crash crashes. >> 200 people have swam to safety but a lot of worries the death toll could be rising. >> david piper is live in bangkok. what is the latest on that search? >> search teams are looking for survivors in the waters even though it is very dark right now. some dive teams have been down into the vessel looking for people but haven't found anyone so far. nearly 200 people survived and that was because there was a speedy search and recovery effort. they were picking people off the side of the vessel as it was going down and a lot of those people were only saved because of the speedy recovery system they have in place. the survivors did suggest a lot of people were still trapped in the ship as it was going down

increase in size when in people that do smoke. whenever you look at people doing what they normally do, there could be other differences. there was some evidence they might drink more alcohol than the other group. so you cannot say for sure it is marijuana, but the reality is you cannot do that type of perfect study because of ethical reasons. the perfect way would be randomly assign people saying you will smoke and you will n : not.not: but there are issues with that because if we think it is harmful we cannot make people smoke it. >> you look at alcohol and cigarettes and syntax and two states that made this drug that is more dangerous that many thought legal. what do you think about that? >> i think there is a difference

what do you make of this video? >> clearly we have not seen anything quite like this except going back to prior 9-11. in terms of the motivation, we can speculate a little bit. it reflects the confidence they feel justifiably so because they are on the rise in the middle east in northeast africa. it may be something internal inside of al qaeda. he is in the fight physically and partially. we have not heard from the leader of al qaeda general in some time. here he is openly admitting who he is in a video he knows going around the entire world, certainly will elevate his position in that movement quite significantly. martha: it could be an internal

power move on his part to be so brazen in releasing this. now, speaking on this video, what does it reveal in terms of what their motivations are? >> their motivations have not changed one bit. they want to dominate muslim land and the world, and ideological movement with huge ambitions. the objective has always been the same, to drive the united states out of the region to dominate it. this group is very vocal about attacking the united states. they have said that time and time again, there are certainly a threat to the region, a threat for the united states. what is alarming is we have pulled back from attacking this group as well as al qaeda in general with military drone tactics. martha: the president has said al qaeda is on the run, what do you think the message is ms. video to our president if

america and american interests are at the top of their list? >> those public statements we heard from the president and other government officials truly do not square with the intelligence force t you have received on a daily basis. that is why those statements are quite irresponsible to be making that. on the ground al qaeda has an large the influence in territory and people in the middle east. those facts are undeniable. they are a menace to the region, eventually to europe and the united states. martha: somebody who has advised top level people who make decisions they government at this point, what would you advise? would you ramp up those drone strikes again? with the president receive a lot of credit for in that program.

>> what is needed is a comprehensive radical islam. we have never had one, it is amazing we have not fashioned it. we deal with and ideological struggle, we have a strategy to deal with that. we have no political alliances even in the region where this is a hotbed to deal with radical islam. we should be sharing intelligence, partnering training programs on a very limited scale. not so much the u.s. involved in fighting, but bringing up the level of the administration. martha: who are you speaking of that we should be involved with? >> we are doing some of it, but in the middle east where al qaeda is present we should be partnering with their military to train them.

martha: the u.s. coast guard made a significant drug bust off the waters of florida. $110 million worth of cocaine, folks. they seized more than 7000 pounds of drugs in two different bus in the caribbean. one boat trying to get here from panama. the other from colombia. they ran into the same trouble with the u.s. coast guard. it did not stop when it was confronted, so the helicopter took out the engine stopping them in their tracks. both were headed for miami, where else.

bill: disturbing new video capturing a burglar. you can see the suspect on home surveillance video creeping around the nursery over the infants crib. live in dallas now. the family know this would happen? >> they had no idea. the whole family sound asleep. it wasn't until the next day actually when a neighbor called and said they found a laptop and it reef case in their yard, so this family began investigating noticing $60 was missing from your wallet and turne turns to e home surveillance video and found the bazaar, terrifying pictures. the burglar wandering around their room going into their son's room upstairs and watching him sleep. at one point the intruder is seen pointing a flashlight at the sleeping child and slipped out of the home undetected.

over the firings of several catholic school employees. tell us about that. >> the last several months there have been three employees contracts not renewed because they violated the law in their contract. the one that got the most publicity was the firing of the vice principal here in the seattle area. let's go after it was known he made his gay partner. suing for damages promising he would not be this committed against. an online petition into force the school to give him his job back. they did not act down prompting some families to pull their kid out of east high catholic. >> there is so much good, such a great christian tradition i think it is hard for a lot of young people to reconcile the continued hardline for these

divisive issues. >> many who are opposed to the move cited hope france's famous quote about gays, who am i to judge. martha: this will be an issue we will hear more about across the country and many catholic schools, i would expect, but not everybody interprets his comments on that issue the same way, right? >> absolutely. one person said americans are getting "the new york times" version of pope francis and not entirely accurate. yes, the pope has called for a rigid move, but not okay for those who are church employees leading by example to openly sin without consequences. they expect the employees to live in accord with catholic teachings. the pope' is wildly popular amog u.s. catholics with an approval rating close to 90% according to a recent fall.

that people should have to get an id with their picture on it has been met with charges of racism, it is a so difficult for some people to get an id, targets the wrong people in the most vulnerable among us. what do you think? >> i think those charges are actually correct. i do agree with o'reilly, this should be an issue we should take care of and move off the table. i do think the background is there. who is disproportionately impacted by things like ids. it is the young, minorities, people who have less access to the system. when we look at the reasoning these things are put in place. we say the reasoning is to combat voter fraud. take a look at the north carolina report that support of these massive reforms they put in north carolina in addition to voter id, cutting down early vote which is very

important for vulnerable people. when they look at the percentage of voter fraud, .017%. of all of the people who voted. something like that hardly warrants the massive reform in terms of things that do affect vulnerable populations. martha: i think you have a reaction, go ahead. >> i tried to get a library card, i had to show photo identification and two separate proofs of address to get a library card. you need id for cold medicine and to sign up for obamacare. is that discriminating? this is my real point, how insulting. what are you trying to say, minorities are incapable of getting photo id? are they too stupid, do they not have a leg? why can't somebody get a photo id? how do you get away with saying that and minorities think that

is an acceptable argument? what is the problem? >> i don't think we are saying anybody cannot get an id, but young people are moving more and more and more, so they have to register constantly. we can talk about voter id and other fixes. let's talk about automatic voter registration. it can help people who don't necessarily have the time or resources to get the id. >> your time to go to dmv to sign-up, it is not complicated. >> in new jersey there was no picture on it. one year they said everybody has to put their picture on it. there was a little bit of inconvenience, but everybody across the board the matter what their age or where they live, they had to go do it. it does sound on the basis of it you guys are both willing to put this to rest and say yes, we should pass something forcing

people to put their picture on a voter id card. is that right? >> it should be on a state level. no proof of id. driver's license. you can sign-up for an id card. but you don't need it to vote. martha: emily, you are on. >> let's do same-day voter registration. very much increases access to the polls. i do agree with bill clinton's underlining point whatever we feel people are most comfortable with we are combating even though a small problem combating voter fraud, if we can accomplish those goals, it is fine as long as just as bill clinton said, let's make sure it is free and easily accessible to everyone. i think those are an important caveat to it. >> it should be done on a state
