libyans the truth and told the american people a lie? that's right at the heart of it. >> joining me now, chief congressional correspondent for the washington examiner, hi, sus susan. why would any of the dins in congress want to boycott these upcoming hearings, representative schiff, as you heard, he's saying that to do so would not give the committee correct. that's why he's saying to boycott it, don't give it credibility. >> that is the democratic strategy here to discredit this committee. by doing so, they can perhaps convince the public not to pay any attention to it. that is completely at odds with what the republican as want to do. they want to keep benghazi in the spotlight. there are a lot of unanswered questions, four americans were killed, including the ambassador, but it also is in their political interests, not only to shine a spot light negatively on democrats in general, but who's their number
12:46 pm
one candidate for the 2016, presidential elections? she hasn't made an announcement yet, but that hillary clinton, who was running the state department at the time and has so far managed to keep herself relatively untarnished in relationship to what happened in benghazi, by forming a committee, this does add legitimacy, and it keeps it in the spotlight perhaps into 2014, 2015. this could definitely end up yielding evidence or information that is unflattering not only to president obama and the democrats, but to hillary clinton as with well. >> so susan, if any of the democratic members of congress end up boycotting the hearing, you mentioned the american people and their perception of everything, would that cause american people to believe that this is just yet another republican led political witch hunt or a democratic political cover-up? >> you know, that's a great question, i think it's -- i'm on the fence on that. i these in some ways, the

democrats have scored a few point by trying to de-- everyon started laughing, like why are we picking on these poor irs employees? there's some legitimacy to that. this could backfire on the democrats if they try to strip this benghazi investigation of any legitimacy. because i think people want to know. the president's approval rating has sunk partly because of his hand ling of foreign policy. if democrats want to walk away and not participate, i think there will be a backlash. >> you know speaker boehner's

committee if indeed this is about political posturing across the board, i want you to tell me u where does each side stand to make mistakes? >> that's another great question, because first of all, let's see if kerry actually shows up, he's scheduled to be in mexico thet of the hearing. but if he does show up, if he changes his plans, and all of this could lead democrats in a really tough position. what do they have to lose? they have to lose talking about benghazi, keeping it in the spotlight, perhaps turning over more information that's unflattering, really to hillary clinton, who i think they want to protect most of all in this situation, for republicans, what do they have to lose? perhaps the public will grow tired of this and look at the republicans has not focusing enough on the economy and jobs and just turning their attention to attacking the administration. same old, same old. we need people in office, we're going to focus on the economy, i think this is one of the reasons you have seen the house speaker delay the formation of this committee, because they really

want to pick up seats in the next election, they want to take over the senate, have republicans in charge, they don't want to take the eye off the glitch filled obama care rollout. this will be a distraction from that. republicans are gambling, it will work o'in our favor. >> of course we don't forget that four americans did lose their lives that horrible night. okay, thank you, susan. >> thank you. >> and i want to tell you that coming up, we have new details on that horrific ringling brothers circus accident today in rhode island and new images of the incident as it happened. plus this is typically one of the busiest months of the year, it's may, right, time for moving, so if a change of zip code is in your future, should you rent or should you buy? we're going to tell you what the key deciding factors are. coming up next, stick around guys. i'm rdy, and i quit smoking with chantix.
