phorpg crash on the -- saturday morning crash on the new jersey turnpike. >> let me tell you the latest. the truck driver had a previous twitter bio that read it's my road. move or get hit. for tracy morgan and his friends, those words haunting. morgan and friends were returning from a show in delaware when tragedy struck on the new jersey turnpike. officers say the impact killed morgan's good friend, critically injuring morgan and two others. morgan's limo driver recalls the frightening moments of that crash saying in an interview that he could hear morgan screaming for help but couldn't get to him. morgan is expected to remain hospitalized for several weeks after undergoing surgery on a broken leg. the "30 rock" star is

recovering from other injuries. the wal-mart truck driver charged by death by auto and assault. he was released on bail and due in court today. a spokesman for wal-mart says if their truck caused the accident wal-mart will take full responsibility. there-- the national transportation safety board is examining the crash to determine if the truck's safety issues are involved. last week the senate appropriations committee passed an amendment that suspends a requirement that deals with driver fatigue. meantime morgan's family says they are, quote, tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans. back to you guys. >> ainsley, thank you very much. was that his real twitter account or not?

>> in a limo you never wear seat belts. that is one place, when you're in a car like that for the most part you feel like you're safe. >> it is a big sprinter van. >> undoubtedly everyone was so much more aware of the roads around them. prayers indeed are what the family is asking for and we will send their way. >> four minutes after the top of the hour. we're learning more about bowe bergdahl's captivity as he recovers. there he is in the propaganda video released by the taliban a couple of days ago. apparently bowe bergdahl who is currently in germany at the medical hospital there recovering, he's been given the opportunity a number of times to talk to his parents. do you want to talk to your parents? no. he doesn't want to talk to them right now. that could be curious because shortly he's going to be transferred to a medical facility in san antonio, texas, where he will be reunited with his family. will he want to talk to them by then?

let's hope so. >> a tumultuous release for many in terms of whether the swap was worth it. plans for his return in his hometown were canceled. bergdahl did admit he was tortured by the taliban and kept in a cage after his attempt to escape is what his account is relaying right now. >> that was reported on friday, there was a customized cage. it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that he was tortured and it was horrific. there was a report on this channel that by the end of his captivity he was playing soccer with these guys and was able to carry a gun. who knows, after five and a half years of captivity, what you go through. i think it is disturbing to see -- and we'll talk about this later -- to see his unit that he was in attacked for telling everybody what it was like at that outpost. "the new york times" and some others said the

quality of that unit had nothing to do with what happened to bowe bergdahl. >> we've got a columnist who will be joining us about ten minutes from right now, talks about how just like we saw with benghazi, what's going on behind the scenes is the pentagon, the white house, state department are pressuring all these guys not to talk, had them sign nondisclosure acts and stuff like that. this guy, however, is talking. somebody else who is talking is john kerry. he was on cnn yesterday responding to, mr. kerry, you signed off on the release of these five guys. they are going to come back a year from now if not sooner and attack americans. secretary of state john kerry says that threat is baloney. >> i just think that's a lot of baloney. to whatever degree it may be true, they will wind up putting themselves at the mercy of those people who are very effective, who are there, who will deal with those matters. i'm not telling you that they don't have some ability at some point to go

back and get involved but they also have an ability to get killed doing that. >> meanwhile, he goes on -- i am very confused after listening to that interview. he goes on to say it doesn't matter; we're leaving any way. what are you talking about? if you think by us leaving and the taliban will come in and take over, it's not our problem anymore, that means for 13 years we fought a war to establish a government to allow people, girls to go to school, people have representative democracy, we're going to evacuate and think it will be over? we took their war council and put them back into action. 24 hours after their release, abdulla, there was an assassination against him, somebody we can count on. if you think that is unrelated, you have not been paying attention. you took five four-star generals and said you can go back in the fight. don't worry about them. i'm not saying they're going to come over to broadway and blow up a big building. what i'm trying to say is they are going to take out the city government.

doha. you can't help but worry about them in doha. and we have no information on how the united states is actually going to see that they remain in doha, that they make no comments, that they do no agitation. what's unfortunate is that i see no sign of the taliban relenting. >> for the chair of the intelligence committee in the senate not to have any idea, to have the same questions as anybody on the outside has is inexcusable. >> the same questions surrounding the condition of bergdahl. she thought he is not in dire condition as they initially stated. >> now the white house looks crazy because in the beginning they said we had to act right then because he was about to die. then they said he's in great shape. then they said we had to release him then because they were about to kill him.

no evidence of that either. let's see what the white house comes up with later today. >> let's wish heather nauert good morning. >> hi guys. we've got new information that came in overnight on that deadly las vegas shooting over the weekend. a married couple yelling "this is a revolution" as they gunned down two policemen at a pizza place in las vegas. police say the suspects ambushed these two officers, alyn beck and igor soldo as they were eating lunch. >> two officers with young families and a family of law enforcement who cares very, very much about them. >> police say the husband and wife then took the officers' guns, they walked across the street into a wal-mart store and killed one another before turning the gun on themselves. the motive for the deadly rampage is under investigation, but the suspects are believed to be white supremacists who allegedly planned on killing cops. we'll keep you posted on this as more information comes in.

the taliban claiming responsibility this morning for the deadly attack, a pakistan busy airport. the terrorists dressing up as police armed with machine guns and also a rocket launcher. they stormed an airport in karachi, pakistan, killing 18 people. the whole siege lasted five hours before police were finally able to gain control of the situation, killing all ten terrorists. the taliban saying the attack was retaliation after their chief was killed in a drone strike last year. back here at home, book tour, no problem. benghazi hearing? if there's time. hillary clinton says that she will have to wait to see if she'll testify in another benghazi hearing. the former secretary of state speaking to abc news while gearing up for that massive book tour. listen to them. >> going to testify? >> that's going to be up to the people running the hearing. i'm not going to say one way or the other. we'll see what they decide

the real bowe bergdahl story revealed. our guest says anonymous military officials said there is a bigger story in the media not reporting the real number of soldiers killed while searching for the sergeant and how far are the administration go into silence for former platoon members. expert and columnist bill robinson joins us today from the beautiful city of dallas. good morning to you, bill. >> good morning, steve. how are you? >> doing okay. let's start with the intimidation. who is being intimidated by whom? >> i received a call last sunday, sunday, june 1, from a man who identified himself as working for the pentagon. he told me that he had read my columns in the huffing ton post called "american hero stores" and he thought he could trust me. he told me that there was a bigger story that the american people needed to know, that the white house

in concert with the state department and the defense department, were orchestrating a campaign of threats and intimidation against not only the infantry men and the military men in afghanistan at the time, in 2009 when bowe bergdahl defected, but also against military officers and pentagon officers to keep silent about what really happened there. >> sure, because they didn't want the real story to get in the way of a really good photo op ultimately. and the real story has. one of the aspects is now we have heard, you know, we've heard a number of his platoon teammates say flatout the guy was a deserter. but we've also heard maybe six people were killed looking for him. your information is much different from that; isn't it? >> yes, it absolutely is. point number one is that both the soldiers that i spoke to and the pentagon official said that he was much more than just a

deserter. in other words, a deserter is typically somebody who shows cowardice in the face of enemy fire. they told me he was an out and out traitor. in other words, he was actively hating the united states of america. he was hating the u.s. army. he was talking about what fools his superior officers were and he thought he could do it better. he didn't just walk away. he actively went out and sought the enemy, and they said he was collaborating with the enemy during wartime. in terms of the brave soldiers that went out looking for this defector, they told me that many more people that were -- many more u.s. service men were killed. i took a look at the numbers because i think numbers don't lie, and in fact i found some really shocking numbers about the number of service men that were killed. bergdahl defected in july 2009. july 2, 2009. in the month prior, in

june, 24 u.s. service men were killed in afghanistan. just during july, after he defected on july 2, 44 were killed. it's an increase of 83% just in that one month since he defected. the following month 51 were killed. my sources were telling me that many more u.s. service men were killed as a result of looking for this traitor they said. >> all adds to the story that is finally coming out. bill robinson who writes a column at "the huffington post" with exclusive information. bill, thank you very much. it doesn't seem to get much better. 20 minutes after the top of the hour. there is an international manhunt underway for the man who used a helicopter to break out of prison. and get this, it's not the first time this has happened. he accidentally brought a toy gun to school and

continues to ship illegals from texas. >> a first grader in pennsylvania suspended after telling his teacher he accidentally brought a toy gun to school in his backpack. now his parents want that off their son's record. joining us seven-year-old david simak and his mother jennifer mathabell. jennifer, what happened and where were you when you heard about this? >> i had been at home and we received a phone call from the school notifying us that darin had a toy gun in his backpack. we went -- my husband went down to the school district and picked our son up, and we were notified that he would be suspended. >> darin, how old are you, bud? >> seven. >> first of all, i've got to give you a lot of credit for being up early right now. i think a lot of people are stretching and giving it a

good yawn. when you realized that toy was in your backpack, what did you do? >> i turned it in to the teacher. >> do you think you did the right thing by telling the teacher that you found it? >> yeah. >> do you think that was an honest thing to do? it was; right? that was the honest thing to do? >> yes. >> what did the teacher say when you told her, hey, i've got this toy in my backpack. i didn't know it was here. i'm just showing it to you. what did the teacher say to you? >> i don't remember. >> then you had to get home for a little while. jennifer, he was suspended. he's seven. you said he's going to school any way. then what happened? >> i sent him to school the next morning and i got a phone call that darin is not to be here.

i told them that he's got a right. he is entitled to be in school and he's entitled to be educated and that's what he will do today, so he was placed on in-school suspension. >> he wasn't allowed to participate with his class in activities? >> correct. >> did a -- darin, did you miss out on some fun things on that day? >> umm... yeah. >> probably. jennifer, what would you like now? is this on darin's record? he is a seven-year-old boy. it seemed he did the right thing. i know he's in a program to stop and think before you do something. seems like he did. what's your goal? >> we are definitely sending the wrong thing to kids that telling the truth will get you in trouble and get you suspended from school. my goal is to get this off his record. for telling the truth in a situation like this. i think the way he handled

did you hear about this story over the weekend? unbelievable out of canada. a well-planned prison break just like a plot from an action movie. >> what happened? >> welcome to con air. >> this morning a massive search is underway for a green helicopter that swooped in to help three inmates escape from a detention center in quebec, canada. police say they believe that the men didn't get far and could be hiding in a nearby forest. it's not exactly clear how they were able to slip past the guards. the three were awaiting trial on murder and drug charges. and this isn't the first time that this has happened in canada. something similar happened about a year ago. police have yet to make any arrests in the murder outside the bar that belongs to mob wife reality star big ange. the 47-year-old man who was killed was apparently trying to break up a fight when he was hit in front of

including new action i will take this week. >> okay. in a ceremony a couple of hours from now the president is expected to issue an executive order aimed at easing crushing student borrowers debt by capping repayments at 10% of their monthly income. >> but will this do anything to lower college costs and help students long term? we're going to ask stuart varney, who joins us. this sounds good. it's one of the things that sounded pretty good, was useful during election term. >> let me explain what the president is going to do today in conjunction with congress. he is going to extend the student loan debt forgiveness -- the forgiveness program, extend it to everybody. he's also going to make moves to allow you to refinance your student debt so you get monthly payments down and spread it over a longer period of time. the forgiveness program is enhanced. the monthly costs come down. he will say look what i'm doing for you, the

students. look what i'm doing for the economy. >> didn't he nationalize the student loan program? >> yes. >> our taxpayer money that lends the money to students. now he's going to extend the period at which they can pay back at a rate which is going to be less income. it is going to be based on their income? >> that is correct. what you've got here is the taxpayer footing the bill some way down the road, years down the road. and we don't know what that bill is going to be, but it is going to be a bill and the taxpayer will have to pay. meanwhile five months from the election the president gets the political kudos, being able to say look what i've done for the economy. look what i've done for the young people. vote for me. >> if he really wanted to help the young people, in addition to addressing the student loan program, is find them jobs. isn't that ultimately what it is? jobs out there. >> of course. we've been saying this for years. you give me 4%, 5% economic growth, i'll give you a lot of jobs and i will relieve some of the student debt

welcome back. comedian tracy morgan recovering from surgery this morning after being seriously injured in a car crash in a new jersey turnpike. tracy morgan has a broken nose, leg and ribs. of two his friends were also hurt. one was killed. over the weekend prosecutors filed charges against this wal-mart truck driver. they say kevin roper caused the crash after he fell asleep behind the wheel. it is a problem that is more common than you actually think. jane most her son in a similar crash in 2004 and now she's an advocate for tougher standards on trucks. jane, we want to thank you for being with us this morning. >> thank you, elisabeth. it's good to be here. >> certainly this brings up a lot of emotion, i can imagine,

as you lost your son, david, in 2004 to something similar. what happened that day? >> well, march 25, 2004, my son, david and his new wife, mary katherine forbes, were going back to saint augustine on i-95 from their honeymoon cruise. they just arrived back that morning in port canaveral. there was a lot of traffic on i-95 and due to a crash farther north, the entire roadway turned into a parking lot. so they were stopped. a truck driver -- this was about 10:00 o'clock in the morning. perfect visibility, no rain, there was no reason why he couldn't see this stoppage of the traffic. he just ran into the back of david's car and he and mary katherine were killed at the scene. apparently when he left the -- the truck driver left the truck, he said, what happened, what happened? and after a lot of

investigation, the only reasonable explanation was that the gentleman had fallen asleep at the wheel. this is a very common problem. i think that for over 7 years it's been an obvious problem. unfortunately it's not measurable like alcohol or drugs. so a lot of it is a subjective observation or if they admit it. interestingly enough, the federal motor carrier safety administration did do a poll of truck drivers with regard to fatigue issues and 65% of the truck drivers actually said that they had felt sleepy at some point overt past year and over 50% admitted that they had fallen asleep behind the wheel at some point in that last year. >> you hear that 50% and it's startling. no one should have to suffer the loss that you suffered or anyone else.

can this be regulated? i understand drivers, the incentive is get distance, so what can be done? >> there are different regulations, federal regulations there is an hour of service rule which defines how many hours truck drivers are allowed to drive. currently it's 11 hours in a 14 hour workday. and this ends up being about 70 hours a week. okay? well, that in itself -- >> it's impossible. >> absolutely beyond human capabilities. and unfortunately, there are a lot of drivers, getting back to the incentive to drive longer and farther, that go way past those hours of service. so that's when we have even worst crashes. >> absolutely. jane, we want to thank you for bringing this message. it's an important one. our hearts remain with you and there is more to be done moving forward. thank you. >> thank you so much.

today as lawmakers demand more answers surrounding bowe bergdahl's release. our next guest will attend that and has questions. joining us is adam kinsinger. welcome back. >> thank you. >> let's tap into your knowledge as a law maker and military guy. what questions do you have? >> i've got a lot of questions. first, i spent all week listening to the administration say we're a country that never leaves their people behind. we'll never leave you behind. that's all well and good, except when i went through survival training, we talked about the issue of being left behind. it was pretty much an understanding that as long as you don't leave your country hyped, your country will never leave you behind. so that said, we all know the questions around bowe bergdahl and the deserter status. why was it important to release five of the highest ranking opposition and taliban in order to get his release? what were you trying to accomplish? why did all of the intel community basically say no and why were they not consulted?

dollars in tax increases, $7 trillion in debt. mark warner supports cap and trade legislation and carbon tax and of course he not only voted for the affordable care act, but helped round up votes for it. i would take a different approach and i hadle put forward policies to create jobs and foster economic growth and upward mobility and help lift people out of poverty and we need that right now in our economy. the fact is by historic standards, this is a very, very weak recovery. in fact, negative 1% growth, not growth, but full 1 percentage shrinkage in our economy last quarter. >> sure. when you look at just the president's popularity across the country, he's not that popular these days. his approval ratings are way down. that ultimately is not going to help mr. warner and ultimately it could help you. >> there is no doubt about that, steve. the fact is senator warner, despite having told virginiaans he would be an independent voice for us in washington, d.c., surgeons out he has voted with
