officials ending the search for six hikers missing and now presumed dead on washington state's rainier. park officials believe the group fell more than 3,000 feet to their death. a helicopter crew spotted their camping and climbing gear in one of the more avalanche-prone areas of the mountain. park officials say conditions are too dangerous to look for their bodies but they do plan to check by air. right now a ceremony is wrapping up in ohio. dedicating a memorial to holocaust victims. but it did not come without a bit of controversy. live at the new memorial in columbus. hi, garrett. >> reporter: hey, eric. yes. this unveiling just wrapped up here. you can still see the crowd behind me. this is the unveiling of this memorial to honor the survivors of the holocaust, as well as the veterans who fought to rescue them from auschwitz and other nazi prison camps that were there. a lot of those here in the crowd are amongst those, veterans and survivors of the holocaust that came out for this.

you see the memorial, a 1,000-square foot memorial. it features two bronze walls and along is etched the story of a young boy who survived the holocaust. the walls meet in the middle to form the star of david. ohio's governor john kasich said at the unveiling he hopes it will remind others of what happens when we allow evil to exist. >> this is going to be a living lesson, not just about the past but it is also about the future. it is just -- i can't even describe the day, how wonderful it is and what it is going to mean for future generations. >> reporter: in that star of david was a big source of controversy for a lots of people. some atheist groups protested saying the fact it was being built on state grounds was a violation of the separation of church and state. a former state senator even resigned. he was on the capitol square board which approved the plan but he said because of the memorial's religious symbol he wasn't going to stick around to be a part of that.
