mike huckabee. >> thank you. thank you very much. great audience. and welcome to huckabee from the fox news studios in new york city. few stories disturbed me as the tragic story of 15-year-old justina of connecticut. kidnapped from her family from her fam by the boston hospital for 15 months. the alleged reason was that the parents of justinna were unfit despite the fact that massachusetts never intrude or made a home visit with the pelletiers. and the state of connecticut did not dome them unfit. i have spent more time with lou than officials in massachusetts and he didn't so many dangerous. i was impressed that he was rational as he was.

if the government took my child for me based on a emergency visit from a resident who never seen her before and dismissed the diagnosis from the specialist from tufts medical. i would have gone billy jack all over someone's face. (applause) >> justina's medical condition has derteriated. she is kept from takeneding school and religious services and limited visits with her own parents and then only with constant arm supervision. >> i reached out and my staff roached out to the governor of the common wealth of massachusetts and a spokesperson for the massachusetts department of family to give this story. you will not be surprised that my request is ignored.

it is said such a thing is worse than at crime is the cover up. boneheaded and inept decision made wiapproximately personnel in boston children's andoused the d~ cf to help cover their tracks. they presented a case bufl bull dropses and found a judge assuming d~ cf did their home work and gave the state custody of justina. the d~ cf came to the excuse the dog ate the home work. and the pressate their lunch. the governor claims it is out of his hands and in control of the court. unless he has a whole lot less power than i had as governor. i am sure if he ordered his agency to reitition the court to release justina, she would be released within hours.

the politicians and bureaucrats are all scrambling to cover their widely exposed roars and who is left to stand up for an innocent 15 year old victim of state sponsored abuse? attorneys and friends and media and you. your outcry is making a difference. now massachusetts governor patrick said that he wants justina returned to her family and that's good. but if the family is unfit, why would he want that? i can't imagine the loiblt that the state of massachusetts incurred in this case. but i can't think of consequences that are to which for the state sponsored malpracticed with justina. until she is home with her family or the state of massachusetts prouses good reasons why she shouldn't be. i pledge to justina that i will not be quiet or stop speaking

ordered to have her sent home. after that encounter, a meeting was called on friday to talk about how to transferricon conback to connecticut. reverend mahoney is with me and. judge the legal represent of the pelletiers. this that caused major changes in the case. you had an encounter and then the meeting. what is happening? >> we confronted governor patrick on all violations concerning justina not going to church, educated and not getting medication. within three hours of that exchange i got a call from hss secretary, saying they wanted to meet with me the next day. we had a 70 minute meeting and went over the issues concerning justina and put a proposal

together saying that justina needs to return home, here is the proposal and governor, the eyes of the nation are watching massachusetts right now. governor patrick, secretary,they said they wanted to bring her home. see what the reuniction is. and honor her civil rights and commit to protect families and if they will end the night mayor, partners know what is best for their children more than government or bureaucracy. and secretary pollano. i had a wonderful talk with him. and we have been communicating and hope they follow-through and we'll wait for the reuniction plan. >> there was a statement released from the department of human services in the form of the editor and said justinna should return to home state of connecticut to receive the services and support she needs

close to friends and family and community. all of that is good. i want to believe that the governor is just now understanding the depth of the case. i want to believe he was not told by his case and i think the ref rend's encounter with the governor ahead him ask questions he maybe not have asked yet. what could he do. you are an attorney it you understand what i said earlier in the monlog, if he want its to happen he can push the buttons. >> he need to do it quickly. we are moving on 14 or 15 months justina is held hostage with virtually no medical care or education or access to religious services and no clergy and the family can't come in and take photographs to celebrate birthday or easter or christmas.

and 14 or 15 months held there almost as long as the iowa rannian hostages were held. pretty soon she will have 436 days in custody. they went to court and they said they tried to get her home. and the court said she should not return home. and despite the evidence of she should return home. the only issue at all. someone at boston children's hospital who wrote an after theicle that said one out of every two children having nothing medical wrong it is all in their head. >> that is a bold statement that half of the kids that show symptoms are faking it. >> she wrote an article and justina comes to the hospital at the direction of physician at tucks and they say it is in her head. they have damaged this girl.

we hope that the damage is not irreparable. the governor can call his agency. you know as a governor, petition the court and let justina go home and when they do that the judge will let her go home. >> it is interesting to me the dpof goff said shenys to be home with her family. if they are fit why would you want her to go home. what is with the legislators and other things that give us hope. it locks like the case may have turned the corner. >> there is a lot happening. legislation is proposed by representatives and it has to do with the financial care. d~ cf is in serious financial straights and yet they are spending millions on justina's care. she loved stuffed animals and we are bringing in the stuffed animals and put them on the state house steps in

appointed. they have to regulate the insurance industries for the people of their state and make sure the prices are fair and prem yups are realistic. and it is your job to defend the people of your state. all of you come together and hear the president. it was interesting that one of the ceo's of the a etna had an interesting perspective. one of the few insurance excutives who said the president did a lot of the decisions on the fly. did that bring audible gasp to the rom when he said that with the insurance commissioners? >> obviously it is concerning to us. it is something that i have said for the last couple of years, every time the obama administration takes upon themselves to change the law or delay it creates ha voc in the marketplace. ultimately the biggest concern it impacts consumers.

this past week marks the 50th anniversary of president johnson declaring a war on poverty. on friday i spoke at an event in martin county. the very community where lbj traveled to announce what would become an almost $21 trillion effort in spending to end poverty. 50 years later, the poverty rate is about the same. you think that the government would look at the am spent and the minimal impact and declare that maybe a new model needs to be launched. but then you wonderful understand government. because 50 years and $21 trillion later some think we just need to spend more money. but look, i love the people that i met at the event. these are people who know hard work, hard times, and sometimes hard luck. but they aren't hard people. in fact they care deemly about their community and each other. and they reminded me the real

hope of ending poverty is not another government program but empowering people with hope, resilience and character. there are people in our country who live in substandard housing and who don't have adequate food. unemployment has hit some of the coal mining towns especially hard. it doesn't hem that the current administration has declared a war on jobs when it come to the coal miners. but poverty is not just an economic condition. it is a spiritual condition. when people quit dreaming and hoping and believing and hoping, they get stuck in the poverty rut. many people started poor but didn't stay there. education, hard work and some breaks along the way has been the ticket out for many americans including me. but while money poverty can make it difficult, moral poverty is even more devastating. in 1964, only 7% of babies born outside families of two marries adults. in 2012, 29% of white babies

voorks% of hispanic babies, and 72% of african-american babies were born into single parents homes. if poverty is a money issue, we failed. but the facts show that poverty is very much a marriage issue. sounds rather outdated but when marriage comes before children instead of children and then getting married, the poverty rate plunges. i don't doubt the sincerity of president johnson but i do doubt the sanity of a nation that would keep spending trillions for an effort that didn't appear to be working. we ought to care deepbly poverty and eliminating it. how about encouraging marriage, then moving the money and management for poverty to the local level and get it away from washington. and make sure that people have something government can't give but churches can and that is hope.
