we'll try it because we can. let's get to. good afternoon to you. before we get to all of that, while you've been watching gretchen, we've been watching a scene in the city of los angeles. this is a car chase that began at about 10:15 local time today. it went on for an hour and 15 minutes. he started in the downtown area, wandered around. cops said he was wanted for making criminal threats. police were this tow for the longest time. then he was on free ways and down on surface streets and in and out of housing developments. cutting off cars and everything you might imagine. at one point a local report said he might have had a weapon and then he made this turn and got out of the vehicle. see the red car there? he got out of the vehicle and there he is in his white jump suit or what appears to be and

look in his hand. you'll be able to see in a minute that is he indeed holding an assault rifle. so it didn't stop there. cops weren't right on his heels, so he left the car. you can see him there. and then he walks down the sidewalk. and see the top of the house there? that is the guy. in his hand is some sort of assault weapon. he stood there for a while. wandered around a few rooftops. as we look at the man there, the cops are off to the left on the other side of those houses. there are a bunch of them there, but they sees he has this assault rifle. he wanders around a bit and finally sits down. and then all of a sudden apparently it was time to get down off the roof. he's standing there for a while. we're all wondering what he's doing. down he went. this is near the 170 freeway in north hollywood not far from

12:04 pm
again this is in north hollywood not far from north canyon. while he's up on the roof, he appeared to be talking on what looked to us like an old school two way radio. he had it in his hand. and he was clicking the talk button it looked like and he was standing up there as if he was calling this backup or something. i know when he got off the roof, he had the gun in one happened a hand and what appeared to be a two would ray ay radio in the o hand and what appeared to be a two way radio in the other.appe hand and what appeared to be a two way radio in the other. so the police are all around this neighborhood. and they have a problem because this man has this big weapon and he's been getting on top of houses and such. they have place choppers in the air. clearly you news choppers in the air as is ours. i believe is this fox 11.

12:06 pm
police reportedly found swastika symbols at the suspects' home. we got word from the news conference, a neighbor says the husband hated president obama and the government. she also says the couple had a collection of guns and ammunition and, quote, don't tread on me, flags, everywhere in their apartment. >> people can talk. and they did. and they kept talking and kept talking and kept talking. and they did what they said they were going to do. >> tea party groups now use the don't tread on me flag. police say the suspects draped one of those flags over the body of one of the officers and put a swastika on him. the las vegas sun newspaper also reports the couple claimed to have protested at the standoff in nevada between the feds and cliven bundy. people at that ranch said, yes, they were there and among other things, they were very annoying.
