box has diminishing battery power, somewhere between 30 and 50 days, but experts have said it's probably closer to 30. now investigators are looking at satellite data from france. want to make it clear, it's data, some kind of information, but no pictures that we know of. they say it indicates debris in the same area where an object was spotted by other satellites, including our own. australia's prime minister says he believes they're getting close to solving the mystery. >> it's still too early to be definite, but obviously, we have
4:25 pm
now had a number of very credible leads and there is increasing hope, no more than hope, no more than hope, that we might be on the road to discovering what did happen to this ill-fated aircraft. >> roger, grn reporter in sydney, australia, joins us via skype. what can you tell us about the latest french satellite data? >> these are french satellite images, if you call them images. they're really sort of radar echoes, apparently, several days after the chinese and american satellite images. but we don't know a lot about them. to complicate matters, the french sighting is apparently about 150 kilometers north of the existing search area. that means that some ships or airplanes are going to have to be diverted to that area as well to clean that part of the ocean, so again, it's another factor which has to be considered in
4:26 pm
this massive operation, which has taken on a huge international dimension now with many ships and many airplanes in the area. >> you know, last night, the big weorry was all of the weather that was remnants of the typhoon north of the search area. what is the weather like at this point? >> not too bad for the past 48 hours, although there was a bit of fog around yesterday. but the forecast for the next day or two isn't very good. they say there's more wind, rain, clouds, fog in the area, expected. and australia's deputy prime minister went on the air here a couple hours ago to say that the weather is likely to deteriorate today and that could further hinder the search operation. we have about ten planes out there, or expected to fly out there today, including two massive chinese allusions and
4:27 pm
two japanese p-3 orions. everything is thrown at the search in the hope we can get some kind of contact with this debris. >> roger, grn, thank you very much. we appreciate the report. and now we ask on this fourth anniversary of the affordable care act/obamacare, how is it working for americans? i'm just finding this out. we're going to see a flurry of radio interviews this week, apparently before the president left for the netherlands, he taped a bunch of stuff. we'll see that also from the vice president, the first lady. all about obamacare, the obama administration hoping for millions of americans to sign up before the last day of march. that's the enrollment deadline. has your view of the affordable care act changed since 2010? how so? and they need americans under 30 to sign up. will they? you chime in and tune in. the fox news political insiders are about to join me. here they come into the studio at home base. tweet your responses.

4:32 pm
on the affordable care act for four years now, and more than 5 million americans have selected plans on the new federal and state marketplaces, but we don't know how many have paid premiums yet, and the clock is ticking because a week from monday, open enrollment ends and the administration is still about 2 million enrollees short of their original target, 7 million. the administration is making an aggressive pr push to court more consumers, but that might not be enough. all this advertising that the government is doing, all that will do is make a bad product fail quicker. it's like bragging about a car that has a broken engine to get you to the destination. in the end, the car isn't going to get you to the deszination. >> in the last four years, the white house has made many changes to the affordable care act without asking congress, and critics say it didn't do any good. >> so many changes by administrative fiat, i don't think the authors no longer know what's in it. you cannot reform 17% of the economy with 900 pages of legislation that nobody has bothered to read.
4:33 pm
>> the president promised on sunday, quote, my administration will spend the fifth year of this law and beyond working to implement and improve on it, and democrats are urging fellow supporters of obamacare to own it. >> the problem for the democrats is they have not been aggressive in saying this is a landmark achievement for the american people, and not being defensive because the critics are so persistent and intense. >> something else we don't know right now, how many consumers are getting covered for the first time. because 5 million americans have selected new plans, but more than 6 million americans received cancellation notices in the last few months. harris. >> peter, thank you. now let's bring in our fox news political insiders. you can join the conversation. and here we are, john lubeaut ley, former republican congressman from new york. pat caddell, a former pollster and fox news contributor, and joining us from tucson, arizona, via satellite, doug schoen,
4:34 pm
former pollster for bill clinton and a fox news contributor as well. good to see you all. quick round the table question for you. what are you going to be doing to observe this fourth year milestone of obamacare. let's start with doug? >> well, harris, i'm out here in tucson working on my own, on my own health and fitness because i just don't understand the preventive care component of obamacare. so i'm using self-help and fighting the inevitable battle against aging. >> your democrat friends will not be looking to you to help sell this. john. >> i just came from a broadway play called all the way about the first year of lbj's presidency and the analogy to our current president and president johnson is striking. where that president, president johnson, was hands on working with both sides, pushing them together to get consensus, to pass what then was unbelievably contentious civil rights legislation, compared to how he did obamacare, which is at the
4:35 pm
root of why it isn't popular in this country, how it was birthed. >> medicare, too, and that worked. >> what are you doing for the fourth year anniversary? >> what i do every anniversary of obamacare, recite what i said the night past, which is this is a crime against democracy and the american people will not assessment it. four years later, the american people still don't accept it and it's still pushed down their throats. >> let's throw up pew polling from just 3 days ago. very recent, and we'll look at this because it points to what you're talking about, how people feel about obamacare right now. 53% of those polled disapprove. that's a large margin, so it's way outside of its highest capability. >> one time off its all-time high. 54 was the highest. >> disproval? >> yeah, in four years. >> after all the advertising, after all the efforts, all the
4:36 pm
mainstream media, after all the lies. every everything, it's still overwhelmingly disapproved of. >> harris, i'm sorry -- >> i was just going to point to another poll. respond to this because the other has to do, under 30. they're putting it up on the screen now. these are the people under 30, this is a category where we know that the president and his administration have said they need to have people sign up to help pay for this whole thing. 47% disapprove. doug? >> yeah, that's what i was going to get to. bottom line with pat and john are saying is absolutely right. the administration had said the more you get to know it, the more you'll like the bill. if anything, the opposite is happening, and they had also premised the entire economic structure on the notion that young people who are mostly healthy would pay for older people's care. and bottom line, with young people not signing up, as the poll data shows, the entire economic foundation of obamacare is at risk. >> all right, i mentioned this before we went to commercial break. the president now, and this is
4:37 pm
just being released, information on all these radio interviews, you talked about the advertising, well, the president, first lady, environment, will start to see that roll out this last week of march ahead of the deadline at the end of the much. so the president's first taping is going on univision tomorrow. it's a radio show called elbeno la mala. >> the good, the bad, and the ugly. >> that summed up obamacare entirely. >> that's the name of the show. >> the reason he's going there is because of support with hispanics, just like we saw with young people. reached its lowest level yet. and that's why he's doing it. but all of these efforts, all of these efforts to say we're going to fix it or whatever, they're not. and we'll get more on that. >> good, bad, ugly. good intent to try to help people. >> right. >> bad implementation from the get go. poorly done. >> ugly policy. >> ugly results, which is, he's
4:38 pm
divided the country. since his election, over this issue. instead of bringing people together, he never even reached out to republican said to work on health care. he blew them off. he controlled the house and senate. he said i don't need them. >> real quickly, minority house member nancy pelosi, and i'm listening to make sure they have this ready to go, said this about obamacare. let's watch. >> from the standpoint of medical electronic records and what that does to improve health of all americans, that the most privileged person in america with all the money and access to quality care that he may or she may have had before, it's better now because we know more about disease because of the bill. we just couldn't be prouder. >> pat, you're laughing. you're laughing so hard. >> the funniest thing ever. >> it's something i have read, but i haven't seen it. this is a woman saying now it's stopping disease. this is a woman who in a moment
4:39 pm
of unbelievable truth said we have to pass obamacare so we can find out what's in it. now she's doing this. now she said we couldn't be -- now it's stopping disease. this is samind boggling disaster, and you know, in the pew poll, and this is one of the things i don't like about polling, is when you write questions to get results like, should we work to improve it? or should we, you know -- >> work to make it fail? >> work to make it fail? how about the common sense answer, which is get rid of this, replace it with something that works and it draws the country together. this thing is an ongoing -- here's the problem politically, democrats like nancy pelosi are stuck on saying we're going to fix it, except they never offer a solution to fix it, and republicans never offer something to replace it. so i'm still waiting for that moment when we reach common sense in this country. so are the american people. >> tommy hunt says on twitter, echoing you, but it puts the ball in the court for republicans. get rid of obamacare full stop,
4:40 pm
