approved a republican bill to give help in the border. with the senate in a five week recess, there is little chance that legislation will go through. the president spoke about the bill in a press conference earlier on friday. >> house republicans as we speak are trying to past the most extreme and unworkable versions of a bill that they already know is going no where. they can't pass the senate and if it were to pass the senate i would veto it, they continue. >> a senate measure that was approved prevents the president from expanding programs for imgrants. tennessee congresswoman marshala blackburn introduced that plan and joins us from nashville. >> great to be here, thank you. >> i want to begin with a question raised by the wall street journal in the saturday

morning edition and indicating that the house legislation was driven by jeff sessions and ted cruz and the house members. is that how it went down? >> it was house legislation. i can tell you they worked with a group of 20 members late in the evening on thursday to get something that would be workable and would keep our commitment that we made to secure the border first. we knew we had to change catch and release. we had to make sure there was a plan to get the children back to their families in their home country. no comprehensive bill. one thing in a time. separately, dealing with the deferred childhood program that was my legislation basically that takes away the president's ability to grant amnesty. >> explain the bill that you

sponsored and pushed through. help our viewers to sort of see how that works. >> right. what is happening, the president would delay or defer the hearing for children that are coming in the u.s. for a period of two years and allow them to go ahead and get a work permit. this is for children in the country or either children who had come here has children. and this was done by executive order and not statute, but executive order that was signed june 15th, 2012, and put in action august 15th, 2012. if you look at the escalation rate of illegal aliens coming to the country from that period of time, it is absolutely astounding. 2009 to this year there is a 300 percent increase and next year

expecting a 113 percent increase. we are freezing the program and as of july 30th no federal money can be spent on the doca program or work authorization to those who unlawfully enter the country. we voted in such a way, that it would handicap the president and keep him while we are away in august trying to grant amnesty to another class or grouch aliens entering the country. >> i am confused, because the president was in the podium and we played the clip. well congress is not doing anything and they will not act and of course, the senate has gone home and he threatened to veto a bill he didn't personally right. i don't know how he became the

monarch rather than the president. how frustrating is. it you stayed there and got a bill done and yet he says that you are not doing anything. >> that's what he wants to say and harry reid the same thing. we have 367 bills on harry reid's desk. we want to uphold the constitution. article one, section eight calls for, gives the process of naturalization to congress, not to the executive branch. this is the jurisdiction of the house. it is laid out in the constitution and when you look at the enumerated powers little further in the section enumeration for the executive branch, there is nothing that deals with naturalization. and so the president is outside of the law. this is a lawless administration. and what he had done was to go in and try to put in place a way

to provide citizenship or amnesty and now we heard he was going to expand the program and governor, we feel like it is imperative that we stand for the rule of law. we are a nation of laws that recognizes and respects the rule of law. and it is imperative that the u.s. house of representative take the lead in standing for the constitution and saying mr. president, this is not an action that you can take. >> you have clearly done your job and one of the reasons that we want viewers to hear from you. and not only what you did, but in fact congress did what they were supposed to do. we appreciate you joining us. >> absolutely. thank you so much, governor. joins us from the israel- gaza board. and john, good to have you on and what was the reaction when the prime minister pushed back hard against the u.s. administration and said don't second guess us again. >> reporter: the polls show 80 percent of the resident support operation protectionive edge as it continues. prime minister netanyahu you mentioned what he said to u.s. officials and he maintained that he has to be trusted when it comes to the issue of hamas' unwillingness to engage in ceasefire agreement or produce or peace talks. and he maintained, prime minister netanyahu, that israel should not be forced in to any trust with palestinian mill at that points. you are right. he's pushing back against the u.s. officials and this as israel continues its operation and we are hearing that it is getting close. the operation particular of

destroying hamas' network of tunnels and governor, we got to go into one of those tunnels. it was a quarter mile from the gaza border and close to a kibbutz. and 50 feet deep and total mile and half long. it was eerie going in there. we went 100 feet deep and three feet wide and five feet high. this is one of the tunnels that hamas has been using to transport gups and transport cargo and also to infiltrate israel which is the main concern and primary objective of the israeli operation. >> i want to ask you a yes or no. how effective is the morale of the israeli soldier. is it up? and are they confident of victory?

>> reporter: the morale is high. i have a friend that is a sergeant and reservist. he said the morale is high and everybody wants to complete the mission of operation protective edge. they want to go back home to family, wives and girlfriends but not without the objective being completed. >> be careful and safe and we want to see you back well. thank you very much, john. my next guest is an american. his wife and four kids were vacationing in israel. concerned for the safety, he flew out there with the intention of bringing them back to the u.s. he doesn't want to let the terrorist win by going home early. david joined me by the wayway of skype in the family bunker. it is a pleasure to have you joining us. >> thank you.

>> you notoriety bunker, by law every new house in israel has to have a bunker for moments like this. i don't think the mefrns understand the ongoing threat israel faces. what happens when the alarm goes off and when was the last one that took your family to the bunker. >> we were woke up by blaring alarms and we have to paint the picture. u.s. cities attacks by rockets and what would our reaction be. we have had them at two toifl tiefl 30. and blaring loud sirens and you know you have less than 60 seconds to get up and grab your entire family. and we have 12 people staying here. four kids and my wife and pregnant sister-in-law who is due any day. and her son and a few more people.

and you have under one minute to rush to the bunker and you hear the iron dome striking back and shaking the apartment from the natural shot or connecting with a missile coming toward your town. >> how long are nut bunker? 30 minutes or hour? >> what is the time frame. >> minimum ten minutes and we say 15 or 20 to play it safe. sometimes the rockets are on border aring towns and we'll hear the iron dome firing in other cities as well. we stay put and we have a computer which i am coming to you live and we have the breaking news and follow where it happen and when it happen. >> you know a lot of people may have a hard time envisioning what eight by eight looks like. the 12 of you have to huddle into so quickly. >> yes, eight by eight.

and right here, we have a bed that fortunately the kids didn't wake up and we laid them down on the bed. we have a make- shift window that is covered by a steel door. it is like a submarine knob. it is a fire escape if necessary and we are trapped in here. we have supplies and chargers for the phone and flashlights and air conditioning right there. and i am trying to get the picture in there. and we have blankets for the kids and pull out sofa and that's about it. it is not much room in the eight by eight room. >> i hope you don't have to go too many more times. david, you could have gone and got your family back it new york. and why did you stay? >> you know, traveling to the

airport is 45 minute drive from here. now, driving in the car, you are on the highway, if an alarm goes off you have to jump out and hit the deck. my kids, they still don't know what is going on here. and to be honest. after a few weeks of being here. you have a sense of solidarity. i have roots here and my wife was born here as well. and we are proud of the job they are doing. and hope to be home very soon. but i would love to have this thing end and so we can see the rest of our family, because they are in cities that are under attacks worse than we are. >> david, be safe. and thank you for joaning us. you heard the impact that it is

having on the the israeli side. according to the president of the arab- american institute, we are not getting the palestinian side of the story.

my next guest said the reporting of the conflict of the middle east is unbalanced and bised for israel. he said the media is not giving the palestinians a fair shake. joining us is the founder of the palestinian institute james hogbee. >> i think globally it has been in favor of the palestinians and you feel differently, explain why? here's the issue the person from

the bunker, there are many stories that are told like that about palestinians in shelters or staying in their homes because they have no where to go or there is a catholic church in gaza city that is currently housing 300 people, the nuns have left, but the priest is there with the folks in the neighborhood who had no where to go and they have been told that bombing will take place in their neighborhood and they are to leave, he writes a poignant note, this is a shelter and no where to go. why are they bombing in this neighborhood? there are plenty of stories and not only the story that is happening, but the napes and the ages and the five-year-old kids, traumatized and mothers and also with the pregnant babies or new borns who are now frightened for their children to survive.

it is a war that affects people and the casulties on the palestinians far exceed anything that your viewers can imagine. but each one of those casulty system a personal story and that's what the press here doesn't tell. >> this is from scott pelly. this is how he opened the cbs newscast. >> good evening, there was no escaping the war today, not for the palestinians who sought shelter in a united nations school in the northern gaza strip. >> that was scott pelly. >> television news has done a wonderful job. >> but jim, let me ask you. >> what about print media and washington post, it was horrific and they have gotten better. >> jim, this would not have happen when hamas that is a terrorist organization was not firing indiscriminately into israel and attempting to kill the civilians and there would be

more dead israelis if not for the technology of the israeles and the iron dome. shouldn't the pressure be put on hamas? >> and on israel as well. >> what kind of pressure on israel. don't they have a right to defend themselves on the attacks. >> i have often quoted a friend of mine, an israeli arab who once told palestinians who are arguing for the right to resist. you have the right to resist you have used so badly. israel forfeted the right. >> when you had the situation in the bunker with two israelis killed and then one apparently captured and we don't know his fate now. in response to that israel killed 150 people who had nothing to do with that bunker and nothing to do at all with

the crime that israel said was committed and basically a conflict between soldiers entering and a it should have been left at that. but to keep 150 people from the act is a act of collective punishment and should not have happen. our bible said an eye for an eye. it doesn't say 150 eyes for two. >> no, but it make its clear when israel is being shelled with people who celebrate every israeli death. israel has not celebrated the deaths of the palestinians and they wouldn't go in there but they have to get rid of the tunnel network. >> i have seen the guys in the lawn chair in gaza and they are looking at them like a fire work show. it is not humanity on the one side and devil on the other.

you have two human groups of people. palestinians suffering disporportionately and understand the conflict didn't begin only by the shelling of hamas which i condemn. it began with the closure and strangulation of gaza and gaza people are badly governed to be sure and horrifically treated by them. and so they would know how much food to let in. and that's not the way to treat gaza like an open prison camp. and you create despair. >> we are out of time. if they were not ruled by a terrorist organization, there could be a lot of things going on differently. >> yes. there wouldn't be a terrorist organization if not despair and anger. >> unfortunately we can't continue because our time is gone.

we have thousands and thousands of people every day go in this precious item out of the earth to run our factories and why now? and the answer is, he doesn't know who we are. you know, governor, we invited him to come to the coal nation. mr. president, come and walk and get off of the back nine and get in the mine and i want you to see what these people do. and he thinks the same way, and cling to your bibles and guns and insignificant. i will tell him mr. president you are off of the mark. this is what made america great. in a global economy that we should be dominating right now, the president plays, the victim. whether on a domestic or international issue accident this is the president, the leader of the greatest country

in the free world. stop being the victim and be an advocate for america. a special goodbye to a very special lady in my life. my mother-in-law pat stevens who passed away this week at the age of 84 after a long and courageous battle with alzheimer's disease. she was a remarkable lady who as a single mom raised six kids during a time when there were not that many single moms. she saw that her children had clothes, food on the table and an immaculate home and she did it without government assistance shelf and her children were in church every week. i'm sure because she knew they needed the moral influence. i have to wonder if just a little of it may be of some relief from the noise that was a part of their lives. she was a meticulous planner and organizer because she had to be in order to take care of all of

her responsibilities with both work and home. she made detailed lists and she accomplished everything she put on them. she was a true executive in that she outlined the task, assign and had responsibilities for each of her children and then followed up on the completion of the task. and held each of her children accountable for the results. she lived her life for her children. her greatest moments were when they were all together. how fitting that when news came of a sudden crisis in her condition that would enher life less than 24 hours later, all her children and their spouses were gathered at our house for what was supposed to be the first ever reunion of all the brothers and sisters that wasn't part of a christmas, thanksgiving or mother's day. it was as if she saw them together, having a good time and decided it was a good time to go. in proverbs, a godly woman is described as one whose children rise up to call her blessed.
