today first from fox at 3:00 in new york city, israel may be pulling its troops out of gaza with our without a cease fire deal. that's what a senior israeli official is telling fox news. comes after fighting seemed to wind down over the weekend, and today, reporters say hamas fired fewer rockets and many israeli troops packed up and rolled out bump the apparent lull came to a deadly end with two attacks on israeli soil. someone used a bulldozer to ram and flip over a bus. a surveillance camera caught the attack. you can see the vehicle's arm digging into the side of the buzz. cops say it killed a pedestrian before officers shot and killed the attacker. >> israeli media report a gunman on a motorcycle seriously wounded a soldier. that soldier got away. meantime, the united states is slamming israel for yet another strike on the unites nations school that palestinians used for shelter. officials report ten people died
12:02 pm
in a strike yesterday, an attack a state take place spokesman says is disgraceful and the united states is appalled. the israeli claims hamas intentionally stores weapons around civilians, but the white house today said that is no excuse for killing innocent people. >> that suspicion that hamas fighters are operating in the vicinity of innocent civilians does not justify taking strikes that put the lives of innocent civilians at risk. >> officials say nearly 1900 palestinians and close to 70 israelis have died in the last few weeks of fighting. that makes this the bloodiest round of fighting ever between israel and hamas. rick leventhal is live in gaza city. what did you see in the city? >> reporter: the damages here are extensive. one of the things we noticed is this constant sound of drones overhead. you might be able too hear it. the whine. you can probably hear that. they're circling all day and all
12:03 pm
night but the neighborhoods themselves completely devastated by these constant barrages from israeli military. at least 10,000 buildings have been estimated to be heavily damaged or destroyed in this 28-day war. we saw one of them in the el sidra neighborhood yesterday. it's been reduced to rubble now. we also arrived at another location moments after another rock hit a building there. a very regular occurrence here in gaza. multiple strikes also in rafa to the south yesterday and today. two houses destroyed in gaza city this morning that left several dead and a couple dozen injured. of course, hamas has been blamed by israel for creating all these civilian casualties because hamas is alsoly putting palestinians in harm's way using them as human shields, but gaza is about the size of detroit, but has three times as many people. 1.8 million residents. so when you do launch an attack here it's very likely you'll see
12:04 pm
civilian casualties. >> what have you learned about the bus attack? >> reporter: it's interesting. a couple of similar incidents in the same area in jerusalem. back in 2008 there were several killed and dozens injured after palestinians stole a bulldozer and a tractor and attacked a bus and a police car. but fortunately in this case, the bus was empty except for the driver, who was hurt, happens to be an arab. the 29-year-old pedestrian killed in the attack was father of five. police say the suspect was a palestine an with an extensive criminal record who is living in east jerusalem, and officials say they are now on alert for more possible attacks. >> rick, thanks very much. let's bring in from tel aviv the former ambassador. >> good to be with you. >> sounds like this is winding down. is this going to end and under what circumstances?
12:05 pm
>> i don't think it's winding down. it is changing shape. the israeli army is pulling out of northern gaza, telling palestinian residents that the area they can return to their homes. but israel was hit by 100 rocketedded today. two terrorist attacks in jerusalem. i'm speaking to you from tell alleve and they're on high alert on the possibility of a big-scale terrorist attack. this may be far from over. israel will continue military operations to attack the rocket crews firing these rockets at israeli civilians. and hamas shows no sign of giving in. supposed to be a 72-hour cease fire. nobody is ceasing firing on the palestinian side. >> sounds like you're losing support, or some of it. the united states reports it's appalled by the action. the united nations has gone to a school that was hit last wednesday or july 30th, i should say, and say they have examined the shrapnel and appears the israeli military is using heavy artillery not
12:06 pm
designed for precision strikes. what can israel do to limit he's strikes being seen around the world? >> israel has done the utmost in its attempt to limit the impact and suffering on palestinian civilians, but we're dealing with a terrorist -- >> haven't done enough. >> if know i'll get to that in a second. we're fighting a terrorist organization. it's a fact. terrorist organization that deeply dug in behind the civilians. it's using u.n. schools, it's using u.n. and clinics -- we had three soldiers killed the other day in a u.n. medical clinic that had been booby trapped. the u.n. itself admits institutions, including schools, has been used as rocket stockpiles by hamas, and hamas is trying to fire around the schools on purpose to draw israeli fire so israelis will inflict civilian casualties and then you've get those condemnations in the world. that's precisely hamas' strategy. i'm not an ambassador anymore. i'm a citizen of the state of
12:07 pm
israel and i'm disappointed in the american reaction. we need understanding from our allies. america as fought against terrorist groups, al qaeda, that are almost identical to hamas and they know how terrorist groups use the population as human shields and how they tried too use our democratic values against us. and we need our allies to stick by us. when the united states accidentally -- i stress accidentally -- hurt and killed civilians in afghanistan and pakistan, of course, americans thought of that as a strategy but the state of israel did not condemn it. we understood that fighting terror is very complex and sometimes innocent people get hurt. >> when you were ambassador in 2013, john kerr where was walking on peace talks and israel listened into the conversations of secretary kerry when he was working on that. were you aware? >> that's a claim made by one german paper today. i know nothing about that and it seems highly unlikely.
12:08 pm
>> is that an -- has there been an official denial, and if not, why not? >> i would deny it from the time i was ambassador, we weren't listening on anything. >> sir, nice to see you, thank you. >> thank you, shep. >> another american mission mary set with ebola set to nye back to the united states tomorrow. fors here already trying to save her partner's life. and overseas, health workers are struggling to contain an outbreak of one of the world's deadliest diseases. are they getting close to figuring out oh to stop this? live coverage ahead from the fox news deck. honey, look i got one to land. uh-huh. cease fire, just withdraw the troops and only respond when hamas attacks, there's a rocket attack or something like that. israel can say we degrade hamas' capabilities, perhaps we destroyed quite a bit of the tunnel infrastructure, which was the primary goal of the ground separation, but haven't done much to change the conditions or georgia and might be buying time until the next round of fighting. >> there are concerns among analysts they created a lot more enemies also they hit school after school and killed civilian after civilian, that they've got a whole new set of people to worry about. >> well, i think, shep, only time will tell. certainly there's a lot of international outrage at israel right now, and that benefits hamas in a sense. gives hamas claim to some sort of political victory. on the other hand the question is, over the medium to long term, will that still be the case? we saw in lebanon, for example, after the 2006 war, that in fact

has no choice, and so far we haven't seen that. >> i wonder who is going to help them get in there and repair things. they're not opening the border crossings. is this israel's mess to clean up now? >> well, i think you'll see perhaps some international aid come in and one question will be, does that get funneled through hamas or through the pa? i think from the u.s. perspective it's pent important it glows the palestinian authority but hamas, if it remains the power there on the ground, if there isn't a solution to that problem, then in fact perhaps you haven't changed fundamentally the conditions on the ground necessary to prevent the next conflict or, frankly to prevent hamas from rearming itself and put is -- itself in a position to cause more damage. >> michael, thank you. >> thank you, shep. >> contaminated chicken could be making its way to your local supermarket. that is the warning from a watch doing -- watch dog group geri
