affordable hd camcorders on the market. >> and first up, president obama speaking out on u.s. operations in iraq, calling them successful. american bombs targeting isis militants who were in turn targeting christians and other religious minorities. isis telling anyone who doesn't believe as they do, convert or die. president obama saying it won't be a quick fix. he's heading off to vacation on martha's vineyard and fox senior foreign affairs correspondent is there. hi, wendell. >> hi, the president says the u.s. military operation in iraq will not be over in a matter of weeks in part because it won't support a complex humanitarian effort to ensure the safety of refugees fleeing isis partly because there's a political

dimension that calls for a change in the way remark deals with its people. >> in order to be able to operate with the support of populations in the sunni areas are going to have to revamp, get resimplied, have a clear strategy. that's all going to be depending on a government that the iraqi people and iraqi military have confidence in. >> the president said his priority now is getting the tens of thousands of refugees off sinjar mountain. he says there will need to be a corridor. he also wants to protect the americans in erbil. won't hold office is fighters if the government remains bias in a way that divides the loyalties of the iraqi people, but his critics say mr. obama misses the potential threat isis poses to the rest of the world, including

the u.s. >> the whole point of the threat of isis now is that they will be able to establish their own separate state within which they can continue to grow as a terrorist threat to western europe and the united states. it's not enough to say the iraqi government's got to take care of things because it's not just a threat to the iraqi government. >> other critics say mr. obama should have taken care of isis early in syria's civil war. his advisers say that would have risked u.s. weapons falling into the happeneds of isis, that supplying the rebels that isis was sfims tighting with and sfims against. >> indeed a complicated situation. thank you very much. and as we have been reporting, tens of thousands of christians and other religious minorities are trappeded by the isis militants inside of iraq. now, one group of christians here at home are pushing for the government to do more to help. dominique has the story live

from our west coast news room. >> the catholics that are particularly concerned about those on mt. sinjar. there, they have hundreds of thousands of their fellow believers being trapped by islamic state as they try to move. they are running for their lives, being threateneded at gunpoint by the islamic state to convert to islam on the, right there and then or face instant death. of course, the two air drops of aid relief we've seen happen bringing in much needed water and food to those people, but those here in the united states say they have a call for more u.s. support. >> government taking the right steps to for air strikes to go to this isis group. >> we have an obligation. we are a coup tri that believes in religious freedom. this is our belief as americans.

we have to act on it. kald yan those here in the united states, about 200,000 in number. we believe there is another 200,000 christians in iraq who are being persecuted. that number is far lower according to the u.n. just ten years ago, when there was 2 million christians living in iraq. not just christians being r targeted. others like the yezidis, they're also coming under pressure. the islamic state fighters seem to have ir rad kated the homes at least or ability for christians to stay near the mosul area, on the slightly western side of iraq there. be some time before they can return. president obama saying that the aid that was dropped yesterday and also today certainly helping those there, but also strike in the isis positions is equally important, so effectively, a fight on two fronts.

international community needs to protect christians there in iraq. israeli air strikes pounding targets across gaza. one of them killing at least three hamas members at a mosque. and both sides exchange fire once again following the collapse of a three-day truce and putting any hope of an egyptian brokered peace deal in serious doubt. brook is live in gaza city with the latest. rick? >> reporter: this was actually one of the quieter days of this month long conflict, but still deadly and destructive here in gaza. with israeli fighter planes and armed drones continuing to prowl the skies above. palestinians paying a heavy price for not agreeing to extend the cease fire with seven more dead today. once the rockets started flying from gaza towards israel, roughly 100 since yesterday morning, israeli defense forces began aggressively usinging air

strikeses to take out hamas targets. 58 sites since midnight, shaking the ground and filling the sky with smoke as billing after buildinging was reduced to rubb rubble. >> it's very hard an the price is very heavy. the losses are tremendous, but we've survived 47 years and we will not give up. >> one of the targets was the mosque in the refugee camp in central gaza. a building completely destroyed at 3:30 a.m., 15 minutes before the first morning prayer when hundreds of people who you have been inside. instead, three deaths confirmed. rescue workers searching for more. there's no question this mosque was controlled by hamas. its green flagged were flying and at least two of the victims were members of the hamas military wing. it says it will not negotiate under fire. >> we've had dozens of -- follow

needs at emory university hospital in atlanta. now, david writebol is still in lie be liberia, waiting to make sure he's not infected. he told reporters nancy's memories remain in tact and she has her sense of humor. he added she's the best part of his life, he misses her and loves her deeply. as for dr. kent brantly, he's saying he's getting the best treatment possible. in a statement, he wrote from his ice laigs room, he says his family moved to lie beberia to ever good there. i held the hands of countless individuals as this terrible disease took their lives away from them. i can still remember every face and name. nearly 1,000 people who went to africa have died since march from this outbreak and the death rate is 55 to 60%. the director of the centers for disease control said last night that the best way to help

meanwhile, hurricane jrk ulio veering to the north. will carr is live on the big island and it is a lot drier. last time i saw you, you were blowing in the wind. >> reporter: a tad bit more comfortable today. i can tell you that residents here believe they really dodgeded a bullet, so, now, their attention is going to hurricane julio, a category 2 storm right now. it's about 425 miles east of hawaii. it is supposed to weaken though and is supposed to cross sometime tomorrow into monday. northeast of hawaii. so, they're not expecting a direct hit. that's good news for these people. more than 9,000 residents still are without power and they may not get power until some sometitime next week. hawaii is now receiving emergency help from california and florida. today though, we did see people going back outside for the first time boarded up businesses

reopened. a local farmer's market was bustling and it's primary day here in hawaii. turnout in a precinct we visited was low and some voters tell us they were worried the storm would impact their chance to cast a ballot. >> they were worried that the election, the voting would have been postponed, but luckily, the storm wasn't too bad. my house didn't get too much wind. >> there were two tight races today in the primaries. both for the democratic party, one for governor, one for u.s. senate. there were concerns, but since the sun is coming out, the political gurus are now hoping that we'll get more people to the polls. >> and somehow, your assignment just got so much nicer, will carr. >> aloha. >> all right. mahalo. >> you have a hard time feeling sorry for him this time of the day. >> all right, there's a major

important, but there is no doctrine, but more than the need for a doctrine, there is the need for sustained presence in iraq. in the air, drones, aircraft and the potential of reintroduction of american troops cannot be taken off the table given the threat that isil poses to iraq, to the rest of the world an the united states. >> it seems the president has taken the idea of ground troops off the table. you think the president is sending the right message here by starting slowly in terms of these air strikes rather than sending weapons into the kurds and those kinds of things? >> i think what we've got is a man who's looking at an entire die thamic based on what he needs. for barack obama, this is about putting aside what's important to the world and world events, which are moving along without us, versus what he wants for his political narrative here at home

and when that's the case, you can't judge decisions like with the ice isis and what we're doing in iraq based on reasonable mind about saving people's lives and stopping a genocide alter ris group. so, we've got a problem there and i think it's a mistake to project logic and reason. what i've noticed and mainstream media noticed it a little bit, our top officer in iraq two days ago told the military times we needed boots on the ground, this had to be a major effort because of the dangerousness of isis. so, he was really staking a claim here and really talking to the rest of the military of going against what the commander in chief was saying. the last time this happened was mcchrystal and rolling stone. in this case, nobody's been fired and instead i think because there's such a leadership void, statements like that from the military have

forced obama's hand into at least doing something right. >> we'll see what he does do. i want to bring doug back into this. you were part of the clinton administration. he said never again will they allow a genocide like they did in rwanda. is the president now by acting slowly, some would say methodically and others pain stakingly slow, is he allowing that to happen again? >> certainly so. you have those -- yezidi women and children on mt. sinjar and it isn't clear to me that two drops of humanitarian assistance is going to do much quickly to get them off that mountain. we need to arm the kurds. that doesn't require ground troops. it is a simple, elemental step we need to take. the kurds want it. we need to move quickly. i think the issue is not really assessing obama's psycho drama

internally or politically. it's makinging the right decision as americans to relieve a humanitarian crisis that involves ethnic cleansing or worse. >> there was an old line from colin powell that said no one wants america to be the world's policemen, but guess who they call when they need a cop in town. at some point, republicans seem to be criticizing the president on every move. is there a right answer here in the middle east or is he going to get hit from either side? >> the only place where he's done a lot is being patern paternalistic to the israelis. our one friend other than the kurds in the middle east who he's effectively been ignoring. "the new york times" had a good headline that the obama administration was worried about this turning into another benghazi, so the action also is not really about what's right to do on the ground. whether it's a little or a lot. it was about the impact and political blowback here at home,

washington with a latest as it breaks. doug? >> the number of humanitarian air drops for the beleagued yezidis trapped on mt. sinjar is incre increasinging. they dropped tons of food, water, tents and other equipment in the last couple of days, but at least 56 children have died of dehydration. there are 50 to 150,000 people who have fled their homes and retreated to the area, believed to be the place where noah's ark came to rest. they are keeping the isis forces those strikes increased today with at least four -- by f-18s holding ice isis at bay is short-term. >> not only have they acquired

imparking li of u.s. goods, the question is, will this really hurt the american economy. let's add kyle harrington joining me now. good to see you. sent millions of chickens to russia. he said that's going to stop. also banning the import of nuts, soybeans, fish. so, the question is how is this -- really hit the u.s. food industry? >> you hear 370 million of po t poultry going from u.s. to russiain russia, but on the whole, we sent about $3.1 billion in exports. the poultry is a little affected there because it represents a little over 25% in the food and agriculture space. modern day russia is is more

dependent on exports. so, for example, ur euro zone last year, about $16 million worth of goods from europe to russia and again, 1.3 from us. >> so then you're seeing there's going to be more of geopolitical risk involved. >> i think so. where there's a risk is first and foremost, i'm not sure the russian economy can survive. years worth of sanctions. i'm not certain that that can be sustainable unless russia goes to monetary stimulus like we've done here in the u.s. and so, i think the people that suffer the most are actually the russian citizens with respect to these overa overall sanctions, not the u.s. >> because they may be facing inflation. >> what happens is is where do you produce the chickens, for

example. you can mobilize some internal russian people and farmers to do that, but that's a lengthy process as well. so i think there's going to be a lot of capital flight from russ russia. >> they're just going to do a work around, just redistribute to other customers they have, but still, we have people who work in the u.s. food industry here and as i pointed out, we are talking about $307 million worth of chickens exported to russia last year, so you definitely want to acknowledge, somebody's going to suffer. >> that is a good point. in terms of the poultry industry, since the sales are significant amount of the exports in food and agriculture space, that industry could see effect and they're going to have to as you said, a work around

and redistribute where they're selling their poultry because there is a $300 million sales export sales there that can be hurt in the tyson foods for example. >> hopefully, some of the smaller companies can work around because we don't want to see anybody in their own personal american workers i'm talking about, we don't want their pocketbooks directly. so, that's it for us today here on the set. tell everybody on the set i said hello when you go back. >> i will. >> here's a question, is the affordable care act actually kicking up the price of health insurance? later tonight, fox news reports examines obamacare in new hampshire as small business owners there do the math and here's what he found. >> those employees i've asked them all to check the exchange to see what the cost would be. what they report back to me is not necessarily positive news. >> martin's going to be close to 300 a month.

israel and hamas resuming attacks after a three-day cease fire has ended. and not sending it delegation to egypt after failing to reach an agreement with hamas. what can be done to dial back the violence in the region? susan is here, good to see you. i understand you're saying that it mainly boils down to what hamas has to do. >> hamas is 30, 40rks 50 channels into israel. they've been sending rockets into israel.

when the cease fire ended, some thought maybe it would end a little longer. their allies were immediately sending more rockets into israel and when you read and research, what you keep hearing in egypt former peace talks, is that hamas is looking for a victory here. they're looking for something to show that the loss of life and the tremendous suffering to the people in gaza, which is really very tragic, says they want something from the israelis to approve they've acomp lired something. they're better at this than they are. their death toll is lower. they've done a better job protecting their people, but the short answer is hamas has lost right here. so i'm not sure that hamas is in any position really to make huge

demands of israel. if they want life to be better for their people and their people certainly deserve a better life, they've got to renounce terrorism and find a better way to make peace. that's the only way life is going to improve for the people of gaza. >> and what would you say at this point that israel should do? >> finish doing what it needs to do. this is not a situation like the west bank where israel is in occupying power and you have an israel. lots of differences about what to do in the west bank. the terrorist still pummels in, killing people, threatening life and what israel has to do is it can't negotiate a peaceful situation is close down the tunnel, do what it needs to do

to protect people. in israel from constant rocket attacks. >> talk to me about the organized palestinian government. what should their role be? >> well, hamas is the government in gaza. now, the palestinian authority, it's a different story. >> that's who i'm talking about. >> but they don't control hamas and maybe they can put pressure on, but you've got a terrible situation now where you've got an organization committed to terrorism that won't back doup. it's infuriating, quite frankly, tell me now what you think the u.s. should do at this point and how involved should they be? >> well, the u.s. is try iing t get everybody to the table and work out a solution. i was thinking about president obama's quip about there is no u.s. military solution to the
