what no american would do in the face to the threat of the lives of children. the new term used by the village idiots is surrender to the terrorist of hamas is disproportionate response. what it means is israel is more successful at protecting itself from annihilation than those attacking her. the israeli high-tech defense shield iron dome has saved countless jewish civilians. instead of being congratulated many in the media and diplomatic world condemn israel and say they ought to restrain themselves in eliminating the ongoing thought. john kerry ought to be renamed the shakiest gun in the west for the blundering efforts to protect a terrorist and punish the good guys. it's a miracle that his response to 9/11 wasn't to blame new york for building the world trade center tower so high it made it easy to fly airplanes into. it's tragic that many civilians in gaza have died.

of house legislation was driven more by senator jeff sessions, senator ted cruz than the house members. is it how it went down or is it house legislation? >> it was house legislation. i can tell you good lat and i worked with a group of members about 20 late into the evening on thursday to get something that was going to be workable and would keep our commitment that we have made governor to secure the border first. we knew that we had to change catch and release. we had to make certain there was a repate yags plan to get the children back to their families in their home countries. and then separately win the house said no comprehensive bill. one thing at the time. separately dealing with the deferred childhood arrival program. so daca program which was my legislation, basically, that takes away the president's ability to grant amnesty. >> explain what that bill does. the one you sponsored and pushed

through. help our viewers to sort of see exactly how that works. >> right. what has been happening the president would delay or defer the hearing for children that were coming into the u.s. for a period of two years, and allow them to get a work permit. this was for children coming into the country or either children who had come here individuals who had come here as children and this was done by an executive order not statute but an executive order signed june 15, 2012, and put into action august 15, 2012. if you would look at the escalation rate of illegal aliens coming into the country from that period of time, it is absolutely astounding. from 2009 to this year, you've seen a 305% increase. by the time we get to next year, they were expecting a 1300 percent increase.

so what we did was to say we are freezing the program. as of july 30th, of 2014 no federal money can be spent on the daca program or to give work authorizations to those who unlawfully entered the country. we also wrote it in such a way that it would handicap the president and keep him, while we're away in august, trying to grant amnesty to another class or group of aliens that are entering the country. >> i'm a little confused. the president was at the podium. we played the clip as we were coming into the segment and said congress isn't doing anything. they won't act. i'm going to have to. of course, the senate has gone home. he's threatened he would veto any bill he didn't like. i don't know how he became the monarch rather than the president, but how frustrating

5:26 pm
the bunker. there are many stories that could be told like that about palestinians in shelters or staying in their homes because they have nowhere to go. or there is a catholic church in gaza city that is currently housing 300 people, the nuns have left but the priest is there with the folks in the neighborhood who have nowhere to go. they have just been told that bombing will take place in their neighborhood and they're to leave. he writes a very poignant note saying this is a shelter. there's nowhere to go. why are they even bombing in this neighborhood? so there are plenty of stories. what would be important is not just the story that it is happening, but the names, the ages, the 5-year-old kids who are traumatized by this, the mothers also with the pregnant babies ay with babies or newboro are frightened for their ability of their children to survive. this is a war that affects

5:29 pm
committed, which i think was basically a conflict between soldiers entering and people coming out the tunnel. and it should be left at that. to kill 150 people from the air is, in fact, an act of collective punishment. it's a criminal act. it should never have happened. the response what is in order our bible says an eye for an eye. it doesn't say 150 eyes for two eyes. >> no, it does not. i think it makes it clear when israel is being shelled with people who are celebrating every israeli death, israel has not celebrated the death of palestinians. they wouldn't be going in there if hamas would stop it. they have to get rid of their home network. >> let's be fair here. i've seen the guys in the lawn chairs sitting outside gaza. i've seen the pictures. they're looking at them like a fireworks show. there's not a situation where you have, you know, humidity on one side and the devil on the other side. you have two human groups of
5:30 pm
people who are suffering. palestinians suffering disproportionately. and understand the conflict didn't just begin with the shelling by hamas, which i condemn. it began way before that. it began the closure. it began with the strangulation of gaza. it began with the fact that people in gaza badly governed, to be sure, but also horrifically treated by israel. that portioned out the number of calories they would allow them to get every day so they would know how much food to let in and how much to let out. that's not the way -- you treat gaza like an open prison camp. you create despair. jim, we're out of time. if they weren't ruled by a terrorist organization, there could be a lot of things going on differently. please promise you'll come back. we need to continue the discussion. unfortunately we can't today. our time is gone. i appreciate you being here. i want to bring balance but
