roll hall of fame induction to ask a very simple question. why are pop stars mostly liberal and country stars mostly conservative? >> already got the fox news feel to it, this interview. >> caution, you are about to enter the no spin zone. the factor begins right now. ♪ ♪ >> hi, i'm bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us tonight. will president obama stop putin? that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. it is now becoming clear that russia will try to seize part of ukraine an independent country. already there has been violence as russian military people in unmarked uniforms are seizing property in that country. the ukrainian government desperately asking the west to help, but so far the response has been timid, to say the least. yesterday, senator john mccain said this: >> we ought it to at least, for god's sake.

give them some weapons, light weapons with which to defend themselves. so far this administration has not only not done that but they won't even share some intelligence with the ukrainian government. i can tell from you my conversations with people in the government, they feel abandoned by us. and rightfully so. this is shameful. >> now, tomorrow we have senator mccain on the factor. he is in eastern europe right now. talking points well understands that president obama does not want a military engagement with russia because he knows our ally also not back him um. therefore, little is eickly to happen to putin and he knows it. if tough sanctions are imposed and they should have already been, he will tough it out. believing the west will not enforce those sanctions. there is no question that putin is a villain, is he violating international law and everybody knows it. there is no controversy about this. russia wants to seize as much as ukraine as it can it doesn't really care about world opinion. it's interesting to note that public opinion in

america is pretty much nonexistent. as many of us get set to celebrate easter and passover, the level of search over ukraine is paltry. putin knows that as well. and he also knows that the american public is largely apathetic about what happens to eastern europe, the same thing can be said for western europeans, they simply don't care. once again, the situation mirrors what hitler did in the 1930s, same game plan. back then the west did not want a confrontation with the brutal nazi dictator and allowed him to run rampant. nearly 75 years later we are looking at a similar situation with putin. the only question that remains is how crazy is this guy? clearly doesn't care about the law or human right or democracy. as putin grows in power, literally anything could happen. eastern european nations like the baltic states, moldova and even poland very worried they know the u.s.a. is a paper tiger. that's where we are at.

which hitler didn't have, that he would go beyond the ukraine. the second thing is i think the obama administration has been pretty strong here. the cia director has been in ukraine. as you know samantha powers at the u.n. has subpoena out i'm almost stunned. you think that president obama has been strong in confronted putin over seizure of crimea and violence in ukraine. i think the president has been strong. is that what you are telling the audience here. >> he has been rational and strong and very clear that he does not want putin is ukraine and is he willing to use strong sanctions and he has angela merkel, the german chancellor now on the same page saying she is willing to suffer damage to her economy to support the united states and send a message to putin. >> will, you are taking the optimistic viewpoint. what do you say? >> i'm less sunny and

optimistic. i don't think they have a view. the battle gets lost when at the beginning of the obama determine sending the message that hey we are not going. >> you are never going to got liberals to recommend it. that's part of what loses your credibility. are stupid with actions that are not great. partly because we have frittered away credibility in the past that would be useful now. you can ramp up those missile defense systems again. that's very costly and maybe not as effective as it would have been having them in the first place. that's just a symbol of how he operates on this. >> this really doesn't advance the story very much. here is something that will. the united states sent a warship to the black sea. and today, a russian plane buzzed it nine times.

congress. president obama's policies have largely failed. if you look at all of them together, all right. now, it is still jump ball over obamacare, but you see what putin is doing. we just covered it you see, you know, trouble almost everywhere. the economy is not >> you see trouble almost every . wages continue to go down after six years. so, in order to object secure that, it becomes personal. so holder and the president making it personal, so is the democratic party. war on women. you remember are are getting hosed. hispanics getting hosed. black people they don't like us because we are black. i'm saying this could be effective. this could work. >> it works very effectively if you don't really analyze the situation. >> how many people will do that? how many of the folks and the voters will do that? >> i think they actually can do it if they realize that they're being manipulated. the fact of the matter is, you are going to have deep clashes with the two

categories of people that i just described and to ascribe those cashes so something as superficial as race means that you are not investing much in the way of analysis. overall big problem that's going on in our nation. you can't oppose anything that a progressive black person is doing if you are white without being called a racist. you can't oppose abortion on demand without being called antiwoman. you can't uphold traditional marriage without being called homophobe bic. you know, this is really a state of sadness, immaturity, and i think the solution to it is for the people to become much more sophisticated in their analysis and not simply accept what the manipulators are trying to pull over. >> that's optimistic. >> it's happening. >> holder goes to the national action network, okay?

still 85% of african-americans think president obama is doing a good job. i mean, his overall approval rating is 40%. but then you go into the african-american community it's it 85%. it just seems to me like they know, they being the democratic party, they know where the votes are for them and they're going to do whatever they have to do to motivate these people though come out in november. >> i would not give up on them. there is a lot more analysis going on than we might think. i think sometimes respond to polls the way they think they are supposed to respond. >> okay. now, will you -- were you personally as an african-american offended by what attorney general holder said? i think he generallily believes. generally indignant in a a white congressman called him out on the contempt and he adescribes it to race. you know i was a psychology major, people tend to see what you are looking for.

hume zone seeing' tonight. very provocative sound bite from our pal brit. >> my sense of this is both eric holder and barack obama have benefited politically, enormously from the fact that they are african-american and the first to hold the jobs that they hold. to those two men, race has been both a shield and a sword this they have used effectively to defend themselves and to attack others. >> wow. so hume joins us from washington. what kind of feedback did you get from that? >> i got some mostly noted on twitter, i got some people saying it was right on it was exactly right. some people saying i was a racist. they were about equally dispersed. >> when they say you are racist, was there any thought behind it. >> typical. four white people discussing this and, therefore, it was racist. >> okay. >> in other words, in order to discuss this, you have to either have an african-american president. but if you are just white, then discussing this is racist. >> you know, it's -- this is

a tough question to pose. but if barack obama had been a young white senator from illinois, i think it probably hillary clinton would have defeated him. is that unfair to say? >> yeah. i agree with you. let me just put it this way. i think that given the aspirations of this country of the overwhelming majority of americans that the african-americans should rise in our society, become a fuller part of our society and be treated equally enhanced his prospects in that here was a man that first of all liked, appealing person who seemed to be non-divisive, not a race hustler in any way and they were proud of him, proud to see him elected and, therefore, he has gotten, i think, perhaps more than he would were he a white man, the benefit of the doubt from a great many people. >> do you believe the president has changed because he does use race now in his sixth year much more

than he used to? >> well, i don't think he uses it overtly. i do think that it's become more present in the way he associates himself with al sharpton, for example, who is in my view inquestionablably a total scamp on these matters it has been done on his behalf now. you see nancy pelosi suggesting that race is at the obama on the immigration issue. you hear eric holder raises it by clear implication by what he says. i have always thought that when the day came, when it was going to be used heavily, it would be used on his behalf with his implicit approval. >> you believe that's what's happening? >> i do. >> he does approve. >> do i think that's happening, yeah. >> okay. now, i think it's happening because there is danger to the democratic party. in november, as i told dr. carson, and to keep trogd out the grievance industry and to make it a huge issue obscuring the economy, obscuring foreign policy is a good political strategy.

am i wrong? >> no. you are not wrong about that i think it does have the effect of stirring the base and cow opponents. one of the effects of the great success of the civil rights movement, which was certainly a just cause, was that overwhelmingly, americans agree that blacks and other minorities should be treated actually in this country. they want to see blacks get ahead. and the effect of that is that being called a racist or labeled a racist, particularly if it's successful is, one of the worst things that can happen to you in america. so it places a real weapon in the hands of those who would use it, particularly those who would use it unscriewplessly which i think we see in the cases of some. >> we just heard from congressman israel. >> exactly, good example. >> who is basically saying look, i think is he referring to the tea party and the far right, that a lot of their opposition to democratic -- to democratic programs is because they are racist when anybody knows, everybody should know,

smaller government is the hallmark of the tea party not race. >> yeah. and conservatives, tea party and otherwise, were truly racist then they would have no use to clarence thomas. yet you don't hear him criticized. the answer to that is he agrees with them on the policies. that's exactly the point. people disagree with barack obama on his policies and credit size him for that store the same reason that they agree with clarence thomas about his policies. the obama line is that's not about race. >> now, i'm going to ask you the same question i asked dr. carson, do you believe when attorney general holder got up there and said hey, they are treating me and the president differently because of my skin color, our skin color, that he, himself, really believes that? >> well, i kind of almost hope he doesn't. because if he does, that means he is very poorly informed about what has happened to prior attorneys general. alberto gonzales, himself a minority by the way was treated very roughly by the congress, scorned, looked down, con descended to and the rest of it john

personal story segment total. new book called players first. coaching from the inside out will be released tomorrow. it's author 55-year-old john calipari coached basketball players. four of five on his rest nay. he joins us now. what i'm interested is in the culture you get a lot of players from poor background, african-american players. over the last 20 years how have, generally speaking, how have they changed? >> the kids, not as much as you think. the clutter, the klutzer, all the stuff around them, it's just gotten huge and bigger and louder and from the internet to the social media to the nba where they are ranked, where they will be drafted, that is the things that we need to deal

with. >> all right. now, you you had a young team, a lot of freshman on your team but you will lose some of them. they will go to the nba. so, it makes it very hard for a coach that used to, you know, have these guys for four years and now they are in and they are out. that's the money, right? >> a lot of it is. they have now. just like jordan had a genius golfing and left texas after a year or a tiger or bill gates. they have a greenous. what i would hope they stald with me longer. anthony davis, john wall, derek rose you have got to let them chase. >> you could make them better. if they are looking at $20 million hanging with you for a year. i mean, you are a good guy coach but -- now, the coaching has coarsened, you teach at the university of kentucky it's coarsened. i don't know if you listen to this rap stuff and hip hop stuff. has that changed their attitude? i mean, how do you impose discipline on kids who are pretty much gonna do what

they want to do. >> they trust -- you have got to have trust first that they look at me and say is he about me. that's what this book is about. they know that i'm about them and the decisions i make are in their interest, not my own, which is why i have a lot of kids leaving. i'm not influencing them to stay. i will tell them i want to keep copying you but i'm not going to hold you back. that's a big part of this. do they trust you enough? do they look at you and say he is going to do right by my? if i tell a kid to starks you know the people around them are going to say he is just trying to win more games. i have got to let them make their decisions. >> do they act differently toward you? do these use four letter words towards you. >> no, no. >> none of that? >> no. >> so you impose strict discipline on that. >> yes. here is what i would tell you. these kids come from good homes. people will say well he doesn't have a father. some of the best kids i coach were raised by a grandmother who was so firm that they understood. >> so you evaluate their character before you give them the scholarships. >> if i walk in a home and a

young man disrespects his mother or grandfather, grandmother in front of me, i'm out. because if that's the case, he respects no one. he is not going to respect me. >> okay. how do you keep them away from temptation with the hustlers everywhere? >> who? >> so they go out with a girl and the girl said hey you raped me. there is drugs everywhere. they are giving the kids drugs for free. how do you keep them away from that? >> one of the things i tell them coming to kentucky as you know, if you want to smoke, drink, chase, do all that stuff, they will do a 30/30 on you. they will be on the ticker, every news show. you can't do that here. you are coming here to be developed as a person and a player. >> how many buy into that? >> they all do. >> temptation is strong. >> we'll deal with issues as they come up. they all look at results. you and i know it's one thing to walk in and say we're going to do, this we're going to do that it's another thing to say here's what we have done. here is how they have been developed.

we have had 17 players drafted. we have had 10 players get their college degrees. our apr is as high as anybody in the country. four years of a 30-0. they understand they are there to be educated. people will say well, they don't want to go to school. that's a bunch of crap. they do want to go to school. but their genius is basketball. >> now, do you have guys on them all the time? curfews? coaches watching them drug testing it do you drug test. >> we do all of that we have housing with no women that can go in there. 30 beds. people get honest about it. why would you have separate them from the college? because of what you said. >> yeah. >> they have to be. we also, i'm embarrassed to say take nba security with us on the road. you would say, what? well, where do you get to these guys? you are not getting to them on my campus. you are getting to them when we gone 00 road. we bring nba security with us to protect them. at the end of the day, how they were raised, what we looked at the when we recruited them, how we are now the standards that's
