ralph peters will be here. follow me on twitter. let me know what you think specifically about the obama-reagan discussion we had tonight. thanks for watching everybody. i'm megyn kelly. this is "the kelly file." have a great weekend. welcome to "hannity." this is a fox news alert, and coming up tonight we'll bring you the latest breaking developments from around the globe. we'll have live reports from on the ground in gaza city and ukraine. but before we begin tonight we have an important warning for this country and for president obama. now, tonight, make no mistake about it our world, our nation are in an alarming state of emergency. yesterday in the blink of an eye the world watched as the lives of 300 innocent souls were wiped off the face of this earth by an act of unthinkable terror, that of course when a surface-to-air missile targeted a passenger airline in ukraine. hours later our closest ally, israel, after being bombarded with over 1600 rockets by the terror group hamas and after
7:01 pm
two-thirds of the israeli population being forced to spend time in bomb shelters, the israeli government did what they had to do in order to protect their citizens. and after warning residents in gaza for well over a week to evacuate, israel had no other choice to make good on their pledge to protect their citizens. at this hour israel's ground offensive continues to detect and destroy hamas and its assets. but sadly that wasn't just a recap of the week, the month, even the entire year. that was one day, yesterday, thursday july 17th, 2014, a day that none of us would like to see repeated. it's shocking to see a president of the united states of america, the free world, with such a lack of urgency and priorities. so i say to the president tonight, it's time for action. it's time for urgency. it's time for you to get engaged. this by the way is not just confined to incidents around the globe, because, mr. president, right here at home america is drowning in debt. we have unfunded liabilities like social security and
7:02 pm
medicare. we have the lowest labor participation rate since 1978. we have 50 million americans on food stamps, 50 million americans in poverty. hope is fading. far too many of our friends and neighbors are relying on government handouts. they're living paycheck to paycheck. we have more millennial being forced to move home and live with mommy and daddy. we have veterans, the people we should be taking care of the most, they've lost their faith in the federal government. where's the urgency after learning that our vets are dying because a lack of care that we promised them. where's the urgency to fix that? none of this should come as a surprise. this is what happens when the federal government gets too involved in our lives. if you're not convinced, just look at obamacare. four years, $700 million later and in the year 2013 and 2014 our government couldn't even build a workable website. look at our southern border where i visited last week to see firsthand how bad that crisis really is. we're being invaded by illegals, not just coming from central america but from rogue states
7:03 pm
that are hell bent on destroying our way of life, yemen, syria, afghanistan, pakistan. mr. president, it's time for you to stand up. it's time for you to lead. time to skip, for once, your lavish million dollar martha's vineyard vacation. time to put down the golf clubs. i think 180 rounds of golf since you've been commander in chief is quite enough. time to lead by example. maybe forego the in-ground pools and scenic bike rides. maybe time to hang up the bike hat of yours and put down the one-pound dumbbells for just a few minutes because you need to spend more time in the oval office. you need to be in the situation room. you need to be surprised to learn what has actually happened in the six years since you have become the leader of the free world. i know this may be a hard pill to swallow coming from one of your harshest critics because in this program we have highlighted the illustrious list you like to blame for your problems, you've
7:04 pm
been president for six years. president obama, it's your bat, your ball, your game. i know your natural course, blame me, fox news, carl rove, talk radio, rush limbaugh. and when all else fails of course you can always blame george w. bush. >> we've weathered the arab spring's effect on oil and gas prices, the japanese earthquake and tsunami's effect on supply chains, the extraordinary economic uncertainty in europe and recently markets around the globe have taken a bumpy ride. there are some structural issues with our economy where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient with a lot fewer workers. you see it when you go to a bank and you use an atm. you don't go to a bank teller. or you go to the airport and you're using a kiosk instead of checking in at the gate. >> seriously? atms? kiosks? with all due respect the final
7:05 pm
buzzer has now sounded on the blame game. the blame game is over. our problems here at home, the crisis in the middle east, the standoff between ukraine and russia, the crisis at the border, our failing economy. mr. president, these are your problems. just listen to members of your own party if you don't believe me. while you were out there busy attending fundraisers in the aftermath of that terror attack in ukraine, democratic senator carl levin had the moral courage to call you out saying "whoever did it should pay a full price. if it's by a country either directly or indirectly, then it could be considered an act of war." why didn't you say that? and last week again while you were busy headlining overpriced dinners this time in dallas another democratic congressman stood on his principal, had this to say about you're inability to address the chaos on our southern border. >> i hope it doesn't become president obama's katrina moment. i'm sure president bush thought the same thing that he could just look at everything from up in the sky and that he -- for a
7:06 pm
long time. so i hope this doesn't become the katrina moment for president obama. >> he didn't have time to go to the southern border? if you're still not convinced your failures are now being recognized on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis, consider this. we have a recent poll that shows 54% hard working, tax paying, law-abiding american citizens, have lost faith in your ability to lead this great country. and while i happen to be among that growing majority, and by the way frankly a little ahead of the curve but i wish i was wrong, i understood your radical views and also happen to love this country, that's the bigger part of my message here. i want to return to that shining city on a hill, you know, that the world community will respect and admire and, yes, fear. i want america to be a place where people can work hard, get a good paying job easily, climb their way to prosperity. and with two years left until you leave office there's still time for you to keep the promises that you made to the
7:07 pm
american people. >> we're going to have to change the culture in washington so that lobbyists and special interests aren't driving the process and your voices aren't being drowned out. one of the things i intend to do as president is restore america's standing in the world. if you stand with me, i promise you you and i togetr will change the country and change the world. >> well, we've changed it, but not for the better. if you want to accomplish those goals, you and your team, you need to start telling the american people the truth about the irs, about benghazi, start telling the truth to the american people. and by the way, it should begin with your top spokesman who's clearly living in your obama fantasy land. >> how does the white house react to the notion that the president is a bystander in all these crises? >> i think there have been a number of situations in which you have seen this administration intervene in a meaningful way that has substantially furthered american interests and substantially improved the, you know, the
7:08 pm
tranquility of the global community. >> tranquility, global community, okay. now, if your administration's definition of tranquility is a plane carrying men, women, kids, infants being blown out of the sky, then i guess congratulations are in order. if tranquility means as watching as israel, our closest ally, our most important ally, is shelled by relentless rocket attacks of terrorists hiding in schools, job well done. if tranquility is turning our back on the wars in iraq and afghanistan -- we lost 4,000 americans. i guess for you it's mission accomplished. but you and i both know that we've been watching unfold both overseas and right here abroad right here in the united states has been far from tranquil. mr. president, why don't you consider the events of these past 24 hours to be a very, very costly and deadly wakeup call? and while all this was happening yesterday you spent 40 seconds dealing with the killing of nearly 300 innocent people.
7:09 pm
and your secretary of state is lecturing israel to restrain itself again and again. that's time for a wakeup call. that means if you draw a red line in the sand with syria, you have to mean it. it's time for you to stand up to hamas. and that means stop giving them american tax dollars and supporting them. stand up to iran. take out their nuclear sites before god forbid they get a nuclear weapon. stop lecturing israel. stand with them. show moral clarity in this very perilous moment where they are the victims of unprovoked rocket fire. give afghanistan, give iraq, give them the intel, the training they need so there's not going to be a training ground again for the next 9/11. and by the way, it would also help if you'd humbly admit that your economic plan has been a disaster. you've nearly doubled the debt, doubled the number of people on welfare, now you can immediately begin the process of jump starting the economy. let's start with let's say the keystone pipeline. you can also duplicate the job
7:10 pm
success in north dakota and texas, how? why? by opening the energy resources right here at home. by the way, that would have the added benefit of not relying on countries that hate our guts for our energy. while you're at it, mr. president, it's time to stop robbing our kids and our grand kids piggy banks. you're robbing them blind. correct me if i'm wrong, you know, wouldn't anything else by taking and increasing the debt be anything but unpatriotic? remember this? >> the problem is is that the way bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the bank of china in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents, number 43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back. $30,000 for every man, woman and
7:11 pm
child. that's irresponsible. that's unpatriotic. >> really? you nearly doubled the debt. you've accumulated just about as much debt as every president before you combined. this rigid radical ideology is now rendered you the single worst president since world war ii. you know what, mr. president, it's time for your sister soldier moment. it's time to abandon the failed policies you've been clinging to like you say americans cling to their guns and bibles and religion for the past six years. it's time to learn from the man, by the way, who helped get you elected in 2012, bill clinton. remember he said the era of big government is over, the end of welfare as we know it? bill clinton showed a capacity to grow, adjust, lead, manage. you showed no such tendency to learn as you go. it's time to drop the radical ideology. it's failing. time to drop the arrogance that goes along with it. time to stop blaming everybody. it's time to cancel your vacations. time to stop the fund raising. time to get back to work, mr.
7:12 pm
president. joining me now with reaction to this and more fox news strategic analyst ralph peters. colonel, i still can't get over this. we don't know where the president was the night that four americans died in benghazi. yesterday, 40 seconds devoted, nearly 300 people, 298 people killed, shot down by a surface-to-air missile, and then our closest ally begins a ground incursion against hamas. and the president's in new york fund raising. what's going on here? why is he in the, you know, situation room? >> well, sean, as you know i share your anger. but we also feel a great deal of sorrow because of the missed opportunity. one of the many tragedies here has had our mixed race president merely competent, a bit arrogant, a bit more capable and just been an average president of taft or coolidge.
7:13 pm
he could have brought people together. it would have been great for our image in the world. instead we've got a man who lacks the courage, the fundamental courage, to make basic decisions. lacks the courage to lead. lacks the courage to fulfill the duties of the president. certainly lacks the courage to stand up to someone like vladimir putin. and i think you also hit something else in your monologue. that's when you tie together for instance the fact he just really didn't react initially to the shootdown. and he doesn't really connect with people. he doesn't really care about other human beings. he is, i think, the most narcissistic, self-absorbed president we've ever had. and that's saying something. because all presidents are self-absorbed to a degree. but this man, sean, i don't think we could have elected a worse man in these times to be our president. i can't say our leader because he's not a leader, but to be our president. >> i got to tell you, i'm listening to you, i have great respect for you, colonel.
7:14 pm
and that's sad. what are we to do? we basically have incontrovertible evidence, the rebel conversation proving they're responsible, they get the equipment, you need highly trained people to fire that weapon that took the commercial airliner out of the sky. who should we do? i don't expect the president will do it. what should we do with israel? what is your take on these things? >> first of all, today was a very disheartening day. when i heard samantha power, who seems to be the only real man in the administration, give what was a red meat speech this morning. i mean, she laid it out by the numbers why russia was guilty. and i thought maybe, at last our president would stand up. and instead barely an hour later he walked it back. i mean, she served up red meat, he served up luke warm waffles. i can tell you exactly what vladimir putin's reaction was, what a weak, indecisive man.
7:15 pm
i mean, putin has no respect for him. no one respects our president. and another problem i think we need to raise with president obama is, you know, he just doesn't like america very much. he's not grateful to it. he doesn't like our system of government, the separation of powers. clearly he doesn't like that. he'd much rather have the hugo chavez model. he's a man who doesn't like our military, who believes america is the problem. as we heard as far back as the cairo speech. i mean, we have a man he's not a cipher exactly in the oval office, but he's a man elected president of a country he doesn't really like and his population he distrusts and his military he despises. >> that's a powerful statement. colonel, thank you so much for being with us. you know, when america, when we don't lead, there is a vacuum. there's a huge void. very serious. coming up on this breaking news edition of "hannity," new
7:16 pm
developments from ukraine about who could have been responsible for the downing of the malaysian passenger jet and the killing of all 298 innocent people on board. we have a report coming up next. and then israel's ground invasion of gaza is literally intensifying at this very hour. we go live to gaza city to find out exactly what's happening. and as the crisis continues to unfold on all of these, how is the white house going to respond? we'll examine that and much more. we'll check out the media coverage of both these stories as "hannity" continues this busy news night.

7:18 pm
this a fox news alert, one day after 298 innocent civilians lost their lives after a surface-to-air missile shot a malaysian airlines plane out of the sky, there are still many
7:19 pm
unanswered questions tonight. and fox ease own steve harrigan is in kiev in ukraine with the very latest on the investigation of flight 17. steve. >> reporter: sean, one of the real challenges in finding out exactly what happened from this site of the tragedy about 25 miles from the border with russia in eastern ukraine is it's still a hot war zone. there's still gunfire going off, the sound of russian-made grad missiles as well. this has gotten in the way of some european crash site experts from making their way to the scene. they're saying they're not being allowed to do their job to carry out an independent investigation because they're being hindered by the russian-backed rebel fighters. of course this investigation is what multiple world leaders are really calling for at this point. the problem is it's a war zone there. the real problem here too in the capital of ukraine is a white hot anger. and there's no doubt here as to where that anger is directed,
7:20 pm
squarely at russia. you have ukrainian leadership pointing to russia saying this has been an act of terrorism by the russian government sponsoring these rebels. and among people on the street too you really get a sense of outrage, a push for their government to take action, to do something. one man told me, we have to shoot those russian bandit our eastern part of our country. the real question is, will those tempers be able to cool what's next after this tragedy? you have president obama and president putin of russia both pushing for a cease-fire. but some of these pro-russian rebels in the east may not fall into line. there are different groups with their own ambitions. so simply turning off the faucet of violence may not be that easy. sean, back to you. >> all right, steve. thank you. joining us now with comments regarding who could have been responsible for shooting that airplane, fox's own jennifer griffin standing by tonight in washington with the very latest. jennifer, what's going on?
7:21 pm
>> reporter: sean, we now know and it's confirmed there was only one american on board flight 17. it was a dual dutch u.s. citizen traveling on a dutch passport quinn lucas schansman. u.s. officials repeatedly hinted at russian involvement in the attack. the pentagon confirmed it was a russian-made sa-11 missile that brought down the malaysian flight fired from inside ukraine adding that separatists could not have done it by themselves. >> there's no hint that russian support for the separatists has ceased. in fact, we believe that russia continues to provide them with heavy weapons and other military equipment, financing as well. and they continue to allow these russian fighters to enter ukraine freely. >> this war can be ended. russia can end this war. russia must end this war. >> reporter: just 20 minutes after the plane went down this man, igor bezler, the self-proclaimed minister of
7:22 pm
defense for the russian separatists, is heard talking to a russian military intelligence officer according to telephone intercepts released by the ukraine government. [ speaking in a foreign language ] >> reporter: ukrainian officials say this is the smoking gun. these telephone intercepts of the separatists reporting back to russian intelligence, sean. >> all right. thank you, jennifer griffin, thanks so much. we're going to be following all the breaking news out of ukraine in this hour, but first we turn to the ongoing crisis in the middle east. israel ramped up its ground offensive. john huddy, the man who never sleeps, the man smack in the middle of the action in gaza city. watch this. >> reporter: okay.
7:23 pm
[ bleep ] whoa! whoa! whoa! >> john huddy now joins us from gaza. john. >> reporter: yeah, well, sean, during the past 24 hours the fighting has really accelerated here in gaza. that's because as we know now israeli ground forces have crossed the border and they're pushing in deeper into gaza. so that -- what you saw at that air strike was one of probably about four or five of our count in this area. there was actually two behind us here targeting a location early. yeah, right, earlier. and then several others as well over the course of the last couple hours. along with that we've had artillery fire. we've had incoming artillery fire as well that was hitting a location from offshore naval vessel hitting just across the road here. so while we have seen action in this area before, sean, we haven't seen it with such frequency as we have tonight. and at this point more than 70,000 israeli troops are amassed along the border both to the north, to the east and now
7:24 pm
to the south as this operation continues. we're in day 11 of operation protective edge, and the ground operations -- there was just a loud explosion in the background. bear with me. can't see it. ground operation could last anywhere from a week to two weeks or even longer. >> this has pretty much gone on 24/7. i know you haven't been sleeping a lot the last number of days. and it's very close to your location at times. how -- does it just not stop? i also heard hamas fired about a hundred rockets into israel today, is that right? >> reporter: yeah, that's correct. the rocket fire continues. it really -- it's -- really it increases when the sun goes down. that seems to be the pattern, sean. is at right after sunset that's when things really intensify. that's when the fighting accelerates. and so far it's been mostly to
7:25 pm
the north. but then today throughout the course of the evening we've seen that fighting really comes much closer to our location here. but in terms of the air strike, that's a constant. some days it's every 20 minutes, other days it's every couple hours. but within the last 24 hours it has definitely increased and accelerated quite a bit, sean. >> as we can see the sun rising now in israel behind john. john, get some sleep. thanks for being with us. we appreciate you staying with us tonight. we're going to turn our attention back to washington for details. how is the administration, if they are, going to respond to these international crises? fox's own ed henry standing by tonight at the white house. ed has the very latest. ed. >> reporter: shawn, good to see you. what the president is doing tonight is working the phones calling leaders in uk, germany, australia, all with a coherent message to try and convince them to stand with the u.s. and
7:26 pm
demanding that international investigators get inside ukraine. you heard steve harrigan reporting there that these pro-russian separatists are still armed and are blocking international investigators from getting in there and getting the evidence. the fear tonight at the white house is that the russian president vladimir putin is going to lead a cover-up and that the evidence is disappearing from the ukrainian side of the border. and there was an interesting difference in tone today in terms of standing up to putin. president obama seemed to strike a very cautious tone here at the white house news conference while his ambassador to the united nations samantha power was much more aggressive in pointing the finger directly at putin. interesting because republicans on capitol hill are suggesting that the president has not been showing enough leadership. listen. >> if mr. putin makes a decision that we are not going to allow heavy armaments and the flow of fighters into ukraine across the ukrainian/russian border, then
7:27 pm
it will stop. >> far more important than what he says is actually what he does. and there is no substitute for a strong united states military and intelligence presence around the world. people see us receding around the world while the crisis just gets inflamed. >> reporter: now, at this news conference today the president basically took the u.s. military option, any option to deal with the crisis in ukraine off the table saying he would only work with nato allies in case one of them was struck. and according to nato charter, defend them. but no offensive military action. talked about getting european allies to go along with sanctions. so far the europeans won't do that. they're worried about their own economies being hurt if they go after the russian economy. and as we've seen, u.s. sanctions have hit the russian economy. there's been some positive impact there, but overall it hasn't changed putin's behavior. >> ed, one follow-up on that. jennifer griffin played that phone call, that phone
7:28 pm
intercept, which i think issin controvertible evidence of who's responsible for taking out the commercial airliner, isn't western europe in a horrible position here? their hands are tied because of the dependence on energy coming out of the ukraine? >> reporter: sure. that's why the president when i was with him in europe a couple recent trips was urging angela merkel in germany and other european allies diversify your economies because you can't be so dependent upon russia. that's a long-term issue. in the short-term that's why the europeans are pressing americans for more leadership. what we've heard from the president is, look, the europeans have to stand up and show more leadership and sanction russia. but as you suggest because of those energy concerns, other concerns, the europeans haven't gone along. and that's why putin has been able to get away with this. >> be nice if the president thought we were an exceptional nation. but that's a commentary i will have later in the program. ed henry at the white house tonight. thank you, sir. more on the breaking developments out of ukraine and israel as we get them here at the fox news channel.
7:29 pm

7:39 pm
why are we standing side by side with them? i don't understand it. >> well, i think it follows a pattern of the obama presidency rhetorically you know he's right there with israel, i've got israel's back, unbreakable bond between the united states and israel all designed for domestic u.s. political consumption. but behind the scenes he's putting enormous pressure on israel to cut back this particular offensive and to try and get a cease-fire in place. john kerry's not even being subtle about it. so the israelis faced with a threat of annihilation from an iran when it gets nuclear weapons trying to deal with the lesser threat of hamas getting no help from the united states politically or otherwise. >> you know, he sends kerry out there every day to show restraint, show restraint in the pressure behind the scenes according to my sources in israel is fierce from the competition. what do you make of what is now

batteries that hamas has placed in civilian centers next to schools, next to mosques, next to hospitals. they are not only targeting our civilians but using their civilians as human shields. but we're acting with enormous restraint considering our people are under constant rocket attack. >> ambassador, i would suggest to you that just one rocket in any american city would result in massive overwhelming use of force. 1600 and on average thousands a year is the situation that your fellow country men have been living under now for a long time. is it true -- and i think this is important to put context and texture to what's going on in gaza, is it true that when you would discover a home or a central location where hamas is hiding their rockets that you would give them eight minutes notice before you bomb that home that they could leave it? and is it also true that you gave a week's notice by dropping leaflets in the areas where people should leave and where
7:43 pm
they should go in the lead-up to this? yeah. >> well, what we do is we drop fliers and we make phone calls and we send text messages and sometimes even when we're bombing a specific target we will use a dummy bomb to try to get civilians out of harm's way. we take such great care to get civilians out of harm's way. it doesn't mean that we're perfect. there's been over 2,000 targeted operations in gaza. it's a really big built up area because there are so many missile batteries spread, as i said civilians homes, mosques, schools, hospitals. we just had a school yesterday a u.n. organization that's supposed to help palestinian refugees, one of their schools had 20 rockets in it. you know what they did with those rockets? they apparently contacted the authorities to pick them up. you know who the authorities are in gaza? hamas. so that's what israel's dealing with. and we do everything to keep their civilians out of harm's way. but even if we get it right 99%
7:44 pm
of the time, if 1% of those 2,000 targets are off and 20 missiles go in the wrong place, that's when you have civilian casualties. we regret loss of every civilian life, but the ones who should be responsible for this are hamas for putting their civilians in the way. even egypt blamed hamas for israel having to defend themselves here. look, i understand the mission here is to break up hamas' infrastructure and break up their tunnel system that they have where they're hiding these rockets, et cetera. but for the iron dome, all of those 1600 rockets would have landed in civilian areas within israel. where's the source of this weaponry? is it syria? is it iran? and what do you do about the ultimate source here? do you not have to go to the source to prevent this from happening in the future? >> well, you raise a very good point. the source of a lot of those rockets that have been smuggled into gaza do come from syria and iran. iran, you may remember, a few months ago tried to smuggle
7:45 pm
those weapons in over the red sea to sudan, up through the sanai into gaza. we intradikted a ship in the red sea that had 40 syrian-made rockets that iran was trying to export into gaza. fortunately the egyptian government has taken some pretty strong action against the smuggling routes. they've taken out a lot of these tunnels where you had these weapons smuggled into gaza. the tunnels that we're dealing with now are not the weapon smuggling tunnels. we're dealing with tunnels where terrorists are trying to infiltrate into israel to go through these tunnels, come out and perpetrate massacres against our civilians. we just avoided one yesterday. we had a situation where 13 of these terrorist commandos came out of the ground, they were trying to murder all the people and take a few hostage into gaza. fortunately we were able to prevent that from happening. so israel is taking action right now to deal with this vast tunnel network that exists in gaza. >> ambassador, our thoughts and prayers with the people of israel as they deal with this

terror threat. and it is severe. thank you, sir, for being with us. >> thank you, sean. coming up, a cnn reporter removed from the israeli/gaza border after tweeting she was threatened by "scum." and also tonight -- >> it would appear that the plane was shot down by blast of wind from howard stern's -- >> it would appear the plane was shot down, can you tell us anything more from your military training? >> an nbc news host pranked on live tv. we're going to play you that embarrassing tape in its entirety as we analyze the media coverage which has been quite atrocious in many areas as it relates to the ukraine and gaza as a special news edition of "hannity" continues. starts with back pain... ...and a choice. take 4 advil in a day which is 2 aleve... ...for all day relief. 7:53 pm
we need to arm the ukrainin military. we need to insist our european allies make it clear that they will support to enhance our sanctions >> they need their energy from ukraine. they are not going to do that. >> yes, they can and they will if we show leadership. >> doug, he checked out. this guy is not -- he's checked out. >> we as an american people need 4zc%áuáu attacking obama.s not >> absolutely this, is what we when a president believes america's decline leads to an increase in world peace as opposed to america's strength leading to less chaos everything going on is partially a direct result of obama's disengagement and ideological
7:54 pm
believe america ought to be in economic and military decline. remember, he's talking about a reset with russia? he believes if you're nice to terrorists they'll be nice to you. >> i'll have more flexibility. >> this is a disgrace. >> sean... >> quick. we're running out of time. >> i don't defend the president. toughen up on military response, toughen sanctions demand our allies to join with us. >> we've been disengaging our military, driving it down six years this, is a dangerous situation. >> coming up, more "hannity". right after the break. kelley blue book...
