>> it's creepy. >> that was a great scene. that was hilarious. happy mother's day to all of you moms out there. have a great weekend, everybody. more disturbing evidence that the va is failing our nation's heroes seeking medical help. with news out of wyoming showing a clear pattern of negligence. this as there are more calling for eric shinseki to resign. it's a strong message of support coming from the first lady in an unusual move, taking over the president's weekly address to the nation ahead of mother's day, condemning the terrorists holding the nigerian schoolgirls. we will talk with ed royce about what the u.s. is doing to try and bring those girls home.

we'll also bring you the latest on the special select committee investigating the benghazi tragedy. we know who the republicans are, but what about the democrats? will they boycott? and all about using your instipgts to find your special purpose. >> you can't change around you things that you have not identified within you. >> you'll hear from megachurch pastor, td jakes, on what you can do to find true success in life. america's news headquarters starts right now. and we begin this hour with a new bombshell in the growing veterans affairs scandal. an e-mail obtained by fox news reveals that an employee at a wyoming va hospital instructed his workers to manipulate records to reflect shorter wait times for veterans. the employee described it as

abducted by terrorists. a social media campaign now bringing people across the globe together to take part in a major twitter campaign calling for the return of those young ladies. with the first lady posting her own picture this week on her own twitter feed, she's calling for the safe return of the girls back to nigeria. >> this unconscionable act was committed by a terrorist group determined to keep these girls from getting an education. grown men attempting to snuff out the aspirations of young girls. >> the first lady is also asking the nation to pray for their safe return. the international effort to locate the girls continues to put pressure on the nigerian government to take stronger action for their safe return, but is being hampered by that nation's military and a government reluctant to take on outside help. joining us now, ed royce. great to have you here today.
9:05 am
>> good to be with you. >> let's talk for a moment about this story. where do things stand now with the u.s.'s efforts to help the nigerian government in the search? >> well, the president of nigeria has asked for u.s. military support. i have indicated in a letter that i sent senator kerry, talked to our ambassador in nigeria and also to our department of defense to the pentagon, that we have the capability and yesterday in my committee, in the foreign affairs committee, we passed out a resolution that would indicate we should use u.s. special forces, special ops on the ground in order to assist in obtaining the release of these girls. and i think that what's unusual here is that the administration for two years, pushed back secretary clinton pushed back on the idea of designating this as a terrorist organization. it is clear that it is a terrorist organization.
9:06 am
we finally got that designation. and frankly now, it's time to do something other than talk about it. now, it's time for us to assist the nigerians in obtaining the rescue of these young women. >> i want to talk more about hillary clinton's move not to designate it as a terrorist organization. but i want to ask you about the reports that we've been hearing that the girls may have been sent out of nigeria to countries like chad. what are you hearing now about this situation and how frustrating has it been knowing that the nigerian government knew about this kidnapping and faileded to take action until weeks went by? >> one of the frustrating parts, i've met with president jonathan in nigeria, i've been there several times to talk with the nigerian government about the need for them to pick it up, but frankly, they do not have the capabilities that we have or the
9:07 am
british have or the french to track, to use satellite technology to have the special ops available to assist in a rescue operation like this. so, now that the president of nigeria has formally asked for our military support in doing in, it is time for us to deploy assets in the field in order to assist in the rescue and let me also share with you, yes, some of the girls may now be in chad, but many of them are still local. there's 223 girls still missing. 50 have managed to escape. but we should understand that over 500 schools have been destroyed. and that's exactly what they are going to continue to do unless the leadership is taken down in this organization. because by destroying the schools, they then create the

environment where they go in and kill the tell the young men, join our movement. you don't have an option for western education. it's a sin. you join our movement and this has been continuing over the last few years. 500 schools destroyed. it's time for us to assist the nigerians here now in rescuing the girls and taking down the leadership in this organization. >> so, as you pointed out that mrs. clinton was reluctant to designate them as a terrorist organization has some suggesting this has left the group capable of carrying out this most recent shocking abduction and you believe that the critics are justified in this. >> i believe frankly, that the only way we're going to deter this group, which believes it's in their best interest to continue to kill teachers, continue to kill boys, some were

burned alive in some of these schools and to take women because they believe that rather than have a woman become educated, that it's preferable to have, to take them as concubines or to sell them as wives among i think the asking price was $12 here. last week is what we heard. as they were selling these young girls. high school girls into basically into slavery. i just think that the west has to understand when this is happening in pakistan, with a 15-year-old girl there shot because she was trying to get an education and happening here as a message to other girls not to go to school, we need to help provide the assistance to the government of nigeria in order to have them have the capability to bring this organization to justice and to rescue these students. >> it's certainly a horrific

situation. thank you so much for joining us with your insights today. we really appreciate it. >> thank you. and this is a fox news alert. back in this country, virginia state police have now recovered one body from a horrible hot air balloon crash and are still searching for two people who are now feared dead as well as the wreckage itself. last night, that balloon hitting a powerline, catching fire as it crashed. eyewitnesses telling police two people either fell or jumped from that balloon. >> we have had reports, we've also seen video that people have provided us, that does appear to have two individuals, who possibly leaped or possibly fell from the basket and at this point, we don't know for certain if that would be -- until we can find the rest of theother two c able to piece together the

9:13 am
many democrats say they want to defend the administration. recent congressional testimony has zeroed in on secretary of state, former secretary of state, hillary clinton, and those around here. pelosi however doesn't want to give importance or attention to the panel. >> clearly among those who say don't have anything to do with with. it's a kangaroo court, has been identified as such. i don't dignify what they are doing. >> there's no timetable for the panel, although it's anticipated to continue through the midterm elections. >> thank you are very much. our next guest has repeatedly called for the state department to be held accountable regarding the attacks. she's calling the inaction both quote unacceptable and appalling. joining us now with more, great to see you, congresswoman. let's talk for a moment -- >> well, thank you very much. >> what do you make of the fact that miss pelosi is calling this
9:14 am
a kangaroo court? >> well, this is amazing to have the verdict before you even have the trial. she's already saying it's a kangaroo court. the committee hasn't been composed yet. only the republican members have been named. it is up to her now the name the five members of the democratic caucus to be part of this. it would be foolish for the democrats to not participate in a very serious matter. we're talking about an attack, a terrorist attack that took the lives of four americans and we want to make sure that this is never repeated. the only way to do that is to examine what went wrong, stand down orders given. why did the accountability review board, the group tasked with looking at this terrorist attack not even interview hillary clinton. all they did in the supposed report was hand the document to secretary clinton and said, this is our report. how could you not have asked the person at the top what were you
9:15 am
doing? what assets that we have? did you coordinate with the department of defense? was president obama told? where was president obama during this extended fire fight? this was not a little, isolated incident on a date that is so important in american history where we know we have to be very weary of terrorist attacks. what happened? how could we not wabt to get to the bottom of this? how could you call this a kangaroo court before you even set it up. let's have nancy pelosi put five people who are willing to look at the facts without any partisan debate and really look at what happened so that we can get at the truth. shame on them if they don't participate. >> to that end though, what impact will this have if democrats actually do boycott, what impact will this have on the public? >> well, i think that the public will see that the democratic party are the ones making this a
9:16 am
partisan witch hunt because the republicans that have been appointed by speaker boehner are fair. yes, we have certain opinions about what happened. how can we not? we're looking for information and once you give us the information, then maybe we can say you know, we were wrong when we said that secretary clinton couldn't have done anything. we were wrong when we said that the department of defense couldn't send assets in time to save these lives, but unless you have the facts, you won't get it and why is a select committee important? because all of our committees have certain areas of jurisdiction and one committee is unable to get at all of the facts because then the other committee will say, hey, that's not within your jurisdiction in foreign affairs. t that's ours in armed services and you'll have a lot of this, a lot of these blockades and a select committee will have subpoena power. will be able to have the individuals there and we are still getting new information, new documents that have come in and that's really what spurred speaker boehner to appoint this.
9:17 am
>> congresswoman, i need to jump in just for a quick second. i only have just a few seconds left, but i need to ask you this question. what happens in the impact, it appears that the republicans are pushing too hard. could there be a backlash? just a few seconds, please. >> i don't think we can push too hard when you want to get at the truth. i don't think that you can push too hard when you want to look at what has been done to save american lives. i don't think you can push too hard to make sure this never happens again. and that we can protect our embassy officials and those navy s.e.a.l.s serving valiantly throughout the world. >> thank you so much for joining us. i know you'll be following these developments quite closely as are we. thank you for joining us today. now, it's time for you to weigh in. is the benghazi committee a political waste of time or will committee members get answers to un unresolved questions. tweet us your answers and we will read them at the end of the
