potential to save lives. that is an amazing thing to watch. we'll stay on the story as it happens on fox news channel that. will do it for "outnumbered." let's get right away to "happening now." [ outnumbered. we'll get right away to happening now. >> continuing this fox news alert. the woman on the right of the screen. nancy wrightbol, second american infected with the ebola virus brought toes atlanta. it is a special containment unit where a highly contagious disease and where they will continue to try to treat her for the ebola virus. it killed nearly 800 people in africa she treated people who were infected and she's back in
10:01 am
the states and we hope will get the care to preserve her life. >> the virus is deadly and 90 percent fatalities if you contract the virus. in the recent outbreak that is along the lines of 60 percent and still a deadly disease. and this as we know it is only the second american to return to u.s. soil to be treated at this special facility in atlanta. and one of the things that we are talking about today, this report that we received about both of these americans receiving a special treatment that still in the experimental stage. they call it an experimental serum that apparently had positive affects. what we know about it is still very vague at this time. our guest coming up later, jon, said by next year at this time,
10:02 am
we'll have a vaccine for ebola and perhaps the story would be different if we did. as of right now, there is no cure. >> we will continue our coverage of nancy writebol's approval in the state. first, tense moments in the sky as a passenger jet is forced to land with a fighter jet escort. i am jon scott. >> and i am jenna lee. a qatar airline flight was escorted by royal air force fighter jets. plane forced to land after a warning of a suspicious device. a man is in custody suspected of a bomb threat hoax. >> reporter: it was a bit of a scare in the skies here today and it turned out to be a suspected hoax and not the real thing. the qatar airways fight was
10:03 am
coming and 4269 passengers and 13 crew on board and set to land in manchester airport in the uk earlier this afternoon, and the pilot was warned of a possibly dangerous device on board. he got word to the authorities and they scrambled the fighter jet to see if anything suspicious was found on the exterror of the plane. it was forced to land and the manchester airport was shut down. flights diverted and rescue vehicles rolled out in a full emergency activation. then, specialist police officers took away a 47-year-old man, a passenger from the area. he was arrested on suspicion of making a bomb hoax and he remains in police custody. they searched the entire plane and they found nothing suspicious on board. flights have resumed at the
10:04 am
airport that is said to be back to normal and a lot of folks were breathing a big sigh of relief. there is a lot of concern and activity, but authorities didn't know if the threat was genuine or not and they were not taking any chances. jenna? >> thank you. israel withdrawing the ground forces with gaza. they are expected to set the stage for a peace talk. >> reporter: jon, it is a rare peace in gaza. there was incoming fire and outgoing rockets this morning before the ceasefire took affect. but at 8 o'clock a.m., it has been calm. and the residents are taking advantage of the temporarily withdrawal to go home and salvaging what they can from the devastated neighborhoods. one of the hardest is east gaza
10:05 am
right on the israeli border and it is it a staggering sight there. word and pictures can't explain the destruction. every street, and building and home damaged or flattened by the israeli military after lengthy battles with hamas militants and follow-up prayings to bury the hamas tunnels under conkret and cement. it is not pretty in the least bit. but most of gaza is standing and markets and stores opened stores and selling fruit, nuts and household goods to residents who were reluctant to love his home. i saw a food vendor was grinning and he said the bad people left. he said we don't need business. we need quiet. at least one day, they have that quiet. >> let's hope that can continue.
10:06 am
rick, on the gaza/israeli border. >> the pentagon said one american was killed in an insider attack on a military base in afghanistman opened fir the base west of kabul. more than a dozen others were hurt and this is still a developing story and we'll have more on this later on. >> america's election head quart quarte quarters, washington, michigan and kansas the laces to watch for the society of a long time incumbent challenger. and carl has more outside of kansas city with this. >> reporter: yes, dr. milton wolf is president obama's second cousin once removed on the
10:07 am
president's side of the family. and giving pat roberts a race. the incumbent is seeking a fourth term and pushing hard and one of the criticisms against him by his republican rival, a tea party darling and a physician here in kansas. he's not come back to kansas and visited with his constitiency. he lives in virginia and rents out his house here. you hear people talking about milton wolf positively and when they are looking for change in washington and those who support pat roberts. we have a low turn out here today. and listen to those for milton wolf. >> milton wolf has been too radical for me and also the scandal of his releasing the
10:08 am
x-ray pictures on facebook kind of turned me off. >> that's one of the real controversies of the race. before he became a physician, he posted pictures of gun shot victims with captions that are controversial. that is a principle liability. and roberts spending so much time in washington, he's considered to ignore his state and not conservative enough. they think it is time for change and wolf represents it. >> we need fresh blood in the senate and he has good ideas. this is going to be a tough one. folks in kansas are worried if they are supporter ares of pat roberts, the tea party could off the the first incumbent in the
10:09 am
senate. if roberts hangs on, it is considered a major defeat for the tea party as well. >> thank you, carl. analysis. we'll bring in our political power a b stoodard columnist for the hill and jonah gold berg is a fox news contributor. a b, to you first, is this a tea party versus establishment republican race, how dow describe it? >> it is not the traditional ininsurgent challenge versus the incumbent. milton wolf hasn't been backed and he is a weak candidate. those who had promise on the other side were backed by the club for growth and toppled incumbents and succeeded in insurgent races.
10:10 am
and milton wolf is a weak cappedidate not only because he doesn't have a great record in the state as someone who is well known, but also because of the photos on facebook. pat robert system not a moderate. he's quite conservative, but he is definition of a washington insider. his wife has solid real estate in virginia. and he literally does not live in the state of kansas. it is true as carl missions. that the establishment is trying to make sure they protect the incumbent senators and discipline so with mccon and he will cochran in mississippi and hoping to keep roberts in today. jonnah, any predictions. >> no, i am a pundit. and i think a b is largely right about this and certainly follows
10:11 am
them. i think milton wolf, if he were a better candidate. thaft won in nebraska. and candidates matter, it is possible that milton wolf pulled it out. what is interesting in michigan, you are not seeing so much on the tea party but the libertarian resurgence and a couple of other candidates there. you can't call it a tea party thing. it is different than michigan in the past. >> wanting much of what they are losing in the race, no matter the politics, they are losing committee time and longivity in the congress with what is going on in michigan.
10:12 am
and they are not people who are not long- time incumbents that the voters want to see retired. dave camden leaving and congressman mike rogers and chairman of the house intelligence committee, they are very respected republicans in the congress on both sides of the aisle and senate carl levin retiring and michigan is losing a lot of experience and from members they did not want to see go. >> ab and jonna thank you. >> you think the tea party will make inroads this primary season? yes, no. and click on america's asking and get in on the conversation. >> new york yankee star alex rodriguez currently in the middle of a suspension for using steroids and now the man accused of supplying him drugs is

coumo. and federal investigators are looking into whether top aids to the governor improperly interferred with the work of the governor's anti- corruption commission. and according to the wall street journal. nbc four marist poll. they shouldn't have had input in the work of the commission. 52 percent called that unethiccal. they join us live and it looks like a problem for the governor. >> it is allegations and nothing is proven yet. governor coumo. and a statewide level and instances of corruption in many years and once that commission. it is close to the political supporter of him. he disbands the commission and
10:20 am
then there is an investigation by the law enforcement. it is a u.s. attorney for the 7th district. allegations are that cuomo's people reached out to the the commissioners that were disbanded and try to get them to say nice things about the governor. what do you have here according to the allegations. we have good old fashioned obstruction of justice. when you cover politics. it is the cover up and not the crime that gets these guys and it is serious stuff. we should point out it is major players in the democratic party circles. and the notion of a democratic and appointed by president obama and the notion of him taking it

out. also has political aspirations nationally, that is a big story. i will say this. they have been very good u.s. attorney and knows what it takes to move up the seat to it higher office and maybe cuomo is the big fish we are looking for. cuomo as memory serves is a former attorney general. >> and that is statewide office. he's someone who knows a thing or two about obstruction of justice. it is interesting to see what they came up with. >> second american aid worker affected by the ebola office. we are going to look at treatment we received and what is done here to stop the threat of infectious diseases like ebola.

10:26 am
exploweration. >> the missionary group in africa is that nancy worked with will have a news conference. she arrived in georgia and taken in to atlanta emory university hospital on a stretcher and dr. anthony is a director infectious diseases. we saw a very stark contrast of the arrival of mrs. writebol into emory university and hopefully we can show our viewers. dr. brantly got out of the ambulance and walked himself in the hospital and mrs. writebol was on a stretcher and our eyes are just telling us the little that we know about this. doctor, should we make anything of it and does it mean she is worse off than dr. brantly. she may be too weak to get to
10:27 am
the hospital door and room on her own strength. the people in the ambulance and carrying for her on the trip made the judgment because of how she felt it would be better to put her on a stretcher and gurney to get her in the hospital. it is likely that she is weaker and not as in good of condition as dr. brantly. but not seeing the person in person, it is difficult to say. it was a prudent judgment. >> it could be a safety issue and making sure she is getting in the hospital room safe rather than her own accord. there is a age difference between dr. brantly and nancy as well. 33 years old versus 59 years old. does this disease discriminate
10:28 am
on age? is it far worse to get as you are older or an equal opportunity. >> no. any disease that is a serious illness that can kill you the way ebola can. people who are older and elderly, generally have more of a problem than very young people. being in your 30s is different than being almost 60. that may not be the overwhelming factor but that is the factor in any disease. when you approach being an elderly person you don't have the same reserve a young person has. >> i am curous to know how they are approached differently. i hoped you could talk to us about the serum and zmax that they received. what do you know about it? >> it is a cocktail of three
10:29 am
antibodies. an antibody is a protein that the body generally makes to find against infections. generally the body makes it when you get infected or when you get vaccinated. this was a product that was artificially made and infused in to dr. brantly and nancy writebol. so far, we're hearing reports from the ground that there were positive affects. but as you are dealing with two patients it is difficult to determine exactly what the degree of positive affect was. the product itself is a combination of antibodies that are designed to block the virus or in essence fight. >> what about the two folks that received the serum. and we are talking about the disease in the united states because that is a concern. if that is a concern in africa, and british airways cancelled
10:30 am
flights to liberria and sierra leon. and how have access to this sam experimental serum. how concerned are you about this outbreak in africa and this might just be the beginning and this outbreak could be spinning more out of control? >> well, obviously we are all concerned about the outbreak in the western african countries. it's out of control. in many respects it's catastrophic, mostly because those countries don't have the health care infrastructure to be able to handle a disease that spreads the way it spreads. not having the capability of isolating properly, not having the equipment to be able to take care of people with personal protective equipment, but probably as important, or even more importantly, is the customs and tradition in the country where people shy away from bringing sick people to the hospitals and bring them to their own homes and try and take care of them themselves without
10:31 am
any isolation capability which leads to spread within family members, when they tend to the body after a person dies. that's how it is spread. >> i know that tradition is obviously not repeated here. with only 30 seconds, we are getting another report more people have been tested in the new york city area for ebola. i'm just curious as we get more of these reports throughout the day, doctor, are you concerned about what happens here? >> no. i think that what you're going to see is people who have been traveling to that region. and it is very common, long before there was any problem with ebola, that people come back from those areas that have diarrhea or fever, and if they go to a hospital, they'll do what you've seen in the new york area where fuphysicians come in take a history and see whether they think it is ebola or not. if they think it is, they'll isolate the person. >> as we hear about it more obviously with the news, and important news to cover, as it

10:35 am
a fox news alert -- the pentagon confirming moments ago an american general was killed in an insider attack at a military base in afghanistan. more than a dozen were injured.
10:36 am
many of them americans. >> this insider, or green-on-blue attack, occurred at what is known as the west point of afghanistan. the training university for afghan national army soldiers, for their officers, which is just west of kabul. among the dead -- a general officer of the united states army. he becomes the highest ranking military officer to be killed in action since a three-star general lost his life at pentagon in the 9/11 attacks. pentagon officials would not identify him, nor any of the wounded. >> there are a number of casualties as a result of the shooting, perhaps up to 15, to include some americans. many were seriously wounded. others received only minor injuries. the assailant was killed. i can also confirm that among the casualties was an american general officer who was killed. given that the family notification process is not yet complete, i cannot, and will not, release any additional information about the general.
10:37 am
>> kirby added details are few since the investigation is literally just getting under way. he described the attacker as a member of the afghan national army but went no further. insider attacks in afghanistan have actually declined since a high of 44 of them in the year 2012 to only three this year, including today's attack. in large part due to protective measures that isis forces have taken when they were in the presence of afghan army personnel or those who are pretending to be army personnel. but make no mistake, this is a terrible blow to the military despite the pentagon's efforts to put the best face on the drawndown of u.s. forces which begins at the end of this year. >> the afghan security forces continue to perform at a very strong level of competent and confidence and warfare capability. >> history suggests we could be in vae very stormy transition.
10:38 am
in 1989, wh. in the 1840s, british forces suffered a terrible massacre as thousands of their soldiers were killed as they withdrew from afghanistan killed by the tribal ancestors of the taliban who wreak such havoc today. right now, a pre-trial hearing is under way. you are looking live in the courtroom. this is a case that has received a lot of attention on fox news and elsewhere. 27-year-old mom from pennsylvania is facing felony charges for carrying her legally registered firearm into another state. we're talking about this woman. she has a permit to carry a gun in pennsylvania. but she says she didn't know it doesn't carry any weight in new jersey. so when she crossed the line into new jersey and was stopped by a traffic officer, well, that trip turned into a nightmare.
10:39 am
now she is facing possibility of prison time. she explained it on fox and friends. >> initially when they stop me, i just let the police know that before they went in my purse to get my credentials, that i had my firearm and i have a license to carry. >> you told the police this. you were honest and up front with they will. >> yes. >> so what is going to happen today? again, the pre-trial hearing under way now. david lee miller joins us live from the courthouse in new jersey. mays landing. >> reporter: john, janine allen bought that gun to protect her life. now it threatens to destroy it. a pre-trial hearing is under way behind me and her attorneys are doing everything they can to keep her from going to prison for are what they describe as an innocent mistake. this philadelphia mom says nothing is more important than her two kids. she's worry who will take care of them if convicted of illegal
10:40 am
gun possession. allen faces a minimum of three years in prison. >> my fear is that my kids won't be taken care of the right way like i can and that they will be without their mom. >> reporter: her legal troubles began in oblt october when stopped along this road by new jersey state police formakering an unsafe lane change. she voluntarily told the officers she had the weapon in her purse. she also had her firearms license issued in her home state of pennsylvania where she purchased the gun. what she didn't know was that her pistol permit had no validity in new jersey and that she had broken the law. >> this is not a heinous crime that i did. i didn't wave it, i didn't point it, i didn't shoot it. i didn't harm anyone and i told the truth. >> the prosecutor's office turned down her request to take part in a program for non-violent offenders that could have kept her out of prison. gun control advocates say out of
10:41 am
state gun owners traveling out of new jersey have an obligation to know the law. >> this is to make sure the public is safe from go up violence. >> reporter: this case has national implications. her attorneys hope that it paves the way for state to state reciprocity of gun permits. much in the same way that states honor driver's licenses from other states. top priority for her attorneys right now though is keeping her from going to prison. >> david lee, thank you. we just heard that advocate for the strict sentencing saying overwhelming public. i think she didn't quite get her words right there. making sure that the overwhelming public, she said, is safe from gun violence. this wasn't a violent woman. >> was not a violent woman. clearly a mistake. but to be fair, ignorance of the law is no excuse. if it were, every time you didn't know a law in a particular state and you violated that state law you would just say i didn't know, and you would go free. we don't want that.
10:42 am
what they haven't done yet and this they should do is let her go on the diversionary treatment, so she does have some punishment but not prison. >> the prosecutor seems to be trying to make an example of this woman. >> makes no sense. prosecutorial discretion dictates. anybody who's been a prosecutor, you say there is a literal violation of the law. look at the overall circumstances. >> no criminal history. >> no criminal history. totally validly licensed. these prosecutors would be crazy not to put her into some type of diversionary program. >> but they have that option and they chose to go the hard way. >> they can still come back from that. they can start out strong and l the way, then walk that back and let her go through this program. >> single mom, two kids. what is the benefit to society of putting this woman in prison for three months? >> zero. zero. funny you say that. that's going to be a major factor. the children are unintended beneficiaries. there is no way they're going to
10:43 am
imprison her with the young children. it will come out right, hopefully. >> if she had any kind of criminal history i would disagree with doug. but because she doesn't, i think that's right. >> you think she's not likely to see prison time. >> i don't think she'll get convicted of a felony. >> she'll go through this program. if she stays clean, it will be expunged. >> like a pre-trial diversion. >> let's hope there are some people with sense in new jersey. we'll take a look at what's going on in the markets right now. it is quickly moving in the wrong direction. the dow trading lower by 140 points or so. it continues again to go the wrong way. stocks lower as investors digest a slew of economic reports and corporate engs as wearnings tha below forecast. let's talk a little bit about gold. there is much more than gold and treasure being discovered in a shipwreck off the atlantic coast. more on the secrets from beneath.

hello, everyone. coming up, we are live at the hospital where the second ebola victim has just arrived. we are waiting a press conference on her condition. and kent brantly, american doctor with ebola who's already here in the u.s., gave a powerful sermon at his church before he left for africa. you'll hear some of that and we'll ask his pastor about those inspiring words and who called the doctor to serve. plus, an off-duty border agent shot and killed while fishing over the weekend. brand-new details about who has been apprehended and when they were actually in this country legally. all coming up at the top of the hour. see you then. explorers are recovering a

treasure of gold and silver worth millions of dollars from a ship that went down off the coast of south carolina more than 150 years ago. they're finding more than just gold. joining us now, mark gordon, president of odyssey marine exploration, the company leading the recovery. tell us a little bit about this ship and what happened to it. >> yeah, it's an amazing story. this ship sunk in 1857 in a hurricane and the loss of this ship actually set off the financial panic of 1857. >> why hasn't anyone been able to go down and get the stuff off the ocean floor until now? >> well, it's interesting. a group of explorers in the 1980s actually originally located this wreck and did some preliminary work on it, some pretty significant work. it's just now technology has advanced to a point where we can go back and actually take this ship apart, bit by bit and make sure everything that's interesting to be recovered is recovered. >> i want to ask you about some
10:49 am
of those interesting things in a moment. but before i do, how challenging is it to do this sort of expedition? >> you know, this is what we do every day. it is interesting, last year when we spoke, we were taking apart a steel ship in 15,400 feet of water. this is 7,200 feet of water, certainly deep, but well within our capability. we have the best team and best technology to do it. >> you would say how much is still left there? we mentioned some gold and silver and some of what's been brought up but how much is still left to be discovered? >> you know, it is hard to say. estimates range from 250,000 to 1 million in 1857 value remaining to be recovered. from records we've already released to the courts, we've probably got at least $120,000 in 1857 face value which would be worth a lot more in today's currency because of the collectible value. so there could be a significant amount to go. our team is out there actually
10:50 am
recovering valuable items as we speak. >> i want to ask more about those valuable items but i have to take a quick commercial break. after we get back from it, i want to know about some of the most spectacular things you have found. i know you've seen everything from old photographs toinside. there's a lot to be uncovered. we have a quick commercial break. we'll find out from mark some of the good stuff that's down there. >> i love this story. ing our co. thank you for your sacrifice and thank you for your bravery. thank you colonel. thank you daddy. military families are uniquely thankful for many things, the legacy of usaa auto insurance can be one of them. if you're a current or former military member or their family, get an auto insurance quote and see why 92% of our members plan to stay for life.

back with the president of odyssey marine exploration leading recovery of the ship off the carolina coast there. according to one report, your company has found 45 gold bars, 47 pieces of gold jewelry, 2,000 gold coins and 11,000 silver coins among everything else that's on the ocean floor. i'm curious from what you've seen so far, what's the most
10:54 am
spectacular? >> i have a few favorites. it's a great cross section of gold rush history. the piece you showed earlier is a neat piece. >> tell us about the puzzle ring. >> the puzzle ring is a gold ring is that has multiple pieces that fit together and then are held together with two hand clasping one another. unique piece. and in the safe we found what we believe to be the captain's safe. a couple interesting pieces. one was a saddle bag like an old wells fargo saddle bag filled with gold nuggets. another piece turned out to be a vest that could be worn and had secret pockets sewn in with gold coins and gold nuggets. i got to tell you, while the gold gets the headlines, we're also doing some amazing science out there. we're contributing biological samples to researche erers at t
10:55 am
