you have opposition to obamacare, almost everyone in the party whether you call them establishment or conservative tea party, everyone opposes obamacare, everyone believes entitlements need to be reformed. the party is united. there is a difference like immigration reform. the ball one side and people on the other side, conservatives and those who are less conservative, so there is a mixture of opinion on that. i do understand on social issues there are some who went to this conference who are part of the social right who see their issues are deemphasized because they are not what a lot of people believe will be the republican. i understand their frustration and not issues they care about like abortion, emphasized as much as they would like us to be. jenna: why have a private meeting in d.c. representing only some of the conservative voices that are out there. why try to have one cohesive voice about these issues if people just have different opinions?
8:24 am
>> i think there is a danger on the part of some on the right. not everybody, but they want to divide the party, they want to attack people who don't have exactly their views on immigration. jenna: whose they? >> some of the people in the group. here's the bottom line, conservatives need to recognize their problem is not with the right electorate who mostly agree with them. mitt romney got the highest amount of votes coming back from ronald reagan. that is not the problem. you need to expand your demographic. you need to look to the hispanic community, which means immigration reform. you also need to look to appeal to women. you don't need to take social issues off the agenda, but for example abortion. let's talk about abortion the right way. we have 1.2 million abortions a year, which is hideous. we should be talking about

adoption. it has dropped to such low levels and has become so socially off and unacceptable that the government has even stopped counting the number of domestic adoptions. there are ways to talk about these issues that aren't divisive. jenna: some people, sums it why even talk about these at all? what is clear as we ought to be focusing on economic security for the future, not dividing social issues. that plays into the democrats hand. so should the issues whether it is abortion or immigration policy be the issue that the g.o.p. is trying to rally around? >> it with every issue that will win the senate in november are obamacare, that is what is driving the republican electorate to vote for republicans. as i mentioned, there are legitimate voices to the social issues falling by the wayside.
8:26 am
that is why they are at this conference. i agree, at this conference there are also people with this group that i would define as demagogues you wouldn't want running a lemonade stand. their own importance and get their own voice out there. they are just there for themselves and i don't see any problem with this election cycle on the candidates that are winning. they are very conservative. these aren't people who are moderates by any means. i don't know what they are complaining about. jenna: what you think about jamie's accusation of them trying to make a name for themselves and professional politicians don't officially have to be in office right now, but they're trying to drive the conversation because it is their job. something they are feeling connected to from their heart. >> part of the ideological purity campaign is what i think jamie is referring to.
