>> set your dvrs, six of bergdahl's platoon members on what really happened that night. welcome to hannity and this is a fox news alert. more and more details don't emerge about the night that sergeant bowe bergdahl reportedly walked off his base and was captured by the taliban in afghanistan and tonight sources are telling fox news that bergdahl left a note explaining he's disillusioned with the u.s. army and in particularly being an american. despite the growing questions surrounding bergdahl's capture in 2009 president obama defended his administration's decision. let's take a look. >> regardless of the circumstances, whatever those circumstances may turn out to be, we still get an american

circumstances basically don't matter. he went on to say even if these five taliban commanders wind up back in the battlefield, the administration will hunt them down. the republican john mccain said that's a curry now way to run foreign policy. >> i wouldn't do that if i thought it was contrary to american national security and we have confidence that we will be i position to go after them if, in fact, they are engaging in activities that threaten our defenses. >> i don't think the american people want their lives of their men and women in the military at risk on the premise that we could go after them again. is that the american national security policy? >> in fact "the washington post," abc news out with a new poll today suggesting the president's handling of foreign policy has dropped down to an all time low of 41% and on top of that this fresh crisis, bottom line sue have the cop two senators on the intelligence committee, republican saxby

7:04 pm
from the president, in fact, these prisoners will be moving around freely in qatar, the country in middle of getting these prisoners released from the guantanamo bay, and that number two after a year they are going to be able to leave qatar and, in fact, senior gulf official today saying that these five taliban prisoners can in a year go back to the battlefield in afghanistan which would be remarkable turn of events. >> ed thanks so much and especially for getting up so early in the morning to us. we have more details from the pentagon about this note that sergeant bergdahl threat night authenticate walked off the base in afghanistan five years ago. jennifer. >> reporter: sean, according to members of bergdahl's unit there was a letter left behind by him in which he talked about being disillusioned with the army and wanting to renounce his citizenship. that's the characterization of the letter by those who have seen it. the letter has not been provided

to us. some officials who have been briefed say they are not aware of any letter. that investigation did conclude, however, berg detaille with willfully walked off base. the army reached out to former members of bergdahl's unit to question them as part avenue investigation announced by the army secretary today and the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff today said he would not rule out investigating bergdahl for desertion. general martin dempsey urged people not to rush to judgment. quote in response to those of you interested in my personal judgments about the recovery of sergeant bowe bergdahl, the questions about this particular soldier's conduct are separate from our efforts to recover any u.s. service member in enemy captivity. this was likely the best opportunity to free him. as for the circumstances of his capture, when he's able to provide them we'll learn the facts like any american he's

taliban. according to a report in the "the washington times" special commanders shelved rescue missions because they didn't want to risk casualties for a man they believed to be a desert. guy taylor is here. what can you tell us? >> thanks. it's kind of perplexing to watch this unfold because the case of bowe bergdahl has been really very well-known within the clandestine community within washington the special forces community for really the last five years since he walk off. u.s. special forces have known since the beginning that that's what happened, that he had left his post. ultimately had drawn up rescue missions after the first three months when a handful of patrols in searches for him had been somewhat disastrous leading to, resulting in the death of about six u.s. soldiers in southeastern afghanistan, they
7:08 pm
were directly related to the searches. moving up the chain of command special force over the course of the next year and a half figured out roughly where he was and began drawing up mission plans to do a clandestine commando raid to take him. even coming down to figuring out to the number of soldiers, haqqani network, militants who were guarding him. those mission plans were ultimately shelved because there was a sense that the price of u.s. blood, the combat that would likely result was too high forgoing after someone who is deemed by the pentagon to have walked away from his post. you have to ask yourself if an american backpacker who wasn't involved in the u.s. military had gone missing in afghanistan around the same time and then been found to be held by the taliban or the haqqani network would the most elite special forces soldiers launch a commando raid and try to rescue
7:09 pm
that backpacker and i think you would find the answer is no. >> and this raises the question i spoke to the mother who lost one of her sons, she's very angry tonight. guy, thank you. for more on this developing story we turn to fox's own leah gabrielle. you served in the military. >> yes. >> so, you were a navy fighter pilot. flu f-18s. let me start with the father then we'll go the son. first let's go the father in the rose garden while he was there, literally citing the koran. let's take a listen to what he said. >> i would like to say to bowe right now who is having trouble speaking english -- [ speaking foreign language ] >> i'm your father, bo. people of afghanistan, the same. >> before i get to more -- problems speaking english? that's odd to me. >> it seems really strange but you mentioned i was an f-18 pilot. i served as an intelligence

7:11 pm
the had a canies and others who played a role in sheltering the american prisoner. we know our son is a prisoner and at the same time a guest in your home. we have wept that god may show his mercy and his peace may come on the people of pakistan. [ speaking foreign language ] >> earlier he said you have lost much and i feel sorry four loss but the loss he's talking about are those terrorists that want to kill americans. >> this is very upsetting and for anybody that lost a child that was on a mission that was potentially to recover him it's very upsetting. there needs some sensitivity here. these videos he's making are propaganda like videos of bowe bergdahl by the taliban that's propaganda. >> that's applicable in 9/11 but not the rose garden. >> we don't know what's happened with his father.
7:12 pm
it seems as though he's kind of gone native in this effort to get his son back. >> he tweet ad post just days before his son was released, knowing this is coming where he says i'm working to free all gitmo prisoners. god will repay for the death of every afghan child. i'm reading this what about every american that lost their life in this effort. >> absolutely. this has got to be very offensive to people who lost their children, their fathers, their husband, their brothers, their sisters. this has got to be very offensive to them and certainly to anyone who served. again i go back to this is a man who lost his son and i just -- i would be careful to criticize him too hard for any efforts he made to get his son back. >> let's go to the e-mail he sent to his parents. this is in june of 2009. u.s. army is the biggest joke. the world has to laugh at. it's the army of liar, back stabber, fools and bullies and goes on to say the few good

welcome back. there's mounting evidence tonight that newly released sergeant bowe bergdahl was not only a deserter but according to defense department officials he may have been collaborating with the enemy. my next guest is speaking out about his platoon mate. joining me is specialist john corneliusson. thank you for being with us. >> thank you for having me. >> everybody i talked to believed he deserted. is there any dispute about that? >> no. he deserted his post willfully and purposely. >> as far as we know in a talked to the parents of associate that lost their son earlier today, they are angry because why were we searching for a desert. we lost six !rsózpeople, six amn service people searching for a deserter. >> yeah. it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. we spent 90 days after he immediately left and there was extra assets brought over to us and there was increased activity

7:29 pm
>> well, sean, we hear that too often out of this administration about what difference does it make and i think the american citizens are getting tired of that. frankly men and women in the military are losing confidence in this administration's ability to conduct foreign policy in an appropriate way. here's the bigger concern for me and i really would like for somebody to take a look at this and answer it. was this done to take the va off the front page of the newspapers? absolute debacle that we've seen this administration not taking care of the men and women of our military and this kind of happened all of a sudden it seems like. congress didn't even know about it when diane feinstein and the republican counterpart are both saying that laws of our country were broken by the president not even giving them any indication they were going to do this. the question is what is this strategy here?
