and opening the door to providing american support to the embattled iraqi government. welcome to a new hour of happening now. i am jenna lee. >> there is new fighting breaking out in northern iraq tie tikrit. meanwhile government troops are answering the call to defend the city. you are looking at vof what we are told iraqi soldiers lining up in the airport to buy tickets to go in and defend baghdad. so far nothing has stormed the sunni islamic terrorist leaving a trail of destruction. now iraq on the brink of collapse. the shiit led government is turning to the united states for help before a looming fight for baghdad and a fight spreading to

the east. jennifer has the latest from the pentagon. >> fox news learned that the request for u.s. air support came from the a l- ma lligovernment. they are busy working up options should the white house decide to act. unmanned and manned planes and few here think that air strikes are a viable option. the pentagon is pointing to the 15 billion in foreign military sales since 2005. to include missiles and a patche helicopter sales and later this fall we are still on track for the two f- 16s. there is a robust military to military relationship that we continue to pursue with the iraqi security forces and we are

insights on the health care poll. the 39 percent support the health care law and 53 percent oppose it. and as for the president's handling. 58 percent disapprove and 38 approve. his approval rate dropped down from froin percent to 39 percent. the president is said to be pushing democrats to run on obama care in november. chris, a big, big news day. why would the president push health care? >> i don't think and i don't know what bloomberg sources are. if there is one thing to do if you like obama care vote for me. but if you are a democrat in the senate. it passed by a single vote and

every single democrat senator can be said to be the vote between obama care passing or not. you want to neutralize the issue. and look at internals in the bloomberg poll. while people don't like obama care, according to the fox poll they have accepted it. only 32 percent said that they would like to see it repealed and 56 percent said they would like to see it with modificat n modificatio modifications. and there is a lot they do like. they like the idea that kids up to the age of 26 can stay on their parent's policys. and 65 say they like the idea that insurance companies are banned from cutting people off with preexisting conditions. and you are not going to it go out and say vote for me because i voted for obama care. you want to say we need to fix.

it but there are things that is okay. >> because there are a number of the people asking for a full repeal. less americans are saying full repeal of the law, how does that present a interesting strategy question for republicans? >> it is. one of the debates in the republican party. do you have to present an alternative or be against. repeal or replace? >> and these polling numbers indicate an alternative and not just against obama care, you got to say how you would fix it. >> on the immediate horizon, you have eric cantor's loss in virginia and he will step down end of july. and another leadership election, as players jockey out their positions on capitol hill. we saw the reaction from house

leadership on both sides, from boehner and pelosi. >> i ran my race in a way that i thought i should run my race. i will not analyze that race down there. im not going to analyze what happened in the election. >> i have sympathy for mr. cantor as he would want me to have for him. why are you laughing? >> not going to talk about it. nancy pelosi and her reaction. and where does that go from here, not only the republicans that have to figure it out but also for democrats? >> their reaction in the grin from nancy pelosi, look, we are going to argue that this shoes eric cantor is not conservative enough for republicans and they want to portray republicans out of touch of the mainstream.

and the results in virginia will make it easier for them to do that. interesting development today is that you have on one hand kevin mccarthy sewn as part of the leadership and he wants to move from whip to majority leader. but another conservative said he will not run and one person who will run in opposition to mccarthy is pete sessions. he is close to boehner and part of the leadership. he's chairman of the rules committee and even if sessions were to beat mccarthy, i don't know if it would be a big victory for insurgents. it seems like who ever wins the race for the establishment will be able to say they are still in charge. >> i know you will be talking about that on sunday. the big story is iraq.

we have a pressing issue of what is happening inside of the country of iraq. and the president not ruling out anything at this point. >> how dow think this plays out in light of the bergdahl prisoner swap and va scandal and focus on afghanistan and how does the president handle this? when? >> the best part of the question is when? they were caught flat-footed and they are talking about providing aid and you heard admiral kirby talking about we have some fighter jets that are going to get there in the fall. the islamic state of al-qaeda and syria are on the out skirts of baghdad. taking over mosul and tikrit. we are so far behind the curve,

the malak i. and president obama and top advisors, whatever aid to give them we should iraqi soldiers are on the run. you saw them in southern iraq trying to fly in baghdad to help defend. it but many more who took off uniforms and dropped their gups and fled for the heads. this is an army we tried to celt up and they have deserted and fallen away and we are paying the price for the fact that we never had the status of forces agreement to keep the americans troops to steady the iraqi forces. >> it is worth the prime minister{for help would not negotiate that agreement. but the criticism is heavy on the united states. he was not a partner in that. it will be interesting to see

here? i talked to a couple of little girls ten years old. and to have a child ten years old travel close to 1500 miles in central america that is concerns. i am a father and a grandfather and i could not imagine a ten yearole traveling that far to make it to the united states. i don't know if they were accompanied by relatives or who accompanied them. it is it a task. and so, being, coming in and then finding themselves here and then i hear the number exsowing 50,000 in texas alone. it is a monumental tack for border patrol and everyone involved. we need to get the answers from the countries find out exactly what is happening there. >> it is an excellent point. the numbers could be 100,000.

terrorist? >> well, look. the obama administration left three years ago and they didn't conclude a status of forces agreement or bilateral agreement with iraq and no training or intelligence and there was no advising. we just left and the problem is, hard- fought gains out of the surge that came at the cost of american blood and treasure in 2006 and 8 have been lost. and unfortunately, this is a cautionary tale for afghanistan. what is happening we are talking about getting out. arbitrary day for withdrawal in iraq and same thing in afghanistan. we'll see this movie in afghanistan in a few years. >> it is wassal- malaki. >> it lays at his feet because

a big headline coming in to fox news. bowe bergdahl, sergeant bowe bergdahl will return to the united states as of tonight. that's according to our producers over at the pentagon doing great reporting on this. bergdahl will arrive tonight at brook army medical center in texas. we don't have any other details whether or not he's had any contact with his family or whether or not his family will be there to meet him. and certainly a lot of questions still linger egg about this. ironic to get this announcement today after secretary hagel was on the hill yesterday answering tough questions from congressmen, jeff miller of florida asking secretary hagel why bergdahl hadn't been back to

the united states, pointing out some of our most traumatic injuries to our troops overseas, they immediately come back to the united states as soon as they're stabilized. secretary hagel took offense to that and said the inference was that this was political and that's why bergdahl was being held in germany. and the back and forth continued on that. in the meantime, multiple senior defense officials now say his arrival is expected some time after midnight tonight or early, early tomorrow morning. but the big headline is he's on his way home. that begins another whole stage of questions for what's ahead for bergdahl and also maybe some of the unknowns that we just don't have at this time. >> don't know if he's talked to his parents. they call it the reintegration process, the top psychologist and medical professionals will be attending to him after he arrives there later on tonight. >> more breaking news ahead on fox news. thanks for making time for us. >> "the real story" with gretchen carlson who's in los

angeles starts now. thanks, guys. we start with a fox news alert because fox news just now confirming that sergeant bowe bergdahl will be returning to texas. that's going to happen tonight. hi, everyone. i'm gretchen carlson. welcome to "the real story" today live from los angeles. he's going to leave a military hospital where he's been recuperating in germany for some time now. jennifer griffin live for us at the pentagon. what have you learned? >> what we know from multiple senior u.s. defense officials is that sergeant bowe bergdahl will be flown back to the u.s. tonight. he will be arriving, we're told, some time after midnight in the early hours of tomorrow morning. he will be taken straight to san antonio to the brook army medical center. we do not expect to see him on his way into the hospital. in fact, we've been told by multiple officials that they will not give
