tv Red Eye FOX News April 5, 2014 12:00am-1:01am PDT
12:00 am
leave you tonight with some of the amazing photos taken by the pulitzer prize winning photographer. good night. red eye."ht on "red eye." is darth vader running for congress? the inside story of how he is gaining support, and how the rebel alliance is rallying the youth vote behind a candidate of their own. plus, does the vice president think wearing 10 pairs of underwear at once make you a better public speaker? >> i think there is truth to that because i am. >> what is cuter, a baby sloth yawning or drinking milk? it is the fierce debate you won't see on special report. none of these stories on "red eye" tonight. >> i'm andy levy felling in for greg gutfeld. he is most likely at a bar
12:01 am
puffing on an e sig like a huge dork. he will be back on monday. let's welcome our guests. i am here with fox news contributor and self-proclaimed ult gnat nerd girl, jedediah bila. and she was having trouble coming up with an intro so i let it slide. don't tell greg. it is joe app. and buck sexton on blaze tv and not to be confused with tong becksox. and next to me is tucker carlson. editor-in-chief of the daily caller and women's lacrosseen fuse gist. >> big time. >> a story. the lede. that's the first story. >> hi, i would say this is greg, but no one ever does. >> should prop eight seal his fate? ike is out. ce on o brendan eke resigns
12:02 am
after he was appointed over his opposition to gay marriage. employees called for these head over a thousand dollar donation he made in 2008 in support of california's ballot initiative to ban gay marriage. and the dating site urminged users to -- urged users to stop using the web browser. he helped start mozilla and said, quote, under the present circumstances, i cannot be an effective leader. as the interim ceo he hired somebody from apple. i believe we have tape of him. >> that's quality control. tucker, you were lieding the calls for ike to resign. are you satisfied? you got your pound of flesh. >> i want to keep to that standard. anyone who opposed gay
12:03 am
marriage in 2008 should not hold significant public office. that would include hillary clinton. unlike ike who never said word one about it until this was revealed. unlike him hillary clinton was out there against gay marriage in 2 008. the vice president voted for the defensive marriage act. if you are holding to that standard like everybody is guilty, we should remember that. >> i believe our alleged president would beagle tee of that. would be guilty of that. >> they apologized for making ike ceo in the first place. our culture of openness extends to encouraging staff to shareç their beliefs and opinions in public. then why was he forced to resign? >> they acted leak he was discriminating against gay people. it would be one thing if he was trying to institute policies that discriminated against them. he wasn't doing anything of the sort. he had an opinion like everyone else about an issue. and now this company just told everyone they don't support
12:04 am
diversity of thought. if you don't agree, they can say you are out of here or put leave when, why? he is just expressing his thoughts on something. i don't get it. >> he is the ceo of the company. is it okay he has his own political views? or given the face he is in is there more to it? >> it is okay if we are in this country called america, but it is feeling less and less like that. president barack obama was not just against this in 2008. he was actually saying it was because of his religious belief. he went that next step and said i am a traditional marriage guy. barack obama is so cool that when he engages in homophobic bigotry it is okay. when anybody else does it, they need to be made an example of. that's just the way it is. >> should ike have resigned or stayed? >> he didn't have a choice at this point. i am so con flected. i am a huge supporter in the human rights campaign. i started when i found out
12:05 am
that people could be fired from their jobs or denied a job because of their sexual orientation. he is being denied his job and being fired from his job because of his beliefs. really these human rights advocates should be just as appalled by this as if the tables were turned, don't you think? >> to play on that point, andrew sullivan wrote that he is worried that the lgbt move -- movement is becoming no better than the anti-gay bullies. >> so he said there was no idea there is an intolerance streak. >> hadn't noticed it until today. >> good for him on the one hand. but come on. this has been going on for a longtime. we crossed this line. it wasn't just about tolerating other people's views. it was punishing people for not sharing yours. >> you know, a lot of things can change in six years.
12:06 am
six years ago i voted for obama. i just lost all of my followers. >> i don't know if we can be friends. >> we willed dit that or drop that, right? >> start saying swear words. >> i pledge to sorority six years ago. >> why not come out though and say this is our official position. this is not the company's official position, but we respect the rights of everyone to have an opinion. we are not going to force anybody out because of that. >> here is my take on why people are viewing this differently. both sides are talking past each other. it depends on your mind-set regarding gay marriage. if you believe gay marriage is a civil rights issue similar to something called interracial marriage, then opposing it in your mind is beyond the pale of civilized discourse. if the cio of a company had given a thousand dollars to a proposition that wanted to make interracial marriage
12:07 am
illegal we would not be debating this. the guy would be out of a job and everyone would agree. but if you believe gay marriage is not a civil rights issue on par with something like interracial gay marriage it looks like a witch hunt. you can believe that even if you are pro gay marriage or as you said, if you are in general pro gay rights, but understand -- but believe that people can have differences of opinions as far as gay marriage. you have two people viewing the issue entirely differently and they can't talk to each other. >> they can't really believe that, though. all tens of millions of christians are outside the pale automatically. they are not even worthy of discussion and should have no discussion. >> we are talking about a specific vote in california in 2008 in which the majority of californians voted to ban gay marriage. 70% of black voters voted against gay marriage. >> they have no rights, voice, nothing. >> even if he had really unattractive or unfashionable
12:08 am
views, unless are you actively trying to hurt somebody, you ought to be left alone with your views or given the opportunity to explain. this guy was never afforded the opportunity as far as i know. >> and the people in the company said his behavior suggested inclusiveness. if he voted that way and there was an indication that he wanted policy to affect gay people in a negative way that would be a different conversation. >> i am pro gay marriage, but i know people who are not bigots and homophobes. they believe marriage a is a union between a man and a woman. they might favor the civil unions and they may not favor that. but they want to talk about this in a civil wised way. >> do you know anybody who says i am against gay marriage a? anybody in public life i knew, and yet i have to say they are pushing mooy in the opposite direction. this level of intoll
12:09 am
inteligence is making me think is this really about the right to get married or is it about something else? it is forcing people to con -- conform? >> this will be expanded beyond gay marriage. they will use this for things like the environment. we will all die and drowned unless we vote against climate legislation. you have a table that says support gay marriage. >> i say on both sides of the aisle when you bring up social esh yous there is an inability on both sides to discuss anything with stability. >> i don't disagree with that. >> one down and one solved. should we protect in case they object? it is pc to an awesome degree. a movement afoot on college campuses to force professors to put on trigger warnings. students can skip discussions or books or movies. the idea is for post traumatic stress.
12:10 am
it would carry a trigger warning. some students and professors argue everything should come with a trigger caning. great gatsby, trigger warning. we ask a professor who supports the idea to comment. >> i may have changed my mind. jedediah, trigger warnings a flat out bad idea or a great idea we need more of? >> it is a terrible idea and it is a slippery slope. when you say this trigger rn warning is okay it will be a trigger warning on anything. kids will say we have a right not to study for this test and right not to read this book and a right not to write this paper.
12:11 am
we experienced x, y and z in our lives. we are creating a nation of babies. just because you have gone through something doesn't mean you can't read a literary text. people need to toughen up. >> for example, the wealth of nations you may have to say contains discussions of the importance of free markets. >> first of all that contains discussions of imperialism. we need to get rid of that. the man is all about trading commerce and i am about my ipads and. >> and he talked about the invisible hand. >> where are you? >> it is not in 1984. jedediah is correct, but i want to pretend something else is true. if this was universally applied, it is okay. i remember being in college and people saying stupid left wing things and say that is amazing. as long as they
12:12 am
proposed themselves beforehand. warning, i am about to give you marxist crap, but you have to do it for everybody. there is male patriarcy in here. >> only in owe about -- obama's america am i right? and second question, shouldç obama be impeached? >> it is weird that as the country gets more committed to tolerance it is less tolerance as it is more committed to protecting kids from ugly things the country seems to get uglier and courser. there is a paradox there, no? >> it is like a zen cone. >> tolerance breeds tolerance. >> speaking ofç breeding. when people use anti-bacterial sanitizer and soaps and you are constantly using it. what it does is it builds up stronger bacteria. you are feeding this flame of
12:13 am
intolerance by censoring everything. >> i am meze more rised. >> that's why i never do it. >> everyone you touch is gravely ill. jedediah, there were people on the left now who are saying, hey, this is too much. we have to stop this. >> i think the reason for that is most of the stuff put through ago academia comes through like a left wing funnel. they are afraid their stuff is sensorred as well. there has to be a defender of freedom of speech. if there is a place you can make people uncomfortable with difficult discussions and make them think, i would expect professors to stand up for that. would the debt booy out of her depth? a candidate disked one of the opponents for not attending college and only high school.
12:14 am
he is talking on the nation's debt. >> a high school graduate in this race. these issues are so complex there is one candidate in this race that lived up to the 99 states. how do you breng value to a -- bring value to a debate. what it takes a to come pete in the local economy. >> she admits she never completed her college degree. she shamefully entered the workforce. what a loser. speaking of losers. >> why are people laughing? >> because the elephant didn't go to college. you know who else didn't have a a college degree? george washington? you know who else? abraham lincoln? you know who else? harry truman. you know who else? six other presidents.
12:15 am
>> i would have preferred to go in the steve jobs direction. i don't think washington had anything for him to fill out. >> there were colleges back then. >> he would have had a good time. but this guy first of all this guy went to school and studied management theory. >> mechanical engineer. >> no, it was management theory. >> we will check at the half time. >> do a real show like political science. and then this lady that went to get a job -- this will help so much. he is giving a huge booster. i like her and not the -- i will get bleeped. the bleep guy. >> purdue would have been within his rights to tout his own experiences. he blew this one, especially since handle left home at 17 because it was an abusive home. she left home at 17 and went to work.
12:16 am
>> with good reason. robert we always talking -- aren't we always talking about real life? you have to be working in the free market and you feel the effect of taxes and regulation. we talk about hoe bough ma and he never had real work experience. they had to work and have struggles and their livelihood depends on the ups and downs. >> he was a community organizer. >> you should be saying handle should not be disqualified, but because she is a woman. i find that vaguely sexist. >> she is attractive because she is a woman. by the way, if she was allowing me to not be -- the world is complex and you ought to be on top of it if you are going to govern. it is the mindless credentials that crushes the country that gives teachers a raise who
12:17 am
have a masters degree in education. it has been proven to make you dumber. the more advanced degrees you get the lower your iq drops. i guess we have a reflective respect for credentials. >> is that true? >> no. >> right, there you good. >> people with three lower bumper steekers. >> i believe that. >> there are a lot of dumb teachers with many advanced degrees. >> and unrelated, the more left wing bumper stickers you have on your car. >> people can have a college degree and still know nothing about economics as tucker was saying, right? >> yep. you're looking at her. i am looking at my mrf degree. >> i know what that is.
12:18 am
here is the awful thing. he is unamerican. he is the only one who has lived out of the country. you want so great. you want to leave this great country. >> it is georgia. you don't have to go far. >> i hope she wins and then she throws a party and you are not invited. >> bush dwint have -- bush didn't have a bid. >> you need to play him saying that. >> why not? >> three stories if you are keeping home. three stories up and three stories solved. i spoil all of captain america as punishment for her to be pretending to be a nerd. you won't believe who james fronco tried to get a loan of. you are watching "red eye" on fnc. stick around. ç
12:22 am
does this freak and geek now a creep? it is year 17 of -- this week james franco starred in the worst movie of all time. spring breakers tried to nail chicks using instagram. after meeting a fan in the show he tried to arrange a meeting at the hotel. the girl turned franco down and then posted the entire conversation on-line publicly. franco spoke to the issue. observe, observers. >> you know, i am embarrassed and i guess i am just a model of how social media is
12:23 am
tricky. it is a way people meet each other today. what i have learned and maybe because i am new to it, but you don't know who is on the other end. you meet somebody in person and you get a feel for them, but you don't know who you are talking to. i used bad judgment and i learned my lesson. >> now if only he would apologize for hosting the oscars. for more on the hazards of our digital age let's go to our social media expert. >> that sums up switter. twitter. joanne, franco should have known this would get out. it was embarrassing for him and i don't think he has worked since. >> it wasn't embarrassing for me though. coldcome on, girls, you know
