this story this morning. >> reporter: he is infected with the single most deadly disease known to man. kent bradley was on a medical mission to liberia and became a patient himself after that medical mission trip. this is what he is going to call home for the foreseeable future. the isolation united a emory university hospital. there are four hospitals in the country able to safely treat a virus like ebola. >> i think it is unique this is the first patient with ebola in the united states, but that's the key point. i can't think of a better place in the world other than emory hospital to care for this patient. >> reporter: brantley arrived with a tent source built inside. and that plane is back to africa to pick up another american affected with ebola. keep in mind, there's no cure for ebola.

trying to keep their fever down, while in africa, brantley received a blood transfusion from one of the patients who survived ebola and it is thought that the blood transfusion contained ebola antibodies. much has been made by the cdc and health officials to bring brantley back to the united states, meaning it is bringing ebola back to the united states and under such strict safety standards that have been in place already, doctors almost universally agree the risk to the general population as close to zero as it gets. >> thank you, leland. so the question is, should the u.s. government be importing the most deadly disease known to man into this country, which is in effect what they just did. >> doctor bob arnaw was on "justice" last night. it brings up a good question, he was there on the front lines before and insisted on basically staying there before he was

brought back to the united states. he said, we're putting people at risk. listen to dr. barbana. >> the risk is low but it is not zero. mistakes can be made. the interesting thing, your honor, did they need to bring him here? he walked out of that ambulance. this is not a gravely ill individual. the fact is he could have been treated in africa. when i had cholera, i insisted on being treated in aftrica so would not infect friends and family. >> you are out trying to save the world with this christian organization, is a masamaritan', who has a great reputation. so you go and serve under those pretenses. if i had a sore throat, i

wouldn't want to be treat there had. >> would you want to be treated in liberia or the united states? the department of defense spends money on helping citizens and others around the world. that's exactly what they should be spending money on. >> a, the guy is an american we should be proud of. b, the fact he's an american is the key point. this is a good thing. they aught to be doing the same thing for andrew tahmooressi stuck in a jail. and i think we should take the risk, it is worth it, to save americans. but the federal authorities say there's no risk, think of all the times they said that and have been wrong. >> or testing on american citizens out in the desert. there's a long history of our federal government doing the same thing. >> but it's still worth the risk. >> people are wondering, are we spending too much money on this? $140 million in a grant given to

pans out. >> well, cops are now looking at surveillance footage from the ferry. jennifer was last seen ten days ago taking out cash from a bank and buying sleeping pills from a rite aid before filling up with gas. jennifer hudson's husband and father will be joining us live at 9:00 a.m. with the latest. and bottled water flying off the shelves as 400,000 people around the toledo area are told not to drink the water. the water tested positive for toxins possible from algae in lake erie. the algae growth is fed by fertilizer runoff from farms and sewage treatment plants and can make people extremely sick. residents even being warned not to shower in the tainted water. >> well, i think if i get my water today i'll be all right. >> i think we can all get through it. >> water tre now using chemicals in an effort to kill the toxins.

and two people are dead after a plane crashes onto the front lawn of a northern new york home. the small sesna taking off from the airport just across the street from nancy rauch's home. >> i see the airplane hit the top of the trees and just nosedive into my front yard. >> both men inside the plane were pronounced dead at the scene. the ntsb is looking into what led up to the fatal crash. topping sports, football season continues, can you feel it in michael strahan officially inducted into the hall of fail. that's a long time coming for him. he and hicks others dawned the gold jacket at the ceremony. strahan talking about how unexpected his career seemed. >> i am absolute probable hall of famer. i'm a probable football player

flew to have lunch with bobby and his fiance. bill was in full campaign mode. >> and according to robert kennedy's widow and representative joe kennedy ii, favored warren inviting her up, basically believing she's more liberal than hillary clinton. here's a tear-out from the article to go further. joe meant liz's visit to be a countermove to hillary's. he wanted to expose liz to the family to gape their support and sure enough, she came to the compound breathing fire about the need to rein in corporate america. joe thinks hillary has too many ties with wall street. he loves elizabeth warren because she's a full-throated liberal like his uncle ted. she has ted's voice, loud and angry and triumphant. of course, you remember -- does anybody see the irony here? people flying up to a compound to get mad about rich people?

talk about a lack of self-awareness. by the way, good for the kennedys. in one way, i'm impressed by this, elizabeth warren is closer to the beating heart of the democratic party. she is like a full-blown leftie. she's from the leon troswski wing. >> is that where the party is these days? >> the kennedys know they have big swing. to be compared to jfk would be great. and the fund-raising venues, whether the jfk library or the compound. we had ed klein on here recently with the article from "the post," who said obama is looking for a mini-me and sees elizabeth warren more so than hillary clinton. speaking of liberals who know better than you to run your life, the federal government has put new restrictions in place led by the first lady of the

united states that would mean schools cannot hold bake sales anymore. it turns out bake sales have baked goods that are bad for you and the government doesn't think you should eat them therefore schools have to close the bake sales. >> they are saying campuses can't roll out the bake sales because of the new nutrition standards. they want to replace the cupcakes on campus with gr gran and fruit cups. >> is there less sugar in granola? >> there's a lot of sugar in granola and there's more fib tore keep the kids full. >> or running to the bathroom. >> that's right. it keeps you regular. but let's teach kids about moderation instead. instead of selling king-size candy bars sold during the day, which doesn't fit the rules and

welcome back. kent bradley, one of two americans infected with the ebola virus, is back in the united states this morning at emory university hospital in atlanta. >> brantley is the first person infected with ebola to be treated in the united states, so what happens next? >> joining us is our favorite physician, doctor, welcome back. >> good morning. >> how concerned should we be that the first ebola case has arrived in the u.s.? >> we need to keep this in perspective, this is a deadly decide, but one of the reasons it is so deadly is it affects those in africa with no access to good medical care. and it is very important to emphasize i do not believe this is a major public health risk for people in the united states. this patient has come back, he

was a medical doctor working in africa, he's working with ebola patients and being brought back in isolation. he's getting the appropriate treatment. the staff are caring for him and wearing proper protective clothing. and there's lots of reasons in africa why ebola spread so rapidly. there's a tradition when the family member dies, the family members wash the body in preparation for burial. that's a risk, a huge risk for spreading ebola. if you get intravenous fluid, there's a good case for survival. many people do not have access to good or basic medical care. >> they are not educated and don't know what to do, either. when we saw the video of dr.

kent brantley walking on his own, a lot of experts were stunned themselves. what do you make of that and what is his treatment like? >> the fact that he walked out of the ambulance is a very, very good sign. clearly, he doesn't have the very advanced stages of this disease where you can get this fever with significant bleeding, multi-organ failure, hopefully with appropriate fluids and resuscitation he'll do actually very well. >> dr. bob arnot said he shouldn't come back to the united states at all. after i had cholera, i stayed over there until i was cured to come back to the united states. should the hospital be concerned? >> no, he's going through a dedicated infectious disease unit at the emory university hospital. they have expertise with dealing with the disease and with protecting other people in the hospital. and hopefully this disease will

happy sunday, everybody. the missing israeli soldier believed to be captured by hamas militants now confirms to be killed in battle on friday. the news of the soldier's death comes as prime minister benjamin netanyahu says they will complete their mission. and the united mine workers of america, initially big supporters of president obama, are now in full revolt over his climate agenda that could jeopardize their jobs. some even getting arrested at a march against the epa in pittsburgh. tucker, over to you. >> thank you, anna. well, attorney general eric holder this week came out against certain statistical

tools used in determining jail time. they have increasingly used large databases of information that include factors like law enforcement and substance abuse in order to determine sentences. but now holder says, quote, they should not be based, sentences should not be based on unchangeable factor that is a person cannot control or on the possibility of a future crime that has not yet taken place. should we change a method that has worked for so many years? here to weigh in is reverend jacques dubrat. why would we tamper with a formula that has worked? >> first of all, the formula has worked at the federal level, and everyone agrees with the crime rate dropping that the criminal justice system still is unfairly applied in many instances in

communities of color and for those who are poor. >> but doesn't society have a right to protect itself? >> obviously. >> from people who pose a threat to it and to its stalevel of th criminals are the same. some are likely to reoffend and some are not. should we make that determination? >> the determination and the right to do is certainly part of government's responsibility. the question is, how do you do that and will it be applied fairly and the attorney general is saying, as he said in other instances, you're going to have concernly an agreeable way to pursue. and he's asking other things to be considered in that determination. >> prior convictions have got to be considered. if i'm a judge, if you were a judge, wouldn't you want to know, the guy has been convicted and arrested 15 times for the same crime suggest he may do it again, right? >> yes. that should be a factor but there are other factors to be

considered. with the economy while they were incarcerated, that should be part of the assessment. >> this guy is race obsessed, holder. the application of justice should be color blind. he's saying we aught to do all we can to make sure certain groups aren't incarcerated at certain levels. shouldn't we ignore the race of alleged perpetrators and deal with them as individuals? >> but that's not the issue. the issue on the table is people have already been convicted and incarcerated and when they should be released, number one. and number two, america has never been color blind. >> so you don't think the race of people, shouldn't he ignore the race of people in prison? >> he should treat all people fair and equally. >> equally, so we shouldn't take race into play. >> over time, if you find the fact that is some people are not being treated fairly, then you

>> we are walking down the stairs. everyone is holding on for dear life on the railing. beautiful view. >> terrified riders at the six flags in new jersey were forced to climb down a 230-foot tall track after the nitro roller coaster lost power mid-ride. the coaster stalling right when they went over a peak. a computer malfunction caused the outage. >> can you imagine being caught upside down? >> no thank you. a would-be burglar gets cared off while trying to break into a home near houston. the man caught on surveillance walking around the property for two minutes and then kicks in the door twice. that's when someone inside the house shows up scaring the would-be robber off. the thief is still on the run. we are not sure what scared him, but the sign on the front says trespassers will be shot. survivors will be shot again.

hey, janice. >> raining again? >> i know. as long as it doesn't rain on our food segments this morning. we have a lot of food to talk about. taking a can on a philly cheesesake? mother nature, are you hearing me? a lot of 60s over the map. we are dealing with the potential for showers and thunderstorms all along the east coast. 66 anding sogy in new york. 80 in fee in addition. 59 in rapid city. we have a cool down coming later this week for much of the country. there's the radar, spotty showers and thunderstorms for parts of the southwest. again, the potential for flash flooding with the monsoonal moisture. then we've got this stalled out frontal boundary. a lot of moisture and an approaching cold front to bring the potential for showers and thunderstorms throughout the day all along the eastern seaboard. it won't be a total washout. i think we will get some food segments in on "fox and friends weekend" outdoors, but there's a

some quick headlines for you. a scary moment when elephants charged at tourists on a safari in africa. that took place in south africa. everyone was fine in the end. and a horrible scam from a texas woman pretending to have knee cancer. she raised $4,000 to help pay for chemotherapy, but they grew suspicious after seeing her dancing. that's when they decided she was lying. she's been arrested and is out on $75,000 bail. >> her real name was misty mink.

and this picture is horrifying. a texas teacher forces a first grader to sit on the floor at school for weeks as punishment for drawing on her desk. that teacher getting to keep her job. joining us is the ceo of the school improvement network, chet lincoln. you say firing the teacher would have been the wrong move, why? >> as we look at the individual situation, it seems horrible and any parent would be upset about it. because we look at the research as to what is going on nationally, classroom management is a big issue. we have surveying a million teachers. and the data from that survey shows that teachers want more support on how to manage their classroom, how to deal with the situations and that's the bigger issue. >> isn't it common sense here? you talk about training as a result, that's the problem, training of his teacher, but isn't it common sense? a first grader draws something on the desk. the child goes home to find out

that something is removed. she won't get the desk back until the second grade and has to sit on the floor, do you think that sets in with the child? that the child is really going to learn her lesson over that? >> well, in that individual situation, what's happened is learning of that child has completely shut down. so that was definitely an extreme situation. but more importantly, we need to help teachers understand how to react to these situations appropriately, admittedly, i wouldn't doubt if some of you as well as myself probably drew on our desks when we were in kindergarten, first and second drad just a little bit. >> yeah, every day. >> so it's natural. that's right. >> that's why the teacher needs to be reprimanded but it needs to go further than that. schools need to have a better handle on how to discipline their children. we know at a young age children don't remember punishment. you have to deal with it in the moment. so a lingering punishment that

goes on for weeks and weeks and weeks has no benefit and can be horrifying for the child. >> well, it actually traumatizes them and hurts learning for the rest of their lives. especially in early grades. as you mentioned, there's a teacher to be reprimanded in the situation, but let's get out ahead of this and train teachers so that the situations are avoided in the future. that's the biggest challenge, the teachers are not getting the support they need. so when they were in the classroom, when they were young, that creates the situations that we are seeing or hearing about more and more. >> why don't we let the disciplining fall to the parents? i mean, at the end of the day, she sent an e-mail to the parent to let them know what the child did, which was draw on the desk with pencil. it was not an offensive drawing. in first grade, how would they know that, but let the parents handle it. >> yeah, the parents should be informed and should be able to handle it. and it's really a pretty small,

worker kent brantley walked under his own power into emory university hospital in atlanta for treatment yesterday. another patient could be coming any day now. >> leland vittert is following this story for us this morning. >> reporter: good morning. the key word is walked and that certainly bodes well for a man infected with one of the world's most deadly diseases. dr. kent brantley went to africa to be on the front lines of the ebola outbreak and is now a patient for himself. this is the isolation at emory university hospital. there are four hospitals in the country with the ability to safely treat a virus like ebola. >> i think it is unique that this is the first patient that has ebola in the united states, but that's the key point. i can't think of a better place in the world other than emory

listen to this, a minnesota jury awarding the former minnesota governor jesse ventura $1.8 million in a defamation shoot against chris kyle. it was an unusual split 8-2 decision. ventura sued kyle saying he was defamed in his book? and did kyle's widow really get a fair shake in all of this? we'll ask larry friedman, attorney for kyle's widow this morning. larry, nice to see you this morning, welcome to the show. >> glad to be here. >> did the family get a fair shake during this trial? >> absolutely not. the family did not get a fair shake. what happened was the jury heard the evidence, they deliberated for five days, and at the end of the five days they couldn't reach a decision. it was a hung jury. case over. the plaintiff didn't meet his burden of proof. he didn't win his case. for some reason the judge decided to change the rules.

nonlethal sleeping pills. there's been absolutely no activity on her cell phone and bank card since she disappeared and then you have this sighting yesterday on this ferry with a car matching the description with the cracked windshield and everything else. did you have any indication personally, bill, as her father, that she was planning on leaving or heading away from the family in any capacity? >> absolutely not. that's out of character for her. this is not something that jennifer would ever do. >> so have you all been treated well with authorities? most family members in a situation like this, particularly the spouse, are treated suspectfully. has that happened in this case? >> not at all. the police department has worked very well with us and have done everything they need to do to make sure the investigation proceeds as quickly as they could. they cleared talan through the polygraph, as everyone is aware

>> is this where we should be at this point in the recovery? >> not at all, anna. we should be at a much stronger point at this moment five years after, six years after what has been such a terrible crash. basically, what happens was after the economic crisis of '07, '08, the regulatory environment got ramped up so much that it really is hampering companies from spending any money. so the corporate section doing very well, earnings growing about 8%, 9%, and yet they're significant on all this cash. they don't know what their express side of the business is going to look like, they don't know about regulations. they have regulations coming at them at all ends, epa, dodd-frank, obamacare, and this has created enormous expenses. if you see this part of their balance sheet rising, you're not going to go hire all these people and give them benefits. >> such a smart point. there's all this cash, trillions, just sitting there waiting to be used to help americans. if you were in charge, one of the things you would do right

away to convince companies to start spending that money. >> well, i think the first thing we need to do is recognize this whole hubalub around tax inversions is probably the most important trigger for the government to say, wow, we need tax reform. we're actually losing great american companies and they're going and putting their headquarters outside of america because they want to get a better tax rate. so the first thing to do is get around tax reform. lower corporate taxes, get them more inline, more competitive with the rest of the world and close some of the loopholes. tax reform is critical. number two, let's make job creation a priority. don't make it harder for businesses and more expensive for businesses to hire people. actually make it a competitive environment so that business says, i want to take on more people. that's the way to get to spending that money. >> it's such a great point. this week, we had congress threatening that they were going to prevent companies from being able to have their headquarters over in ireland or in dublin and other parts of the world where they're not having to pay all the taxes. all these companies freaked out a little bit and then congress
