it truly is my savior in the morning. i like that. and richard says i see babe ruth on my toast. thanks for writing, everyone. i'm gretchen carlson and shepard smith reporting live. hi, shep. >> thanks, gretchen. where they're believed to be holding hundreds of girls in nigeria, a forest so dense security is frad to enter. and a security force to bring back the girls. they say the terrorists who took them have carried out a massacre. we've got a preview but the full monica lewinsky is out today to what she says about being recognize oddtown street and what it's like for her to go out on dates. plus why acting like a psychopath could actually help you at work and in your love life. it's an all psychopathic hour.
12:01 pm
we'll tell you what that's all about and why it's not so insane and why it just might work. let's get to it. and good thursday afternoon to you and yours. terrorist s threatening to sell girls again prove how blood-thirsty they really are. we have learn bd a new brutal attack in nigeria this which they report lid kill 100 people and possibly more, set their homes on fire and shot them when they ran from the flames. this word comes as the united states sends a team to nigeria to find the nearly 300 girls who were kidnapped from a school. it's a case that's now getting wild attention. first lady michelle obama tweeted this picture to raise awareness with th the #bringbackourgirls. to do that the rescuers will have to find them first, something to be an enormous challenge. they're holding the girls in a remote forest, one notorious for
12:02 pm
giving cover to terrorists so much so the local papers call it the evil forest and niger krahn troops refuse to enter it. we'll show you where it is. it looks like willing almost nothing and that's the point. this is the forest reserve. this whole forest is about the size of the state of virginia. it's full of thorny brush six feet high in some places and filled with dangerous wildlife. local reports say two died from snake bites and 20 are reportedly sick. even if they find these girls there's no guarantee they can get them out safely. the terrorist group known as boco haram has reportedly beheaded leaders in the past and he's a proud killer. says, quote, i enjoy killing anybody god commands me to kill like i enjoy killing chickens and rams. what's the status of u.s.
12:03 pm
assistance over there, wendell? >> well, shep, secretary of state kerry says the team is hitting the ground now, about 20 people from the state department, the fbi skilled in hostage negotiation and diplomacy. th there's no mention of a team going in. it was suggested no effort short of an assault will be spared to get them back. >> we are also going do everything possible to counter the menace of boco haram. the entire would should not only be condemning this outrage but should be doing everything possible to help nigeria in the days ahead. >> kerry said the kidnappings will focus world attention on the dangers posed by boco haram. shepa shepard? >> there is some sort of a dustup or some are asking about hillary clinton not willing to designate boco haram a terrorist group. what's that about? >> a number of lawmakers pushed

for the designation when she was secretary of state, but it wasn't made until john kerry took over as secretary. pretty goodluck jonathan who met with the president at the white house in 2011 is said to have opposed the terrorist nation and two months later they bombing them. about two dozen people were killed. last night mrs. clinton criticized jonathan's government for not doing enough to protect itself people. >> the nigerian government has failed to confront the threat or to address the underlying challenges of poverty, lawlessness and despair in marginalized northern niger jan areas. all of this demands a strong response from the people and government of nigeria. >> mrs. clinton's critics say the delay in declaring boco haram a terrorist group kept the u.s. from fully addressing the threat it posed, although goodluck jonathan's rights

12:06 pm
been a conflict over the northern half of nigeria which is predominantly muslim, the southern half which is predominantly christian, and many parts of the northern part of nigeria, many of the inhabitants there have always been opposed to what they see as secularized westernized godless education. that's certainly a key element of what's been going on here. >> religion versus religion since time began. it's astounding. i wonder if you have a thought on what's the best way to penetrate this. they're trying to figure out,000 rescue these girls. history tells us that's going to be mighty hard. >> it is going to be difficult, especially as you pointed out earlier they're in a very remote part of northern nigeria that they know better than anyone else. i think one thing that might be useful if the united states tried to bring in other islamic countries that have quite adept counterterrorism, counterintelligence networks, for instance, like egypt or a country like that. i think that might be a
12:07 pm
plausible alternative to u.s. troops on the ground there. >> yeah. nobody's talking about sending in troops, but i wonder if there -- if you have a sense for how it is that you might get to these girls though because that's what the whole world wants now is go in and get them. from the looks of the forest which is the size of the state of west virginia, it's going to be as hard as finding that plane. >> maybe harder. there's no black box there unfortunately. yeah, as you point out, shep, i think it's not going to be just hard. it's going to be impossible. i think if this group and their hostages, with their hostages don't want to be found, i don't think they will be found. so i'm not quite sure what u.s. forces will do to help with that. >> i'm frankly not either. so good to see you. ing their you very much for coming. tim furnish liven with us. >> you're welcome. monica lewinsky said she's had a tough time dating since the scandal that led to president clinton's impeachment. but in a recent article she

tiptowing around her past and other people's futures clearly referring to the clintons here. she said that in hillary clinton's 2008 presidential campaign she remained reclusive and she's fearful if clinton makes another run. still lewinsky claims the timing of her article is not about her versus the clintons saying, quote, their lives have moved on. they occupied important global stations on the stage. i wish them no ill. and i wish that people would understand that what happened to me does not matter to either of them. she ice saying clinton not only blamed her but blamed him for the affair. >> it's been an impressive run for monica lewinsky. she goes overseas, gets a very impressive ed karks and yet the normal things of life like getting jobs and finding love

12:20 pm
but we don't know if they had fireworks on their heads. we don't know if one murdered the rest or what happened here. >> this is absolutely bizarre, to think what might have happened here. it sounds to me like the fireworks could have been the initiator for the blaze, but it sounds to me like there was an accelerant in the house that caused the total devastation and the rapid flames that occurred there. what happened, i guess, probably the coroner is going to have to figure that out and maybe a little bit of investigative work by the police department there to find out where exactly all these things started. it's just bizarre. >> they're saying they think it's a murder/suicide. but who commits suicide by setting yourself on fire. >> it's so unusual but it very well could be that whoever the initiate over the murders were, whether it was one of the kids or one of the parents, if, in fact, they killed the other three people and then started the fire and then asass nalted
