>> on that guy's camper. >> oh, my god! >> the tornado packing 120-mile-an-hour winds, heavy rain and softball-sized hail. a couple from new jersey was killed when a huge tree crushed their tent. dozens of other campers were injured as well. take a look at this aerial view of all the damage. you can see the huge campers and trucks that were flipped upside down. look at that one. and trailers happened to just be flattened because of that. breaking overnight on the air algeria plane crash, french soldiers now on their way to secure the site where they just found wreckage. they're heading to a village in mali controlled by al qaeda. it is 30 miles from the border of burkina faso. the passenger jet with 116 people on board disappeared from radar 50 minutes after taking off from burkina. the flight was heading to algeria. as for the cause of the crash, officials not ruling out terrorism, but they do believe

the plane went down because of bad thunderstorms. gunfire inside a pennsylvania hospital. it could have been a lot worse if not for the heroism of a wounded doctor. police say 49-year-old richard plots opened fire during a meeting with a psychiatrist and a case worker. the case worker happened to be killed. dr. lee silverman was grazed in the temple. that's when silverman pulled out his own firearm and shot the man three times. a psychiatric patient, plots has a history of violence. former neighbors say that his final words to them was telling. >> the last thing he said, getting in the van, he hollered, he said, "you haven't heard the end of me yet." >> coming up in just a few minutes, a live report with the latest on how the hero doctor is doing now this morning. the crisis at our borders. front and center in washington. today gop house members holding an emergency border crisis summit as the president hosts leaders from several central

american countries. elizabeth pran live for us in washington. elizabeth, lawmakers don't have much time left to make a deal. >> you're right. it's only about a week as the august recess creeps closer, house republicans are meeting hours from now to brainstorm solutions. they say action needs to be taken sooner rather than later. >> this is a problem of the president's own making. and then he tries to -- says he wants to solve the problem. we've got a president that's awol. and the president ought to get engaged in this if he actually wants something to happen. >> the white house has set up a meeting between president obama and the presidents from three central american countries today. one of them is honduran president hernandez. he claims his government has been actively apprehending human smugglers, capturing a dozen already. he says the responsibility lies in all countries moving forward. >> translator: we, presidents of

guatemala, el salvador and myself, will ask president obama and the congress to accept that this is a problem that should be shared. the humanitarian crisis of these children is a responsibility for central america and also the united states. >> but who is most responsible and how much do american taxpayers front the bill? lawmakers know the clock is ticking. house republicans' backup proposal with some policy changes. the senate is pushing a $2.7 billion border package without really big policy changes. an enormous crisis with only a week to come to a consensus. and the american public is paying attention. 58% of those polled disapprove of the way the president is handling immigration. they're also placing the blame on him. at least four in ten of those surveyed say his policies are bearing culpability for the reason that so many children are crossing the border illegally. heather, back to you. >> thank you, elizabeth. and let's keep talking about our borders.

what needs to happen today to address the crisis? logon to fox & friends first facebook page. #keeptalking. the obama administration confirming russian military attacking ukrainian government forces. >> we have new evidence that the russians intend to deliver heavier and more powerful multiple rocket launchers to the separatist forces in ukraine and have evidence that russia is firing artillery from within russia to attack ukrainian military positions. >> state department officials not elaborating on the new evidence, saying it would compromise their sources. meanwhile, amateur video on youtube from july 16th allegedly showing russia firing in the ukraine. however, fox news cannot independently confirm the authenticity of that video you're seeing. the u.s. is accusing russia of supplying separatists with the missile that shot down the flight last week killing all 298 people on board. russia continuing to deny involvement. and that brings us now to our look who's talking. the former cia and nsa director

general michael hayden says what's happening in ukraine and russia will have a ripple effect. >> it's not just about the ukraine now. it's about what europe's going to look like for the next era. and we have got to, in a variety of ways, without being belligerent, without wanting war, we have got to make this more costly to putin and the russian federation. we have got to take steps to make them think twice about the kinds of actions that they've been undertaking now for the last two weeks or so, seemingly without cost. >> general hayden goes on to say the sanctions that president obama's imposed on russia are clearly no longer enough. new overnight, we are expecting an announcement on a possible cease-fire between israel and hamas in the next few hours. this as the fighting only intensifies. at 6:30 a.m. eastern time, the

israeli cabinet will meet to discuss a cease-fire offer from secretary of state john kerry. hamas insists that any hope for a stoppage in the fighting rests on the demand that israel and egypt lift a blockade of gaza. both israel and hamas are expected to answer today. peace talks come after the horrific attack on a united nations-run school in gaza that killed 15 people. the sudanese mother sentenced to death because of her christian faith is now enjoying some time with her family in italy as a freed woman. we have more on miriam ibrahim's release and a special visit with pope francis. >> good morning. miriam ibrahim became a worldwide rallying cry for those worried about the plight of christians in muslim countries. she actually gave birth to one of her children while in jail, reportedly chained up because of her faith. now, early yesterday morning, she landed in rome. today is her first full day of freedom with her children and

husband. she's already met with the pope about her situation. the 27-year-old and the pontiff talked for about half an hour. her children were there. she thanked the pontiff for his prayers and solidarity along with help getting her released. the pontiff gave her a rosary. she was born to a muslim father and christian mother. but in sudan, she wasn't allowed to marry a christian. when she did do that and married her husband in 2011, the sudanese government stepped in and sentenced her to death. her husband is an american citizen. and they tried to leave once her death sentence was overturned, but the sudanese said no. up until her departure, she was living at the u.s. embassy for protection. but on wednesday, a hearing on capitol hill highlighted miriam's case, and her supporters, along with members of congress, were not happy with the state department's handling of her case. >> the u.s. government's disinterest in the plight of an american and his family is simply indefensible. >> now that she is out of sudan, it's unclear what the feeling will be from those in congress.

we have learned that it was actually the italian government that was also instrumental in gaining her freedom. she is going to be in rome for a few days before flying to the united states with her husband and children to start their new life of freedom. heather and ainsley, back to you. >> thank you, leland. in other news, two u.s. citizens including a "washington post" correspondent now detained in iran. jason has been working in the country since 2008. now, the two other detained americans are freelance photojournalists. their names not yet released. it's unclear why they've been taken into custody. the state department says that they are aware of the report. montana democrat john walsh says he's not going to drop out of november's u.s. senate race over allegations that he plagiarized his master's thesis. this as the u.s. army war college says that they have examined that paper. they will refer the case to the college academic review board. walsh races an uphill race against republican representative steve dans.

with the latest for us. good morning, sabina. >> reporter: hey, good morning. well, we all know doctors save lives. they don't usually do it with guns, but that's what police say this psychiatrist did when the suspect opened fire inside a psych ward. the 49-year-old richard plots is in critical condition here at the hospital, the university of philadelphia. police say he's going to be charged with murder today if he survives for killing his 53-year-old case worker. now, plots walked into the psych ward at a local hospital with his case worker, teresa hunt. they were in a room alone with a doctor when plots allegedly opened fire. the doctor, lee silverman, was grazed in the head, but he still managed to dive for his gun underneath his desk and fired back. sources tell us that plots has numerous convictions for arrest, for convictions for illegal drugs and weapons charges and a history of mental illness. he was last forcibly committed to a psych ward back in january of last year. guys.

the beekeeper was called in, found the hive the size of a basketball hidden under some rocks. all three are still recovering and expected to be okay. well, a bizarre case out of southern california solved. police now know who left his creepy dolls on the doorsteps of at least 11 homes where 10-year-old girls live. and what's even spookier, the dolls actually look like the girls. well, turns out that a woman in the neighborhood decided to clean up her doll collection, and she thought some of the young girls from her church might enjoy them. police say that she didn't have any bad intentions. a warning for all of you who use social media. you could be the target for thieves. an orlando family learning the hard way that their house was burglarized after the family posted on facebook about their vacation. home surveillance cameras captured this man scoping out the place at night. he then returns the next day, finds the spare key, and he just lets himself in the house. >> don't tell your children where it is. don't tell many people. let them call you if they need to get in the house so you can

recess seem less and less likely. so the white house is now floating this controversial idea on its own. as you just mentioned, the president today is going to be sitting down with his counterparts from both honduras and guatemala. and he may talk about this latest idea which is offering many children from honduras direct refugee status before they even leave their country. and it comes as some central american leaders are blaming u.s. immigration policy for the border crisis where many central americans believe that they can just get across the border, they can probably stay. >> translator: there's a lack of clarity in the migratory policy of the united states. the language is ambiguous. that's why the coyotes and smugglers take advantage of the situation. >> the white house plan will no doubt run into just a buzz saw of critics in congress which is still considering the president's request to spend nearly $4 billion to, in part, just house and place the tens of thousands of children who have already made it across the

border. republicans will meet today to strategize on immigration, but they argue that the white house's position is changing. >> now the president and his team have apparently process has been hampered by the contradictory messages being sent by the white house. >> so who is to blame for all of this? we asked that question in a new fox news poll. and these are the results. is it violence in central america? is that the reason? 42% say that's the cause. but 42% blame president obama for that. and look, his approval numbers are taking a hit because of this. specifically approval numbers on immigration. right now just 34% of registered voters approve of his policies. that is down from 39% about a year ago. heather. >> doug luzader live for us this morning, thank you, doug. well, the president's answers to the immigration crisis, sending a team to study the helpfulness of the texas

national guard on the border. governor rick perry just announced the deployment of 1,000. tr troops over the next month. their mission is to deter and defer illegals crossing the border. the president has said that he is open to a temporary deployment. house and senate lawmakers can't seem to agree on a way to fix the massive problems at the department of veterans affairs. leaders of the house and senate vet van committees bringing their own proposals to the table. the main differences between each one, $15 billion. a republican proposal by representative jeff miller would appropriate $10 billion in emergency funds right now. a proposal from independent bernie sanders would appropriate $25 billion over three years. with congress leaving town for a five-week break august 1st, this deadlock spells big trouble for the v.a. the location of casey kasem's body no longer a mystery. last week his daughter said that his remains were missing from a funeral home in washington state. turns out his wife, jean, flew

them to montreal. the reason, sources say that montreal is the hometown of the man that she had secretly been seeing. this just the latest from the family drama for the kasem family. the stars align in criminal court. actors alec baldwin and shia la beouf appearing in new york city courtrooms just a few blocks apart. 28-year-old la beouf is charged with disturbing a broadway performance. his case was delayed until september while a plea deal is being worked out. then there's 56-year-old baldwin accused of getting belligerent with police who accused him of riding a bike the wrong way down a one-way street. the judge said he'll dismiss the case if baldwin avoids getting arrested over the next six months. can he do it, heather? >> let's hope so. it might be one of the most epic photo bombs ever. check this out. the queen making a cameo in these athletes' selfies at the commonwealth games in scotland. the 88-year-old smiling behind the fence in her hat. look at that. she actually says -- the woman
