i hope you enjoyed our show and that you're learning to be more of a healthy you. see you next time. hello. i'm arthel neville. so glad you could join me. the deal to release the five senior leaders of the taliban from guantanamo bay in exchange for sergeant bowe bergdahl rapidly becoming a political flashpoint on capitol hill. many questions remain about his condition, both before and after his release by the taliban after nearly five years in captivity. so far, his parents reportedly have not been able to speak with him. meanwhile, the taliban five seen here in the photo are saying they intend to abide by the conditions for their release in the agreement hammered out

between the u.s. and qatar. amy kellogg is streaming live in doha with more now. >> it's understood the terms of the deal are that the taliban five can roam around somewhat freely. they can't leave the country. but they're not supposed to be liaising with those from their home but they issued a statement yesterday saying they fully intend to uphold their part of the deal and they thanked the emir of qatar for brokering the deal. it's been pointed out in interviews with experts on the region today that qatar has a lot at stake here and they don't want to be seen as ineffective. qatar's been building a reputation as a country that makes things happen but is secretive about how it gets the job done. it's taken heat from its neighbors about supporting the
1:32 pm
muslim brotherhood. it appears unclear at this point just where these five former guantanamo bay prisoners will be settling. some are suggesting they'll be in sort of five-star villas, this is based on speculation of local journalists. there's an undisclosed number of taliban fighters and operatives living here under the auspices of the qatari government. these five are not likely to stand out. but when you see things like this, a suicide bomb attack in afghanistan yesterday, it was an attack on a convoy carrying abdullah abdullah who survived. six other people were killed. the taliban iseved to have been behind that. but it is a reminder of how bold and how violent that group still is. and it does make a lot of people worried that the five here in qatar when their year of loose house arrest is over may go back to the battlefield.
1:33 pm
of course, a lot of that depends on whether or not they get used to the good life here. it's a very safe place. a lot of people have pointed that out to me. and you don't see security that you do in many countries and other parts of the regions with metal detectors before you go into hotels. that is an interesting aspect to all this. while there are all these taliban around here, many of whom have come to be involved in peace negotiations with afghanistan that haven't really happened, they are pretty much keeping it very low key here. >> thanks a lot for that report. a fox news alert, the ntsb now investigating the fatal highway crash that left comedian tracy morgan in critical condition. morgan was rushed by helicopter to a new jersey hospital where he's being treated for serious injuries. morgan was in a minibus with six other people when a tractor-trailer slammed into them around 1:00 a.m. new jersey state police say the

ukraine has a new president. the man known as the chocolate king, giving his inaugural address, vowing to put a stop to the russian annexation of eastern ukraine and calling on pro-russian forces to put down their weapons saying he won't talk to rebels. so what does the new president mean for a new eastern ukraine and the united states? bringing in now daniel halper.
1:43 pm
good to see you. >> thanks for having me. >> a forceful start, if you will. what's the first thing poroshenko must do to regain power and control of ukraine? >> things as you know haven't been going so well in ukraine for the last six months. the last president was effectively deposed and russia continues to occupy parts of ukraine. so i think the first step is obviously to try to brush russia a little bit off ukraine's back, which president poroshenko ran into vladimir putin yesterday in france and they apparently talked about a cease-fire. i don't know how receptive vladimir putin is to the idea of a cease-fire. but that's obviously the first thing that any ukrainian leader would want to do right now. >> you're talking about how he met putin at the d-day commemoration ceremonies in france? >> exactly. >> normandy. and poroshenko said, listen, we're not accepting russia's annexation of crimea. how does poroshenko stop putin
1:44 pm
from seizing more of his country? >> as you mentioned in your intro, poroshenko is called the chocolate king because he runs a big chocolate company. and he's had his brush with putin before. vladimir putin banned actually poroshenko's chocolate from russia last year and said that there were carcinogens in the chocolate which was completely phony and it was obviously a way of escalating and brushing ukraine back and trying to warn ukraine that they better not head more to the west and more pro-american, pro-european union. that obviously didn't work. it worked in a way. but obviously the leader lost his head over that. so i think what president poroshenko wants to do is show putin that he's got some muscle, that he can fight back, that he's not afraid to exert a little bit of power and hopefully they can come to some sort of peace agreement shortly. >> so in order to flex that
1:45 pm
muscle, poroshenko will probably have to have some support. so does poroshenko have a duty to send a message to european leaders as well as the u.s.? if so, what does he need to say to them? >> absolutely. he needs to say that he wants to work with the west, that he wants to be pro-european union and pro-american. and already he's had a little bit of help. the canadian prime minister was there today for the inauguration and so was the american vice president, joe biden. it would have been better had president obama showed -- himself had gone there. he was already in france yesterday for the d-day celebration. it's just a short flight over to kiev. he could have stopped by and wished him well, wished him support and said, we've got your back as you continue to fight the russians. >> how does poroshenko gain the trust of the people of ukraine and say that, i've got this? >> since they have some idea who he is, he's not exactly a stranger. so he needs to continue to do what he pledged to do, continue to stand up to russia, don't be
1:46 pm
intimidated, even if they start -- even as they hike the price of gas, even as they levy economic sanctions on ukraine, he will have to fight back basically. >> so will putin continue with whatever it is that he has up his sleeve? >> sure. putin's a thug and putin's not one to back off too lightly. he wants to maintain unrest there. he wants them not to move to the west. he wants them to do everything that he can to continue the unsettlement and he wants to maintain crimea and perhaps more of ukraine. >> be interesting to see how it plays out with the new leader there in ukraine in poroshenko. daniel, thank you so much for your time this afternoon. >> thanks for having me. a fox news alert, walmart now issuing a statement moments ago from their president here in the u.s. and the ceo, bill simon, regarding one of its
