side kick john kerry made us look ridiculous on the world stage orchestrating a cease fire believing a terrorist organization would be true to its promise of a 72-hour cease fire which of course hamas broke in 90 minutes, reminding the world yet again we either don't know what we are doing, who our friends are or are actually switching sides. the sad part is the cease fire would have allowed humanitarian aid to the palestinians caught in the crossfire. sadly, today a u.n. school was hit and the 4r50i6s of innocent lost because hamas uses children as shields hiding their weapons behind the victims and baiting the enemy. our leader chastises netanyahu for the loss of life not oun li unlike the high commissioner for

human rights. >> they also provided almost $1 billion in providing the iron dome to protect israelis from the rocket attack and no such protection has been provided to gazians against the shelling. >> it is almost as though she and our president are saying it's not fair israel, you are winning the war. more people are dying on the other side than yours so stop it. and when israel does, hamas attacks. ignores the reality the terrorist organization hamas has broken every cease fire instead of would honor. should we be surprised? hamas is labeled a terrorist organization by our own state department. it is the outgrowth of the muslim brotherhood, a partner of iran. the enemy of egypt, saudi

negotiates with iran allowing them to continue their nuclear build up bringing them closer to attaining the nuclear bombs that iran intends to use against israel. it is not going to stop because our president turns tail and runs out of iraq leaving it open to sighs sis. you know, the group that kills their fellow muslims, beheading them, destroying christian churches and threatening them to leave the country or killing them if they don't. it is not going to stop because our president supported president morsi who after his election imposed sharia law suspended the conts tugs. even 35 million egyptians close to the muslims had the backbone to stand up to president morsi and his muslim brotherhood. the same group that our president invited to sit in the first two rows of his speech in cairo in 2009.

it is no wonder the world thinks we are bumblers. it was barack obama secretary of state hillary clinton who negotiated a cease fire between hamas and vaem two years ago convincing israel to take down a blockade so that hamas would build schools and hospitals for palestinians. a half a million tons of cement later were then used by hamas to build steel reinforced tunnels the most sophisticated in the world from which terrorists using counterfeit israeli uniforms could kidnap slaughter jews. the administration we are operating under is if you give a terrorist organization what it wants and try to understand their grief vances the conflict will be over. it is like saying, if we just sat down with the boston bombers they wouldn't have killed so many of us.

zone for all americans. and that's my open. the fighting continues in the middle east tonight. connor powell is live in gaza city. connor, talk to us. >> judge, the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says he would make hamas pay a price for their continued rocket fire. we continue to see that a few minutes ago in an israeli missile strike that ma'hamas ha used to fire rockets into israel was hit by an israeli missile. this is what we are seeing in gaza. israeli troops have generally been pulling out of gaza as they have completed the task of destroying the cross border under ground tunnels, but israel is continuing to hit hamas here in sggaza particularly along th gaza strip. this is what the israeli prime minister says the next phase of this conflict will be israeli troops will pull out and

continue to focus on hitting hamas' rocket infrastructure. there's heavy fighting in the southern part in the rafah area near the egyptian border. but for the most part we are seeing what the fault of the israeli military force has now pulled out. but there is still heavy fighting. earlier in the day the u.n. school was hit. this is the 7th time they have been hit by israeli artillery. they said they are investigating this incident but it has been condemned by both the u.s. and the u.n. the u.s. calling it disgraceful de shelling of the u.n. school. palestinians were there seeking refuge at the school. the u.s. calling on israel to protect civilians here at this conflict, judge, continues. >> connor, thanks so much. >> with me now former senior

advisor to three presidents, president obama, clinton and george h.w. bush, ambassador dennis ross and pulitzer prize winner and journalist fox news contributor judith miller. i will start with you ambassador. did john kerry really think he could broker a deal with hamas and is a deal even possible given the player in this? >> there has been cease fires in the past. in 2012 there was a cease fire. there was a cease fire in 2009 as well. particularly the cease fires are going to emerge from the realities on the ground. in this particular case israelis were prepared to go along with the cease fire that kerry had brok brokered. obviously hamas was not prepared for it. the israelis made a judgment now that sort of is twofold. number one they don't trust that hamas will live up to what it says. number two they don't want it

out hamas is seen as gaining. they understand egypt, jordan, saudi arabia the emirates and palestinian authority, although it's in a difficult position to say it. none of them want hamas to gain as well. you have a strategical linement in the region and they are trying to take account of that. whether or not that can bring it to an end it depends on something else. it depends on what hamas decides we are being depleted enough because they fired up so many or the israelis in fact attack the sufficie enough sites we don't appear to be at that point yet. >> judith miller is nodding her head. you agree? >> i do. there was an estimated arsenal of 10,000 rockets hamas has had. they used about 3-4,000 of them that has given them ar lot of

rockets left. th this is going to continue. >> i hear there has been about 30 tunnels found. >> 35. >> it seems as though they have gotten to all of them. are they sure about that? >> no. i don't think they can be. what has stunned the israelis is the extent to which hamas used what should have been concrete for schools and hospitals and clinics and homes, 70 percent of the homes that were destroyed in the last go around hamas and israel have not been rebuilt. they used it to build this under ground city. you remember when you and i were in egypt egyptians were complaining about the tunnels and how hard they were, how hard they were to identify, locate and destroy. >> ambassador ross and judith stay right here. we are going to go back to the topic of the crisis in the middle east.

ambassador dennis ross and judith miller are back with me. ambassador, you referenced something you used the word realignment. i want to read something that struck me when i listened to prime minister netanyahu yesterday. he talked about saying it surprised many, but not us, the special connection we have with countries of the area. this is very important at the end of this operation is open for us for israel new possibilities. that one speaks volumes to me. what about you ambassador? >> it is a significant point. it suggests we are thinking beyond what happens at the end of this round. he's thinking of it from two different stand points.

one standpoint is what you do to ensure hamas doesn't gain with gaza. candidates be used for housing authority as alternative to hamas hamas. is there a way to create greater cooperation among this group on regional issues. the fact that he is talking about opportunity to suggest that he realizes this round of fighting needs to be thinking not only in terms of what it represents about hamas but what it means as a whole and new direction within us. >> the fact that you have many of the arab countries absolutely silent and israel is hammering gaza doesn't that tell you that there is a realignment? i have always believed egypt was a friend of the united states. the 79 cease support. what does it tell you?

>> it tells me that what dennis is referring to this realignment is really taking place. i thought not only with the silence of the arab press they did not pile on top of israel when it started. also in the saudi king statements five minutes today in which he did not blame israel for the current round of fighting. they criticized hamas. there is a new from queen abdel-llah. there are all kinds of possibilities not only for israel but the united states to provide the extremists from the moderates in the arab world. >> the whole idea of hamas not allowing for humanitarian aid during the cease fire that they desperately need there. it started the issue of hamas. but statement their de facto ruling in gaza is that kind of

thing ever going to happen? >> they are not going to allow it to take place if they think they are going to lose number one. number two, it is clear hamas speaks to exploit civilian cash for its own purposes rather than looking to protect its citizens it actually uses their pain, their suffering to try to strengthen it internationally. you would think they would reflect some concerns about palestinians there. they much prefer to exploit their suffering than to try to end it. what will end it? do you see anything ending this? >> i do think as i said the key to this is going to be does hamas begin to look at its own forces becoming depleted number one is the price in gaza they are paying not only in terms of the citizen ry which they don't seem to care but their own

wherewithal their own capabilities does that also seem to be at risk? is number three, i would say a some point there's enough pressure brought to braear not only the israelis but by themselves. if they would join us and emphasize the reason this goes on is because of hamas and there's not going to be any ability to provide relief there unless hamas fired rockets then you might see this brought to an end. >> you were talking about mahmoud abbas, what role would he play? >> he of course is an enemy even though they are joining governments they are rivals. he does not want to see hamas get stronger. it's important to remember that hamas ceases power on the west bank in 2007 from abbas and

there foefr this is a rivalry i think israel and the united states and friends of peace can use to put added pressure on hamas. >> with the apparent realignment that hopefully in helping the people of palestine do you belief the united states will begin to recognize the importance of our alliances in the middle east and standing firm with him given the fact that even moderate muslims are fighting with the radical muslims and what's going on with syria and all of the jihadists there? >> i think the key right now is -- and i do believe they will increasingly act on this. i think the key to recognize that with this realignment we should be focusing every day on

down again which makes no sense. >> when we talk about some of the criminal cases one of the biggest problems is the young people coming in now so many males between 14 and 17 we don't even know if they are who they say they are. some wearing gang signs. we don't know if they have a criminal history or mental history. if they commit a crime they can say it's my first offense. how are you going to find out who they are? >> we can't find out. we interviewed several kids at the border who were teenagers. one admitted he committed his first murder when he was 8 years old. we know a lot of ms 13 young teenagers are coming in and we know they are being sefrnt out into other communities in the country. we are safe in law enforcement with a difficult threat as you say not knowing who are these individuals, what has been their history in the countries they

of this toxic material that is close to an intake or the drinking water for the people of toledo and put them in considerable jeopardy. not the looets east of it if yo water which is something you can do to make it more pure and drinkable it makes it more toxic. >> you can't bathe in it, you can't cook in it, you can't boil it. frightening stuff. it remind me of how critical our infrastructure is. we have talked about the vil ner ability of our infrastructure whether it be electrical or water. our not being the most popular around what do you fear? >> there are two pieces of this. won the naturally occurring

phenomenon like this exercise in toledo or in the case of the electric grid an immense solar storm may have devastating effects on this critical infrastructure. so can enemy action with respect to drinking water supplies and the grid. in both cases it seems to me we need a different posture, a different attitude with this starting point a different attitude to get us to a different posture with respect to the insfrau tubing to-- infrastructure question. our nation cannot sustain the kind of population size we have today some 300 million people. the infrastructure we rely on whether it's the power grid or all of the things it makes possible from drinking water to food distribution to medicine to transportation, telecommunications and finances

if all of that were to go away so would all of us. we need to try to help people understand what these vulnerabilities are and how we can take steps particularly with the case of the grid to remedy as the defense department has done for 50 years. >> we have spoken about this on the storm and all of the vulnerabilities. with all that we do the viewers are very interested in this. they want to know where they can go for food or water and how they survive. but i never thought that i would hear that the water was poisoned basically by allergy. if that's the case it seems like a relatively easy thing to happen. what about congress? what are they doing? >> i am heartened to say with respect to the business about

the electric grid being vulnerable to everything kind of solar storms two years ago in the the last week or so which very nearly hit our planet and would have caused devastating effects to the kind of man caused effects with similar kind of damage. there is a bill in the homeland security committee called the critical infrastructure act and congressman pete sessions and michael mccall the chairman of the committee who has been one of our guests, judge, has indicated he intends to bring this bill that will establish as a national planning scenario this kind of threat which for the first time really put it on the map with the federal level and state local level kwho are responsible for helping us survive these kind of contingencies. it is a first step from the
