because i signed on the line to die for my country. >> there is a sample of how some feel. the full exchange tomorrow. follow he me on twitter andlet me know what you think. i'm megyn kelly, thanks for watching. welcome to "hannity." there is a fox news alert. the man president obama traded five taliban terror rests for. according to documents, sergeant bowe bergdahl converted to islam and fraternized and declared himself a warrior for islam. joining us with explosive information is james rosen who broke this exclusive story a short time ago. james? >> sean, good evening. the documents obtained by fox news offer the most detailed realtime accounts yet known to exist chronicling what sergeant bergdahl's life in captivity was like and showed the relations
10:01 pm
with captors morphed from hostility when he was treated like a hostage to an animal to affection. these documents were prepared by the eclipse group, a private firm staffed by intelligence officers, a long-time cia officer best known for having been indicted and it was during his trial by the first president bush. eclipse was retained through a subcontractor by the defense department to provide intelligence on a broad range of top picks in challenging environments which came to include the bergdahl case. in august 2012 the agents produced a reporter, number 2023 that advised quote conditions for bergdahl have greatly relaxed six the time of the escape which refers to an attempted escape in june 2010. he converted to islam and described himself as a mujahid.
10:02 pm
bergdahl enjoys the freedom and engages in target practice with the local mujahid and bergdahl is allowed to carry a loaded gun on occasion. he plays soccer with guards, appears to be well and happy and has a noticeable habit of laughing and saying salaam repeated repeatedly. there is actually more than one but the most successful in june of 2010. the missing u.s. soldier was seen in the bizarre area of miramshah that seemed not to be tightly controlled. that would prove prothetic. a member of the fax that had control claimed the soldier was moved in early june 2010.
10:03 pm
about the 17th of june 2010 the soldier escaped but recaptured and taken back where he is being held by guards. he is in ill health and has been collapsing unquote. the terrorists were angry with the american prisoners and it shows that the network actually prepared a metal cage and confined bergdahl inside of it for some period of time. sean? >> normally, james, we would think maybe stockholm syndrome or severe case of ptsd. they say he was a deserter and heard the radio transmission and after he deserted, he was looking for the taliban. that would seem to mitigate that, no? >> every amer to the presumption of innocence until guilt is proven but all the intelligence professionals, military officers and others i spoke to suggested we just need more pacts, but this is a good
10:04 pm
set of facts to work off of and it could be there is stockholm syndrome and he was fainting. we need more information. >> his platoon members say he deserted. that's confirmed by all of them. thanks, james. >> thank you, sean. time magazine has a report what happened behind the scenes following the bergdahl trade and spoke to several taliban members and report that quote, as for the taliban inspired by the exchange to kidnap others, he laughed it's better to kidnap one person like bergdahl than kidnapping hundreds of useless people. it's encouraged our people. people will work to capture such an important bird. here now is aaron baker with us,
10:05 pm
aaron? >> hi, sean, great to be here. >> tell us more about this report because it makes sense, one of the first thoughts i had when this news broke. >> absolutely. i think it's an obvious decision by the taliban to say, look, a soldier is going to be valuable and now that is confirmed further that a soldier is a good thing to capture. one thing to note, however, that soldiers have always been a target for killing and capture for the propaganda value, as well and the difficulty of kidnapping a soldier is quite high. we've been in afghanistan on the bases, you can see the security, quite difficult for that to happen. they had an opportunity, jumped on it and profited. >> there was a report that local people saw this american walking unarmed in the area and they tried to give him food and water
10:06 pm
and warned him not to go towards the taliban. the radio transmissions seem to say he was seeking them out. >> without being there and without seeing for ourself, the language barrier and could have been disoriented and adventure. he's known to walk off base a couple times. this isn't the first time we know about. >> we have two other reports, one t"the new york postth"the n he wrote i'm sorry for everything here. these people need help. what they get is the most conceded country in the world telling them they are nothing and they are stupid. i'm ashamed to be an american and the title of u.s. soldier is a title of fools.
10:07 pm
i'm sorry for everything. the horror of america is disgusting. we have his platoon members saying he left his on his own and locals saying he was seeking out the taliban and as you look at the comments, it begins to make sense. >> there are people that say things off the record in afghanistan. that doesn't mean they are joining the taliban but they are upset, frustrated, living conditions are bad. >> isn't it compelling they intercepted radio communications that our military picked up and his own platoon members heard, there is an english-speaking man looking for the taliban? these are his platoon members saying they heard it with their
10:08 pm
ears. >> it could be condemning for him but until we talk and hear from him directly, i won't make assumptions. >> appreciate it. >> we go to ed henry traveling with the president and joins us tonight from paris, ed? >> good evening. so far the white house is quiet about this new bit of reporting that beau beowe bergdahl declar himself a warrior but the danger is this could undermine their case in terms of dealing with the prisoner swap, especially after susan rice had gone on the sunday show a couple days ago suggesting that bergdahl served with honor and distinction. this is coming on a day when the president was dismiss sieve of the story and followed him to europe. he was pressed at a news conference on the fire storm over the prison swap. today he was saying that bowe bergdahl's health was det deteriorating fast. he said he makes no apologies
10:09 pm
for it. his case was undermined a bit today but not a republican but leon who gave a speech a couple days ago saying when he negotiated earlier stages of the potential swap, he was opposed because he simply did not know whether or not these taliban commanders would go back out into the battle field and so when the president today suggesting that this was one of those phony scandals, republican john soon called him out and said congress should have been in the loop. listen. >> i'm never surprised by controversies whipped up in washington. all right? that's power for the course. >> this is going to harden positions of members of congress head that you can't trust these guys and clearly, this is another example of that where they broke the law, the notification requirement and did what they wanted to do irrespective of what members of congress thought and the requirement they had to consult with them. >> the problem for the president, there is a bipartisan
10:10 pm
course of krit sis skcriticism heat and so when white house aids today dismissed this controversy saying it was just being stirred up by obama haters. unlikeirs stories, you seen two controversies where there has been a lot of democratic outrage. that's different and that's why the white house is concerned about this, sean? >> ed, thank you. although bowe bergdahl was freed on saturday, he was not directly sent home. he's undergoing a three-face post captivity process. joining me with more to talk about it, the hannity big board is leah. there is a three-face process in terms of reintegration. phase one, immediate medical evaluation. >> the intelligence briefing will be through this process. the process was developed after
10:11 pm
vietnam to help people in captivity to kind of readjust to life. they want it to happen as soon as they grab him and he gets on a helicopter they care for medical needs, listen to anything he's saying because anything he says off the bat will be useful from an intelligence perspective. he's in phase two. >> by the way, you were an intelligence operator, special forces in afghanistan and f-18 pilot. you have background and experience. phase two would be more -- >> i was not special torss but served with special forces in afghanistan. want to make sure i clear that up. >> still very impressive. >> thank you. >> he's in face two. this is a part where he kept from his family. they can reach him by phone but usually kept in theater and this is where they get more into medical needs and start doing more of an in depth intelligence degrievi debriefing. it's an opportunity to gain a lot of intelligence in the way they operate.
10:12 pm
they will look to gain as much intelligence as they can. >> phase three they reunite with the family. why does it take so long and how long is the process from phase one, two and three. how long until he reunites. >> face two, three or more days and depends on the person and how they deal with things. you don't want to throw them back into the home environment. face three happens back at home and that will be a long process, you know, to help them understand what they have been through and what they are going -- how to continue to deal with that in the future. so there is no set times for these, but it's something to, like i said, gain intelligence, deal with their medical, deal with their psychological issues and help them to adapt after being through such a traumatic event. >> let me go back to this that he converted to islam and a warrior for islam. my first thought would be that maybe he is suffering from the stockholm syndrome, maybe -- look, we have 250,000 vets that have served multiple deployments
10:13 pm
that have ptsd. it's real for them. >> right. >> that's my first thought. the problem is we talked to platoon members and i interviewed them. they say the same thing, he left on his own number two, number two for the things he was saying, i'm ashamed to be an american and the title u.s. soldier is the lie of fools and then you look at the radio transmissions that is platoon members heard. >> right. >> an english-speaking man looking for the taliban and locals saying they tried to urge him not to go towards the taliban but we went anyway. >> right. >> it lessons the probability that's true. >> it's a tricky issue. i think that he's been through a lot. obviously, there were issues before he left. all his platoon members coming forward, that's not looking good for this guy. >> they are angry and passionate and angry. >> when you're someone who serves with someone and they are gone and it appears they deserted, we would be angry. it's understandable. >> we'll meet people together, their sons lost their lives
10:14 pm
looking for him. >> yeah. i do want to talk about what i can tell you about what i know of prisoners of war and when they are in captivity, they are trained by the military to stay alive. we don't know why he was doing what he was doing but everything that comes out of there is propaganda. everything the taliban puts out is propaganda. they want us to believe that. i don't know whether they did or didn't but they want us to believe that and his job is to stay alive. >> great reporting. >> coming up tonight here on "hannity". >> we saw an opportunity and we seized it and i make no apologies. >> his decision to release the five terrorists in exchange for bergdahl but what about the six men who died searching for bergdahl? do their families think of the commander in chief's comments now that fox news has documents proving he declared himself a warrior for islam. you'll hear from three heart broken parents when we continue,
