get high anymore from pot. they need coke, alcohol. it's a gateway drug with a life-time psychiatric pay off. >> dr. siegal? >> i see it differently. i think he's blurring here. i think we can make a scientific statement that someone is dying from cancer and have no way to stop nausea -- >> that's a good -- >> i want to make that point there are indications for medical marijuana but those have been misused deliberately like states like california and every other state marching along, using that narrow indication as a reason for promoting recreational use, which i agree with him is extremely dangerous. >> why is it extremely dangerous? that's why i wanted to start with you. why is it dangerous? >> it damages brain cells, interferes with thinking -- >> this isn't reefer madness. >> people don't do well on tests. this week there is a study out of france and the third that shows it can interfere with your

heart. people can get heart attacks because of marijuana. that's not that common, but that indicates how active it is. it raises your heart rate. it raises or lowers your blood pressure. it interferes with thinking in your brain. you get behind the wheel of a car, even more impaired than alcohol. >> let me ask chloe. you're a young member -- you're one of the young members of our audience. why do you friends smoke pot regularly? >> i know some that do. >> many? >> leave me out of this. >> and other drugs. >> here is my thinking behind it. you know, i went to school in the south. i saw a lot of people who smoked a lot of pot, and i believe it's a gateway drug. i believe that if you're going to try marijuana, that you're probably more likely to try cocaine. you're more likely to maybe try molly, and again, i'm an entertainment reporter so i see rihonna and miley cyrus that gore fie it. >> what about the doctors' observations it reduces motivation, ambition, drive?

>> do you know how many students i saw in college who smoked pot and skipped class? who smoked so much pot that they didn't take their test, they forget to study. it impairs their judgment and does not increase motivation. like you said, go out and run a little bit, and that will give you a better high. >> the only two successful pot heads i met in my life were cheech and chong. >> the majority of people sitting here because we asked before we started rolling camera, the majority of people sitting here have smoked pot once in their lives. how many people here have tried heroin? >> i wouldn't admit on national television. >> pot is a very popular drug, hard drugs are not popular. >> wait a minute, let me stop you for one second. i want -- all right. here is the question i have. these kids, you watch this tape and i watch all this video, they have pounding this down in huge

quantities, and -- wait a minute, many of them on a regular basis. the fact that somebody sampled it, experimented with it, that's a little different. >> sean, it's a pot party, if you rolled cameras at the st. patrick's party -- >> last year there were five citations at this event. it's only been legal at colorado at home, not at public. there were five citations last year and this year there were 92 and 4/20 fell on easter. >> go ahead. >> y'all keep saying kids, weed ain't for kids like alcohol is not for kids. >> do you smoke weed? >> i smoke pot. >> a lot? >> i am not dipping into your stash but -- [ laughter ] >> but even though both isn't for kids, you're right. there is an age limit. this does affect children, just a couple weeks ago, there was a case in colorado where a man ate

edition of "hannity," stoned in america. first advocates for legalizing pot said it would lead to an economic boom in certain areas. among those who feel that way, helped push for the legalization efforts in colorado and the director of communications for the marijuana project. mason, how are you? >> i'm great, thanks for having me. >> we actually went -- somebody just said you're stoned. we actually just went to one of the dispensaries. we'll show that later in the program tonight. do you have any financial interest in this at all? >> no, you know, like most americans, i simply think marijuana prohibition failed and i'm dedicated to trying to end it and more of a spenceble approach, like someone might work for a non-profit on gun rights, i'm choosing to work on marijuana policy. >> you see the kids on the video when we went to the 4/20 event

in colorado. you see them, smoking pot, very happy. you heard the doctors and their observations about people that smoke pot on a regular basis, even people that went to school with them. what is your experience? you see people, smoke pot regularly. do they have the same motivation you do? maybe you smoke pot regularly. >> we know for a fact marijuana is an objectively less harmful substance than alcohol, as a lot of your guests have pointed out. less addictive. less toxic and doesn't contribute -- >> but it takes away their ability to function, their motivation, their -- anybody that i've met -- anybody that i've met, i'm telling you a story if you just pay attention. anybody i met in my life that smokes a lot of pot has like zero motivation. they are not people i consider bright, energetic, happy people in my life. that's been my experience. >> that's quite frankly, that's -- >> that's a fact.

>> that's just saying something about who you hang out with. the fact is half of americans use marijuana -- >> all right. are you a parent? >> some of the most productive people in this country -- >> i'm talking -- there is a very different distinction between experimented, used and those who smoke it every day. those that need their hit every day. for example, let's say you have kids and see the videos of the kids at 4/20 event. your 21-year-old son or daughter says i'm going to the 4/20 event, dad, you're going to say what? >> i'm going to say, well -- >> have fun? >> it's illegal to consume marijuana in public so be careful, but i would much rather them use marijuana than binge drinking. >> you're going to -- >> there is a difference between the biggest frat party for alcohol and suggest all marijuana users are these young -- >> do you stop at marijuana? do you want to legalize crack? do you want to legalize heroin? >> this isn't a discussion about crack and heroin.

a gateway drug. >> all of this is creating pot culture. i'm not as nervous about the drug as i am about the obsession of the pot culture. what happens with young people is they don't learn how to cope when they start smoking pot -- >> you're a young person. >> i'm way too tight bay, i never relax is the thing. when people don't learn to cope, then they become adults who smoke all the time. >> you and i are the same way, type a. >> let me go to todd. you come at this from a moral perspective, do you see this as part of america in decline? >> i think absolutely that's the case. what we have here is the case of money over morality. and you know, right now, it's really funny. folks were watching the chuckle heads, watching these folks doing what they are doing and getting a good laugh. when the body count rises and people die, it's real funny, isn't it, real funny to talk

about, but this is a classic example, sean, of people just not giving a dang any more. they want to do whatever they want to do. >> you don't give a dang about marijuana od. >> wait a minute, hang on a second, i think what you're saying is they start with marijuana, then they drink and then they snort coke and do blow and this. where do you draw the line? that's the issue. where do you draw the line. >> if you look at cigarettes, there is a huge push out there talking about how bad cigarettes are for you. alcohol is the same way. what do we say about pot over and over again? how great it is. talking about how great other drugs are. in the conversation, is medical marijuana helpful? yes. the doctors said so. is other weed potentially bad for you? maybe -- >> keasha? >> why is there a promotion. >> i agree about the cigarettes. the whole society you can't smoke a cigarette, even in your own apartment in new york, anymore. >> just coming from an attorney's perspective, most of my clients, i do criminal defense work, i would say nine

out of ten of the clients have used marijuana on a regular basis and these kids who are committing crimes were high on marijuana. so their judgment is all messed up and i do believe it's a gateway drug. >> it's not a kid thing. >> it's not for anyone. it's a gateway drug. >> if you legalize it -- >> last word, guy. >> i know -- >> alcohol -- >> a child -- >> it would be easier -- >> you don't have to be a super criminal now. easier to have someone passing it to them? >> the majority of pot smokers in america are not on the campus of colorado. everybody on this panel will talk on a different place. the sound guys, camera dudes, they all smoked before, every single one of them. look at the guy on boom. look at his beard. >> whoa, whoa, first of all -- >> let him answer. >> he's a friend of this program and i work with him for years and i can tell you that's not

>> welcome back to our special edition of "hannity, stoned america." researchers out northwestern university discovered that young adults who use marijuana just once or twice a week have significant brain abnormalities and when our team of producers were in denver this weekend, well, they asked the stoners what they thought about the study. here is what they said. >> 4/20! >> i'm not a scientist, i didn't read the study. i think anything you put in your body that is foreign can be a problem. it's america, people will do what they want. it's free will to an extent and i don't think marijuana is any more dangerous than alcohol. if we out law marijuana, we should out law, marijuana, too.

>> i saw that and it's similar to alcohol. we're not allowed to drink until we're 21. we're not allowed to smoke until we're 21. if you wait, i don't see the problem. >> i would definitely agree with teenagers, definitely, but in a culture of situation in which it's 4/20 friendly and education, if they don't need to smoke marijuana until well after high school. >> that is false. it's a skewed study to begin with. i looked into that study and it's not true. it causes new brain cells to grow as opposed to what your study suggests. >> i wouldn't be surprised. there is a lot of developmental changes that happen through adolescence and puberty, as you age, so does the brain. >> all right. pretty unbelievable. that is not the only study that should make people nervous. a separate survey, they say marijuana use increases heart

whatever other gateway drug we're talking about here. it honestly is a culture we need to be aware of when it comes to students and college campuses and younger. if it's legalized, it will -- >> you know, i don't get the parents that drink and smoke pot with kids. >> nypd, eight years in the narcotics division. a lot of times we were sent out on federal day. federal day, we locked up people for one joint and they went through the federal system to give the federal government dollars towards enforcing narcotics. it was ridiculous. people faced three to five years in prison, which put a taxing on our criminal justice system. it put a taxes on the jail system. in the federal government, as well as the state government to the point where the narcotics division, new york city police department did not enforce the narcotics laws as it related to marijuana. >> all right. doctor, the on person that hasn't spoken yet, dr. williams,
