twitter at fnc. that's it for this week's show. thanks to my panel and to all of you for watching. i'm paul gigot. hope to see you right here next week. an outrageous new development in the scandal rocking the department of veterans' affairs. it all stems from a bombshell new e-mail in which an employee at a va hospital in wyoming walks his workers through a plan on how to, quote, game the system by manipulating records in order to hide delays in patient care. hello, everyone, i'm arthel neuville, welcome to "america's news headquarters." >> i'm eric shawn in for gregg jarrett. critics are calling this e-mail a smoking gun and say it's undeniable proof that officials

11:32 am
shinsecchi wrote in a statement, quote, v.a. takes any allegations about patient care or employee misconduct very seriously. if true, the behavior outlined in the e-mail is unacceptable. but republican congressman jeff miller, chairman of the house committee on veteran's affairs calls the v.a.'s reaction, quote, faux outrage, and criticizes the department for not doing anything until yesterday. former arkansas republican governor and fox news host mike huckabee says shinseki should be out of a job. >> i think shinseki needs to go, not because he's personally responsible. but he is ultimately responsible. and at some point, you have to say we're cleaning house, we're going to bring people in. they're going to go top to bottom. we're going to get to the heart of this. we're going to fix it. and if they don't fix it -- >> on thursday, prior to yesterday's revelations, the white house said that the president has, quote, complete confidence in shinseki. eric and arthel? >> all right, molly.

and there will likely be much more on this in the coming weeks. >> thanks, molly. okay, eric, we turn now to the brand-new special select committee in the house that's been set up to investigate benghazi. washington this weekend focusing all their attention on just what house minority leader nancy pelosi will do next. she still hasn't named any democrats to take seats next to the six gop lawmakers. and committee chair south carolina congressman trey gowdy. elizabeth prann now with more. >> reporter: hi, arthel. well, we learned more about the republican lawmakers who have been appointed to serve on the benghazi select committee. the big question looms, will democrats sign on? minority leader nancy pelosi could select one, five or no one for the investigation, some democrats argue they want to defend the administration. recent congressional testimony focuses on hillary clinton and those around her. pelosi, however, doesn't want to draw attention to the panel. >> our caucus is clearly among those who say don't have

they are going to obstruct -- they do not want to participate in what's going on. they're very worried about finding out the facts. we just found out that the -- that a white house staffer was involved in a cover-up by convincing susan rice to talk about the anti muslim video and to stay away from that administration policy when it came to benghazi. >> you're talking about the -- >> i think they're worried about what's going to happen here. >> do you think democrats are worried about what this panel could find, it's part of a cover-up? >> let me first say happy mother's day to everyone, and particularly to the mothers of the four brave americans killed in benghazi. mother's day originally was mother's day for peace, and which mothers were calling for peace all over the world. and in this spirit, i hope we can approach this benghazi investigation. the fact is, we need to put patriotism over party. we need a bipartisan committee, we need a bipartisan agreement to seek answers that are right, not just hunt for answers for the right. i fear that we have shifted the
11:43 am
fight from aca over to the fight over benghazi. and this is about 2014 and 2016. and it should not be you have four dead americans and in the meantime you've got 92.5 million americans who are out of work. you've got girls who need to be brought back. there are a lot of issues that we need to deal with. and i don't want to shift away from benghazi. but i want us to get the right answers and seek them for the right reasons. >> and you're right. the outspoken mothers of some of those brave americans who were killed. they want answers too. but look, the democrats, they didn't boycott the watergate hearings. they didn't boycott iran contra. they didn't boycott, what -- the hearings on the mafia? i'm going way back on that one. why boycott this if it's in the intent of our nation to get the true answers out? >> well, you know, i mean, that was a very different time. you had bipartisanship. you had people who would come together, past party and pass legislation that was best for america. we don't have that environment now. it is a highly toxic, highly

these are not bomb-throwers, people playing partisan politics. and they shouldn't overplay their hand. simply asking the questions, what happened before, during and after, and get to the bottom of it. you know, questions like, where was president obama during all of this? we knew exactly where he was during the osama bin laden raid he ordered. we basically have very foggy details about what happened with him. where was he? why was he, you know -- all we know is that he was potentially patching up something with -- something with israel and benjamin netanyahu during that time, paying attention to campaign issues. rather than focusing on what happened. >> you're talking about an 8:00 p.m. phone call we know of, apparently was in the white house but not in the situation room. >> he was reportedly not there. >> but you know -- if you want -- >> not in the situation room. >> bring in ray mcgovern. ray mcgovern briefs presidents for decades. he says this was an intelligence failure. this was a conflict, it became a diplomatic facility. what does all of that mean? i don't mind asking these questions. i'm not afraid of asking the

hard questions. but you know what? you've got to detoxify the atmosphere so that i can trust the answers. >> that's what the democrats are doing. >> i'm not -- no, you know what, this is not about democrats or republicans. this is about american people getting the answers. >> ron, last word. >> yeah, no. that's what the democrats are doing. they're trying to put up a smokescreen, have a fog machine go around this whole thing by simply calling it politics and calling it a kangaroo court. you know what, we just found out last week that the white house lied. they said they were not part of covering this up. when we found an e-mail from ben rhodes, a white house staffer, telling susan rice, talk about the anti muslim video, stay away from administration policy. that's a golden nugget. oh, my gosh. >> we're up against the clock and we'll see what happens if the democrats do indeed join this committee if it indeed does go forward in a bipartisan manner. thank you. >> happy mother's day, god bless you both. >> happy mother's day. >> happy mother's day to you too as well. a powerful twitter campaign
