a mother who loses a child is always about family and less about politics. so, on either side, it is a terrible thing that is happening. unfortunately when men get involved, they're testosterone levels go and when rockets hit your villages, something like 3,000 to 10,000 hamas rockets went over to israel. if this happened here, in new york city, you would not stand for it. likewise on the other side, there is all sorts of very sad things going on with people. the best thing to do is get hamas out of the equation and get some decent, moderate people in charge who can police it which is what i believe is going on in egypt right now where hamas is considering letting the palestinian, the plo, police the territories. you need some moderates there remember, egypt and israel were at war for decades.
9:04 am
you had some moderates come in and then finally were able to live side by side. that is really what you want, to have mothers be able to raise their children in peace and you know, there are always going to be differences but there is no reason why they can't live side by side. >> boy, i tell you, just hearing your personal story, that was so powerful, just to hear your point of view, it really brings it down-to-earth for all of us who look at it as kind after conflict. but it is unifying force of losing children. that is really what is at the heart of this. >> really at core of this. when the conversation comes up in the united nations and political figures point fingers and stuff, you can make some political points. when a mother loses her child, i don't care what side of the border you are, it is heartbreaking. and lasts for generations. the anger does not go away. i'm not here to make any sort of political points. i believe hamas is terrible for the people of gaza. but that is a political observation. what is it really about is mothers an their children.
9:05 am
if we all took a step back and understood it is about the human condition and loving your children, and giving then the best opportunity to grow up in a peaceful, environment, if you take a look at the, you know, at the other areas that hamas is not involved in, it is a prosperous area. there is peace and quiet. nobody is getting bombed. nobody is hurling rockets. >> gene, the united states role in this. we just heard from former ambassador john bolton saying it is inaction on the part of the united states. >> i agree. >> could later cause chaos. >> i agree. i think what is going on is clearly as student of history, i used to teach sixth grade in spanish harlem, you are bound to repeat failures, you know what the phrase is. what is going on in the rest of the arab world with isis and all the great gains that they have made is a wake-up call for all of us. i think the united states should headlong get a consortium of european allies and go in there and take care of business because if you let the cockroaches in the kitchen multiply, they're going to spread throughout the house.
