9:00 am
we are back here next sunday mornings, 11:00 and 5:00 eastern on the latest buzz. fox news alert, governor rick perry again calling on president obama to send in the national guard to deal with the massive influkt of illegal immigrants. if you don't stem the bleeding, the size of this crisis is going to be more monumental. >> meanwhile elected officials in illinois and nebraska, two states that you know are far from the u.s.-mexico border. they are now accusing of the obama administration today of -- the feds even refusing they say to detail the exact location that the children are being sent
9:01 am
to. all this as capitol hill appears to be unable to come up with any kind of deal to give the much needed money to our border patrol agents who are struggling to deal with this growing crisis. here's the very latest live from washington. >> as you guys mentioned, governor rick perry now calling for the national guard to help deal with that continuing immigration crisis on the mexican border. perry said today on fox news suchb sunday that the influx of children to the taking away from their job of -- >> i appreciate is the time that the president gave me to listen about what's going on at the
9:02 am
border. i do think he should go to the border and take a look at this, just like a number of his colleagues and a number of us on the republican side want us to. >> the president did not visit the border when he visited texas last week. the president's asking for nearly $4 billion in extra spending in order to deal with the border emergency. >> here's the problem. we spend $18 billion a year on making sure that the federal government has him immigration enforcement agents. you got to put money also into your judicial system and you've got to put money into a comprehensive program that deals issue. >> so far an estimated 50,000 children have flooded the board in just the past few weeks. now we have some new video to show you from fox news.com
9:03 am
that shows people being caught by the u.s. border patrol. fox news.com captured this footage while on assignment in texas apparently revealing just how many people and how easy it is to sneak across the border. about 30,000 people are doing that every month and those numbers expected to rise just in the coming months. we'll continue our coverage of the immigration crisis on our newscasts today. air strikes on gaza and confirming a raid on the ground as the military warns civilians in gaza to evacuate their homes. launching a barrage of air strikesal from mill tachblts firing more than 800 rocket into israel. meanwhile israel is calling for civilians in north gaza to leave. israeli prime minister blaming
9:04 am
the ongoing military offense in hamas blame -- >> we're using missile defense to protect our civilians and they're using their civilians to protect their missiles. this can be achieved through diplomatic or military means, whatever military means we'll do whatever is necessary. i have spoke on the president obama in a good number of world leaders, i think they all understand israel's inherent right of self-defense. >> fox news team coverage right now, and david lee miller on the israeli border with gaza. first let's go to john hutty in gaza city. >> we're hearing cannon fire right now from presumably navy carriers off the coast.
9:05 am
this happened early this morning, last night in new york as well when we saw on sense firefight when as we know now israeli official troops were on -- maybe about a quarter mile half a mile north. developed into heavy artillery and air strikes and this lasted, it was an intense fight for probably 45 minutes or an hour. we were reporting to you live on air when this was happening, it was first time that we heard froops on the ground. we thought we were caught in the cross fire when we saw tracers and sounded like the hiss of bullets goinging overhead. now yesterday, the israeli military started warning people in the northern part of gaza to get out, to evacuate, to seek shelter in safe places and so far more than 6,000 people have sought refuge in various places.
9:06 am
six here in gaza city, we went to one of them today, we saw families, children, hundreds of people who brought anything they possibly could carry, clothing, food, valuable and personal items. one woman said she was terrified last night, grabbed her children and escaped from her home as fast as she could, the question is will there be another ground assault. the pattern is when the sun sets and it gets dark, that's when things really happen. >> israel saying it's defending itself as troops and tanks line up on the boarder and it's unclear how long the attack will last. >> reporter: from our advantage point along our boarder here, overhead we can hear israeli jet aircraft, there's also the regular boom of artillery being fired nearby.
9:07 am
and today for the first time, militants in gaza fired their longest range rocket yet during this conflict targeting the israeli city of najari onajara under astack before, but this is the first time it has been fired on by rockets in gaza. from one end of the country to the other, no israeli is out of reach from hamas. also today, residents in the city of tel aviv ran for cover after hearing air raid sirens. a 16-year-old was seriously injured by a rocket. throughout the day there were roshl rocket attacks going off in several israeli cities.
9:08 am
he said the iron dome is one thing, but you have to have impb discipline. israeli forces remain in position along the border waiting for orders for a ground incursion if one should occur. as the violence continues, today the israeli military allowed a supply of emergency blood to cross the border into gaza for civilian use. just a few days ago, they allowed some 200 trucks to cross the border carrying supplies, food and fuel.
9:09 am
>> dwoor, as you have been reporting e israel sent in a small group of commandos. do you think this could lead a full scale invasion of gaza? >> i don't think it's a full scale invasion in the sense of tens of thousands of troops going in for a limited period of time and coming out. the question is whether they can find and destroy hamas's extensive range of equipment. the command and control and communications infrastructure at the top, hamas leadership, you know, it's not just in one place, all of these things are in multiple blaplaces and to ma it even more difficult, they're moving around all the time.
9:10 am
i think israel has learned from prior incursions that you can't go in once and act like the job will go away. >> i think this shows rather clearly why this evidence to go in and kind of neutralize hamas's capabilities just perpetuates the type of violence israel likes to talk got. i think israel would be fully entitled here not just to respond to the missile attack, but to destroy hamas. that's what the problem is. this terrorist group is determined to eliminate israel, that's its objective. and when you consider hezbollah
9:11 am
operating out of lebanon in the north with the same objective, it's very hard to see why israel has been restrained as it has been other than u.s. and european pressure. >> iran apparently is backing it. tehran sending those missiles can can now hit tel aviv, what is iran's goal and how do you with dismachntle ham mass when they've got the backing of tehran. >> i think israel could do it. but i think it's constantly worried that it really does under take an operation, in my mind it's perfectly entitled to do. the rest of europe and the united states will put pressure on them and they will lose their allies, in fact what israel is faced with is a never ending
9:12 am
series of pressures that every day that goes by, iran gets closer to nuclear weapons. all the equipment that iran has given to hezbollah and hamas are being put there in anticipation of retaliating against israel. >> iran apparently supplying hamas with those rockets to hit israel. diplomats meanwhile are arriving today in vienna to try and stop iran from possibly building a nuclear bomb. we'll have more on the talks, they face a dead line next sunday, will they meet it? what will happen. [ mrs. hutchison ] friday night has always been all fun and games

9:16 am
bring -- for the latest round of nuclear talks with iran. >> ambassador, do you think these talks will stop iran from getting nuclear weapons? >> no, i don't any there's any chance of that. -- whether to adhere to a six-month deadline they signed in january. that agreement extends for six months. i tell you, i fear that if they reach a final agreement by the deadline, it will be because the united states and the europeans have made disastrous concessions to the iranians, so my best outcome out of the meetings this week will be that six-month postponement. >> and what will that mean?
9:17 am
>> that's bad news too because the iranians would simply continue to do what they have done during this first six months, breaking through the sanctions regime, the economic sanctions imposed on them. and finding ways to play for time. the whole process is tilted toward iran's perspective and really gives them an advantage, both in the work that they're able to do on their nuclear program and the political legitimacy that these talks confirm. >> you know, tehran is denying it wants nuclear weapons. and benjamin net tananyahu said course. >> a good deal is what was achieved under president bhaum, the united states cooperating with russia, in the case of syria. they didn't tell us, okay, you can keep your chemicals and the
9:18 am
means to convert these chemicals int into chemical weapons, and we'll inspect, that's what the iranians are expecting. that's not what the deal in syria was, you actually d dismantle these capabilities. >> do you think that tehran will ever dismantle anything forever? >> of course not, that's why i think the administration made a critical mistake some time back in acknowledging that iran could keep a quote, unquote, peaceful nuclear program, you can't trust the iranian regime any more than you can trust the -- it's not going to happen in the case of iran, i'm just -- the real outcome if they continue the negotiations for another six months is we're just kicking the can down the road. >> kicking the can down the road, next sunday and we'll be

country say they've been in the dark about thousands of immigrants being sent to their communities from texas. what's to be done about all of this? david good to see you and we're going to get right to it. governor perry says for four years kn years now he's been asked for 100,000 national guard troops to ward off the impending crisis. he says the first thing you have to do is stop the bleeding, restore the border. >> part of what governor per is saying is that now so many federal agents have been diverted to the immigration crisis. but this puts the president in a little bit of a bind because bringing in the national guard has sort of a symbolic
9:24 am
resonance, it sounds like he's militarizing this problem and there's plenty of people on the left of his own party who think he's already being too aggressive, that some of his critics on the democratic left call him the supporter in chief and think he's going a little bit too far. >> so it's a conundrum? >> the president's getting hit from both sides in the democratic party. the republicans are sitting back and looking at this to be honest with a little bit of a plea that the president is caught between -- is creating a split in the democratic party between those on the left who as i say think he's being too harsh on this and saying that these children, many of them are going to have to go back, and what he's asking congress for is money to help expedite the process to send them back. many democrats in texas who are struggling in a republican state
9:25 am
to hold on to their states, many congressmen in texas think he's not doing enough, think he should have gone down to the border, he should be pushing harder. >> i want you to talk about these other communities crying foul that texas is shipping immigrants to them without their knowledge coror consent. >> the federal government months people around all the time, they move detainees from one place to another, so it's not as though the president is doing any wrong in this regard, legally what he is doing potentially wrong is not giving a heads up to state and local officials that this is happening and he has moved some de -- he's sent several bus loads of these people up there and they are somewhat taken by surprise, they say this creates a littpolitical problem for the.
9:26 am
they'll -- but in the meantime, they say they were blind sided and this is sort of complicating the president's problem further. >> let me go back to what you touched on earlier, which is should president obama have gone to the border while he was in texas? and perhaps the president would have been lauded for learning and seeing the situation firsthand or would he have been criticized for yet another photo-op? >> give me 30 seconds for that one. >> dammed if he did and dammed if he didn't. reminded me a little bit of the hurricane sandy response, he was condemned for turning that into a photo op, but his fans said he did the right thing, the president said it was just theater, but theater is important when you're president. the president has been widely viewed as being a good job to raise awareness and rally people to his side.
