th sleep number. thanks for joining us thanks for joining us tonight. i'll be back on friday. thanks for watching, everybody. this is "the kelly file." welco" tonight we have a welcome to "hannity." tonight we have a jam-packed show. america, are you ready? time to roll. >> when did you start caring so much about the brain fitness of those who have to hold the oval office? >> karl rove taking some heat about the comments he made on hillary clinton's health. the clintons circle the wagons to shield hillary from benghazi fallout. could her role soon be exposed?
10:01 pm
>> i'm not surprised that secretary clinton asked. what difference does it make? i'm just surprised how many people bought it. and our panel reacts to the latest scandal surrounding the biggest names in tinsel town. "hannity" starts right here right now. tonight his comments about hillary clinton's health have caused an uproar on the left. let's explain how this all unfolded. on monday, the new york post ran a story. the title was not a direct quote from karl rove, the left, they wasted no time trying to take down the architect.
10:02 pm
let's take a look. >> reprehensible comments from karl rove. >> i think that's vaguely sexist. >> one question before you go there, house md. when did you start caring so much about the brain fitness of those who have to hold the oval offense? >> consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. >> here's what i have to say about cognitive capacity. karl rove might have been the last person on election night to acknowledge that the president won the reelection in the state of ohio. >> he's probably the only person in america that believes ben rhodes talking points had nothing to do with benghazi. sir, welcome back. >> thanks for having me, sean. >> i'm sure it bothers you when
10:03 pm
baghdad bob carney criticizes you. >> being insulted by jay carney, does that make me an honorary member of the white house correspondents association? >> i think it does. she did come out with the glasses that you referenced. nobody knows for sure what happened here. what was it you did say? what were you communicating? >> this is a 30-day long episode. she returns from the czech republic on december 7th 2012 with a terrible virus. on tuesday, they have cancelled the trip. she's last seen in belfast. sometime that week, she has fallen and hit her head and that she will not be able to testify. her doctors on the 20th of
10:04 pm
december have told her to stay home. on the 30th of december, she goes to hospital for routine exam and they find a blood clot and they put her in the hospital. they will not say what kind of blood clot it is. her doctor said the blood clot was behind her right ear between the skull and the brain. on wednesday, she's released. she's in the hospital for four days. it is from december 7th to january 7th before she shows back up at the state department. this is a serious health incident. i made two remarks. first of all, this was a serious health incident. as she thinks about running for president -- i think it's a more difficult calculation than that. if you're going to turn 69 two weeks before the 2016 election and you've had this kind of
10:05 pm
serious health incident and if you get elected, you're going to serve for eight years, you're going to be 77 at the end of it. do i really want to do this? my point was, this incident more complicated -- contributes to a more complicated decision on whether or not to run. my second point is look, every presidential candidate gets asked for their health records. they want your records and they want to talk to your doctors. my point was, she'll have to deal with this at some point and be more forthcoming. in 2001, cheney has a def defibrillator put in his heart. in this instance, we have only heard from her press spokesman and her doctors in the form of a
10:06 pm
119 word printed statement. do i think she has brain damage? no, i think she had a traumatic brain episode. she had a condition and a blood clot. that's serious. they say that she's been -- she's completely recovered. today president clinton said it took six months. it's a serious deal. the left's angst on this, i want to see if the same people throw the same words to the new york times. the same thing they've asked of republican and democrat candidates in the last three years. >> i don't recall that her husband made public his records. did he? >> he tried to slow play it in 1996. he released his records in 1992,
10:07 pm
i believe. in 1996, they tried to only put out part of them. by october, they had put out everything and had conversations. but the new york times said they have been the least cooperative of presidential candidates. if they're going to do that, fine. let them say that now. our health records are off li t limits and nobody has a right to do it, but every other presidential candidate since the 70s, i believe, has done this. is this going to be an issue in the 2016 presidential campaign if she runs? no it's going to be a minor thing. my point was that she's going to have to do it if everybody else has to. i don't know you don't like to do it. i remember those conversations in 2000 and 2004. that's the way it has to go. the mainstream media will demand it. they have a right to know more
10:08 pm
fully the health status of american presidents. we've had -- we had president cleveland who has cancer removed from the top of his jaw in secret. we had one president -- >> let me ask you this. health issues have come up. i think it's 50/50 she runs. she was supposed to be a shoe-in 2008. what are the other democratic options besides o'malley? >> you have andrew cuomo. you have joe biden. there will be a cavalcade of office holders. they don't have a large bench. >> good to see you. thanks for being with us.
10:09 pm
>> you bet. thank you. >> i think it's a badge of honor when baghdad bob criticizes you. >> he gives the title of press secretary a bad name. >> being under fire, it's a good place to be. it means you're doing your job. coming up next tonight on "hannity" -- >> in my opinion, hillary did what she should have done. >> he comes to his wife's defense. they go head to head. ann coulter is taking on left wing ignorance in this idiotic twitter campaign for the 300 kidnapped schoolgirls. that and much more on our edition of "hannity" straight ahead.
10:10 pm
10:11 pm
10:12 pm
welcome back to welcome back to "hannity". the clinton family is beginning to circle the wagons to protect hillary from the benghazi fallout. he publicly defended his wife's handling of the terror attack in benghazi. >> in my opinion, hillary did what she should have done. she impanelled a very high level review committee with the immediate past chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, backstage our country's most distinguished senior diplomat, and they looked
10:13 pm
into what was wrong. they gave 29 recommendations. she took them and started implementing them. and they established the fact that whether it was right or wrong in the past, secretaries of state never were involved directly in these security decisions. >> now also in addition to help from her own family, my next guest is planning to lead a truth squad to counter any accusations against her highness, hillary clinton. three very simple and basic questions. not a big deal. i just want direct answers, okay? why did the state department refuse multiple attempts to get extra security for benghazi, especially when we were the last people flying a flag there and the british and red cross had left? why did they not give them the
10:14 pm
security that was requested? >> i think the findings of the -- >> i'm asking you why. >> the answer to your question is that there should have been greater care taken in promoting security for that embassy and that that was a mistake. >> okay. >> it was not intentional and it didn't involve the secretary of state. >> your job is to protect hillary. i understand how close you are to the clintons. >> you can talk over me tonight, sean, but i'm going to talk back. my job is to tell you the truth. >> -- testified before congress. beth jones from the state department actually said that the libyan president was
10:15 pm
responsible. explain to me how that evolved into a massive lie about the youtube video. >> that massive lie that you just described was written by the cia based upon their best current intelligence. fact, are you going to deny that? >> you didn't answer my question. you can't answer a question with a question. the state department -- the state department -- >> the cia came to that conclusion. >> i know you're obsessed with her being president. i ask the questions and you answer them. the day after beth jones said, al sharia was responsible for the attack to the libyan president, how did that evolve into an entirely different story? why didn't they listen to the station chiefs on the ground? >> the answer to that is that we made a misjudgment based upon current intelligence.
10:16 pm
i ask you to answer my question. did it -- >> when you get your show, i'll answer your question. >> you know the truth, sean. >> i can answer the question. it's pretty simple. the chronology is not difficult to understand. on the evening of september 11th, hillary clinton put out a statement which in part blamed the video. the cia did say there were spontaneous protests that evolved, but did not make the story about the video. if you go back to the testimony, morrel specifically said the video story did not come from the cia. those are the facts. >> what you just said actually was misleading. what the cia wrote was that it came from protests in cairo. everybody knows that protests were triggered by protests in
10:17 pm
cairo. >> stop with your aggressive i love hillary crap because it's not going to work here. the next logical question then is this. you have people on the ground, people that were eyewitnesses. congress has not had access to them. there's videotapes of apparently what happened that night. why would you talk to the people in langeley and not talk to people that were present? >> there were mistakes and judgments that were wrong that since have proven to be correct with the wisdom of hindsight. >> especially in the lead-up to an election. >> the only argument is whether there was a political agenda that created that narrative of spontaneous demonstration. the cia wrote the words
10:18 pm
spontaneous demonstration. the republicans have attributed that to the white house. >> that's not fair. that's not clear and that's not true. what the cia said was spontaneous demonstration. specifically that the video story did not have anything to do with the cia. we did not provide that information. hillary clinton said that, said that on the evening of september 11th before there was ever any mention -- >> you're not the host. get over it. >> she said that. >> i have a question. excuse me, gentlemen. i have a question for steve. as it relates to point about it being a spontaneous demonstration -- >> that was wrong. >> i'm asking a question. i know you're obsessed with the clintons and you can't control yourself. calm down. >> i think you're obsessed with interrupting. >> you can't handle the truth.
10:19 pm
you're afraid this is going to effect her presidential run. >> i'm not going to allow you to talk over me. >> did you ever hear of a case of spontaneous demonstration where rpgs are in the back pocket and they happen to fire them and we don't send anybody in to help? >> that's not the case. there was some preplanning and some organization to those attacks. by the end of the week, while the senior administration officials were still pushing the video line, the cia had backed away from claims that it had anything to do with any demonstration and a couple weeks in and the state department itself acknowledged there hadn't been a demonstration. >> we agree that the intelligence changed over time as more information came in, but there was no intentional misrepresentation. >> you don't know that. that's a guess. >> excuse me, i do know what the
10:20 pm
intelligence committee said. >> let me tell you one thing you're missing. the people on the ground. you're using a story that was manufactured in spite of what beth jones at the state department said. >> why did she attribute the attack to the video on september 11th? there was no intelligence on that at the moment. isn't that jumping ahead? we didn't know all the details at that point. >> everybody agrees that was wrong and a mistake. there's a difference between a mistake and a misrepresentation. >> thank you for being with us. coming up next, she's taking charge of this week's edition of ask sean. she's putting her own little twist on things. ann coulter joins us tonight.
