prime minister tony blair. but he shot back overnight in an op-ed. here's what he said, every time we put off action, the action we will be forced to take will ultimately be greater. instead of re-running the debate over iraq from 11 year ago, we have to realize that whatever we have or have not done, we would be facing a big challenge today. by all means argue about the wisdom of each decision. but it is decisions now that will matter. >> it's a slam on leadership. not only on iraq but the inaction on syria or air strikes in libya, which has led that country to descend into chaos or doing nothing in the situation of syria. and now iraq. >> 2800 words is how long the essay was. he mentioned not just that barack obama ordered the troops to leave iraq too soon, but

america and britain needs to launch some sort of offensive against iraq and against syria. also, al qaeda was beaten in iraq and it will be an iraqi bundled government to let al qaeda back in. we have won this war and the aftermath of not leaving ground forces there to make sure the government was going to get on its own two feet and grow its own two legs, we blew it. let's listen. >> this administration is obscuring. we had that war won. thanks to the surge and thanks to general petraeus. and we blew it and took everybody out and didn't leave a force behind, and that's a tragedy. because you lost over 4,000 brave americans. >> tony blair said that is a direct slam on president obama. tony blair was not just a u.s. allie, he was the key u.s. allie through the first decade of this

bowe bergdahl is stateside. the military is wrapping up their investigation as to why bergdahl left his base in 2009. the army has a two-star general on the case, but not everybody thinks that's a good idea. >> this is ridiculous in the face of it, to put a two-star general in the middle of the investigation that could be done, was done by a lieutenant back in 2009. >> bergdahl is reportedly telling officials in texas that he went two straight years without seeing another human face as the taliban had him locked in a small cage or hooded. and those treating him say that based on his physical and mental condition, that is a believable charge. now, looking outside the army's officialinquiry, many details are coming out to see what bergdahl was thinking. especially e-mails he sent to friends before he disappeared. and they include this partially coded line, quote, lines not too

good here. tell you when i have a secure line about plans. and there's this one, quote, this life is too short to serve those who compromise value and its ethics. i am done compromising. the two-star general won't be named until a formal announcement is made. and it is not clear when bergdahl will be questioned as part of the new irqnquiry. just that things will get started next week. just how bad are these guys we swapped for bowe bergdahl? we are getting insight from a former gitmo intelligence officer. not just any, he's a former senior gitmo officer, paul rester. he was here talking about one of these guys, fasul, there he is on the far-right side of the screen. he lays it out in cold details. listen. >> fasul, as the senator said,

and this is important leadership. they are just getting back. if you can show the five again, the second one there, al-nuri, a family member says he vows to continue to fight and can't wait to get back to afghanistan to continue to try to kill americans. >> there's one less son from the chaos in iraq right now. when they leave an occupation, it is hard for them to stand on their own. that's going to happen very soon. by the end of 2016, these guys will be back in the afghan government. if these guys are coming back into your country, how do you feel about that? it is reckless of afghanistan and for us. >> and after the most money spent in the american history, that's what we have to show for it. >> we are moving these guys back to afghanistan? that's going to work well. unbelievable. we'll bring you the headlines this morning.

>> we'll get right to this from overnight. the israeli military arrests nearly 80 palestinians in the search for three missing teenagers including an american. officials believe the trio was abducted while trying to hitchhike in the area's west bank. those include members of the militant group hamas. with the search intensifying, the israeli military says palestinian terrorists will not feel safe. yesterday we told you how the i.r.s. claims they lost two years of lois lerner's e-mails to and from the white house. it turns out that's not the case. the i.r.s. guidelines require all employees to keep printed copies, so hard copies of any work-related e-mails. that means even if lerner's computer crashed she should have the copies. and if not, she's been violating i.r.s. rules. lerner headed the i.r.s. division for tax exempt status. it is accused of targeting conservative groups, if you remember. is this what college

welcome back. acting v.a. secretary sloan gibson totally lost his cool when talking about v.a. employees getting fired and about bonuses. >> the fact is we have 340,000 people and the vast majority of them work really hard to do the right thing. that's why we have veterans well served the vast majority of the time. have we got problems? yes, we do.

>> what sparked that outburst? a question by our next guest. joining us, retiring u.s. marine and reporter, thomas brennan, and north carolina state director of concerned veterans for america, kathleen volt. what exactly set the secretary off? what was the question? >> there was a very valid, quantifiable question that required u.s. brennan, a marine asked secretary gibson, and he basically said that bonuses were more important than repurposing bonus money for suicide prevention. >> huh. you noticed that he was emotional in that response. thomas, were you surprised by his reaction to your question? >> i was extremely surprised by his reaction, especially knowing he's a veteran himself. there was a suicide epidemic facing the veteran community right now. and him standing up for people who have deep parts in the government and taking money by

falsifying documents rather than stding up for veterans suffering from mental crisis is completely wrong. so, yes, i was completely surprised. >> so you would think he would be emotional on half of the veterans, the v.a., has designed to serve. the fayetteville medical center had an average wait time of 83 days. that seems to me the kind of thing an acting secretary, kathleen, would be emotional about. not defending the bonuses of his employees. >> i was completely stunned by his reaction. it was monumentally wrong on a number of levels. and for him to back the v.a. employees, where nobody is attacking the v.a. employees, we need to fight for veteran care right now. it was outlandish, inappropriate and inprounpunprofessional.

>> why shouldn't we be mean to people who are rude to veterans at v.a. facilities? >> we should go on the offensive when something like this happens. what happens if mr. gibson was stopped in the hallway and a patient asked him the same question i did? would he have responded the same way to a veteran in a wheelchair? i don't believe he knew i was a veteran myself, but his response should have been much more professional regardless of the situation. >> you're the one and i'm the one and kathleen, you're the one funding this. for his loyalty to be to his employees rather to the public he supposedly serves is really telling. kathleen, thank you for joining us this morning. i appreciate your light on this situation. >> thank you. coming up, why a daughter's

engaged dad makes a huge difference in a daughter's life. that's what it comes down to. >> making each daughter unique, how do you do that? >> different allowance, different bedtimes. daddy/daughter dates. >> different allowances? >> oh, yeah, for kids. >> monetarily different allowances or allowing them to do different things. >> in america we think treat everyone the same. that's disrespectful. the state is going to treat your kid different. 16-year-olds driving, 14-year-olds wishing, 9-year-olds dreaming. >> keep the critical eye at bay. what does that sneep. >> well, a lot of people, men, love to tell women want to do. wives don't like it and kinds don't like it. the critical eye is a dad that finds a flaw. your kid brings home a homework, hey, what's with the "b"? that's critical eye. five a's and a b, that makes you feel great inside.

looks like all the work you did is paying off. tremendous difference. the critical eye spawns a procrastinator. if you are a grown woman and procrastinate and love piles, you have a critical eye father or critical eye mom. >> it reminds me of the john mayer song "daughters." another thing that is important is to listen to her. >> you women love to share, communicate, you have 3 1/2 times the words that most men use in a day. just listening to your daughter. here's a key, don't ask your daughter questions. that puts people, kids, on the defensive right away. say, honey, can i ask your opinion about something? when you say to a daughter, honey, can i ask your opinion about something? what are you saying? >> it takes your defenses down a little bit. >> and i value what you think. most of us as men, my kids say, dad, you are not wearing that outside, are you? most men could use a little help

from the feminine side. >> why is it so detrimental to not have that father's influence later in life? we have all dated women and if some are off a bit, could it have something to do with that? >> that femininity was not affirmed. every good woman needs a good dose of masculinity. when she has a dad who has her back, she'll have a positive attitude about herself. if she doesn't, clayton, she's going to bring home, you know, a loser with a capital "l." a guy who will mistreat her. and this explains why so many women go from a rat to a super rat to ultra rat in relationships. why? because they don't feel good about themselves. where do they get that from? if you are a self-esteem chaser out there, there are a lot of parents that are, learn to have positive expectations for your kids. treat them different.

eight months of this fiscal year. and that's not -- 47,000. it used to be five times less when looking at 2011, 2012 and 2013. there's something happening. you can point at the confusion around the immigration process, look at washington, we have not figured it out. but also there's economic distress in the country with the kids coming through. honduras is the most violent country in the world. and a lot of the kids when they arrive are fleeing for two reasons. one, their parents are here and are looking to reunite with them. or number two, they are just trying to escape the gang activity that is going on there with kids. so it's a complex issue, but unfortunately we are picking up the tab for all of it. >> there's an awful lot of poor and violent countries around the world, really poor and violent. most of the world is poor and violent, but it doesn't make it our responsibility to take care

our son, we asked to adopt him eventually when he was able to be adopted. and we ended up getting a call about a week ago that he was ready for adoption and for us to come pick him up. he had to go through various tests to make sure that there's no ptsd for the dogs. and his temperament is also not aggressive because he is going to become a family dog now. so there are some tests we had to wait for to make sure he cleared all the tests. >> well, and your son, staff sergeant christopher diaz, also left behind a 9-year-old girl mia and 8-year-old bow jeremy. i understand they are calling daily to see how daddy's dog is doing. what does it mean to have dino in your home? >> go ahead. >> well, it's part of -- not a replacement, but it's wonderful because dino is the last part of what christopher took care of. he fed him out there and watered

him and loved him. and christopher hugged him and slept with him and played with him. so it's great that we have some of the love that christopher passed on to dino and dino is passing it on to us. it means a lot to us. >> that's such a sweet and heavy story. he looks like a sweet dog, is he? >> oh. he is. he is very rambunctious. the thing is, a lot of families ask us how he is doing, and he's doing awesome. a lot of dog handler friends of christopher's have stated that christopher lives in dino. he has a lot of characteristics of christopher. >> there he goes! >> it's wonderful to see that he does good. we love him. and it's like he's always been part of the family. >> he's stubborn, though. when he doesn't want to do something, he will let you know he doesn't want to do it.

especially in the democratic party, but some republicans as well who say the last thing we want to do is get involved in the quagmire of iraq again. so it's a tough call. politically, i would say people don't want to see us get involved in iraq again, but you have the threat of regardless whether they take baghdad, that isis, too violent for al qaeda, is going to have the stronghold across northern syria and western and northern iraq a kind of safehaven, a base of operations to planter roarist attacks. that could be a real threat to the middle east and quite frankly to the u.s. homeland. >> there are reports this morning that isis is getting funding from saudi arabia and the gulf states, but i don't know if that's true. do you believe the administration is hoping they stop funding the group? >> well, sure. but when you take over a city like mosul, a city of 2 million, they rob the banks and get
