9:01 am
giving. >> the president takes more heat from republicans today over iraq as ominous images were released to the world, a 21-intape, believed to show the leader of the islamist takeover. one iraqi intelligence official told the associated press, the initial analysis saying it's baghdadi speaking at the mosque. here at home experts say it's what you might expect after the u.s. pulled out of iraq. >> when the united states leaves a vacuum, others will go fill it, bad actors will show up. and my greatest concern is for what he intends to do and i think they have the capability and the intent to attack the united states.
9:02 am
i want to know what the president's plan is. >> president obama has sent extra security forces to iraq to protect u.s. interests there, and to help protect iraqi citizens. the president doesn't appear to have a plan and mccain is calling for air strikes, but democrats are defending the president's actions to far. >> i think he's shown strong leadership h shiship in the reg think focusing on i skrsis as t threat. i think the president's taken the right steps so far. >> casey says the u.s. troops in iraq can no provide a better intelligence assessment and he acknowledges other steps may need to be taken in the future. >> thanks for that report, steve. and for more on the threat posed by the sunni terrorist group isis, wire joined by lisa,
9:03 am
a fox news contribute for. isis is more of a desecret actor. forget what's happening in the middle east, how does this affect folks at home? >> two words, national security, we're seeing that this is jihad 2.0. they're not afraid to go on social media and put out videos and to recruit. we already know that thousands of americans are in syria, in iraq, they're volunteering themselves. these are american passports, these are people who havemakinge internet and all of these different platforms. you have to look at what this agenda is. it's to impose sharia law. they're going step by step.
9:04 am
what's the next step? get rid of american influence in the region. and what's the next step after that? to start launching attacks. >> so we're taking these folks at face value when they say they're continuing to do what they say they're going to do week by week, fulfilling these promises. this is a picture that we cannot confirm, it appear s to be baghdadi. >> look at the audacity, the fact that they haven't verified the video yet and we're going to be careful and say we're going to wait for that confirmation, they haven't been shy about putting their agenda out there up to this point. why should we believe that we would make this video and put this statement out there. we saw the same thing -- they're not hiding in pakistan, they're not -- this is new school jihad.
9:05 am
>> and probably the fact that there's -- the split is happening between the sunni and shiia there that can be turned into what's certainly called the civil war. they're not afraid of what they're doing. that's fanning the flames that are already pretty high. >> we saw this before where extremists are burning down and taking down religious sites. the shiites are doing it to the sunnis and the sunnis are doing it to the shiites as a symbolic move and they're not afraid of putting these very graphic pictures who find these sites to be totally for them. >> give us the sunni shiia split. you haver ran, who supports nuri al maliki, you have a proxy war being raged right now, how does this spread and affect the rest of the world as it goes on?
9:06 am
>> they both are crying for influence, you have iran wanting the shiite influence. i started in syria and now it's coming into iraq. what was going on for a very longtime, as you said, is this proxy war and they're not after cities, even though they're going city by city, and very strategically started in iraq. they want to spread sharia law and their sunni influence. >> and that is the alleged picture of the leader there as you pointed out. they're in mosul giving a speech, you have to think of taking this guy at face value if that's what he wants to do. as bleak as the picture is, it is good to get that view of it. lisa, thank you very much.

a deadly terror attack in kenya. gunmen killed 22 people on the coast. it is the same place where militants linked to al qaeda took responsibility for killing 65 people last month. the attacks come as tensions rise over a planned mass protest by the opposition on monday to urge the government to address security concerns, the increasing cost of living and government corruption. fox news can confirm that six jewish suspects have been arrested in the abduction and murder of a palestinian teenager in east jerusalem last week. police discovered the charred remains of the 16-year-old and police say it's a revenge killing. it's also sparking widespread violence in areas of jerusalem and also in the arab communities of northern israel and today that country's ambassador to the united states was on fox news sunday, weighing in on the

investigation. >> if he are jews that have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the crime. there will not be public squares in jerusalem that will be named after them. schoolboys and schoolgirls will not emulate them as heroes. and that's exactly what we have on the blin side. >> this story continues to develop as the violence continues in israel. we'll keep an eye on it and bring you the very latest. the obama administration and lawmakers on capitol hill may be at an impasse on immigration reform, but it's front and center across america right now as thousands of illegals, many of them children pour across our southern border. one california town this past week pushed to the crisis, making it a boiling point. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle talking on the talk shows

today on the growing humanitarian crisis. >> as time goes on, tensions heat up, so do the critics who feel washington needs to do more. while the administration says that washington asked congress for ice attorneys, many are pushing for immigration reform and immediate action on the border. >> the thing this administration sneeze needs to doo-they're creating a crisis at this time but it's actually going to harm these children. >> these rule of law is that the constitution requires the united states to secure the border, and we're not doing that, we haven't done it for years and we are paying a huge price. >> secretary jay johnson

defending the administration today. while he says the border is not open to mass immigration, he could not confirm that the mass amounts of people, specifically children will be deported. he did say however there will be action. >> there are a number of things that the president and i within the confines of existing law can do to fix the broken immigration system and if congress doesn't act, we will. >> the president is evaluating action items while the legislation stalls on capitol hill. there are new rev likes in the nsa spying scandal. according to documents provided by edward snowden and "the washington post," the agency was spying mostly on ordinary americans between 2009 and 2012,

new york mayor bill deblasio said that we are -- two civilians suffered minor injuries. the cause is under investigation. meanwhile fire officials are now returning to the scene of yesterday's deadly row house fire in philadelphia. they're scouring for clues that caused the blaze that killed three 4-year-olds and a baby. the fire may have begun on in a couch on the porch. 32 people were displaced by the fire. >> the defense team for oscar pistorius, outrageous showing the blade runner re-enacting the night his girlfriend reba steencamp was shot to death. he was seen standing without his

prosthetics, pointing his finger like a gun. the circumstances as to why the video was shot and why it has not been shown in court is not clear. pistorius is accused of murderimurder ing steincamp. dav phillip, i want to start with you on this. who or why would they release this video? who did it and why? >> well, my suspicion is that it may very well have come from the defense team, clearly they had to know it was made because it was oscar pistorius himself that you see in the video. so clearly they know that he did it. i these it was a mistake. i these that what it shows is that he was negligent at least in firing behind a closed door.
9:17 am
as a former police officer, i can tell you that's not how you use weaponry, and if it's deemed as negligence by the court, they can convict him. >> the defense team is claiming they're outraged. this video is going to air sunday night on an australian television network. >> the video is a re-enactment, i'm assuming that it was made by the defense team to re-enact. it seems that they have made a decision not to show the video in court. so the video is not going to convict anyone because it's not going to be shown in court according to the defense team right now. maybe somebody who made the video had leaked it therefore that would bring up the civil lawsuit which is what the defense team is speaking about. >> phillip, do you buy that? that perhaps the defense team decided we're not going to bring this into court but now this production company who has shot it, they signed off on it, they
9:18 am
being oscar pistorius and his team. >> i think this is not genuine outrage by the defense team. if you look at the overall flavor of the video, it's very favorable to pistorius and it might be an effort to sway the court of public opinion in their direction. >> that's exactly what i was thinking. >> if the defense doesn't use it, the prosecution might use it because i think there's incriminating things in there. >> but david, can the prosecution get a hold of it? i understand that the television station had to pay for the video. >> it's a defense video made in preparation for the defense of the case, the prosecution cannot use the defense video in this particular matter, and the video is irrelevant, the video would only be admitted into court. like any other piece of evidence that's brought into court, that's showing the equivalent of a diagram. so the bottom line is the defense has chosen at least for
9:19 am
court. >> why would they want it out in the public in australia, it's not even south africa? >> they're saying they did. but it could be true if they did leak it, maybe they want to influence the court of public opinion. >> they don't make a decision, though. >> i believe what happened is the video must have been stolen and now it was -- now it's being produced in this documentary. we're only surmising right now. i have no idea. >> let me go to the psych evaluation dated june 27, 2014, that is released to the public. again, what's the motive of releasing oscar pistorius's psych evaluation. >> they want to show that he's experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder and things like that. but what is really key is his state of mind at the time of the
9:20 am
shooting. what they want to show is that he does not have this -- when the shots were fired, not how he's doing after the charges were filed. but what was in his state of mind at the time. >> the judge is going to make the final call here, why would this be released to the public? >> well, it's just like all the other items of evidence, i think they are being sort of leaked to the press, they are given to the press, they're being -- there's really nothing that's being hidden. this came out, i think last week, what the document was going to show. so the motivation behind it, you just have to speculate, but it has to influence the court of public opinion. >> this is a piece of evidence in the case. general anxiety disorder was brought out through the testimony in the case. that's why we have the document now. it's a defense theory that he suffered from generalized anxiety disorder. >> thanks for your analysis.
