through your community and through this columning campus' community, how do you exmraup how everyone is feeling now? >> well, it is hard to explain. everyone is down right now obviously. it is a huge disappointment to the community especially considering a community that has recovered from a lot of large crime over the last now months. in recent memory the riots. and they are hoping that things are going to improve since then. this put a dampness on the hopes. >> you heard pop, pop, pop. a lot of people had no idea that a shooting was going down and it sounded like four works? >> fireworks are very common.

and we usually don't think much about it and obviously gunfire is rare. we assume that that is fireworks. it wasn't until people started running that i was alerted to something else going on. even then no one figured out what was happening until the police went up and down the streets and yelling at people to take cover. >> you work for your newspaper, so your first instinct was to run outside. >> they were not letting us out of the building. we were just kind of left to guess. once we did get outside, there was not a lot to see. the streets were empty.
